Problem in App store. It wont let me download a free app. Says "There is a problem with previous purchase" It wont let me go further and nothing has been purchased :/ HELP. Wont even let me see what MAY have been attempted to be bought....
Serious issue here. I have no idea what is going on. It will not let me download even a free app. Anyone know how to correct this?

You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it
For your security questions, if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then the steps half-way down this page will give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset.

When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use.
For the credit card, how was the account created ? Unless the instructions on this page were used when creating the account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
then you will need to enter credit card details before the account can be used to download any item from the store. If you do enter credit card details then you should be able to remove it afterwards : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918

Im trying to update my apps and it wont let me. When i clicked on an app to update it or to download a free app it says "sign in required, tap continue and sign in to view your billing information" when i did it says "you must verify your payment info before you can makes purchases" then "security code is invalid" when the security code is valid. I even switched credit card it keeps saying the same thing....... THIS IS NOT FAIR........ I WANNA UPDATE MY APPS!!!!! I currently have my credit card on my iTunes account and when I have no money in my bank account it won't let me download the free apps even though they don't cost anything. How do I stop this so I can download or remove my credit card?
All downloads from iTunes are tied to the account that downloaded it, you can't re-download content via a different account. You checked the spam folder on yourr old account as well as the Inbox, and depending upon how long ago you did it, have you retried getting it reset : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password' ?

They can provided you remove them from the Exclude list. Normally, Time Machine does not automatically backup external drives.

Is there a pacman command (or any command) that will tell me what files in the whole system have been modified from their original packaged state?
EDIT 8/31/2013 2:17pm: pacman now has the -Qk and -Qkk options to see files that have been modified, removed, touched, chmodded etc. This works only for packages that contain a valid mtree file. Not all packages contain an mtree file, but efforts by package maintainers are being made to include these in packages. Read more in `man pacman`.
Last edited by trusktr (2013-08-31 21:17:54)There is no native pacman (or related) command, but I made it an habit of mine (coming from Slackware) to create backups of config files with a certain extension before modifying them.
Mostly they are tracked through pacman anyway (backup files), so whenever there's an update that creates a .pacnew file (see the section "handling config files" in the pacman manpage), I have a /etc/file.conf_orig to compare to.
I also try to keep my modifications as minimal as possible or to post feature requests on the bugtracker to get the maintainer to follow the upstream more closely.
That way you could see 1) your modifications with a simple diff between current config and _orig config and 2) what has changed in the update by diffing conf.pacnew and _orig. -
Trying to download iOS 5 it says there is a problem with my Windows Installer Package?Help?
I'm trying to download the iOS 5 and I get almost all the way done but then it stops when it's on Status and goes to an error and says "There is a problem with this windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have a windows vista computer.. but it should be able to run on it...
Any ideas on how to fix this??
Thanks!!'NOsaint09' - I was getting your same error message trying to install the iTunes 10.5 update on my Windows XP machine (in order to install iOS 5 on my iPhone 4). Tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes several times to no avail - same message, no install.
Well, after reading the above post by 'wiss...' i went to start Apple Software Update and was getting another (very cryptic) error message just trying to start ASU. I thought perhaps the problem with this program was causing iTunes 10.5 not to install - so I went to uninstall Apple Software Update using Windows Add/Remove Programs, and got another error message (not allowing the uninstall)!
Knowing there are programs out there just for the purpose of doing a forced & thorough uninstall, I search Cnet Downloads for the best free Uninstaller and downloaded Revo Uninstaller. Used Revo to uninstall Apple Software Update (and all associated files/data it found in registry).
Then to be sure, ran Disk Cleanup in windows to empty the Temp files/folders and Restarted the computer.
Finally, I ran the iTunes Setup.exe for 10.5 and it installed successfully!! Woohoo! I hope my experience may help others with similar troubles!

I purchased a new iphone 4 last week and it has been working fine until yesterday the screen was freezing. Today I have restored factory settings and restored settings from a back up from a previous iphone 3G. The restore has not fixed the freezing issue. Any thoughts?

Your only other option would be to contact the iTunes Store, explain the problem, and ask if they'll cancel that 99-cent purchase. There's no way of knowing if they will since the terms of sale state that all sales are final, but you can ask. Go here:

Mac App Store won't allow re-downloading of deleted apps
I am experiencing very glitchy behaviour with the Mac App Store. The store can't tell when individual apps are deleted, and therefore won't allow re-download. This has been going on for a while - when I click on the Purchases tab all Apps are still listed as Installed and the button is greyed out - I can't click to re-download. At the same time, an app that I previously did download and later removed called Cobook won't delete from the computer - after a few minutes to an hour it will re-appear in my Applications folder.
I have done a clean re-install of Mountain Lion trying to fix this problem, however the same problem exists even after a re-install - Apps that had been deleted prior to the clean install are still greyed out in the Purchases tab, and can't be re-downloaded. The only way that Apps can be re-installed is to use Time Machine backup. I am concerned that this means that updates also aren't working, since the App Store doesn't seem to know what Apps are on my computer and which ones aren't.
Yes I am using the correct Apple ID assocaited with the purchases. My purchase history shows up just fine in the Purchases tab, its just that they are stuck showing that they are currently installed, even the ones that aren't.
Mountain Lion 10.8.2, 21.5" iMac (mid-2011).The problem is possibly worse than I expected. Since the clean re-install, now any App purchased and downloaded via App Store won't appear in the Purchases tab. So in other words, although the download seems to work correctly, and the app works, the App Store seems to lose all track of it. Which is a problem for paid apps.

Your post says you have an iPhone 3G. Is it running iOS 4.2.1, which is the latest iOS it can run? Even if so, it's now quite old (nearly five years). That could be part of the problem.
Anyway, maybe you should delete your mail account (Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -- if it was still called that back in the iOS 4.2.1 days), and start over.

Correct, but you may need to install some software on each computer that you want to be able to monitor in the household. OpenDNS will walk you through the setup.
If you want to go back in time, there are also professional applications (read very expensive) that will reveal the browsing history of a given computer.....even if the browsing history has been erased by the user.
You will have to have physical access to the computer to use these applications. Post back if you need a few names. -

The 'problem with a previous purchase' message implies that iTunes wasn't able to collect the money for your last purchase - until that is paid you won't be able to download anything else from the store, including free items, updates to apps and redownloading past purchases.
You will have to enter payment details that are accepted by the iTunes validation, or (and if they are available in your country) redeem an iTunes gift card onto your account : Pay an unpaid balance in the iTunes Store - Apple Support
