Problem dragging audio track

I am using iMovie HD 5.0.2 to sync some audio with a video. I only need to line up the audio and then export to AIFF so I can covert the AIFF to AC3 and mux it with an m2v file. My problem is that I was able to clip the unneeded beginning of the audio and drag the audio clip forward to match up with the video but iMovie is not letting me move the audio forward again. I am a touch off (the audio starts at .08 seconds into the video and I need it to start at .07 seconds). iMovie is not letting me move the audio to the left up to that .07 second mark (or even before that mark had I wanted it there) nor is it letting me move the audio back. Additionally, it seems to take a lot of work just to highlight the track again so I can try to move it.
Here is an screenshot in case that is helpful: http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/7397/picture2kb.png
Can anyone recommend how to solve this problem?

Hi Danielmak,
I haven't used iMovie HD (nor HD 6) for a while, so working from memory here!
Drag the audio track to the Desktop. This creates an .aiff audio file which can be opened in QuickTime Player or iTunes or other audio program. Import the aiff track into iTunes. Now place the iMovie playhead at the exact point where you wish the audio track to start. Finally, highlight the track in the Audio section of the Media window and click on "Place at Playhead".
If this works successfully, you will need to delete the original audio track, which will be still in place. Dragging it to the Desktop doesn't move it, but simply copies it.
These instructions apply to iMovie HD 6 but something similar should also work for iMovie HD (version 5.0.2) - just can't recall the exact layout.
If iMovie doesn't like the .aiff file, you may need to convert it to mp3 (easily done in iTunes).
Hope this works for you!

  • Problems with audio tracks

Happily pressing on with my first project when problems arose with audio tracks. Suddenly - when I added video clips I got sound on A2 but nothing showing on A1 (and sound only from right hand speaker). Clips are okay as sound is on both sides when played in Viewer and Canvas just can't add them both to timeline. It was okay up until the point I did my first audio fades within a clip (using the 'elastic bands'). Now I can't even insert a clip with both tracks ahead of that point. A1 just won't accept anything.
Now when I add a clip I only get audio on A3!!!!
Voiceovers all went onto A6 and are okay but is it normal for them to hide down there?
I am sure this is finger trouble on my part as I am so new to FCE but can anyone tell me how to recover?
    Thanks,
    Tom.

Sounds to me like the audio targeting is amiss somewhere.
In the audio tracks you will notice a1 & A1: meaning audio track 1 and the audio will go to that track when edited. To get stereo, two tracks will be used eg. a2 & A2. Having A1 and A2 is FCEs default setting with a1 & a2 selected. This setting will place stereo audio into these default tracks. If, for example, you want the tracks to be edited to A5 & A6 then you move the a1 to a5 and a2 to A6 (click and drag). This is called track targeting for obvious reasons, untill you change it, all new edited tracks go to tracks 5 & 6.
Click on a1 twice, did you notice it move and seperate from A1, this is a de-selected state (a gap between a1 & A1). When a clip is edited to A1 in this state it means no audio will be added to that track. Most likely you have an unlinked audio track. I hope this brief bit of info helps you figure out what audio ends up where in the Timeline.
Regarding recovery, you could try the AutoSave Vault. Go back to a date and time that is before things went wrong and open that project.

  • Problems with audio track when burnt to DVD

    Hi there,
I'm using CS4, and have created a 30 minute film which I've exported as an H.264 - it's 653MB. When I play this file from my PC, it's perfect. When I burn it to a data DVD, however, the audio track is interrupted every few seconds with blips of silence - like it's stalling. (I've been unable to burn it as a video DVD so far as the various software I've tried rejects the file format.)
I've burnt it twice on my laptop and once on another desktop with the same results. I urgently need to send the file to a Mac owner - what should I do? Could this be a fault with the file or with the burning software? Perhaps I didn't do something right with the audio track?
    I'll greatly appreciate your help!
    Thank you :-)

    For authoring a DVD-Video, follow Harm's advice and Export to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio.
For a DVD-Data, you should not have an issue with the H.264, BUT some have had problems if using Apple's H.264. Many users find that the Lead, or MainConcept H.264 has fewer issues.
Also, do you have a Matrox card? They have been known to cause Audio issues, so you will definitely want to update any Matrox drivers.
    Good luck,

  • Problems capturing audio track

I am having a problem capturing from my DV camera into Final Cut Pro (version 5.1.4) on a souped up G4. I made a few changes to the hardware configuration recently, but the problem started prior to these upgrades so I don't think it is related. I installed an ATA drive and replaced a defective USB2/FW800 Sonnet card.
I thought I had a problem with the playback head on the camera when the capture issues first started. I got black horizontal bars on the screen of the camera as well as on the screen when I attempted to capture footage. I also got timecode error messages. I was able to capture some of the tape in FCP using a different camera, but upon examination I noticed both audio tracks are missing small segments of data. There are a few blank spots scattered throughout the footage. The picture is fine. The problem is in the audio tracks only. both tracks in the same area.
One of the camera repair people I talked to said the tape could be bad. Does this make sense if only the audio track is missing segments and the picture track is complete?
Thanks, I appreciate any help you can give me in figuring this out.

