  • JMF with Fobs4jmf:  Problem getting supported formats

    I'm trying to use JMF with fobs4jmf to try stitching together video files into a single file. Fortunately, I found a sample program to do just that in the SDN website (http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/Concat.html).
    I copied and pasted the Concat.java class in a new Eclipse Java class, set up the classpaths, and tested it. (I've gone through the pain of setting up and resetting classpaths so that the JMF diagnostics is able to detect the correct JMF installation in my machine).
    However, in the tryMatch method of Concat.java, I am getting an empty array of Format objects, represented by the "supported" variable, during a call to the following:
    {color:#0000ff}TrackControl tc = pInfo[0].tracksByType[type][trackID].tc;
    Format origFmt = tc.getFormat();
    Format newFmt, oldFmt;
    Format supported[] = tc.getSupportedFormats();
    for (int i = 0; i < supported.length; i++) {
    if (supported[i] instanceof AudioFormat) {
    // If it's not the original format, then for audio, we'll
    // only do linear since it's more accurate to compute the
    // audio times.
    if (!supported.matches(tc.getFormat()) &&
    !supported[i].getEncoding().equalsIgnoreCase(AudioFormat.LINEAR))
    continue;
    {color:#000000}Here's my problem: While on debug mode, I see that the "supported" variable shows an empty array, when I look deeper in the TrackControl tc variable and look the its supportedFormats instance variable, I can see that it has a value. For my testing, I used a .mov file and the supportedFormats variable contains an {color:#0000ff}AudioFormat{color} with the value {color:#0000ff}mp4a, 32000.0 Hz, 16-bit, Stereo, BigEndian, Signed, FrameSize=32 bits{color}.
    {color}
    {color:#000000}I can't get past through this hurdle for now. Why am I getting an empty array of Format objects when the TrackControl tc variable actually contains value in its supportedFormats property?
    I'd appreciate any help on this matter.

    I again don't have my code in front of me, but I did take a look at the sample code my code is based on...
    Format format = tracks.getFormat();
    if (tracks[i].isEnabled()) {
    supported = tracks[i].getSupportedFormats();
    Just a shot in the dark, but perhaps getSupportedFormats returns the empty set when the TrackControl object is disabled?
    Try enabling the TrackControl before you try to get its supported formats, and see if that changes the behavior in any sort of meaningful way?

    Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

    haben
    From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
    A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
    Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
    User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
    presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
    What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30)  or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
    a constant frame rate?
    Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • A Problem with Region Format Settings

    Hi!
    I have a peculiar problem with Region Format settings on my iPod touch (Settings > General > International > Region Format). It appears that iPod touch can support more region formats than it is stated on that list. Once I registered my iPod, I selected my location, Lithuania, and it automatically set (I think because of this action, and not another, like my PC settings) Region Format to Lithuanian. Although it is nonexistent on the menu list! Good news!
    However, the problem is that while I explored my iPod I accidentally checked another region, and there is no "cancel" option. So my region switched to another. And now I am not able to switch it back to Lithuanian again because there is no such selection (reset or restore didn't help).
    Has anybody any suggestions how could I return to my preferred region format (Lithuanian)? Thanks!

    thats interesting. I think the ipod took those settings from your computer/mac.
    anyway, shouldn't there be something near you that has the same region format settings? maybe you can just use something that's exactly the same.
    and btw: some of the regions have arrows next to them which brings you to subregions of that region. maybe you should check that out?
    otherwise ... well ... I think only a restore would bring back the original settings.

  • Apple: Why isn't 16:9 a supported format?

    This has been bugging me for a couple of years now. And no - I'm not as stupid as the title suggests.
    But seriously. When I capture a 16:9 anamorphic file using the correct settings, or having edited and exported a 16:9 sequence... Why is everything squished and squashed when playing it in QTplayer or importing it as a clip in FCP? Or for that matter - why does DVDSP or Compressor not recognize the FCP-exported 16:9 sequence as that?
    If this metadata is such a big problem to pass on, I would at least reccomend 16:9 to be the default ratio while they embed a real flag for this! I mean. What format is most used by video-professionals these days? Is it 4:3? Or is it perhaps 16:9?
    I know about both square and rectangular pixels, and I know a whole lot of workarounds to get the result as I want it. But they all require manual punch-in, they are all multiple step-processes that take time, and they all have pitfalls. And seriously - even if I get it - people around me don't... I'm kinda getting tired of telling everybody "You have to do this and this stupid thing..."
    Aren't these things just supposed to "work"?
    So... Why isn't 16:9 a supported format?

