Problem reconnecting after switching computers

I started a project in FCE on my office IMac, by importing clips directly from my Canon Vixia. I brought the project home on an external drive, along with the Canon Vixia which contains all the original clips. However, when everything is connected in exactly the same configuration (my home computer is identical to my office computer), and I open the FCE document it doesn't allow me to reconnect my "offline" files even though they are somewhere in the connected camcorder.
Anyone have a solution?
Thanks!

If you mean that you cannot reconnect to clips that are on your external hard drive, it's likely a permissions problem. In the Finder, select your external drive. Then do GetInfo (File > Get Info or Command-I ). In the window that opens, look under Ownership & Permissions. There is a checkbox called "Ignore ownership on this volume". CHECK the box. Then try reconnecting your media.
If you mean that you are opening your FCE project file at home and trying to pick up where you left off at the office by reconnecting your camcorder as if it were a hard drive containing your media, it doesn't work that way. You would have to Recapture Project, not reconnect media.
If you are going to move the project back & forth between two computers, you need to use your _external hard drive_ as your _scratch disk location_ on BOTH computers. That means the external drive will contain all your captured clips, render files, etc. and you will also need to save your FCE project file to the external drive.

  • Problems reconnecting after DB failure

I've identified a problem in one of my applications where calls to DriverManager.getDriver() continue to fail after the database machine goes down and then comes back online. It appears from testing that if the machine itself does not go down, but instead just the database management software, my app will reconnect when the db comes back up. But if the whole machine goes down - i.e. it drops out of the network - then when it comes back online, DriverManager.getDriver() continues to fail.
Any ideas what causes this or how to fix it? Many thanks!

    straight from my log file:

  • Cannot download a previously purchased app after switching computers

I switched from a Macbook Pro to an iMac.  Afterwards, I was unable to open a particular app. iTunes App Store does not give me a download icon for this app when I click the Purchased link and search for the app.
When I search for my computer, the .ipa file cannot be found.

If you have the app listed (even though you might not have the actual .ipa file on that computer) in the Apps part of our Mac's iTunes library then it won't show in the Purchased link for redownloading. Try deleting it from your library and then see if it shows as being redownloadable via the Purchased link under Quick Links.

  • Codec Problem when switching computers

I am having a problem, where I copy my .fcp and all the videos that are with it, to another computer.
I have a macbook with leopard.
the other computer is a 2ghz core duo imac (the white ones)which has tiger
It says it cant find the codec.
Also, sometimes thef iles arent connected, when i try and reconnect them, it says the times don't match up. Im literally using the same files, nothing is different.
Any help on what to do to switch computers to work on things would be very helpful

DX50 is a DivX format and is not a natively supported codec. the trouble is that the Mac where it plays properly has had a third party codec installed which enables that file type, whereas the other one hasn't
Download and install Perian form http://www.perian.org then see if it doesn't automaigaclly start working

  • Problem reading external drive after switching enclosures

My Time Machine backup was on a 2 TB WD My Essential external drive.  I run a 2008 iMac that doesn't support USB3 speeds so I removed the drive from the WD enclosure and put it in a Rocstor enclosure that uses Firewire 800.  After switching enclosures, my iMac wouldn't read the drive without formatting it.  Anyone know why that is?  Does it have something to do with the firmware on the HD itself?  It was no big deal as I was going to format and partition the drive anyway.  I would just like to know why going from USB to Firewire would cause it to do that.  BTW, after reformating the drive, it appears to be working just fine as it did before.

No it is not a problem with the firmware on the drive. It has to do with the Firewire system on the Mac or any computer. I have the same thing happen when I have a drive that was using USB and put that drive in a FW adapter. Once in the FW adapter OS X wants to format it, actually initialize it. Once reconnected by USB again the drive works fine. You do know that you have voided the WD warranty on that unit by taking the drive out.

  • Virtual console problem after switching runlevels

After switching into runlevel 5, the cursor on all virtual consoles (1-5) is stuck at the top left of the screen, and screen scrolling is disabled.
If I boot with runlevel 3, everything works fine, until I manually change into runlevel 5.
I'm not sure if this is related to the latest Xorg upgrade, but things used to work well until not long ago.

