Problem in Obiee 11g when using Essbase as a data source.

Hi,
I imported Essbase objects into RPD. I would like to build an report analyzing by "City" (e.g. HK) and "Channel" (e.g. Bar, Restaurant). However, this dimension combined as one dimension in Essbase. Is there any methods to separate one dimension into two in RPD? Or, is there any trick can I used to complete this task?
Btw, I have tried to duplicate the whole set of Essbase objects in RPD. Then, join the copy to the original object by using the dimension key in both object. For example, "Customer" in original object is joining to "Customer" in copied object. However, an error prompted out when I run the report by dragging the dimension and a "Fact" measure into it.
The error message as follow:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 42015] Cannot function ship the following expression: AggrExternal(D901.c1 by [ D902.c1, D902.c2] ). (HY000)
Is there any method to join an external table to Essbase object in RPD? For example, external table contain (Code, Description, Postal Code) and Essbase table contain only (Code, Description). How can I use the "Postal Code" to a report as well?

It appears that I can view in Excel through the RPD when I am accessing the RPD in offline mode. If I try to access through online mode it just says "Connection Failed".
I also tried viewing the data through Answers but received the following error:

I hope your version less than obiee11.1.1.5.0, version 11.1.1.1.6.0 and above has update SQL 2008 in the data source selection list.

Problem when using MS Access as data source

I want to get the source data from MS Access Database and load the data into a Oracle Database by OWB.
I created a ODBC for the Access Database,and added the correlative informations in the files such as hs/admin/initmsaces.ora��network/admin/listener.ora��network/admin/tnsname.ora.
Then I created a new module under the "DataBase->Other->ODBC" in OWB,the schema I selected is "Undefine"��it is the only one selection��Then I created some mappings.All these steps are successful.
But when I was deploying the project,OWB reported a wrong: Talbe or View is not exist.
I want to know how can I resolve the problem.

I think we are having the same problem and (I think) set up everything as described in the note.
We are using an ODBC connection to an MS-Access database with OWB 9.2. We have successfully defined the data source to OWB, and imported 2 target tables, then mapped one of the tables to a staging table.
The mapping process validates correctly. From Deployment Manager, we register the source file location, which asks for a schema owner, username, and
password. We supply the value admin for each of these as Location Registration windows requires a value for each [no blanks allowed] and the registration is successful.
However, when we Generate/Deploy the mapping, the Generate succeeds, but deployment fails with the error PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist. Looking at the generated code, we see that the SELECT statement in the generated mapping code specifies the source table as owner.table_name@db_link.
From SQL*Plus, the table_name@db_link can be described correctly. Trying to describe owner.table_name@db_link fails with object does not exist error, which is similar to the OWB table does not exist error.
MS-Access has no concept of schema-owner. Is there a way to generate the Mapping without specifying the schema-owner ??.

How to add image in virtual dir / i/ 11g when using the embedded gateway

There is not 1 username/password that I can use. I tried all.

Problems w/ race conditions when using attachmovie

Hello,
   I'm having a strange problem w/ race conditions when using attachmovie.
I have a class linked to a movie clip that I'm attaching to the stage.   The class is
fired off when the movie clip is attached but also other classes are getting loaded at the same time
while the movie clips is attached.     Even though the other classes are called after the
movieclip is attached, they are getting loaded faster and therefor the class linked to the attached movie clip
cannot access their functions.
I'm looking for a listener that will fire off an event ONLY when the attached movieclip is fully loaded but I can't
seem to find any examples of associating a listener to a attachmovie method.
Any ideas?

It is normal for the phone to get hot when your using data such as YouTube videos, streaming music etc.. And as for the left speaker not working, the left speaker is a microphone, the right one is for sound. Don't worry, everything your iPhone is doing is normal.

Using 2 web services data sources in the same report

I've been trying unsuccesffuly to use 2 web services data sources in a report. The main report accesses the first web service to get job summary information. 3 fields are are passed as parameters to a sub-report and used as parameters for the sub-report selection. Each report works fine independently, but when I link them together the subreport alway fails to retrieve data.

Using XML as a Data Source

In http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10540/datasource.htm#CHDBCAIJ it states you can use XML as your data source and mentions...
URLs can include repository or session variables, providing support for HTTP data sources that accept user IDs and passwords embedded in the URL. For example:
http://somewebserver/cgi.pl?userid=valueof(session_variable1)&password=valueof(session_variable2)
I'm trying to pass this:
http://somewebserver/cgi.pl?userid=valueof(NQ_SESSION.USER)
but when I try that I can see in my web server logs that the content of the userid variable is 'valueof(NQ_SESSION.USER)' so it's not passing the results to the web server, just the text. Any ideas what's going on? Is my syntax correct? Thanks!

There are a few things to look at when using session and repository variables within the RPD.
One of the first documents you need to reference is the "What is the Syntax for Referencing Variable?" section within the OBI documentation. In addition look at this section on how to use variables in the RPD, http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10540/variables.htm#BIEMG3104
Basically you are trying to use NQ_SESSION.USER which is the syntax for trying to show the user name is Presentation Services. Of course you can see this in your web server logs because that is the correct syntax for presentation services web tier but not the RPD where you define your XML Source.
You need to try either use VALUEOF("USER") or you are simply forgeting to put the syntax surrounded by single-quotes like, http://somewebserver/cgi.pl?userid='valueof(NQ_SESSION.USER)' to pull the system session variable into the XML URL as needed.
Try those options and let me know if that works.