    I have to deal with this in my real job and to be honest, it gives me a huge headache; integrating SD, analog and HD material into one show whatever the flavor of the day is - is that video cropped, squished or stretched or letterboxed or pillarboxed....wait, I need that to be stretched from that show and that to be cropped from that show and and and and....
    I can't provide a solution as I don't understand it all myself, however, to answer your query of what aspect ratio is predominantly used it is still 4:3 NTSC here in the U.S. Until all programming is HD and everyone has purchased an ATSC tv, I think we'll be stuck with this issue.

    e.g .mpg and .avi.As far as I understand, most video formats are container formats that might have a number of different encodings. JMF will play some but not others. For example, I have had a number of Kodak cameras which can take MOVs. The first camera made MOVs that were compatible with JMF. The second did not.
    In the case of .avi, it can't show the video but I can hear the audio.
    please help me anyone with the same problem solved or any advice?Can you play the MOV & either of the MPGs available under the [video section|http://pscode.org/media/#video] of the media page at pscode.org? Note that I want two answers to that question - the first a yes/no for the MOV, the second a yes/no for either MPG.
    Those files have been seen to work with JMF.

  • Problems to change format for webcam (linux)

    Hi,
    in this forum i found Ownes JWebCam. The code is really great and it helped a lot. In this code he searchs for all supported formats with the method CaptureDeviceInfo.getFormats(). In the program he uses only the formats he found. I thought this is a good idea and coded it myself for my program. My problem is, that changing or setting the format myself doesn't work. I set the format with FormatControl.setFormat() and this method always return null, only the smallest format i find works.. I thought i made some mistake but i couldn't find one. After changeing Owens code for linux and runing the program, i found out, that the captured video is just scaled up and still uses the low resolution of the camera after changing it to 640x480 and the method setFormat() return null, too. With JMStudio i can use higher resolutions, so it must work with the camera. Has anyone some hints for me?
    thx
    markus

    Hi,
    i found the solution on my own in firm this morning.
    For setting a new Format you first have to find all the supported formats with
    Format[] formats = camInfo.getFormats().
    camInfo is instance of CaptureDeviceInfo. After this i need a MediaLocator for my camera.
    MediaLocator ml = camInfo.getMediaLocator()
    With ml you have to create a DataSource with the Manager.
    DataSource source = Manager.createDataSource(ml);
    The next thing you need is a list of all FormatControls. I think you need this, because you need the correct FormatControl instance for the Format you want to set later.
    FormatControl[] formatControls = ((CaptureDevice)source).getFormatControls();
    Now you should have all you need to set a Format of your choice. Choose a Format out of formats[] you want to set. Save it in some variable. In this example i use the Variable myFormat. Now you have the Format you want to set. In the next step you have to find the compatible FormatControl for your wanted Format. To find it, you have to search the formatControls Array.
    Format finalFormat = null;
    for (int i = 0; i <formatControls.length; i++) {
    if (formatControls[i] == null)
    continue;
    if ((finalFormat = formatControls.setFormat(myFormat)) != null)
    break;
    If formatControls[i].setFormat(myFormat) doesn't return null, you found the campatible formatControl for your Format and set the Format.
    All you have to do now is to connect to the source, create a Player and do whatever you want to do with it.
    Player player = null;
    try {
    source.connect();
    player = Manager.createPlayer(formattedSource);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    I hope this will help anyone. Owens code (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=570463&tstart=50) is really great and helps a lot, thanks for this, but i didn't find out how to change the resolution for the camera. Maybe i was just too stupid to find it :-) With Owens code i could solve all the other problems i had.
    Have fun with this
    Markus

  • Problems reading RAW format after update 6.03

    I have problems reading RAW format images into Iphoto 9.6 after update 6.03 or maybe earlier updates (have not imported for a few months). The images show up like half, black or partly distorted. I use a Canon 5D mk2 camera. The images looks okey when read into a PC so I don´t think it is the camera or cables. It has been working very good before! I use a Powerbook pro 13 late 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.1.

