Problem Installing Office 2011

I'm having a problem installing Office 2011 on a 11" MacBook Air running OS 10.7.2. I've tried installing from a remote disk with the Office CD and installing a trial version downloaded from the Office website but neither has worked.
Everything seems to install correctly, but when you try to click on any icon to start up, the icon bounces once or twice, then nothing else happens.
Any ideas?

See if anyone here can help you: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support

  • Installing Office 2011-Says software for installation not available

I've seen this same issue posted, but never found a resolution to the problem.   Office 2011 14.3.9 will not install on Mac Air that is running OS X Version 10.8.5.   Message says that the software needed for installation is not available on my computer.

What version of Office do you now have? You must have 14.3.8 to install 14.3.9. And 14.3.8 requires 14.3.7, etc.

  • Unable to install Office 2011 on newly installed HD

I had to replace a dead hard drive on my old 2007 iMac. Now I am unable to install Office 2011 on an iMac that had this version of office before the old HD died. I know there are restrictions on the number of installations. Must I purchase Office 2011 again or is there another legal option?

How is the program failing to install? You should be able to install the program no matter what, but when you run it you should get an activation window. At this point you'd enter your serial number ... and depending on how Microsoft is creating its special ID code for each computer, the new drive may or may not make the activation computer think you are activating a different computer.
If the problem is that you cannot even install the program, you should be able to download it from Microsoft's website and use your serial number to reactivate. If the activation fails you can call Microsoft and explain the situation. This is something I've done frequently since I also work with Windows. In most cases a quick explanation of the circumstances resolves the issue.

  • Installed Office 2011, now Times New Roman is whacked in Pages '09

I finally had to cave in and install Office 2011 to edit a complex docx that was sent to me. But now all the Times New Roman font in all of my Pages documents have morphed into a very ugly spaced-out mess. Is there any way to return my files to their previous format?

thanks for the tip. I seem to have fixed the problem in the documents, but it was not what you thought. There was only 1 Times New Roman in the font book. I right-clicked on it and now all my text is OK (I have no idea what I did, except the font list flashed to Calibri, what Word 2011 is using as a default). BUT, both before and after this fix, the listing for Times New Roman in the font book appears as a bunch of pictographs of symbol keys. My main problem is solved (for now...), but I am not declaring the question answered until the font list weirdness is gone.

  • I installed Office 2011 on my new I-mac.  Excell will not open???

I installed Office 2011 on my new Mac,  Why will Excel not open?

First restart the Mac, then try to start Excel again, if it fails go to Mactopia Downloads for Office 2011, download all updates for Office 2011, (there are 3) apply the in order (14.02 is first, 14.13 last) follow the instructions, you may have to restart your computer more than once.
Oh, and if it does start when you try it is still important to do the updates.

I am not able to close Microsoft Database Daemon or SyncServicesAgent applications to install Office 2011 14.4.1 update.  Could you assist me?  Thanks in advance

The updater should close those processes for you - it didn't used to do so but should now.
If it won't quit the processes for you, open Activity Monitor (Applications>Library folder), search for the processes and quit them. You should be able to install the update now.
I just find it odd that the updater isn't quitting the processes on its own..

  • I can't install Office 2011 on my retina MBP. Any ideas?

I can't install Office 2011 on my retina MBP. Any ideas?

It's a Retina MBP that has no aftermarket software on it. I'm trying to install Office 2011 from the install DVD. The message (unhelpfully), at what one hopes is the end of the install says that there has been an error and the install has failed. I have disabled the privacy setting to allow the MBP to accept installs from "anywhere" to no avail.
The disc goes in fine and the process starts but ends with a install failed message.

  • TS2301 Problems with installing Office 2011. Can anyone help?

I have cleaned up my Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4 - checked firewall and cookies, empied the trash, tried to download Office 2011 for Mac  various times but I always get the error unknown msg. Anyone can help?