  • I915 power consumption issue after switch to systemd?

After switching to systemd I noticed a massive increase of power consumption on my Thinkpad X220 (i5 Sandy Bridge).
The strange thing is, that after some reboots it randomly seems to catch the i915 power saving mode and the consumption gets from ~24W to ~7W at idle. But only after several reboots.
Adding the good old i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 to the boot parameters doesn't make any differences. But looking at the powertop detail outputs it seems to be a i915 issue.
Using the latest linux kernel from core (3.6.4) and latest intel drivers (2.20.12).

I started to get suspicious because I have only ever had the issue in my office. Last week, when I encrypted my drive, my machine wrote to disk for more than 14 hours solid. I then did all the set up and all the restoring from backup etc. with no issue whatsoever. Lenovo ran the thing for 48 hours straight with no problem. But once in my office...
So I asked the local IT people if they could think of anything other than overheating and explained the issue. They took my laptop yesterday , booted it from a hardware testing CD and ran it for a couple of hours sitting on top of a hot computer in the server room which is definitely hot. (It has a whole bunch of computers, I guess.) No issue. They then ran stress tests for a while in the same place. No problem. Highest recorded temp: 65C.
The head of IT then took my power adapter to a more general IT service to be tested and inspected. They looked at it, they opened the plug to check the fuse, they tested it. No problem. Of course, the guy also explained why he was asking and the other IT person said, "Oh, is that on level 1?" "Yes..." So apparently there was another machine (a Mac), I think, doing just the same thing in an office in my part of the building. Testing showed that the power spikes and when the power spikes, the laptop shut down as a safety measure. Solution: they installed a UPS for that one laptop. They didn't tell anybody else, including the local IT people.
What the local IT people were going to do was to install equipment to monitor the power in my office and see if anything weird was causing my laptop to react. However, that was when this was an extremely-unlikely-but-we-are-getting-desperate-for-theories scenario. Clearly, that theory no longer seems wildly implausible at all. So the current hypothesis is that it is most likely that my machine is also reacting to the spikes in power by shutting itself off. (I'm not sure why it should have just started doing this but who knows what the state of the electricals is and how that might vary?)
I have been told that a surge protector will do no good. (They've given me one anyway but apparently it will not deal with spikes in phase 3 power or something - I didn't understand this bit but the head IT person said he didn't understand it either but the electricals IT person showed him with graphs on the whiteboard. So it must be true.)
The current plan is to try to get the UPS from central IT which was provided for the other laptop since that person's discipline has since moved to another floor of the building so the UPS probably went back to central IT. They are going to ask during a meeting tomorrow about this possibility. Otherwise, they are planning to order a UPS for me on Monday.
I'm somewhat surprised that the abrupt shutdowns haven't screwed my data. I've lost work but not seen fs corruption. I didn't take my laptop today. I'll need it next week but I do not plan to plug it in in my office until I have a UPS.
I'm pretty annoyed, to be honest. I've wasted hours on this and got incredibly stressed about it. The IT people have also wasted a (smaller) amount of time. I hoped to have a new draft of an article I'm working on written by the end of reading week but that didn't happen due to all of this. And they *knew*. It would be different if this was an unknown problem just discovered - of course, one could understand that. But there's a known problem which can cause this type of problem and presumably could well damage equipment without these sorts of safety shutdown features and they don't tell anybody.
And, no, I doubt very much indeed that a damaged personal machine would be considered the institution's liability. (Maybe if it was a student's machine and the student was required to use it or something but even then...)
I can't believe it does much good to their equipment either.
The local IT people did know there was an issue with some burnt out devices but that was about eight years ago and only got mentioned as a outside possibility when other diagnostics turned up no result.
What gets me is that the proposed solution will only solve the issue for me - not for anybody else in my part of the building on level 1.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Bluetooth mouse won't reconnect when switched on