    Try downgrading back to 6.02 by following the directions in this post by léonie:

    [DocumentBodyStart:3bf5afd7-94e9-4fb4-acfa-7aa13198efec]
    Make a backup of your system and try to downgrade the RAW support to version 6.01
    To downgrade the RAW Support to the last version from before the last update try this:
    To reinstall the 'RAW Compatibility Update' it is necessary to uninstall the currently installed raw support. Otherwise the installer will rightfully say, that you already have the latest version installed.
    If your tests are showing that the problem happens also in a different user account, try this:
    The RAW support files are installed in the System Library in the folder "/System/Library/CoreServices" Folder:
    To open this folder, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Click the smiling Finder icon in the Dock to bring the Finder forward.
    Then type the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G  (for "Finder > Go > Go to folder")  and copy and paste "/System/Library/CoreServices" into the text field. Click the "Go" button.
    In the Finder window that will open, delete both the files "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle". You will have to enter your Administrator password. (don't empty the Trash, so you can put the files back, if need be)
    Download the current RAW support update from Apple's Support Site:
    Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1777?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    In the Downloads folder you will find the disk image with the installer. Double click it to open and run and the installer.
    Then restart your Mac.

  • Why is Microsoft Publisher not a supported format for creating pdfs?

    I am a newsletter editor and I have been creating pdfs from Publisher for years. However, today when I went to my Adobe Acrobat X to create a pdf from a MS Publisher file, I discovered that MS Publisher is not on the Files of type list of supported formats. Luckily, there is a toolbar tab in MS Publisher to convert the file to an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file. Why can I get there from MS Publisher and not from Adobe Acrobat X?
    Also, I like to use different fonts in my newsletter, but the conversion process baulks. Is there a list of no-no fonts for conversion?

    The requisite programming / coding to assure PDFMaker can function with the MS Office applications is non-trivial.
    Only MS Word has the "full boat". Historically it was MS that asked Adobe to come up with what is now called "PDFMaker".
    Specifically the request was for MS Word. An overwhelming number of MS clients (enterprise in particular) wanted an easier way to create not only PDF but better, interactive PDF.
    The "success" was announced in a major MS hosted "conclave" back in the day.
    (a good history research project for those who are skeptical)
    Some "outlying" MS applications have never been PDFMaker friendly. MS Publisher and MS Access are two of the more notables.
    As Adobe provides a page layout program of its own (InDesign - and, yes Publisher too is a "page layout" application) I've always found it odd that Adobe's Acrobat team expended resources on MS Publisher.
    I've had MS Publisher with every version of Office I've had. While I do not use it "professionally" (FrameMaker please) I use it enough to know it does not support PDFMaker functionality very well.
    As PDF is an ISO Standard and Microsoft (as well as Adobe) are active participants on the U.S. Committee for PDF-Reference (ISO 32000) the question is better posed to Microsoft's MS Publisher management.
    The questions you need to ask of the MS Publisher development team are:
    "Why are you not providing acceptable support for output of well-formed, ISO 32000 compliant PDF (which by the way would include PDF/UA-1 compliance ablity)?
    The MS Word team is doing it.
    Adobe's InDesign team is doing it.
    So, what is the problem with the MS Publisher team?
    In short the issue rests with the business decisions made by the MS Publisher team's management.
    Again, PDF is an ISO STANDARD not something held captive by Adobe.
    Be well...

  • Final Cut supported formats...

    As I was unable to find a solution to my problem at Final Cut Pro help page , I have decided to post this here .
    I bought my PB with FC Express 2 preinstalled .
    Now , I shoot my "videos" with a Sony Cybershot photo camera . When I copy the footage onto my PB's HDD it comes in .mpg format .
    I can watch that just fine with Quick Time (both video & audio). When I import the footage into FC and place in the trim window or the timeline , it doesn't have any sound anymore . This is quite annoing because the Final Cut help documentation says mpg is a supported format , and there is no bundled software within the Mac OS X to convert the footage into another supported format (like avi or mov) .
    iMovie doesn't even import the files at all , Graphic Converter does open the files but doesn't export the sound .
    I even tried to rip the sound from the footage with QT Pro in order to import it separately onto the audio timeline , but amazingly the option in Quick Time disappears from the export dialog box options ( though it works with divx and xvid ) .
    I'm out of ideas , and I really need to make this work .
    And I'm not gonna go back to Windows just for that .
    Sorry if this is not the place to post this but I'm a bit desperate as I have some deadlines for some projects .
    Thanx in advance for any sugestions .

