Problem running iTunes for two users on same computer, one works fine, the other keeps locking up and shutting down iTunes

I have two users on one computer.  I have iTunes set up for both users.  For one user (mine) iTunes works just fine.  For the other user (my wife), Itunes opens up but then locks up and shuts off.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Two users on one computer how to share a program and it's data

As Kappy said, each of you should have your own account. By default all programs are installed in the Applications folder so all users on the computer will be able to use the software. With a few restrictions data you want to share between two users can be placed inside the Shared folder - look inside the Users folder for it. Data that gets placed in the Shared folder will retain the owner/creator's rights so if you want other user(s) to be able to do more than open the document you'll need to change the permissions of the file to include that user.

It should be in the Users/ Shared folder.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Note the option to check and repair Library Permissions

When synchronizing my iphone4 on the computer it errors out when optimizing the photos and shuts down iTunes.  Any idea what to do to get the synch working?

OKay, here is the deal. You cannot change the location of encrypted files nor can you share them with other machines. There is no file server for iTunes so even if you export the movie index from iTunes to an external volume, each time you reboot your computer itunes has to reindex the external drive every time you want to access the files. The second you run your mobile computer without the external drive or try to access the HD movies from another device or another user on the same network, the indexing gets out of synch. The entire process is self defeating regardless. The HD movies are encapsulized by apple to stream to your devices via iCloud and NOT via Cloud. Only your TV can play 1080p. That single file you download from iTunes has mutiple versions of the same video in the capsul, one version for each type of apple device. There are no 1080p apple devices except for the Apple TV. When you buy a movie you are buying a license and not the movie. It's going to get worse with all the new copywrite laws. Already you cant share any apple devices with other itunes accounts. Your airport express just stopped streaming music to all users on the local home sharing Cloud. Only the one user for each device and soon only airplay speakers connected directly to the device. No more passthru via your TV and no more file sharing with other accounts on the same wi-fi. All the ISPs are doing the same thing. And soon everybody will be buying their phones and TV's and iPads from the cabble guy.
Apple has done a poor job of educating the consumer as to the difference between the Cloud and iCloud. They are not the same at all.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

I am using Mail 5.3 with two separate gmail addresses.
One is personal the other is business.
When I send emails from the BUSINESS address, any auto-replies/out of office notices I get come to my PERSONAL INBOX.
I imagine that this is a setting? Please help!

Edit the SMTP server list. Add a new one for the business account. Put the correct password and information for it. Give it a description so you will know which server is which. Mke sure the correct server is highlighted in the account selected and check the box to use only that server for that account. Do that for the other account also.

  • Why has my 8x8 desktop app on my Macbook Pro running OS X Yosimite 10.10.1 suddenly stopped working while the app on my iPhone and the online service both work fine?

Why has my 8x8 desktop app on my Macbook Pro running OS X Yosimite 10.10.1 suddenly stopped working while the app on my iPhone and the online service both work fine? Is this because of some recent software update by Apple? 8x8 support acknowledges issues with no current work-arounds? The 8x8 desktop app worked until early December, then quit. I've deleted and re-downloaded the app, but no difference.

    The solution is :
    1. Delete iPhone configuration utility. Just drop it to the trash
    2. Run
    sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.*
    rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.plist*
    3. Delete the whole folder: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
    4. Reinstall iTunes (just over the previous one)
    5. Restart

  • Sharing files for different users on same computer without duplicating

Newbie here, I got my 1st mac (in ten years) last week and have been really enjoying it. I set up 3 user's accounts and wanted to share files such as iphoto and itune for all users. So I put my pictures in the shared folder, however, when I opened iphoto in each user's account, I had to import all the photos for every user, which resulted in duplicated files on each user's folders. I have tens of thousands of photos and don't want redundant files eat up my hard drive space. For this reason I'm holding off sharing my itune files.
I'm wondering if there's a way to allow access for different users without making duplicates.

    Preferably only admin can edit/import
Well this makes things very easy and is the way that iPhoto is intended to share. In your Admin account, go to iPhoto -> Preferences -> Sharing and enable Sharing. Note that you can share an entire library or just individual albums. Leave iPhoto running and use Fast-User Switching to move to the other Account(s). In Launch iPhoto and go to Preferences -> Sharing and enable 'Look for Shared Photos'. The main library will turn up in the Source (or left-hand) pane of the other iPhoto.
Remember that for this to work, the Admin account must be logged in and iPhoto must be running there.
I don't really care as long as there's no redundant files.
Define 'redundant'. You do realise that iPhoto is a database, with built-in image viewer, lightweight editor and version control. Version control means that if you modify a photo then iPhoto makes a copy, including the changes, and keeps the Original. This way you can always Revert to Original from the Photos menu. Many people switching to iPhoto are confused by this at first. If you don't want version control I strongly suggest using a different app. There a many, many image viewers for the Mac.
As to your point comment about One-Touch DVD. I'm not familiar with that piece of Software, but every DVD (and CD) that you burn is assembled on the HD first, then burned. That assembly is a cache file and should be trashed on completion.
As to disk space: you need to keep about 10 gigs of space on the Start-Up disk for Virtual memory, Temp files and other OS uses. If you do get an external at some point in the future it is possible to run both iPhoto and iTunes from it to free up space on the internal. Just check the help or post back to the relevant forum before moving them. It's not difficult, but there is a procedure that needs to be followed.