I have a 2.4GHz Mac Min (last model before being replaced by the model without DVD drive) and a Mac USB keyboard.  I wanted to use a Bluetooth mouse as I don't like the trailing lead with a USB mouse, but I wanted a conventional three button type mouse as I need that for my RISC OS emulator program, so I bought a Logitech V470 Bluetooth mouse.  I set it up in Bluetooth preferences with no problem and set it as a favourite.  It then worked very well and was comfortable, smooth and accurate.  The problem comes after I have turned it off, either when I am not going to be using the computer for a period of time, or at night, obviously to save batteries.  When I switch the mouse back on, the computer and mouse simply will not reconnect.  The only way I can get the mouse to reconnect is to plug in a USB mouse, delete the original device pairing, and set-up a new device again; or power the computer off and restart it.  Sometimes restarting the computer doesn't work as a dialogue box will open over the password screen saying it can't find any mouse, then it finds it and shows the correct Mac Address of the mouse but even clicking any of the buttons on the mouse it still won't actually control the mouse pointer!
I have another Bluetooth mouse, a Microsoft 5000, which I use with my MacBook Pro so I tried that with the Mac Mini and once paired it works fine, *including* after being turned off, reconnecting within a second of being turned back on.  So I asumed it was something to do with the Logitech mouse rather than the Mac Mini, and contacted Logitech.  As it was a new mouse they suggested it was faulty and I have been sent a new one.  However this one is the same and in one respect actually worse.  Once paired it works fine just like the original, but once it has been switched off, again it will not reconnect when switch on.  But with this one, even closing down the computer and restarting it won't connect the mouse.  The only way with this one is to delete the pairing and set-up a new pairing again.  That means whenever the computer or mouse are turned off, you have to connect a USB mouse so that you can get back in, delete the pairing and set-up a new pairing again, which is unacceptable.
However, if I boot the Mac Mini into Windows XP using bootcamp the Logitech mouse works as you would expect in all ways *including* reconnecting immediately after being turned on, if it has been turned off.  Also I tried this mouse with a 2006 iBook G4 1.42GHz OS X 10.4.11 and again it functions correctly including reconnecting immediately it is switched back on.  So these last two tests appear to show a fault with the Bluetooth firmware in Mac OS X on the new Mac Mini not a fault with the Logitech mice.  After all, it is using the same Bluetooth and aerial whether in Mac OS X or Windows but it will only reconnect when in Windows.  As a final test I set the MacBook Pro up for Windows 7 using bootcamp and again the mouse will not reconnect in Mac OS X on the MacBook Pro but it reconnects fine in Windows 7 on the same hardware.
Is there an answer to this problem?  Do you agree it is a firmware/software fault?  Does Apple know about it and are they going to do anything to correct the problem?  Thanks.  Roy

Yes, I do notice that connection can be lost sometimes and regaining it can be difficult. I have even had to go to the point of finding an old USB mouse to get it going again. I usually try turning off the switch on the mouse and then back on. Then I click it about 5 times or so, usually it picks it up again. Same thing with keyboard. Not sure if that helps at all. Good luck.

  • Airport does not reconnect after standby...

Is anyone having issues w/ wireless not reconnecting after standby? In order to resolve the problem, I have to turn airport off then back on. Most of the time I can get back on using on/off method, but seldomly I have to reboot. This is my config:
SSID is not broadcasted, using capital letters and numbers for SSID Name.
WPA TKIP set for router encryption. WPA Personal selected on Airport.
I don't seem to have this problem on my Macbook running Leopard, so I'm pretty sure it's hardware/driver related to my Macbook Pro. I have to keep tabs on this, but I almost think this problem does not appear when a network SSID is broadcasted and/or unecrypted. It could be my imagination but not sure.
Any ideas or same issues out there?

I always have the same problem; I assume it has something to do with the fact that I regularly switch my cable modem to "standby" when done surfing the internet. Seemingly Airport loses the signal (or whatever) because the modem isn't feeding a signal being in standby mode? When I turn the modem back on, I have to turn Airport back on as well. So far, I've just felt it to be a small inconvenience.

