Problem Booting with default SSD set on Bios

Hi
I have two SSD each one have a system for boot one I use for everyday work and another one for gaming.
I set on boot the SSD for work as default for boot, it works for several days and then end up to boot from the second one.
It's very difficult to press F11 to get boot option but if I menage I can boot with no problem from it.
So I ask to my retailer and they told me that maybe SMART Tech. check the ssd and if find something wrong it boot form the second option.
I check my everyday work SSD with CHDISK and HDtune but there is no problem or error.
I am lost to find the cause of this behave.
I have update with liveupdate 5 the Controlcenter to 2.5.056 but ClickBIOSII is not anymore available and I can find anymore on utility MSI download any hint?
Thank you

  • Cannot boot with new SSD

Installed new OWC 240G SSD in 2007 iMac. Started up with old HD in external case running OS 10.10.2.  Initialized SSD with Disk Utilities, and it mounted on the desktop.  Transferred contents from old HD to new SSD. Computer boots fine from old HD in external case, but does not boot with internal SSD.  After displaying Apple symbol for a few seconds of the startup process, computer goes to a kernel panic and gets into a loop of retry message-Apple symbol-message-etc.  The SSD shows on the desktop, but does not show as a startup disk in System Preferences pane.  Disk Utilities shows drive is fine, but repair of permissions is grayed out.  Window says permissions repair is only permitted on OS installed with an Apple installer.  System folder on the SSD does not show the "blessed" symbol.  Have tried recloning using Time Machine backup - same result.  Installed eDrive on SSD with TechToolsPro, and can start up in eDrive thru TTP window, thus verifying all cabling.  After booting with original internal HD installed in external case, SSD will show on desktop, but will disappear in a few minutes after a message says it was improperly ejected.  Suggestions?  Is there a way to access OS 10 software purchased and downloaded from Apple site?

Many possibilities here. Maybe a bad connection when you installed the drive. Maybe a bad drive. Maybe a bad SATA cable.
How did you format the drive? Should be Mac OS Extended Journaled. When you boot into the recovery drive, access disk utility from there and see if you can access the drive.
I have the same drive as you. What I did is use Disk Utility from the recovery drive of TM. I first re-formatted the SSD drive. Then I used Disk Utility to restore the whole drive of my original to the new SSD drive.
You can still download the Yosemite installer from the App Store in your purchases providing you downloaded it from the App Store already.

  • Messed up the pacman DB with wrong date set in bios [solved]

Solved by reinstallation and some searching around for a few hours.

Thanks I'll look at that entry. Still I'd like to point out that this page clearly says that the timezone is to be set in rc.conf, which is a bit confusing. I must've followed this guide to get to my current configuration. I am dual booting with multiple other systems (xubuntu, win7, puppy, crunchbang) so from what I've read win7 might be the problem, but I haven't started it since i installed arch and my time has been off from the start.
Should I simply use NTP now that pacman is working again?
    Thanks

  • MSi Dragon Editon 2 problems booting with usb mice

Hi to all people. I have a problem with my laptop. If i update my BIOS with versions newer tan E1763IMS.50V the laptop doesn´t boot with usb mice connected. I think i  answer this in the past but with not solution and now i ask again  thinking some people have a solution now.I have checked with differents EC versions and  BIOS E1763IMS.50V and with all versions works fine. If i update the BIOS E1763IMS.50V with other newer BIOS the problem appears. When the pc is started  and Windows 8.1 is charged i can connect the mouse and works fine too. I have checked with various mices and with all the problem appears. The only BIOS that works fine is E1763IMS.50V.
Thanks a lot for your help

I borrowed a GT70, plugged my SteelSeries Rival optical mouse and flashed with the same 50V version to the laptop. It boots & works normally.
And then I flashed to 518 version. It still boots & works normally.
So maybe your problem is not on the mouse?
Did it boot up if unplugging the mouse?

  • Problem booting with two mnitors

Basically my problem is that if I boot my machine with both of my monitors plugged in, after the bios screen both lose signal and nothing happens. If only one is plugged in everything works fine and after boot I am able to plug in the second monitor and restart X to have full dual monitor functionality.
I'm using a Nvidia card with the open source drivers and I believe that the problem is KMS related as disabling early KMS caused both screens to have some console output before losing signal.
Thanks for any help in advance.

So what options do you have there?  Would it possibly be HDMI and VGA or onboard or something?  If one setting is causing the issue, then perhaps the other will fix it.  It may mean that your DVI monitor would be the one that is posted to, which can get annoying if you are used to the other one, but if it boots alright....

