Problem installing Visual Studio 2012 Professional, "security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object"

I'm trying to install Visual Studio 2012 Professional edition on my work laptop, Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1. I have limited admin rights and should be able to install
programs on this laptop but when I try to install VS 2012, I get the following error message:
"This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object."
Any idea why this is happening?

Hi,
You must have administrator credentials to install Visual Studio. However, you do not have to have these credentials to use Visual Studio after it is installed.
More information you can refer to:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e2h7fzkw(v=vs.110).aspx
Please install the Visual Studio 2012 as the administrator.
Best regards,

  • Installing Visual Studio 2012 update 4 on Windows 10 preview

    Hi all,
I successfully installed visual studio 2012 on Windows 10 preview but when I try to install update 4 I get an error about compatibility:
I tried downloading the update with "VS2012.4 /Layout"
but I could not find any way to control the compatibility setting...
    any advise?
    Smadar

What's the name of the file you're using to install Visual Studio?
It seems there may be a bug in Windows 8.1 (and hence also Windows 10) where re-naming the EXE file fixes the problem.  More information is available
here, however the applicable text is below:
"Thank you for taking the time to submit this issue to Connect. This is a known issue with Windows 8.1 RTM and it will be addressed in a future update of Windows 8.1. In the meantime,
you can typically rename the EXE to get it to work correctly.
    Examples:
Visual Studio Professional 2012 installer should be renamed to vs_professional.exe
    Premium -> vs_premium.exe
    Ultimate -> vs_ultimate.exe
Please let me know if this resolves your issue."
    Hope that helps!

Hello. I have been attempting to install update 3 for Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate on Windows 7.
    I get this error:
"Setup detected an issue during the operation. Please click below to check for a solution and help us to improve the setup experience."
There isn't an option other than "close program" and some text:
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I can't post links or pictures. Thank you.

  • Problem installing Visual Studio 2010

    Hi,
I am trying to install VS2010 on a Windows 7 running on a bootcamp partition of my Mac Book Air.
When I insert the DVD on the drive the splash screen shows "Visual Studio 2008 "... It should be 2010.
If I continue the installation it stops in the middle because of a missing file named DW20.EXE, but these file is there.
I have tested the same DVD in a regular PC and the installation went correctly, it installs VS 2010.
    Thanks

You might try asking about this on a Windows 7 or Visual Studio forum as the issue appears to have nothing to do with Apple products.

  • In visual studio 2012 coded Ui test is not entering the URL

    Hi,
When i try to run the recorded script it is opening the new tab but it is not entering the new URL in to tab. It is showing test has failed due to some stack trace error. I am new to coded UI test am learning it. Is it timing error i need to place some sleep
    time in between them?
    Thanks
    Prasanth
    Prasanth

    Hi Prasanth,
Generally, the coded UI test is used to verify that the whole application, including its user interface, is functioning correctly. Coded UI Tests are particularly useful where there is validation or other logic in the user interface, for example in a web
page. They are also frequently used to automate an existing manual test.
In other words, we can use coded UI test to verify the UI control instead of verifying the URL.
    For more information:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd286726(v=vs.110).aspx
However, if you want to record script it is opening the new tab and then entering the new URL in to tab, I suggest you can use the Web Performance test to record and verify the request works correctly.

  • Problems adding a custom SSRS (PolygonsCRI demo project) control to Visual Studio 2012 toolbox

I've been trying to create a custom control in SSRS using the PolygonsCRI example.  I've finally got the solution to compile in Dot Net 4.5 under Visual Studio 2012 targeting x86 architecture.  (x86 seems to be the only way to compile without complaints
about architecture mismatch involving some of the key reporting DLLs.)  I'm running VS2012 Premium, version 11.0.61030.00 Update 4.
I still can't use it in the Polygons demo reporting project.
I can add the DLL to the toolbox but all I get is a red rectangle and the message 'The custom report item type PolygonsDesigner is not installed'.
Suggestions?  I'm out of ideas at this point.

    Hello,
You have "add DLL to Toolbox"?
See Jazz Up Your Data Using Custom Report Items In SQL Server Reporting Services => Deploying CRI: You have to Register you CRI in "RSReportDesigner.config" file.

    Hi
I had same issue. Below is the solution
    Installing
"Visual Studio 2012 Update 3" usually solves this problem. (You can download it through microsoft's official site at

  • Can't connect to VPN anymore after installation of visual studio 2012

I found that a similar question was  asked, albeit for the previous version of Windows and visual studio
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/335e9de5-f183-4d03-a441-95bc151dc7d0
it took me few days to resolve an issue, so decided to share here.
as a headline goes the story was: I installed Visual Studio 2012 on Windows 8 and after installation  an L2TP vpn connection gave error 789
the solution I found with my internet provider was  to change in registry
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rasman\Parameters]
    "ProhibitIpSec"=dword:00000001
it looks though that this issue should be fixed, while my solution works it is hardly  useful hint for most
affected ( if only they find a solution by search ).

    Hi,
Thanks for sharing. We really appreciate your time and efforts. Hope your experience will help other community members facing similar problems.

  • Silverlight 5 and WCF Ria Services Link Visual Studio 2012

Hi, I have a Visual Studio 2010 Project, I installed Visual Studio 2012 and Opened the Project with VS 2012. I can run the Project without issues but at design time the Web Project is no recognized as a valid reference.
My Silverlight application has a WCF RIA Services link to this Project. If I switch to Visual Studio 2010 I have not design time errors.
Why in Visual Studio 2012 my Silverlight 5 Project shows a message indicating the Web Project namespace does not exists?
Obiously the reference does not exists because is a WCF RIA Services link and VS Should infer the namespace.
I've notice that the generated code is being created with the right namespace, it's just that Visual Studio 2012 is not recognizing the classes in the generated code.
    Help please.

    Hi,
You need add web service again for VS-2012. You can see the step by step process

  • Cannot install Visual Studio Community 2013 - Error message "Visal Studio 2013 Ultimate is installed..."

    Hello,
I am trying to install Visual Studio Community 2013 in my machine but when I start the setup process I get the followingerror message:
    Setup Blocked
Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 is currently installed on this machine. Please uninstall Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 and retry.
The problem is that I used to have VS Ultimate 2013 (Preview Edition, I think) installed on my machine but I've uninstalled it some time ago. It looks like something was left over in process.
What I've tried to do was to install VS Ultimate 2013 again, perform a repair operation and then uninstall it again. This uninstall process is reported to be successful. However, it did not solve my problem: VS Community 2013 installation still fails.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?
    Thank you,
    João Pedro

"I used to have VS Ultimate 2013 (Preview Edition, I think) installed "
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this sort of situation is exactly why potential users of pre-release software are warned NOT to install test software on production systems. While a new software version is in development, one of the LAST things to
be finalized is the uninstaller. So, uninstalling a test edition often leaves behind unwanted artifacts.
In your situation, I'd do a clean install of my OS, then install VS.