Can you use SQL as a data source for a project in the same way you can in Excel?

Excel allows you to create a data source that executes a SQL stored procedure, display that data as a table in a spreadsheet and have that data automatically refresh each time you open the spreadsheet. Is it possible to do the same thing in MS Project, displaying
the data from the stored procedure as a series of tasks?
Here's what I'm trying to do - I have a stored procedure that pulls task data meeting a specific criteria from all projects in Project Server. We're currently displaying this data as an Excel report. However, the data includes start dates and durations so
it would be nice to be able to display it as a Gantt Chart. I've played around with creating a Gantt chart in Excel and have been able to do a very basic one, but it doesn’t quite fit our needs.

No, You can not use sql as a data source for a project.
You have 3 options to achieve it:
1. You can create a Sharepoint list with desired column ,fill desired data in that list then you can create a MS project from Sharepoint List.
2. You can create a SSRS report in which you can display grantt chart Joe has given you that link.
3. You can write a macro in MPP which will take data from your excel. In excel you will fetch data from your stored procedure. write a schedule which will run every day to update your data or
create an excel report in which will update automatically and write macro in mpp which will fetch the data then publish it so that it would be available to team members.

Build OBIEE 11g repository accessing Essbase problem

When I use OBIEE 10g to import Essbase cubes metadata, the measures are displayed as 'physical cube columns' in physical layer; however, when I use OBIEE 11g to import the same Essbase cubes metadata, these 'physical cube columns' disappear (i.e., I cannot see profit, margin, etc. anymore) but rather, the measures are shown with 'physical dimension' with a hierarchy structure (up to Gen4 measures).
The implication is that when I drag the structures to BMM layer and then presentation layers, I am not able to select any measures in the presentation layer.
Are there anyone who can help me solve this problem?

Hi user,
Obiee 10g had a big problem importing essbase measures. In order for you to create a measure you needed to make the measure dimension and "Account" type dimension which would mostly be the Scenario dimension rather than the Account dimension.
Obiee 11g allows you to import the account dimensino and decide whether to treat it as measures or as a dimension. Once the cube is imported,right click on it and select "Convert measure dimension to flat measures". This will resolve your problem.

Essbase as a source in OBIEE 11g and using lookup to Relation database

We are trying to implement Essbase as primary source for our obiee 11g repository and using relational database as secondary source of data.
I was using a lookup functionality in repository to lookup value from one of the Essbase's Dimension's attribute to relational database, however, there is error when testing this in OBIEE Dashboards.
And tried to look this error in support.oracle and googled it but was not able to find anything on it.

Is Essbase 11.1.1.3 supported as a source for OBIEE 11g?From the certification matrix (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.xls) we can see that only Essbase 9.3.3+ and 11.1.2+ are supported, not 11.1.1.3

Error 1030723 Unable to get UTF-8 locale when using Essbase API 11.1.1

Now I got a question about how to connect to an Essbase Server by using essbase client API (11.1.1). I encountered an error “Unable to get UTF-8 locale” when I tried to EssInit((pInitStruct, phInstance) API.
However, I had no problem to call the API if I uses essbase previous client APIs (7.1 or 9.3).

I could not find any document to introduce the API (11.1.1. And what does the error “Unable to get UTF-8 locale” mean? How can work around it. Any environment parameters or paths need to be set?

Problems installing OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit

Hi, I'm trying to install OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit (standard edition, SP2), and it's blowing up running the installer. The installer gets past the first couple of "info" screens, but blows up prior to coming to the first "real" screen with an error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Assertion Failed:
Program: ...
File: ../../../src/share/native/sun/font/t2k/t2kstrm.c
Line: 132
Expression: pos <= t->maxPos
Has anyone seen this and/or have an idea how to work around this? Note that I did do the prerequisite download / install of the 2005 Visual C++ 64 bit libraries.

Just to close the loop on this thread, this does indeed seem to be some sort of font / java issue on our servers. I've been completely unable to get the install to work using the GUI. However, if I run it from command line using the -silent and -response paramaters along with a proper response file, the install went perfectly. I'm going to continue working the SR with Oracle - don't want to be stuck using -silent mode when things get more complicated, but at least now I can move forward.
If anyone else has a better workaround - please let me know. "Silent" mode is workable, but difficult and time consuming.

Login Problem in OBIEE 11g.

Hi Experts,
I installed OBIEE 11g on XP. Did started BI Services and OBIEE Presentation Services login page appears and entered userid and password. It gives following error.
Unable to Sign In
An error occurred during authentication. Try again later or contact your system administrator.
Did any one got this error?? Please help me out at this point thanks..........

The GUID of user 'weblogic' does not match user reference GUID at the repository. Please ask the administrator to delete the old user reference at the repository and login again
In order to fix it I had to follow the steps to “Refresh Global Unique Identifiers (GUIDs)” from Fusion Middleware Administrator Guide. The version I am using is 11.1.1.6. The steps is slightly different for each version of OBIEE.
For 11.1.1.6, the steps to be followed are
1. Edit NQConfig.INI and change setting FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS = NO to YES.
2. Edit instanceconfig.xml to enable GUID refresh on restart.

Comment out the line and add an extra line as follows:
UpdateAndExit
3. Use opmnctl to restart the process using stopall and startall
4. After restart, revert the changes. Set FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS to YES.

5. Restart the services again.
After the above steps, we were able to login successfully.