  • T410 will not boot with new SSD

I've cloned my HDD to a new SSD, but it will not boot.  It goes into a Lenovo Think Bios splash screen / Black screen loop.  I booted off a repair disk and performed a repair, but it is still doing the bios loop thing.  This has happened with both an OCZ and a Kingston SSD.  Any ideas? Thanks...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm going to venture a guess that the drive was not cloned properly.
The "new" drive must be in the machine's HDD bay, and the "old" one in the USB enclosure.
I always use Clonezilla for the rare occasions that I actually clone something, but Acronis should do just fine as well.
    Good luck.

  • Problem booting with extlinux

I have another Linux distribution (Crux) and Windows7, both get booted by extlinux. After installing Arch on /dev/sda6, I added this entry to my extlinux.conf:
    LABEL Arch
        LINUX /boot/vmlinuz-linux
        APPEND root=/dev/sda6 rw
        INITRD /boot/initramfs-linux.img
The problem is, that doesn't work. Selecting "Arch" simply does nothing. It must have to do with the initrd option, as it does boot if I copy the kernel from Crux (which doesn't need an initrd) to the Arch partition and remove the initrd option. I guess it's a stupid mistake of mine. What am I missing?

it does boot if I copy the kernel from Crux (which doesn't need an initrd) to the Arch partition
As far as I know, extlinux can't boot kernels that aren't on the partition that it is run from (see note at the top of this page), so I think this working is a coincidence. Do you have a dedicated boot partition where extlinux resides? If so, try copying the arch kernel and initrd to there, and amending your extlinux.conf as appropriate.
Alternatively, install and configure syslinux in arch, and chainload it from Cruxs extlinux.

  • Problems booting with external drive

    Hello,
I just upgraded from an older model MacBook Pro that was happily running OS X (10.5.4) to a 2009 model that is currently running 10.5.7. There was a gap of a few months between models, though, so I cloned the old one onto an external drive and used it to boot an iMac loaner -all without any problems. My problem is that now that I have the new MacBook Pro , when I hold the option key while starting the computer in order to select the external drive, the computer reverts to the internal hard drive rather than booting from my external drive.
Any advice, suggestions to help me overcome this would be most welcome.....

If I understand your post correctly, I think the reason the new MBP won't boot from the external drive is that the OS that's on the external drive is incompatible with the new MBP. What I would try in that situation is to connect the external drive to the new computer, and then use the new computer's OS X install disk to install the operating system onto the external drive. It should then boot (though why you want to boot from the external drive is not something you explained).

  • Shopping cart Issue with ( "Default settings:   Set values" ) link

    Hello SRM Gurus,
I have an issue in shopping cart process:
When creating a shopping cart, I am trying to change the u201CDelivery Address/Performanceu201D tab data through link u201CDefault settings:   Set valuesu201D, then add the items in to shopping cart and ordered. The change values are properly populating.  For example (Street/house number) .
But when we re-creating the shopping cart,  the changed values are not populating  automatically (Itu2019s not updated in to master  table I guess) and  we need to  open the link u201CDefault settings:   Set valuesu201D  and  change the values again.
So is this link (u201CDefault settings:   Set valuesu201D )  active only for that particular Shopping cart? Or is it missing to update the changed data in to master table?
Because business wants, when changes happen through (u201CDefault settings:   Set valuesu201D) link, It should be update in to users master and when open next time the changed value should be populated.
Is this standard behavior of shopping cart?
Kindly let me know your comments.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Magesh.

    Hi Anubhav
    Thanks for the mail.
    Actually my issue is that,
When creating new shopping cart, trying to change some values through "Default Settingsu201D will it be parentally stores the changed value into user master data? Or it is temporarily changes for that shopping cart alone?
Because business wanted when changing the values in "Default Settingsu201D  the changed value should be appeared when creating shopping cart next time also..
So I want to know that , What is the  standard behavior of u201Cdefault settingsu201D . Kindly let me know your experience.
    Thanks.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad T520 doesn't boot with GPT slices on FreeBSD 9-BETA3 - BIOS bug?

