Problem in datasource enhancement

Hi All,
Facing a problem in datasource enhancement.
In R/3 SAP ABAP release = 640 and
BW release = 350.
Datasource: 0WBS_ELEMT_ATTR
I enhanced the datasource by adding an append structure with 'ZZ' fields.The data elements for these fields are SAP standard (like KUNNR,VKORG etc...)
Everything's active and there are no inconsistencies.
However these added fields are not visible either in the RSA6 maintenance or in RSA3 checker.
Hence I am unable to replicate these fields and pull them over to BW.
Please advise.

Guys,
The problem is not with hiding/unhiding these fields.
The appended fields themselves are not coming up through the RSA6 maintenance. They are not available for unhiding.
Please advise.

        I am trying to enhance the data source - 0CO_OM_CCA_9 in R/3. When I try to activate the append structure, I am getting the below error.
Field REFBT in table ICCTRCSTA1 is specified twice. Please check

    Two fields of the table have identical names, but field names must be
    unique within a table.

    Check the names of the table fields and correct them.
In the above error msg, REFBT is a strandard field coming with the data source, I am not sure why it is mentioning about this. This field is present only once ithe extract structure - ICCTRCSTA1. This msg is repeated for the customer fields too. The custom field has not even part of extract structure..After this, I am unable to activate the extract structure at all. I always get the above syntax error. Version comparison of the data source in RSA5, does not show up any difference. Re activating it from RSA5 did not help.
Any thoughts would be helpful...

Hi Adarsha,
Since the field REFBT is already present in the extract structure ICCTRCSTA1 , you cannot add another field with the same name in your appended structure . Because when you will try to activate your appended structure , that structure goes and sit in your standard extract structure i.e ICCTRCSTA1 and at the same time it does a syntactic check of the field names .
So to resolve your issue , just choose another name of the field .

Creating BADI for datasource enhancement in CRM system

I am working on SAP BI/BW. This is the first time I am working in CRM system with CRM datasources. Facing some problem for datasource enhancement as never done it before in the CRM system. Is there anyone who can help in in creating BADI for datasource enhancement in CRM.

Hi Kushal,
You can find the BADI name by,
Go to Transaction SE24
Enter the Object Type CL_EXITHANDLER and click on Display.
Double Click on method "GET_INSTANCE".
Put a Break-point on Call method cl_exithandler=>get_class_name_by_interface
Run RSA3 transaction and execute the DataSource.
The execution will stop at the break point.
Check the values of variable 'exit_name', it will give you the BADI name called at that time.

Find the Exact exits and badis for ur requirement.
How to fine the exact badi:
1) Goto se24 (Display class cl_exithandler)
2) Double click on the method GET_INSTANCE.
3) Put a break point at Line no.25 (CASE sy-subrc).
Now
4) Execute SAP standard transaction
5) Press the required button for which you need to write an exit logic, the execution will stop at the break point.
6) Check the values of variable 'exit_name', it will give you the BADI name called at that time.
7) This way you will find all the BADIs called on click of any button in any
transaction

Different ways to Datasource Enhancement

I know DS enhancement can be done through ABAP Statement CASE,ENDCASE,WHEN. I came to know that this is old technique to enhance the datasource as it makes the code quite messy if several developers work on the same code.
I came across one document on SDN where we create a new program for each datasource which is independent from other enhancement.
I just want to know how this program works and the difference between this technique and old technique as i have limited ABAP knowledge.
What are the exact challenges that we come across when we use CASE,ENDCASE,WHEN statements.

Hi Murli,
1) Datasource enhancement previously was done using CMOD Still many organizatins continue with this approach.
Here you can get option to write code for your appended field in ur Standard datsource where you can write select statements etc.
2) Now SAP is recommending to Write Codes using BADI .this approach helps to maintain individual implementations for each data source enhancement
This methods advantage over previous CMOD method is that ,in CMOD a single include will contain all the ABAP coding (this will create problem in marinating the versions for developers).specially while you are transporting the CMOD code to test and prod systems.
With the new BADI method you can avoid this problem as individual implementations can be transported independently without creating conflicts.

Hi ALL
I have deployed a EJB(Session Bean) in Oracle-OC4J Container.I am using datasources, in my bean as well as in my client
application.Here Client is deployed along with bean in container.
I am using "ejb-location"JNDI Name inside Client to get connection.
(Which is mentioned in datasource element of datasources.xml)
For this i have configured datasources.xml also.
If i use "oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource" in datasources.xml then ClassNotFoundException is coming.
But i have included classes12.jar in home/lib directory
But if i use "com.evermind.sql.ConnectionDataSource" then i am getting connection.But if i do some operations(Even
setAutoCommit(false))its giving NULL PointerException.
Why this is happening?

There are two issues. If your entry is like this....
location="microDS"
xa-location="jdbc/xa/MicroXADS"
ejb-location="MicroPool"
...then use ejb-location for database calls through ejb and location when you try to get through normal java client.