Thanks for your suggestions and opinion. I am reading everyone's comments. In order to get the most from this discussion, please answer each of these questions separately so the people who are following it will have no trouble following the answers that apply to each.
I distinctly remember when I was shooting the footage of the problem tape, the picture looked fine. It was not until I tried to review the tape that the problem appeared.
    1. Is it possible that the camera works for shooting but the camera playback head is causing problems?
    2. Can a bad playback head damage the tape on playback?
    2. Can shooting onto a bad tape damage a camera?
    3. Is it possible to shoot with a camera with a bad playback and then use another drive for playback?
Thanks for your help. I do know a few people who are having playback problems, since all the tape cameras are getting old, so we appreciate this discussion.

  • Problem inserting audio track into timeline

Sorry, I'm a newbie, and I'm sure this is a dumb question -- but I can't seem to answer it myself.
Working with the latest Windows CS6 update and 1080/60p video from my Panasonic AVCHD camcorder, I find the only way I can move a clip from the Source Monitor to the Timeline is by dragging and dropping.  Any other method (clicking on the "insert" icon, keyboard shortcuts) moves only the video, leaving the audio behind.
What am I doing wrong, or what do I not understand?

Okay, that sent me in the right direction. Now I understand.
    Thank you!

  • Problems with audio track through US-122 in Logic Express

    Hi,
This may be a completely stupid question, but I'm having problems with recording through my Tascam US-122 in Logic Express. I can't get anything to register on the level meter in Logic Express (neither direct input nor microphone input). However, I can get the input from the Tascam to register in the system preferences menu outside of Logic, and can get the built in mic on my IBook to register inside of logic. Does anyone have any ideas for me to try out? I've looked in the manual and I'm supposed to be getting the Logic Express training book soon, but I was hoping to record sooner than that.
    Thanks!
    Shawn J

Sorry, ignore the above. I needed to enable record before the level would show up.

  • Stereo vs. Mono Audio Tracks - Why?

I tink one of the most annyoying features of Premiere is the way it handles audio tracks.  I'm curious if this is just me or if anyone else out there is bothered by the same thing.
I work on a kids' show that has lots of music, sound effects and often 4 different mics for the actors at the same time.  Since I record 2 mics on each cam (R and L), I like to import everything as mono clips so it breaks up my audio and I can label who's on what layer/track.
Sometimes I end up with 20 different audio tracks.  Not because I NEED 20 layers, but because some of my SFX and music come in as stereo and others as mono and I can't put a mono-clip on a stereo clip or vice versa.  This is the part that drives me crazy.  I might need to add a 1-second swoosh SFX for some text coming in and I've got to go to layer 12 (scrolling way down), when just below the video there are 11 empty layers "available" but can't be used because they won't accept placement of that track because it's in stereo when the clip is mono.  Make sense?  So, really, instead of needing 20 tracks, I could EASILY get by with 10 IF Premiere had a way of not being so picky about whether a track is stero or mono and could just handle whatever you dish at it.

Maybe I have just used PrPro long enough, that I accept the Audio Tracks and channel-count. It makes perfect sense to me, but then maybe I am missing something important. If one does not have the necessary Audio Track, PrPro will create one for you.
This ARTICLE goes into much more detail.
Only thing that I would like changed, is the ability to drag Audio Tracks up/down, like on many DAW's. Otherwise, there is a little "dance," that needs to be done, to organize Audio Tracks.
    Good luck,

  • Problems with audio panning.

Am having problems with audio tracks. For example: when capturing a clip where a person is talking, there would be 2 tracks of audio - one a radio mic (Track 1) and another mic (Tack 2)capturing ambient sound. I often delete the ambient track (Track 2) and am left with the the main audio from a radio mic (Track 1).
The problem is when I open up the main audio track (Track 1) and pan the audio track from -1 to 0 or even to +1! It says it has done it but the sound still comes out of the left speaker.
It is a very recent problem that I wonder may be something to do with preferences or settings.
We have had no problems with the speakers at all.
    Thanks very much,
    Geoff

You have your audio outputs set to 'dual mono', not 'stereo'.... go to:
Sequence>Settings> 'Audio Outputs' tab > then highlight the 'Stereo' button, then click OK...