    Hi!
I've bought a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad T520 laptop and decided to install FreeBSD 9 Beta 3 following this guide.
But when I rebooted the system, it simply doesn't boot (turns out to the BIOS boot menu).
It's even doesn't boot with default FreeBSD 9 UFS-on-GPT installation scheme through bsdInstaller
Changing BIOS (latest, 1.31) settings BIOS Startup->UEFI/Legacy Boot from "Both" to "Legacy only" has no effect. As FreeBSD AFAIK doesn't support UEFI boot, legacy boot should work picking up and starting pmbr (protected MBR record), but it doesn't.
However, FreeBSD 9 UFS-on-MBR installation (with mbr boot record and FreeBSD slice in MBR partition instead of  GPT) works fine.
It seems to me that UEFI/Legacy Boot "Legacy" setting actually has no effect if 0xEE type Primary partition entry is present on disk.
First of all, has anyone installed Linux or FreeBSD with GPT partitioning scheme on latest Thinkpads?
And the second one, as I've saw similar problem on FreeBSD forum thread about T420s laptop I believe that this may be a bug in the BIOS. How can I fill the bugreport or send an e-mail to support or developers, as, obvious, phone support can consult only about Windows OS.

    Volker1 wrote:
I've got a suspicion that the Thinkpad bios/efi is not simply executing the first stage bootloader, but looking around on the GPT disk and then crapping its pants when it doesn't find Windows.
Right now I have a MBR-formatted harddisk in the ultrabay with the bootloader in the MBR. Once I get the bootloader off the MBR disk, I can easily continue to boot from my GPT-formatted SSD.
Yes, it seems that it's a BIOS bug at least on T520, T420s and W520 laptops. Even in "Legacy" mode first stage bootloader doesn't execute if partition type is 0xEE (GPT).
Hope Lenovo developers will fix it. They fixed something on BIOS 1.31
    [Problem fixes]
    - Fixed an issue where the computer might not be booted from bootloader program.
but it doesn't work for now. Pity.

    Hi,
In addition to setting DO_SUM = 'X' you need to specify function in H_FTYPE field. It should be set to 'AVG' in your case.
    ls_fielcat-do_sum = 'X'.
    ls_fieldcat-h_ftype = 'AVG.

  • Hang at boot with rEFInd

After last kernel update (using all testing repos) I rebooted my notebook and -> CRACK... rEFInd let me choose between windows 8 and Arch as usual but if I choose Arch it will display only kernel boot line and then it hangs... why that happens?
my configuration has refind 0.6.7-1 so I haven't created arch folder in /boot/efi/EFI/ but left kernel and initramfs in /boot and I put refind_linux.conf in /boot.. in /boot/efi/EFI I copied tools/drivers_x64 folder from /usr/lib/refind for ext4 driver...
    some configs file:
    /boot/refind_linux.conf

ps: I mount /dev/sda1 (UEFI partition) in /boot/efi... in your opinion is it better if I mount it in /boot ???

    cp /usr/lib/refind/config/refind.conf /boot/efi/EFI/refind/

    mkdir -p /boot/efi/EFI/tools/

  • Custom ui component with default layout

    Hello,
I am trying to develop custom swing components with default layout set.
Both component class and its BeanInfo are written with NetBeans 6.1
However, when trying to put this custom swing component into interface builder (matisse) of
NetBeans 6.1, the default layout is always replaced with GroupLayout.
Is there any way to correctly specify default layout manager used in a custom
    swing component?
    thanks a lot!

    Hi Jacek
You can embed your custom component with IFrame element in WebDynpro view. IFrame element loads a content by URL which can be bound to controller's context. You can store your custom HTML content in MIME folder of the WebDynpro component. At runtime you can get the URL to the MIME content and initialize the IFrame with the URL.
However, IFrame element is being reloaded by WebDynpro framework too often during each request/response cycle. This is a disadvantage of the solution.

