Problem configuring vRealize Operations Manager

Hi there,
I have installed VRealize operations manager version 6.0 (trial version for 60 days) and ever since I have installed it, it says collecting data but not able to see any details of my vmware infrastructure in there. When I click on reports, it says no reports generated. I am not sure if it is configured correctly or not.  Can you please help me with its set up?
Thanks,
Ruby

  • VRealize Operations Management Packs for Lenovo Compute and Lenovo Network Switches

     Lenovo Systems Management Community Members:
Blue Medora is currently developing a two new and distinct VMware vRealize Operations Management Packs aimed at Lenovo datacenter technology -- a vROps MP for Lenovo Compute as well as a vROps MP for Lenovo Network Switches. Our target is to release both vROps MPs in the September timeframe. Both of the MPs will support vROps v6+. If vROps integration with Lenovo Compute and/or Lenovo Network Switches is something that is relevant to you, our product management team is very interested in talking to you about what aspects of the Lenovo-based compute and network infrastructure you like to see surfaced in vROps, models of Lenovo servers and network switches your your organization most commonly leverages, as well as any specific troubleshooting / diagnostic use cases you have around Lenovo compute and network.
Please drop us a line at [email protected] if you'd like to participate in a pre-release program for the vROps MPs for Lenovo Compute and Lenovo Network Switches.

Sorry for being a bit slow in responding. Adapting the settings for my wired ethernet adapter as rdhw suggested solved the problem. (But since I am not using any wake-on features, I simply opted to turn them off instead.)
Interestingly, I had previously looked at these settings in the BIOS and turned them off there (forgot to mention this), but it appears the Device Manager settings were overriding the BIOS settings.
So, I still find Access Connections to be slow (it will take maybe half a minute or so to figure out what is happening when I switch between wireless and wired connections), and also getting the X200 to go to sleep takes more time than it used to do (it used to go to sleep momentarily when I, say, closed the lid, whereas now it will need to think for 10-15 seconds first), but at least everything works reasonably well now.
Which is nice, and I don't want to break anything that I don't have the time to fix, so I think I will leave it at this for the time being. Thanks so much for the help (and for the prompt reply)!

  • Vrealize operations manager will not start

I deployed vrops vm and now I am stuck at this stage.

    any idea?

When you deployed the VA, did you meet all of the pre-reqs? A and PTR DNS records both created?

  • After moving database, error on startup operations manager console

    Hello,
may be someone can help me or give me a hint. I have moved the operational databas of SCOM 2012 to an other MSSQL-Server; from a SQL2008 Server to a SQL2012 Server.

My databaseadmin told me, that all is ok, the operations management server queries the new sql server, then close the connection. So we started again the old database server, there are still queries to this server.
    What i've done:
    - Changing the database servers name in the registry, Microsoft Operations Manager, 3.0, Setup, DatabaseServerName
    - changing the database entry at the file ConfigService.confg
After my databaseadmin told me, that there are queries at the old database server, i searched in the registry and found two entries:
    - System Center
     Common
      Database
       DatabaseServerName
    - System Center Ooperations Manager
     12
      Reporting
       DWDBInstance
.. i have still this error, no connection possible.
    What testing i can do?
    Kind regards
    Wolfgang

You have to update the DB server names in the databases as well. Here are the instructions for SCOM07, I suspect it's similar in SCOM12
Update the OperationsManager database with the New Database Server Name, and ensure that the account that you are logged on with has sufficient privileges on the SQL Server instance.
    Open SQL Server Management Studio.
    Expand
    Databases, OperationsManager, and Tables.
    Right-click
dbo.MT_ManagementGroup, and then click Open Table if you are using SQL Server 2005 or click
Edit Top 200 Rows if you are using SQL Server 2008.
    Change the value in the
SQLServerName_6B1D1BE8_EBB4_B425_08DC_2385C5930B04 column to reflect the name of the new SQL Server-based computer.
    Save your change
Configure the Operations Manager database with the name of the new Data Warehouse server as follows:
On the server that hosts the Operations Manager database, open SQL Server
Management Studio and navigate to Databases, OperationsManager, and then to
    Tables.
    Right-click
dbo.MT_DataWarehouse, and then select Open Table if you are using SQL Server 2005 or select
Edit Top 200 Rows if you are using SQL Server 2008.
    Change the value in the
MainDatabaseServerName_16781F33_F72D_033C_1DF4_65A2AFF32CA3 column to the name of the new Data Warehouse server.
Close SQL Server Management Studio to save your changes.