  • Encore CS3 - Hangs and import problems with menus and avi footage with audio tracks present.

I'm trying to import some footage files in .avi format into Encore CS3 and am having several problems.
In what follows when I say "crash" I mean Encore quits with a standard Windows error. When I say "hang" I mean Encore does not quit but rather becomes an unresponsive process that must be killed manually using Windows Task Manager.
    My System:
    WinXP Pro SP2
2.93 GHz Intel Celeron CPU - single core
    Intel PERL mobo
    3GB 400MHz RAM
    NVidia 7800GS video
I mention these specs however I am not experiencing any hardware
related bugs or issues (like out of memory or video driver crashes
etc) when using any CS3 app.
The footage files (as reported by GSpot) and problems I am seeing. In all cases GSpot reports that I have the appropriate codec installed:
    footage1.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 192kb/s, 716834 KB
Attempting to import as timeline causes Encore CS3 to hang.
Importing as an Asset allows it to import but when I try to click
on it in the project windown to add it to a new empty timeline,
Encore hangs. It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
    footage2.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG-1 Layer 3 48kHz 128kb/s, 718302 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no audio.

with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no
audio. I tried converting this one using AVS to both MPEG3 and DivX,
each using MPEG1-Layer3 44kHz 192kb/s audio, and got the same issue
upon importing into Encore CS3. I also loaded it into Camtasia
Studio and it looked fine over there. The audio was present and I
was able to export it as a .WAV file. When I tried looking at the
file in Soundbooth CS3, there was no audio track or, more
accurately, the audio track was a flat line.
By way of comparison these are importing perfectly:
    footage4.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Beta2, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 189kb/s Two mono
    channels LAME3.96r, 717436 KB.

Although this one imported & transcoded correctly, when I went to
build it to a DVD image file I got some strange errors during the
"planning video" stage that prevented the process from completing.
Unfortunately I neglected to write down the error message I recieved
which read like quite nonsensical babble to me, and I have since
deleted the project folder. I remember it was not a memory or
display related error and it included a timestamp where the error
was happening. I played the footage in the preview panel thru the
identified timestamp but it previewed perfectly without even a
jitter in either the video or audio. Took forever to transcode so I
doubt I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the

Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the remote control to make it appear. Other than that it seems to play ok in that player. Also tested it in 2 other DVD players (a Panasonic and Zenith) and it worked just fine like it's supposed to in them. Also plays perfectly in my computer's DVD player/burner using Windows Media Player v10. I tried burning to Memorex +RW single-layer single-sided disks at 6, 7, & 8Mbps project settings but got the exact same result every time.
Encore CS3 crashes fairly often during authoring, particularly during imports, and when I go to edit things like calling up a timeline in the timeline panel, dragging footage into an existing timeline, or changing button links in a menu etc.. I have also experienced seemingly random hangs even more often, probably 5 or 6 times as often as a crash. Saving the project after every little change I make, then closing and restarting Encore allows me to make progress albeit at a significantly reduced workflow rate. Accessing Photoshop from Encore appears to be working flawlessly so far aside from the slow load times. Encore hangs sometimes during video transcoding, repeat the process and it works ok. If I try to import a menu from the library after importing my footage files, Encore hangs trying to import it either at the 50% mark or the 99% mark (it varies even with the same exact menu selected from the library). If I import the menu first and the footage after, then no problems. Also trying to render motion menus after importing footage causes Encore to hang, render before footage import and everything works ok. Interestingly enough, previewing my project in Encore's monitor or preview panels works perfectly even in High quality mode -- in fact it operates quite smoothly in comparison to other apps I have tried. Although those footage files that had missing audio tracks on import obviously played silently, I have yet to experience a hang or crash during a preview or when scrubbing through a timeline in the monitor panel.
The last problem I've seen is with the project cache files. It doesn't always get rid of cache files when stuff is deleted from the project. I was working on one project and surprisingly ran out of disk space. When I tracked it down I found that there were some two dozen copies of a footage file I had repeatedly imported and deleted from the project still sitting in the cache folder. The file was an avi about 2GB so it was taking up some 40 GB of disk space for stuff that was no longer in the project. I tried shutting down Encore and manually deleting all the cache files, and that worked for most of them, but there was one 2GB file that kept reappearing in the cache folder even though it was no longer in the project. The XML file in the cache folder still had references to it in there so I can only assume that was the reason it kept showing up. I eventually had to delete and totally recreate the project from scratch to regain my lost disk space. This included having to sit thru a 6 hour long transcoding session which pissed me off to no end.
Encore CS3 appears on the surface to be a very powerful, feature rich, and approachable app with a simple easy to use interface, but it is awfully bugged in just about every area I have explored and still needs lots and lots of work for it to be really useful. Frankly for me it is pretty damn annoying that I have invested so much money in this suite only to find several of the apps in it (Encore & Premiere in particular) behaving this poorly. In my opinion every single app in the suite exhibits lousy performance whenever you must do anything at all involving the disk from the time you click to start it up until the time you click to close it down. Several of them are just as seriously bugged as Encore too, and being a long time Photoshop v5.5 user I expected much more from Adobe. Even Photoshop is two or three times as slow now (e.g. it takes about 20-30 seconds to simply create an empty 500x500 pixel image file and almost a full minute to load a 30x60 pixel single-layer gif). So far I have attempted to create 6 DVDs using Encore and after 3 weeks of effort have only succeeded in getting one of them onto a final disk -- and that one is kinda limping to work correctly in my DVD player. Three of those projects became so corrupted while working on them that I had to delete them completely and recreate them from scratch, only to find that I still couldn't get them to completion for one reason or another. Seriously disappointing.

