Pro*C checking

I would like to have Pro*c do semantic checking (i.e., verify table and column names), but it is overly picky. It is dying on function calls like:
EXEC SQL SELECT MAX(po_approve_date) INTO :ad FROM purchase_order WHERE vendor_id = :vid;
With: PLS-S-00201, identifier 'MAX' must be declared
Is there away to tell Pro*C to do the sematic check, but not consider errors fatal?

The example you have provided does not contain a PL/SQL block, and yet you are getting a PL/SQL error????
It does not contain an EXEC SQL EXECUTE ........... END-EXEC construct.
I use MAX function all the time and I also enable the sqlcheck=semantic option, but never get this error.
To test this, one more time, I inserted the following statement in one of my pro*c programs:
EXEC SQL AT DB_DML SELECT MAX(CREATED) INTO :dt FROM user_objects ;
It compiles OK and no errors at runtime.
One thing that you can try out is to use mode=oracle option when precompiling to see if that helps.