  • VRealize Operations for Horizon when HA is enabled

    I've got a question regarding
Best practices for configuring vRealize Operations for Horizon when HA is enabled (2092874)
KB advices to turn off HA. Does it mean that entire HA solusion should be disabled - Master/replica node and redundant data nodes? Or we can disable HA only for data nodes (or specific adapter) but master/replica nodes can still synchronize?
Is it planned to introduce HA for vROP for Horizon?

HA is best used when you clearly understand the limitations and your business cases require the high availability of the monitoring solution itself (and vSphere HA won't be sufficient). Most won't consider vR Ops itself a BCA or Tier-1 app, so HA isn't necessary.

  • CDR report problem in Operations Manager/Service Monitor 8.7

I'm testing Operations Manager/Service Monitor in lab right now and got a little problem.
When I configured everything from the begining I could do CDR reports and saw all calls in them but I renamed the cluster so it wouldn't just say StandAloneCluster. Everything except CDR Reports seems to work.
I can see that the data is sent from UCM to Service Monitor but if I try to maka a report it just says no records.
Is there any logs I can check to find out what i happening?

I found the problem, Even though I had applied config on the UCM after changing the name from StandAloneCluster to another name the calls in CDR were slill saved with cluster name StandAloneCluster.
Since this is a lab and I didn't have time for troubleshooting I restarted the publisher and after that the calls were marked with the new name and I could find them in the reports again.

  • Problem in the first run of "System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager – Evaluation (VHD)"

    Hi All,
I need to evaluate the "System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager" so I downloaded the Evaluation VHD from this URL:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40844
I downloaded all the 13x ISO images and used the supplied SC2012_R2_SCOM_EVALVHD.exe  to
rebuild the VHD file. I am using Windows Server 2012 Standard.
As indicated by the install instructions, I used “OM2012R2_VHDEval.docx"
to create the Virtual Machine to run Operations Manager. Problems:
    1) when I first connected to the Virtual Machine just created in Hyper-V, there was a cmd window saying that was impossible to connect to the domain I provided. i think the domain was correct. Is this error a showstopper or the Operation Manager should be
    able to run anyway?
    2) To run Operation Manager on the Virtual Machine, the install guide says "On the desktop of the virtual machine, double-click the
Operations Manager Console folder. Operations Manager Console
folder provides access to different parts of Operations Manager. Double-click
Operations Console to open the Operations Manager console."
so I did click on the Operation Console icon but it says the file does not exist in the Virtual Machine. How is that possible if this is a prepackaged Virtual Machine ready to use for evaluation? I checked the pointed folder and actually inside "c:\Program
Files" there is no System Center folder at all..?
Any help would be much appreciated, I'm kind of lost at the moment and not sure how to get started with this (to me) new software.

  • VMM Connection to Configuration Manager and Operations Manager

    Hi,
i was wondering how do i connect Virtual Machine Manager to Configuration Manager. do i need to have operations manager installed and up and running? or can i connect it to SCCM directly as it is being the main component.
From my understanding of the VMM is that it is used for provisioning and controlling of Hyper visors (cytrix, Vmeare, etc.).
why do i need to go through the Operation Manger? why can i not connect directly to SCCM?
whats the Advantages of using operations manager instead of using CM?
    Thanks.

VMM has no direct link to Configuration Manager at all.
VMM has a direct link to Operations Manager, which can be integrated and monitor the entire fabric (compute, networking and storage).
The synergy here is that every thing in VMM, will get exposed for monitoring in SCOM.
Configuration Manager has a different approach - as VMM is responsible for the
datacenter - while Configuration Manager manages the clients and eventually applications within the servers/clients.