  • New audio track in arrange page problem

In the LSA I have 64 audio tracks and 32 audio instruments set up. When I open Logic, my autoload contains 16 audio tracks and my environment is configured as I set it up in the LSA. Everything is as it should be. However, when I select track 16 in the arrange page and use the key command control>shift>return to add another track, audio16 is duplicated. When I use the menu to 'create with next instrument' audio17 is created, but in my environment, my 64 audio tracks are reduced to 24. Using the menu to add audio tracks only lets me add to 24.
I've trashed my preferences but that did nothing.
One thing that may be relevant is that after setting up the LSA as described above, I copied an old autoload from my powerbook that only contained 24 audio tracks. After realizing that I need more tracks I trashed that autoload and re-ran the LSA. (on a side note - your autoload will trump your LSA set-up if they differ). I think that the old autoload is still causing a problem even though I trashed it.
Any help in the frustrating situation is most appreciated!

It is normal that Logic uses the same audio object
when you create a track with control-shift-return,
that's the way it's supposed to be. If you want to
create a new track and a new audio object assigned to
it, "create with next instrument" is the way to do
it. You could also use "create multiple..."
in the drop down menu it says that the key command for 'create with next instrument' is control>shift>return.
If you're limited to 24 tracks, I'd check in your
audio preferences. Your maximum tracks limit is
    probably set to 24 tracks.
my audio preferences are set to 64 tracks of audio.
    thanks for the reply!

  • Movies - Multiple audio tracks strange problem

    This is a strange problem.
I have a .mov with 2 audio tracks. One italian (the first and active) and one english. The movie is compatible with ATV.
Using QuickTime Pro I can choose the language while watching the movie.
Using iTunes I see the movie with the first language selected on preferences (cmd+j on QuicTime Pro).
On ATV the same movie plays just English, the second language, and this is quite strange.
Does anyone have the same problem?
    Greetings
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hmm, I don't really know. I have converted the DVD with 128 kbps for the two audio traks (stereo).Sounds like I need to go back and run additional tests. For my first attempt, I used two stereo tracks -- each 128 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz. For latest test used two mono tracks with the first 64 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz (keyed to English) and the second 32 Kbps @ 32 KHz (keyed to Italian).
I create a m4v video, I open with QuickTime Pro and work on the preferences for audio traks, than I save with mov extension.Had assumed we were both using similar strategies to create alternate audio movies here. Basically I create the movie with two audio tracks and then open the "Properties" window, select the first audio track (which is already set for English), set the alternate audio track pop-up for Audio Track 2, select the second audio track, set the language pop-up to Italian for this one, and use the Save As... menu option to create a Fast Sart, Standalone movie in the MOV container.
In this way I have a perfect double-language movie that, as I told, works perfectly on QuickTime and iTunes.Did have one question though. When you say you have a "perfect double-language movie that ... works perfect on QuickTime and iTunes," are you saying you can change the language in iTunes while the movie is playing? While I have no problem changing language using the "Choose language" menu command in the QT player, I have yet to be able to find a way to do this while playing in iTunes.
UPDATE: to temporally solve the problem I have changed the infos on movie properties. Calling the English audio track "Holland" (or any other language that is listed after Italian) I have solved the problem. On Tv, iTunes and Quicktime I can hear the "default" language (italian) and, just changing again the properties, I cand hear the second language.I think we are doing the same thing only I did not bother/have to use and additial language setting to get this to work.
In this case Audio Track 2 (Italian) is the default.
In this case Audio Track 1 (English) is the default.
Thus, for my test, I created two separate movies with each defaulted differently and played them back in each program/device to see which audio track played. In each case it was the "checked" default audio track and changing the "Language" setting for TV to Italian had no effect.

