Problem - Title Cards in Vid Track 2 Skewing In and Out Points in Track 1 ?

Hi,
Vast confusion. I'm working with edits in a timeline, created from video files that are "Avid Meridien Compressed" Quicktime Files. These are files that I exported from Avid. They are 24P files. The timeline has been set to 23.97, and everything in Video Track 1 makes sense, no problems, no render line because the project compression settings have been set to "Avid Meridien Compressed".
Ok, so here's the problem. I am creating title cards with the video generator in FCP, and trying to super them into my edits by placing them into Video Track 2. But the moment I drop a title card into Video Track 2, (over an edit I have made in Video Track 1), there is a SHIFT in the in and out points of the source video in the timeline. For example, let's say an edit in my timeline has a source in of 02:02:30:17 and an out of 02:02:35:17. The moment I try and drop a title card over this edit in Video Track 2, the source video in Track 1 shifts, so it now begins at 02:02:31:29 and ends at 02:02:36:29.
It is as if the title cards refuse to conform to the 23.97 timeline, and are overriding the source video edit decisions in Video Track 1.
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this is occcuring? Does anyone have any suggestions for a remedy? BTW, I have also tried creating title cards in photoshop and dropping them in, but with the same result: it changes the source time code edits by shifting them later into the source video.
Thanks,
Mtbakerstu

Update!
While I was never able to get the Vid Track 2 title cards to stop shifting the edit decisions in Vid Track 1 when using the preset that is in tandem with the actual source video files (Avid Meridien Quicktimes at 23.98), I did find that by changing the Sequence Setting to DV/DVCPRO50 NTSC at 23.98 that I could drop the titles into Vid Track 2 successfully without any skewing of edit decisons. You now have to render the timeline, but a quick test of an MPEG2 export showed that there's no denigration in image quality with using this setting.
So that's the scoop. It seems that there's no pure solution to this issue. Perhaps if there's a way to generate title cards out of Avid that are importable into FCP, that would do the trick, but I haven't taken my research that far.
Thanks for your help!

  • How do I adjust my titles so they don't fade in and out? I have hundreds of photos/videos on screen for a second or so each, for a year-long birthday video, and I need the dates in my titles to be steady rather than fading in and out spastically.

I have been working on a project since December of 2012 for my son's first birthday. Basically, it's a photo or quick video each day of his life so far. I used the "upper" title and made the titles not fade in and out, because that could give someone a seizure. The idea is a seamless title that ticks away each day. But in the new iMovie, it changed my settings, and I can't for the life of me find how to change them back.
Now, each date flashes in and out, in and out, in and out. Fractions of seconds go by. It's really distracting and annoying.
How do I get the titles to remain on screen and not fade in and out? I had it just how I wanted it, but now we're rapidly approaching my son's birthday, and the video is suddenly a mess.
    How do I fix this?

I am working with the very same concept for my project and the auto fade in and out has messed everything up. If I hear or a fix I'll be sure to reply here to let you know!

  • New problem/bug when I set in and out points on a clip. Unwanted automatic zoom in on clip timeline.

Playing clips to log and set in and out points for scenes I will use later.  Something changed with the new update and I think it is a bug.  When I hit the I and O keys to set in and out points on a clip before dragging to the sequence, it zooms in on the clip timeline.  I cannot see the full clip time line unless I zoom out which is a pain to do time and time again.  How do I get it back to the way it was before?  It did not used to zoom in and out, it just marked your in and out point as it played leaving the clip timeline unchanged.
I am using windows 7 with Premiere Pro CC

    Hi,
Thanks for your post. I think you are using Premiere pro CS6 as the Project option is included in the file menu and in the video there is an option of project available and visible. Please update your CS6 with the latest 6.0.5 update and the issue will be fixed. The link is provided below. Please update once issue is fixed.

  • Problem with 23.98 can't type in and out points

Using FCP 6.06 with G5 and Kona 3. When I try to either digitize footage or edit to tape in 23.98 fps I can't physically enter a timecode value. When I do and hit enter it defaults to a random timecode. It will not except the number I type.
My gen lock is fine. I even ran a direct reference from our HDWF500 deck directly into the computer. Kona was happy, I had deck control but no ability to type in my in out points.
The easy set up I had selected was Kona 3 10bit uncompressed 23.98spf.
The strange thing is that it works fine with a 29.97 or 59.94 tape or time line.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This actually happens to me all the time in FCP - never in Avid's capture tool.
Usually I open and close the capture tool (Apple + 8). Pull the deck control, change deck control settings to non-controllable and then back again. A tell tail indicator that your deck isn't talking to your Kona is the jog/shuttle in the capture window. I test that before I type timecode into the window.