    Hello to all.
Hope this mail finds all of you well.
    I have a problem with a CUOM Prime 9.0.
The customer's infrastracture is a cluster CUCM (VM), 9.1.2.
The CUCM cluster is up and running and all the cisco devices can be discovered.
The customer wants to use a Cisco Prime Unified Operations Manager 9.0 in order to monitor all the Cisco devices.
Also, in the CUOM server have been installed the browser "I.E 8.0" and the browser "Firefox Mozila" (Firefox Setup 10.0.5esr).
The problem that I faced is that the page "Service Level View" can not be displayed.
When I try to use the "Internet Explorer" the loading bar is being displayed, but can not be completed.
When I try to use the "Firefox Mozila" a message is being displayed and prompt me to install the last Flash Player,
    which is already installed.
Can anybody help me on that  problem?
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hello,
We are currently implementing a Devops solution with SCOM 2012 SP1 and TFS 2010 SP1 and we would like to synchronize APM alerts with TFS and the Operational Issue WorkItem. However we are not

This a French platform with a project based on the Process Template SCRUM 1.0 alone in a Team Project collection. The Operational Issue import completed successfully. It’s possible to manipulate
Operational Issue for all of its states from TFS.
    SCOM Platform
We followed the documentation at :
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj883936.aspx
to configure SCOM Alert Attachment and Operation Manager Tfs Work Item Synchronization. Everything seems to be ok. All configurations succeed. We did not configure Intellitrace collector.
The problem occurs when we are trying to push an APM alert to TFS. When we assigned an alert to the Engineering nothing is synchronized in TFS. There is no error in the event viewer on the TFS

    Hi,
To monitor the complete TFS infrastructure, you need additional monitoring packs that alert you about a wide range of problems with TFS components. When you import the TFS Work Item Synchronization management pack, it is a best practice to
also import and configure these monitoring packs, you can double check these:

  • Operations Manager - KMS Idle Minutes Monitor Alerts - False Positives As Event ID 12290 Still Being Logged

    Hi all,
I am using System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager with the Key Management Service Management Pack at version 6.0.7234.0, and I keep receiving the following alert in Operations Manager:
    "Idle Minutes Monitor Alert:
Key Management Service (KMS) inactivity exceeded threshold
    Knowledge:
    Summary:
The purpose of this rule is to alert system administrators to a possible KMS or network outage. This rule monitors the end-to-end operation of KMS activation. A notification event is created by KMS if no activation or renewal requests were logged by KMS
(activity event 12290) in the specified time interval. In addition to new activations, periodic renewal requests are expected to occur (default is 7 days). Whether or not this alert is serious depends on the number of machines in the KMS environment, how many
are actually connected, and the configured renewal interval.
    Causes:
Any failure or incorrect configuration of the KMS service, other Windows components, firewall, hardware, network or routers can trigger the Idle Minutes Alert. This alert can also result from normal behavior, since it is possible that not enough machines
attempted to activate or renew during the specified time interval.
    Resolutions:
The first step is to determine whether there really is a problem. Start with a known good KMS client and run (with elevated privileges) the script slmgr.vbs -ato . If the activation/renewal fails, it will report an error code. You can direct the client to
connect to a specific KMS machine by using the slmgr.vbs -skms option. The request event (12288) and response event (12289) in the Windows Application event log may provide additional information, including the identity of failing KMS machines. If there has
been a failure, check the following:
Software Licensing service (slsvc) is running.
Other KMS machine behavior is normal.
KMS firewall port is open (default is TCP 1688).
Attempt to connect to KMS using telnet to the KMS port(you won’t be able to do anything other than connect)
Use a network monitor (e.g. netmon) to capture and trace network problems.
There is one Idle Minutes Monitor that is used to monitor for activity. It may be desirable to adjust the time threshold, depending on expected KMS activity."
Despite what the alert says, there are activity events with ID 12290 being logged, but they are appearing under the 'Key Management Service' log instead of the general 'Application' log.  I know that my clients are activating with the server without
any problems as I have run slmgr.vbs -ato with success on a number of them, and none are stating that activation is required.  This issue was previously raised here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/1391acf8-f0be-4a48-9039-8d24e275f1fd/kms-idle-time-monitor-raise-wrong-alerts?forum=operationsmanagermgmtpacks, but  I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and the hotfix KB981314 comes
up as 'not applicable to this computer' so I assume it is part of SP1 now.  I have also tried installing KB2692929, as that was cited as being a possible fix here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/8ec8ae5b-a310-4b0f-9a5f-e0599bceb93a/kms-managementpack?forum=operationsmanagermgmtpacks, however I am still seeing the same alerts.
Would greatly appreciate any further suggestions!
    Many thanks