When do you get this error?
Microsoft has a great forum for working with their products for Mac. That might be a better place to ask.
    Best of luck.

  • Problems with Office 2011 for mac after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Office 2011 for mac worked fine with Lion on my MacBook Air.  I had been having some problems with my computer freezing and crashing, so the folks at the Genius Bar wiped my computer clean and installed Mountain Lion for me.
I have full backups (Time Machine) from before the wipe on my external hard drive, but I was told not to restore from the backup, that I should drag and drop files instead.  I was also told to re-install any program for which I had the disk.  I reinstalled Office 2011 via the disk.
    Two major problems followed:
    1.     I lost all my old emails (I use Mail).  Even rebuilding the library or trying to restore them from Time Machine don't get them back.
    2.     Word and Excel don't seem to recognize me anymore.  I can pull up and modify an old document or workbook, but I cannot "save" my changes.  I have to hit "save as." That's a pain, but there's a worse problem.
I have no trouble saving these "save as" versions to my desktop or to my Documents file.  But I cannot save them anywhere else — even to the folder where I found the original document.  I get a message that I don't have the necessary permissions to access or modify the folders. I'm asked to authenticate, and I do, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
I tried Get Info on the workbooks and documents, and I'm clearly granted Read and Write permission.
I've done a permissions repair via Disk Utility.  There were some things to repair, but it didn't solve my problem.
I know I can move all documents to an external hard drive and then recreate all the folders, saving all the documents and workbooks "as" but it seems a huge amount of work.  Can anybody suggest an easier route or how to get my email history?

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  'resetpassword' (without the 's) and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • Just installed Office 2011 on my MacBook Pro Retina and now Safari does not work

Just installed Micro Office 2011 on my 13" MacBook Retina and now Safari is not working correctly. Pages load very slowly or not at all.
    Any idea of what's wrong?
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • I can't install Office 2011 Mac

Good afternook to ebveryone, I've a question for you.
Some times ago I've bougt a version of Office 2011 for Mac, I've installed it and its updates without any kind of problems.
Recently I resored my macbook pro installing, fom zero, a new copy of OSX Mountain Lion. I've installed BootCamp for Windows 7.
Since I've done this I can't install any update of Office 2011 because my version of OSX is not recognised (computer says that is needed an upper versionof OSX, upper that 10.4.....).
I've Mac OSX 10.8.2 and so I don't understand what is wrong.
    Have you got any ideas?
    Thanks a lot.

  • New iMac- installed Office 2011, default font troubles

A friend just purchased a 25" iMac. All is well, until I install MS Office 2011. I haven't seen this, but she reports font problems (foreign language defaults or file import gibberish, I don't now). Is this a common complaint. The OS is Mavericks.

The font conflicts came from the installation of Office 2011. It installs a handful of old, OS 9 style TrueType fonts that conflict with the newer OpenType fonts installed by OS X. While you already did use Font Book to resolve the conflicts (it turned one or the other off), you should remove the offending older fonts from the drive.
Remove the following Mac legacy TrueType suitcase fonts from the /Library/Fonts/Microsoft/ folder:
    Andale Mono
    Arial Black
    Arial Narrow
    Arial Rounded Bold
    Comic Sans MS
    Georgia
    Impact
    Tahoma
    Trebuchet MS
Note that the older fonts do not have a file extension, such as .ttf . Font Book doesn't like it when you manually remove fonts from the drive. So after getting rid of the old fonts, do the following to reset Font Book's database.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point. Yosemite is a bit different. Whether it's a Safe Mode boot or a normal one, you get the same progress bar. It just takes longer to get to the desktop in Safe Mode. So hold the Shift key until you get to the desktop.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
All in all, since the conflicts have already been resolved, you don't have to do any of this. But Font Book doesn't tell you which version of a conflicting font it disabled. For all the user knows, the much older fonts could be the active ones, and many newer apps don't work well with non Unicode fonts.