  • I have a new iMac and i created two libraries on iTunes. how do i copy songs from one library to the other?

I have a new imac. I created two libraries, one for me, one for my kids. how do I copy songs from one library to the other library?

Not easy unless you're just content with adding some files to the other as new files but lose playlists for those files, and playcount, and ratings, etc.  If you're okay with that, you can drag the media folder from one library to the other. If you use default settings and want to duplicate the media, just drag it. If you want to add the media but leave it where it is currently located, hold down the option key while dragging to the library window.

  • One Z10 works fine, the other has problems connecting to mobile network

Hi, my wife and I both have Z10's, and we're both on the same mobile network (Wind Mobile in Canada). The wife's Z10 seems to have no problems connecting to or staying connected to Wind Mobile. Mine on the other hand seems to randomly drop the connection, or has trouble obtaining connection, and sometimes ends up roaming.
The only difference between the two Z10's is that hers is purchased through Wind Mobile itself, and it is locked to their network for the moment. I purchased mine a bit later, and I bought mine directly through Blackberry's online store, and mine is therefore unlocked. What I have to do sometimes is turn off the mobile connection, and turn it back on, and it works after I do that. However, that's annoying, as I'd rather have it automatically retry the network connection so that it doesn't go roaming within my own city.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you're passing by a Wind store in the near future, why not drop in and ask if they'll swap SIM cards for you? It could be something with the SIM.
In the meantime, try resetting your phone. This is equivalent to doing a battery pull and it's usually the first thing I recommend when troubleshooting an issue. Simply press and hold your power button for about 15 seconds until you see BlackBerry on your screen. Don't release the button before that and ignore anything that appears before BlackBerry.
Let us know if either of those solutions helps you.

  • ITunes 7.0.2 sees shuffle on one Mac, not the other

I have one Mac with several System disks. All at 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.2. One system sees the new shuffle and will loads tunes. The other will ask to erase and sync and I agree. Then I choose songs and then apply. One system will go and load up the shuffle (with the proper image of the new shuffle in iTunes). The other (with a generic iPod image in iTunes) will say it cannot update because it cannot find the shuffle! On that problem system drive, I removed iTunes (receipt and helper) and then re-installed iTunes from the dmg. Same problem.
What other files is iTunes using that are corrupt on the problem system drive?
You may ask, why not use the good system? Well, the problem system is my everyday system with all the apps working! This system drive also has all the tunes files. This also has been through many upgrades.
It is time to start over?

The only receipts I have for iPod are the updaters for their firmware and the new reset program.

    iPod2006-06-28.pkg

I still think there is some file that got munged and it is preventing iTunes from working properly. This file is not provided by iTunes, but must be part of the OS.
    Here's hoping for a solution

  • Two Hard Drives on my computer - one totally full the other totally empty - how do I manage this - windows 8

Hi I have two hard drives on my computer running Windows 8. One is called OS (C:) and has 10.2GB free of 186GB, the other is Data (D:) and has 258GB of 258GB free.
I have just tried to update to Windows 8.1 and have had an error message saying there is not enough space on the OS drive to update as it needs 20GB.
What do I do about this? how do I get to use the 258GB of free space on the Data drive?
I'd be grateful for an answer!

    Hi,
In addition to the above information,
If your operating system is Windows 2008 and higher(Server) or Windows Vista and higher(Client).
Then you can use the native tool Disk Management to solve your requirement.
For opening Disk Management, Right click -> Computer -> Select Manage -> As result Computer Management console opens -> In the left pane under storage select Disk Management.
In the Disk Management, for extending your C: drive,
    - Since your partition layout as,  C: drive | D: drive.
    - After shrinking D: drive, the layout will be C: drive | D: drive | Unallocated space.
    - Since the unallocated space is not contiguous, when you right-click C: drive the "Extend Volume" option will be greyed out.
    - So to solve your requirement, you have to backup the data on D: drive -> Delete D: drive -> right-click on the c drive and select "Extend Volume" -> enter the size you want to add
    - Finally you can create a new D: drive from the remaining unallocated space and restore the backup data.

to increase space in c drive