    Hi,
I've checked for all the events that are generated by our servers, and there are periods of time where no requests are received for up to 18 hours, so that is no doubt why the alerts are appearing (we then sometimes see five requests in the same minute,
but there we go).  I'll need to adjust the thresholds.
Thank you for your help, Chunky.1, I'll mark your reply as the answer, as it was very helpful in understanding the alert.
For anyone else who needs to check this, create a PowerShell script using the following content, and place your own details into the relevant sections in bold (without the brackets, of course).  This will generate a csv file which will have the server
name in one column and the time that the request event was generated - you can then check the gaps between the requests.  The script is quick and dirty, with no checks along the way, so feel free to embellish it as required.
    Out-File "<directory to place file in>\KMS_check_results.csv"
    $results = get-eventlog -ComputerName <KMS server hostname> -logname 'Key Management Service'|where{$_.message -match "<String which identifies servers instead of clients>"}
    $filteredresults = @()
    foreach($event in $results){
#This splits up the message into sections, separated by commas, and places each section as an element in an array
        $event.Message -split ","|foreach{
            if($_ -match "<server domain suffix - e.g. contoso.com>"){
                $eventserver = $_
        $timegenerated = $event.TimeGenerated
        $filteredresults += New-Object PSObject -Property @{
            Server = $eventserver
            TimeGenerated = $timegenerated
    $filteredresults|select-object server,timegenerated|export-csv "<directory to place file in>\KMS_check_results.csv"  -NoTypeInformation

  • Operations manager failed to run a wmi query for wmi events (0x800706ba)

    Hi everyone,
I've been working on this issue for a while and I am still no closer to finding out what the problem is.  If anybody can offer any other advice or things to check, I'm all ears.
I'm running SCOM 2012 R2 with UR2, and the Cluster Management Pack v6.0.7063.0
My problem is on one particular batch of cluster servers where I am getting the following error.
Name: Operations Manager failed to run a WMI query for WMI events
    Alert Description:
Module was unable to enumerate the WMI data
    Error: 0x800706ba
Details: The RPC server is unavailable
    Workflow name: Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Node.StateMonitoring
    Instance Name: servername.domain.local
    Instance ID: {instance_id}
    Management group: SCOM_Management_Grp_Name
I am getting this alert regardless of whether I run the Windows Cluster Action Account as Local System, or as a domain user with full local admin privileges on all the cluster nodes.
When looking at the management pack and the workflow in particular (Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Node.StateMonitoring), I can see that it's trying to access
MSCluster_Node in the root\MSCLUSTER WMI namespace.
This is the workflow for your information...

I can confirm that I am able to browse the MSCluster_Node class locally, as well as remotely using WMIEXPLORER and WBEMTEST,
however it only works when I set the Authentication Level to
Packet Privacy.  If I do not select Packet Privacy, a WMI event log error 5605 is logged on the remote servers application log that says...
The root\mscluster namespace is marked with the RequiresEncryption flag.  Access to this namespace might be denied if the script or application does not have the appropriate authentication level.  Change the authentication level to Pkt_Privacy
and run the script or application again.
I can confirm that all firewalls are turned off, and there are no firewalls between the management servers and the agents in question.  AV exclusions have been done and appear to be in place.  The nodes are all Windows 2008 R2 with SP1.  As
far as I can tell there is plenty of memory available on each of the nodes in question (50%+) of RAM is available.
If I manually run the "Discover the Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster Components" task in the Cluster Service State section of the management pack in the Monitoring Pane in the console, on the nodes in question - the discovery runs successfully.
Does anybody have any other ideas or suggestions I could try?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Noel.