  • Problems with set in and out points

I am editing a basketball game-have done 20 of these games. Suddenly, I cannot change the set in point. If I make a new set in point, my last edit disappears from the timeline. How do I correct this?

I DO make sure the clip in the timeline is not selected when I set the new in and out points in the source clip. I have not been able to figure out anything that is different from the usual way I do this that is why this baffles me. I use PP daily and this seems to happen about once a month. I can't figure it out. I save, quit and restart the computer and then it works as it should. I was trying to understand so that I could prevent this from happening.
I do appreciate your common courtesy, Craig.

  • Global changes on an audio track or between in and out

I've come over from Avid and on Avid I could set an in an out point on an audio track and then changes the values of volume and pan which would then be changed between the in and out points.  I'm editing an interview and the radio mic channel has flipped over to one side and I want it in the middle and cannot get it to stay there.    I know that I can "write" in the audio mixer and just hold it there for hours, but I'm assuming there is a simpler way.  I know about paste attributes but it's not clear what I'm copying and where I'm pasting those attributes.  It would be far simpler if I could just select the audio track, set it the way I want it and tell it not to change for the duration.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

At the lower left of the timeline, there's a button that looks sort of like an upside down V. Click it- the clip overlays. You'll see red lines appear on your audio tracks. Grab the pen tool. Using it, you can click on the red rubber band lines to place key frames where you want. in your case, click once where you want your audio to begin fading out, then click again where you want the fade to end. On this last point, drag the keyframe all the way down, vertically.
As mentioned earlier, you can do this in the viewer as well - using the pen tool.

  • Problem with Quicktime Pro in and out Markings

    Hi,
I really need som help. I bought QT pro quite recently to be able to cut a movie. The problem is I can't get the markings (in and out). I have tried on two different computers and I have read the instructions. I have unmarked the box where it says "hide markings" and I have tried to press "i" and "o" when the movie is played but it doesn't help. When I first opened the program at computer no 2 there were markings (so at least I know how they look now) but they dissepeared when i opened an other file and now they are completely gone again. What is wrong? Could someone please help me? I need to make a film for my friend weddingday!!!
    /Charlotte

Very strange, is this just with certain files i.e. the wedding material or all files?

  • In and out editing on 2nd video track

I can select an in and out point on video track 1 and then extract that selection but is there a way to do this on the 2nd video track without the other video track being effected?

    Well it works here.
eg 2 video tracks on top of each other.
Lock either track so that the cross hatching shows on the locked clip.
Extract or Lift  from I's  and Os works as expected.

  • Consistent fades on Title cards

I am trying to slow the fades (in & out) of credits so I have lengthened the dissolves. The fade in is the right speed but the fade out seems to be quicker. I adjusted the thresholds for both from 50 to 30. Is that what is causing the problem? What is the best way to slow down the fades of the credits and keep them all consistent? The other problem I am finding is that when I lengthen the dissolves, there's too much time in black between credits. I want to be able to have slower credits without having a long space between them. Thanks.

  • EDL vid track and source file questions..

Can some one confirm and advise on this please.
PPRO can only export an EDL from a single Video Track ( you can choose which one).
Odd thing is that it recognises Vid 1 and Vid 2 as a single video track ( maybe a hangover from early iterations of PPRO when it was an A/B style timeline)
How does one suggest exporting EDLs from a sequence with multiple Vid tracks?     ( I am thinking I will have to collapse everything to Vid 1 & 2  but that is so inconvenient and complex... and I have 15 sequences to do).
Heres the next little EDL gottcha...( well it got-me) anyway
I shot AVCCAM (avchd)  to a different card each day.  ( This is a Caution to anyone using AVCHD)
Unlike the elegant P2 file unique name protocol...I  now have  source file names that are identical  eg 00001.mts, 00002.mts, 00003.mts  ....in the same project
    (AVCHD resets the .name clock.!!!)
Easily managed in my NLE system ( Rushes 1 and Rushes 2 source Folders)  no issue there... but it will get real interesting when I have to output edl and source files for Da Vinci Resolve and Flame Suite (next week).
    Any ideas guys...

I have never worked with EDL, but two questions/wild-shots-in-the-dark:
    - Export an EDL from each track, and then combine the EDL's in the target app?
    - Nesting, is that possible? (nest a multi-track sequence into a new one-track, and export an EDL from that)
Probably you see that I don't do to much broadcast work, so please excuse me if I'm way off...

  • Title Card is Blank at Beginning of Video?