    Hello Michael,
The problem here is because we cannot succesfully establish a DTLS tunnel. This could happen because:
    - DTLS is blocked somewhere in the path
    - A non-default DTLS port is being used
If DTLS is blocked in the middle the issue is because as of ASA Release 9.x and AnyConnect Release 3.x, an optimization has been introduced in the form of distinct Maximum Transition Units (MTUs) that are negotiated for TLS/DTLS between the client/ASA. Previously, the client derived a rough estimate MTU which covered both TLS/DTLS and was obviously less than optimal. Now, the ASA computes the encapsulation overhead for both TLS/DTLS and derives the MTU values accordingly.
As long as DTLS is enabled, the client applies the DTLS MTU (in this case 1418) on the VPN adapter (which is enabled before the DTLS tunnel is established and is needed for routes/filters enforcement), to ensure optimum performance. If the DTLS tunnel cannot be established or it is dropped at some point, the client fails over to TLS and adjusts the MTU on the virtual adapter (VA) to the TLS MTU value (this requires a session level reconnect).
In order to eliminate this visible transition of DTLS > TLS,  you can configure a separate tunnel group for TLS only access for users that have trouble with the establishment of the DTLS tunnel (such as due to firewall restrictions).
    1. The best option is to set the AnyConnect MTU value to be lower than the TLS MTU, which is then negotiated.
    group-policy ac_users_group attributes
    webvpn
      anyconnect mtu 1300
This makes TLS and DTLS MTU values equal. Reconnections are not seen in this case.
    2. The second option is to allow fragmentation.
    group-policy ac_users_group attributes
    webvpn
      anyconnect ssl df-bit-ignore enable
With fragmentation, large packets (whose size exceeds the MTU value) can be fragmented and sent through the TLS tunnel.
    3. The third option is to set the Maximum Segment Size (MSS) to 1460 as follows:
    sysopt conn tcpmss 1460
In this case, the TLS MTU will be 1427 (RC4/SHA1) which is larger than the DTLS MTU 1418 (AES/SHA1/LZS). This should resolve the issue with TCP from the ASA to the AnyConnect client (thanks to MSS), but large UDP traffic from the ASA to the AnyConnect client might suffer from this as it will be dropped by the AnyConnect client due to the lower AnyConnect client MTU 1418. If sysopt conn tcpmss is modified, it might affect other features such as LAN-to-LAN (L2L) IPSec VPN tunnels.
If DTLS is not blocked in the middle another potential cause for the DTLS failure that DTLS is configured on a non-default port after the WebVPN is enabled (for example, when the webvpn enable outside command is entered). This is due to Cisco bug ID CSCuh61321 and has been seen in Release 9.x where the ASA pushes the non-default port to the client, but continues to listen to the default port. Consequently, the DTLS is not built and AnyConnect reconnects.
The workaround for this problem is:
    Disable the WebVPN.
    Enter the DTLS port.
    Enable the WebVPN.

ios 6, my wifi doesnt work
even after switching wifi on and off
as well as removing saved wifi spots
and tried switching from manual to auto
it works intermittently after these changes are made, but still shuts off.
i have ios 6 on both the iPhone 4 & the Iphone 5.
my router at home is D-Link router
    please help!

You have the same problem in two mobiles? Uou....
I have had used D Link router before, and I faced problems to connect my computer.
Now I bought Netgear, and it shows strongly better than the f.... D Link...
    Try:
    Settings>>WiFi, and then turn off Ask for Conection;
    Or:
    Settings>>Privacity, be sure the Location Service is turn on;
    Or:
In Settings>>General>>Reset, select "Reset all Adjusts". (Sorry, but it will change some personal adjustments, but will not delete anything at all)

  • WiFi must manually reconnect after sleep (since updating to 10.9.4)

My MacBook Air (Mid 2011) just updated to 10.9.4 and now the WiFi doesn't reconnect to my home network when I resume from sleep (open the lid). I need to click the WiFi icon and re-choose the home network each time.
This is new since I updated. Ironically, when I read the update notes, it was supposedly to fix this type of issue from occurring in the first place, and yet I never had the problem until after I updated.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