  • Encore CS6: Rebuilding audio tracks | PROBLEM

    Hello, guys. Greetings from Brazil.
I'm having a problem with Encore CS6 during the authoring process and thought you guys could help me out with this. My Blu-ray project contains 29 video files (total of 2h 22m) and I have 5 psd menus (with an audio background from another file) in it. The files weren't with the same resolution/settings so I converted them in .MOV files with the same audio rate but keeping the resolution differences. I watch it inside Encore and it works just fine.
The problem is when I try to build the disc, image or folder: it stucks at the "Rebuilding audio tracks" and doesn't go on by any chance. I've started over from scratch 4 times and the same message keeps bothering me.
The first time I built, it was in a DVD format (exported a DVD folder), then I duplicated the project and changed the settings, putting it to a Blu-Ray configuration. It was right then that these issues started and now I can't build any Blu-Ray and DVD either.
Please, can you guys help me?
    Many thanks.

Sorry for doubling the post, Bens.
So, I fixed the issue by replacing the Play All timeline (in which I reinserted the mov clips in a long, continuous sequence) for a Playslist, using the timelines that were already created. I found an information that the act of putting mov files in a long sequence may cause a sort of incompatibility with the audio tracks. Something about the ac3, don't know exactly
But yes, the problem was solved when I used a Playlist instead of a new, huge, timeline.
    Thanks for the help anyway.

  • Problems Sycing multiple Audio tracks with Video. Please help

I have a video clip from my Cannon 70D that im trying to sync with 2 seperate audio tracks from my Zoom. One LR stero track and one wireless mic track.
I select all three clips in the event windo and chose SYNC CLIPS from the clip menu. I take the Syncronized clip and place it in the time line , but when i go to expand audio there are only two track available - The scratch audio from the camera clip and what appears to the LR audio from the Zoom. Hard to tell though because Final Cut renames the Audio for me. I did notice that the sample rate on the video and audio files are different. Could that be the problem?

I haven't had much luck with SYNC CLIPS. I suggest you use Multicam instead.
Go to the Inspector and set up your Canon video as Angle 1. Set Zoom XY as Angle 2, and set Zoom wireless mic as Angle 3. Then Select the clips and FILE/NEW MULTICAM CLIP.

  • Problems with Multi Track Audio Recording

I'm having difficulties getting Logic to record multiple audio tracks. Basically, I'm using a MOTU 896HD Firewire Interface and despite setting up audio objects in the environment window to receive from the relevant inputs and assigning those to tracks it doesn't seem to allow for each wave of audio to be recorded separately.
Last night I was trying to record 4 tracks - 2 vox and 2 guitars and had no luck. On the first two tracks it was recording identical waves with both vox and guitar together of one musician. And for tracks 3 and 4 it was recording the vox and guitar of the same musician in each track, like it should have done in tracks 1 and 2. It did not record the other musician's parts at all ignoring him altogether. I just don't understand because I tested each mic and guitar to check whether it was in fact receiving audio from the source and it worked fine when getting levels but when it came to recording everything messed up.
Can any of you kind people help me? I'm obviously doing something very wrong but cant for the life of me understand.....all thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Just thought I would let anyone who's reading this
topic know that I have resolved my issue, it was to
do with the Audio Configuration of Logic to the
inputs from the MOTU. I went to Logic>Audio>Audio
Configuration and configured it so that each track
    received from the respective inputs.

  • Nesting Sequences (Audio Tracks Problem)

I am trying to use Premiere to make a rough (rough!) edit of some audio. There is no video yet.*
I made a handful of sequences in Premiere, all of which consist of edited audio clips.
Now I have created a new big sequence, and I want to nest the audio sequences in this new big sequence. (I only want to bring in the audio, if I can do this easily.)
When I drag the sequences into the new big sequence, it keeps dumping the audio on Track 9, which didn't exist before.
How tough will it be to put the audio of the nested sequences on Track 1?
*Animations will be made later in After Effects and added to the timeline to go with the audio. Until then, there's no video.

Your sequence setup is messing things up. Audio tracks are either mono, stereo or 5.1. If you have only stereo tracks (indicated by the two speaker icon at the left side of the track), they can not be placed in a mono or 5.1 track. If a stereo track is missing, one will be created for you. Same with the other formats. There is nothing wrong with a 9-th audio track, but you can delete the empty tracks above it easily to move your audio track to the first track.
Basically, you need to adjust your sequence settings.