I am trying to enhance text datasourcein R3 and got this problem.
I am trying to load texts for infoobject 'material number' fromR3 table MAKT.....I created view on fields MANDT,MATNR,MAKTX (client,material number,material description) and then created generic datasource onthis.now I replicated and loaded texts to Infoobject 'Material Number' in BW.
Now I want to enhance text datasource in R3 so that I will add field MAKTG (material description in capital letters) from MAKT table...I added append structure in extract structure...then I want to write code in CMOD....Here I choose RSAP0001 enhancement...then EXIT_SAPLRSAP003 for enhancing text datasource...here there is no code provided by SAP...so wrote my own code..and activated and then unchecked 'hide field' ....saved the datasource....nowcame to Extractor Checker RSA3 to check if code is working....I am able to see the new field MAKTG but its not populated..it means my code or my way of doing enhancement is wrong...Can anyone please suggest any solution....

Hi,
Just check once if the function module EXIT_SAPLRSAP_003 is active...
Becuse after writing code int he include ZXRSAU03 you will have to activate the funciton module...
This has to be done the first time when you implement the include...
If still it doesnt work.. You can put a break point in your code and then debug from RSA3 to chk whey it isnt working...

Attribute Datasource Enhancement - Missing Data

Hi All,
   I have enhanced a datasource 0EMPLOYEE_ATTR with one field from PA0007 table. When I test the enhanced datasource, via RSA3, I see that the field is correctly populated (EVERYTIME). But when I load the data into BW first few times no data came into that field (remaining data is correct). Then a completely random behavior started. The data is getting populated into the field sometimes and sometimes the field does not get populated at all. There is no specific reason or action or count that would define a pattern.
   Has anyone come across this issue? Points shall be rewarded.
PLEASE NOTE: The code in the function exit is completely correct as the RSA3 on the source sytem always shows the data extraction correctly. The problem only happens when the data is loaded into the BW system (with or without PSA). The behaviour is completely random.

   Nope this did not help. I checked everything. The problem is not consistent. Sometimes the field gets populated perfectly ... sometimes it does not.

DataSource Enhancements : Maximum Fields

Dear Friend,
How many fields we can add to DataSource to Enhance ( Maximum Fields), I heard if it is more then 20 fields it is not good, but please let me know the correct one.
I found some Master Data TEXT/Description fields also enhanced in 2LIS_13_VDITM, if any Special Chars will come in the Data loads, then there may be huge problem, is it right?. please help me.

Hi Ganga,
As far as my Knowledge goes , from a DDIC prespespective you can add as many fields as possible to the extract structure. The only limitation would be that imposed by the underlying Database.
Even if you add 20 extra fields I do'nt think there should not be any problem if you get all these values using one select statement. But if more than one select statement is used , performance would surely go down.
What I mean is that if out of the 20 fields , if 10 are to be read from table 1 and 3 are to be read from table 2 and remaning are to be read from table 3. then this would require two inner joins(if there exists a common key field) otherwise it would require three different select statements. In either case the performanc would come down.

Problem in datasource 0MAT_PLANT

Hi Gurus,
My requirement is to extract "standard cost changes" into BW master data 0MAT_PLANT which is feeded by SAP standard delivered datasource 0mat_plant_attr which doesn't have this field so I have enhanced datasource with this field but changes to standard cost for a given material/plant is extracted to BW when there is a change to other delta-enabled fields in 0mat_plant_attr datasource but my requirement was to trigger standard cost delta changes to BW without changes to attributes so I have gone for generic extractor through View by ALE Delta enabled i.e. the generic datasource(Uses flexible update infosource) thru View will extract only deltas into BW if we need to go for any new records or full upload we have to load them thru standard datasource(Direct update infosource) but now my doubt is as I load huge amount of data daily:
1)There will be any issues like performance wise or anyother when i load millions of records thru this view.
2)Is the data from the standard datasource and generic datasource are consistent as one is direct update and other is flexible.
Would anyone please explain in detail about this. I appreciate it in advance and I gaurantee of award points.

1. Peformance - Business content ( Function Module based ) extractors are always better than eneric ones - and a view holding millions of records will be lesser in performance compared to a business content datasource
2. There is a possibility of inconsistency since the deltas for both data sources are based on different logic - if you do a full update , then it shouldnot be a problem - provided that the business content extractor also extracts from the same tables and no extra logic is involved..

If anybody did the enhancement to these datasources, please give me the information with examples.

No, it is no necesary to enhance standard data sources. Those datasources extract, basically employee and date. Most infoobjects in cube are calculated from 0PERSON and 0EMPLOYEE attributes, having in count the date and employed extracted, because most in HR is time dependent.

In SQL Server, I created a user and a schema with the same name in a database. I created a simple table called "eric" with one column called "id". The user was given the appropriate default schema and given full permissions on the database and table.