    Hello,
With the past few videos I've created lately in Adobe Premiere Elements 7, I start the video with a few words on a title card before it launches into video/voiceovers, etc.
However, after I export the video and upload it to the "channel" we use to stream our videos, when played back, the beginning title card either doesn't show the text at all or shows it for a half-second and then the screen goes black before the video starts properly. The rest of the video and title cards work just fine. It's just the beginning title cards taht don't show up.
Any suggestions on how to fix it? I've tried deleting and recreating the card, recreating the entire video, created the card in Photoshop and inserted it as an image... but nothing seems to fix it.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.
As a test, go to the New Icon in the Project Panel, and choose Black Media. This will be created at the Duration, that is set in Edit Preferences, but that does not matter. In the Project Panel, Dbl-click on that new Black Media, to open it in the Source Monitor. There, set the Out Point to the 02 sec. mark. Now, drag that 02 sec. Black Video to the front of the Timeline, and in the Video Track with your Title. Everything else shoudl Ripple, to accommodate that 02 sec.of Black Video. Then, just add a Cross-dissolve to the junction between the Black Video and the Title. Export/Share and test. Does that get you the full Duration of your Title?
    Good luck, and please report,
    Hunt

Hello, I have a Mac computer with NVIDIA 750M dedicated graphics card and monitor EIZO but the problem was there when I was working with Windows and Acer monitor. When I open a file from Camera Raw in PS this is smaller than the screen so I double-click with the tool "hand" to fit on the screen, but the picture loses sharpness and becomes blurry. If you magnify the image even only slightly with the tool "zoom" the picture comes back clear. In Camera Raw instead is always sharp. I solve the problem by turning off the graphics card in PS but often use plugin that need the graphics card otherwise the processing time is much longer. I ask for help.
    Thanks.

  • How Can I Make Title Cards Appear with Flicker Behind Them?

    Hello professionals,
I have a question for you, guys:  I am editing a short film now which is a throwback to some old 1930's films.  I keep creating the title cards but the font always looks to modern.  How can I create the title cards in Final Cut Pro so they have that old, 1930's feel flicker to it?  An example of this would be the opening credits in this film:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvXtjWq-k78
I'd like to do something similar.  Thank you so much in advance.
    Matthew

While it won't be exactly the same you can easily create something similar. Go to the GENERATORS BROWSER and select TEXTURES and the PAPER and drag that to the timeline. Then in TITLES drag the BASIC TITLE on top of your paper and select the font you want while changing the colour to black, etc. in the INSPECTOR.
Select the title and paper on your timeline and right-click and select NEW COMPOUND CLIP.
In the EFFECTS select VIGNETTE and drop that on your clip. Then you could add FILM GRAIN, SIDELIGHTS, or perhaps PROJECTOR and in the INSPECTOR adjust the parameters.
Not sure if that's what you're looking for but it's a possibility.

  • How do I import a graphic image as title card?

I'm trying to create a title card in Fireworks, export it, and import it into iMovie.
I'm wondering what type of image it should be, how large, and how it can be imported into iMovie.
I"d rather not use the system's title card creator, as I don't like the background color options.
    I'm using iMovie 11.
    thanks

I generally use Keynote to create some of my more elaborate titles (say, for wedding videos). I usually set the slide size to 1280 x 720 and save as a jpeg. You can also create animated titles and export them as a .mov file for use in iMovie. Most of my editing work involves HD clips imported as HD 1920 x 1080, but I find that using 1280 x 720 produces excellent results. All text is crisp and all graphics are immaculate (at least to my eyes).
After exporting from Keynote I import the jpeg files to iPhoto. Then in iMovie I click on the Photo Browser and drag the images into the timeline, dropping them into their appropriate position.
You can also drag images from any location on the hard drive (Desktop, for example). But I prefer to have them in iPhoto as I'm unlikely to move them from that location. If you move media files after importing them to iMovie, it's almost certain that iMovie will lose the link.
I'm not familiar with Fireworks, but thought a brief outline of my experience with Keynote may be helpful.

  • How do I copy and paste a title card?

I have a title card which I've set all the text up how I want it, and now want to copy and paste that title card and change the new text. When I copy and paste it, all I can see it the blue background, but not the text. If I roll over the first title card in the editing window, I see the text, but not on the new one I pasted in.
    Shouldn't this be possible?
    Thanks

select by highlighting the piece of text or picture that you would like and either hold cmd and c or right click if you have a mouse or double finger tap if you have a pad and click highlight.
Than go onto the document and click on the page. You can either hold cmd and v or you can right click if you have a mouse or double finger tap if you have a pad and click on paste.