  • Trying to embed a video file in HTML5: ERROR=No video with supported format and MIME type found?

    Hello all!
    I am desparate for a solution. I am testing my site on Firefox and Explorer and still no sign of a functional video yet.
    Firefox: I get the error: No video with supported format and MIME type found.
    Explorer: I just get a distorted layout.
    Here is the code I am working on:
    <table id="Table_01" width="480" height="801" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
        <tr>
            <td colspan="6">

        </tr>
        <tr>

                 </video>
    Please tell me that there is something missing in the code. I have spent a lot of time uninstalling-updating Firefox plugins, added MIME types in the Internet Information Manager (I'm on Windows 7)
    and  seriuously hit a dead end with this!
    Any advice would be muchly appreciated!!!
    Thanks
    ~LA

    As Jon said, you must declare the page as HTML5.
    And your server may not be set up to deliver video as a binary file if it is an .OGG file. I have not seen this problem with .MP4 or .M4V in the past, but every server is a little different.
    To add a MIME type, you need to change your .htaccess file on an Apache server thusly:
    AddType audio/ogg .oga
    AddType video/ogg .ogv
    AddType application/ogg .ogg
    AddHandler application-ogg .ogg .ogv .oga
    Additionally, MIME types can usually be changed on a server's Control Panel. One can also ask one's hosting provider to do this as well.
    Firefox makes it necessary to use OGG files. Webkit-based browsers will deal with .M4V or .MP4 and I understand Internet Exploder will work with the latter two as well.

  • Error while opening pdf in reader in windows 8:Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format

    I have a problem with a pdf file which does not open with reader in windows 8 but it opens properly with adobe pdf reader. All other pdf can be opened in reader.But when i open a pdf(see this link for pdf for which i got error http://incometaxsoft.com/temp/Form.pdf)
    it gives error as "Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format".
    The same file opens properly in adobe pdf reader.You can check the pdf file which i have mentioned in the link above.But the reader which comes with windows 8 can open some other pdf in the same PC.What may be the error causing this??

    This has turned out to be an enormous issue for me as I sell PDF files as ebooks. I have done a fair amount of investigating this for my system.
    My files have to be compatible not just across readers but across operating systems.
    To date, I have over 200 PDFs that have functioned flawlessly across Mac, PC (Windows 7 and below), Android, iPhone/iPad, Linux.
    I personally test my PDFs using a variety of readers and PDF editors including
    PDF XChange (my favorite)
    Foxit (runner up for me and I recommend for most people)
    Adobe (the bloated monster)
    Nitro 9 (great for moving graphical elements around)
    ABBYY
    And the Nuance PDF Create toolsets
    Those are off the top of my head. There are a bunch on Android that I test with too.
    I am running the Windows 10 Pro Tech Preview and I have this same problem so I know it isn't fixed yet in any kind of pre-release way (-sigh-)
    Here is what I've learned for my situation
    The PDFs I created using NUANCE'S PDF CREATE PROFESSIONAL VERSION 8
    all fail using the built-in Windows 8/10 PDF reader.
    When I look at the PDF properties for these Nuance created files, the underlying engine used to write them is called "ImageToPDF". Using ABBYY it indicates their own engine as does everyone else that I've tried. It is easy for you to check to see
    what created your PDF by doing a "Control D" (look at the document properties). Perhaps there's a common engine causing issues.
    If I use the exact same source files to create a PDF using any of my other tools I have no issues. I checked the PDF versions made by the tools and they are all set to 1.5.
    A customer mentioned being able to convert them in a way they worked by saving them without having to do any kind of extraction, but I have not been able to duplicate that. Perhaps he did a "print" which seems like it could work.
    In summary, the workaround everyone is talking about, using an alternate reader, of course works. But not everyone wants to change.
     The culprit I have found is my Nuance PDF Creation tools that are using the ImageToPDF engine.
    I hope it gets FIXED as I really don't want to have to regenerate all of my PDF files.