  • W8.1/W7-64 dual boot, dual drive (SSD & SATA) GPT/MBR problems

I'm posting in both the W8 and W7 forums because I'm not sure which is more appropriate.
    Setup:
New Dell XPS8700 with Windows 8.1 installed on a 256GB SSD drive.  I upgraded to W8.1 Pro.
    2nd drive is a 2TB SATA.
    Goal:
    Keep W8.1 Pro on SSD.
Install W7 Ultimate 64 (legal copy, installation disk) on SATA Drive.
Select which one I want at boot.
    Main Issue
Cannot easily choose which OS to log into.  See  Dual Boot Problems and Current State for details.
    Background: W7 Installation Probems
    1. I disabled Secure Boot in the BIOS and Fast Startup in Windows 8.1
    2. I created 3 partitions (D, E, F) on the SATA drive (a GPT drive)
    3. Used the Advanced Option in W8 to boot from the DVD (absurd),
    4. Windows 7 started setup from the DVD but at the initial screen (Language, Country), it hung. Hard. No keyboard, no mouse.  Had to turn off computer.
    5. Using F12, selected legacy boot from DVD.  Now the installation got beyond the first screen. I selected Custom Install.  When I tried to install to the E: partition, I got the message that W7 could not be installed on a GPT drive.  From
a lot of research and reading, I'm guessing this is because I chose a legacy boot. But, please, note:  the only reason I did a legacy boot was because I could not get past the first screen with a "normal" CD/DVD boot,
    6. So, I went back into W8, deleted the volumes on the SATA drive, changed it to MBR, recreated the volumes.
    7. Using F12, again selected legacy boot from DVD and was able to install W7 on the E: partition, except that every reboot during the installation process got me back into W8, so I had to restart with the F12 option/legacy boot to finish W7 installation.
    8. Finally got W7 installed. Logged in. OK so far.
    Dual Boot Problems
    1. No boot menu.  Computer booted directly into W8.1. And, yes, Fast Startup in W8.1 still disabled.
    2. Downloaded and installed EasyBCD.  Created boot menu for W8.1 and W7 with W8.1 the default.
    3. Reboot, select W8.  Fine, I'm into W8.1
    4. Reboot, select W7. All I get is one bar of hieroglyphics across top of screen.  Hard freeze.  Had to unplug computer.
    5. Do an F12 reboot and select legacy boot from the SATA drive.  Get a different boot menu  with Windows 7 on top and W8 Media version below.  Select W7.  It loads and I log in.
    6. Do an F12 reboot and select legacy boot from the SATA drive. This time, select W8.  Get an error that it can't find W8.
    Current State
    1. The default boot into W8 works fine.
    2. Can't get into W7 unless I do an F12 legacy boot from SATA at startup.
    3. If I do an F12 legacy boot from SATA, I can't get into W8.
I do not want to rely on F12 for 2 reasons: first, I want W7 to be my default working enviroment. Please do not try to convince me that there is no good reason for that.  I want to do this, have legal, paid for copies of W7 (actually, I now have four.)
Second, it will make installing W7 updates nightmarish since I'll have go go through the whole F12 thing for every reboot.
I am assuming that the problem stems from the original GPT/MBR  split (with the SSD being GPT and the SATA being MBR) - although I could be wrong.  And, remember, the only reason I changed the SATA from GPT to MBR was because the W7 setup froze
at the initial screen when I first tried to install W7 with a normal boot from DVD.
    Things I've tried:
    1. Via W8, got to a command prompt where I ran bootsect.exe /scanos.  The result was that it found NO Windows Installations. Obviously incorrect.
    2. Uninstalled EasyBCD from W8.
    3. Rebooted.  Same boot menu as before: W8.1 on top, Windows 7 below (as I had set things up in EasyBCD).
    2. Via W8 Command Prompt did a bcdboot c:\windows to try to get GUI boot menu.  Got the error message: failure when attemptng to copy boot files.
What I want to do seems to me to be quite simple: run W8 from the SSD, run W7 from the SATA.  It's my understanding that I should be able to install W7 on a GPT drive and that would, I am hoping,
solve the boot menu problem.  But see Installation Problems above: I couldn't do the default boot from the DVD and install W7 because it froze at the first screen.  Is there some other way to get past the freeze and install W7 to a GPT?
I've been working on this for two weeks now, have read more articles, watched more YouTube videos than I care to list. Need Help Desperately.

    SOLUTION:
The problem I described above stemmed from the fact that I had been unable to install W7 without using the legacy option. (The W7 installation would freeze at the first screen.)  That created the boot incompatibilities between W8.1 and W7because I had
to use legacy for the latter but not for the former.
It turned out that the USB ports were the basic problem.  The Windows 7 installation program doesn't recognize USB 3.0 ports. Unfortunately, the A08 BIOS in the XPS 8700 -Special Edition (as of late Dec. 2014) has only 3 options for enabling/disabling
the USB ports: Front, Top, Back.  The back panel has a mix of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports and I needed a 2.0 port for the mouse and keyboard to work.  However, disabling the Front and Top USB ports was sufficient. The W7 install no longer froze.
So, from my W8 installation, I wiped out the SATA drive, changed it back to GPT, partitioned it, disabled the Front and Top USB ports in the BIOS and booted from the W7 DVD.  The installation went fine.  After installing the network driver, downloaded
previously, and updating W7, I installed the USB 3.0 drivers and then re-enabled the Top and Front in the BIOS.
So, now the EasyBCD boot options work just fine.  Both drives are GPT. No legacy options.
