Problem w/ secondary POP account

I have two POP accounts running in Mail.
This morning my second account gave this message:
the server error encountered was: The connection to the server "mail.hawaiiantel.net" on port 0 timed out.
How do I trouble shoot/fix this problem? I have done nothing to my settings on either account. I did empty my cache last night and reset Safari befor shutting down for the day yesterday, could this be linked?

Go to System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.
BTW, please fill in the Operating System field on your My Settings's profile (and click Save), so that this information automatically appears in all your posts.

• Problem with one POP account

I'm having major problems with a single POP account, using Mail 3.3. It was there with 10.5.2 and persists with upgrade to 10.5.3. I have 5 accounts (3 POP, 2 IMAP) and all work fine except one and that one no longer can receive mail-haven't seen any new mail in about a week. When I attempt to import mail the activity indicator just spins but nothing shows up. Have also tried to thin it out but mail I thought was deleted shows up again. Any ideas-this is pretty frustrating!

I recently have been trying to find out why my email won't go online. A window pops up stating The identity of "pop.qwestoffice.net" cannot be verified. The certificate for this server is invalid. You may be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "pop.qwestoffice.net" putting information at risk. It asks to connect anyway? Anyone out there have a clue? I am losing my contacts with my clients.

• Nokia E6 POP account problem.

Hi,
I have a problem with my POP account which I use on my E6. Is it possible not to delete messages from server when I delete them from E6 mail app? I don't want them to be displayed on phones' mail, but I don't want to delete them from the server either. There is no option like "Leave messages on server" which would do what I want to accomplish. Is there a way?
Thanks in advance.

Since its earliest days, Nokia Email was designed to keep email on the phone in sync with email on the server. I have never used the newer Symbian^3 and newer email clients, but have my doubts that Nokia has broken with tradition. So I don't believe what you ask is possible, buy you might investigate a 3rd party email client like ProfiMail: http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=profimail .

• Synching emails with a POP account

I am able to receive email on the iPhone, but only if I have not opened it on my computer email. I selected (in iTunes) to sync with the correct email address, but those messages that I already opened do not sync over to the iPhone.
How do I move over all messages in my in-box so both computer and iPhone inbox are synced?

First, to clarify...email messages themselves *do not* sync through iTunes...only the email *account settings* sync. This only needs to be done the first time and then can be unchecked. Email messages are fetched by the phone just as they are from your computer - they don't sync through iTunes.
What's happening is that your computer is pulling the message off the server when you check it there, which makes it unavailable for the iPhone to access...which is in inherent problem with a POP account.
If you'd like to have an exact match between your emai on your computer and iPhone, you should look into an IMAP account. With IMAP, whatever happens on one device, happens on the others...in other words, if you read an email on your iPhone and leave it in your inbox, when you access that account on your computer, the message will be sitting in the inbox, marked as read. If you delete a message from your computer, it will be deleted from the account on the iPhone as well. Unfortunately, this behavior can't be duplicated with a POP account.
Hope that helps.

• I had no problem setting up my pop mail account for my primary email, but cannot set up a 2nd pop account for my secondary account. I'm using Ipad2. Can you help?

I cannot seem to set up a 2nd pop account on my Ipad2. No problems setting up the primary but the secondary keeps telling me that either username or password is incorrect. Both are correct. It's driving me crazy. Can someone help?
Thanks!

Maybe I'm not following completely, but you can configure email accounts manually, if you want. Just hold down the Option key when you click Continue on the first screen. You can then choose the type of account and set up the servers as you like.
This help page seems to think you can still use POP with Yahoo.

• Having problem to send email with POP account ...

Hi,
I didn't have that problem before upgrading to my new 3GS iPHone. I have 3 email accounts on my iPhone: POP (videotron.ca), GMail and MobileMe. They all work fine except my POP account.
From the POP account I can receive my email but I cannot send any. Funny enough, my emails are sent when the account is desactivated from my «Mail, contacts and Calendar» preferences on my iPhone.
Can somebody help me ? Regards.
Robert

Hi Robert,
I upgraded with the Iphone 3Gs a week ago and got the same problem with Videotron. The problem is with videotron as usual. If you want to be able to send email from your Iphone just go to Gmail, open an account FREE with them and then use this account to send Email...Work perfectly OK with me. Then of course you will have to phone videotron to make sure your account is fully available when you go on there Web site open the read email and be able to read your email if not solve the problem with them by phone. unless you will be able to send email easily with gmail and mather of fact it is free.
Hope this will help from Quebec to Quebec!!!

That issue can be caused by corrupted cookies.
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.sqlite-journal and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

• Has anyone had problems sending emails using via (Road Runner) POP account?

I cannot send any emails w/ the iPhone via Road Runner POP account.... I have tried everything. From Calling Time Warner to have my Password reset just incase I'm using the incorrect password, which in fact the settings menu for mail says the password for outgoing emails are optional.. I keep getting a message saying "my email was rejected by the server" Is anyone having this problem and if so please suggest any solutions.......
Does anyone know how to set my mail app on my home computer to only forward the messages I want to my iPhone while moving all other junk emails to my Junk folder on my computer????

Last I checked you could not access RoadRunner outgoing mail servers from outside of the RoadRunner network (i.e., the AT&T EDGE network). You can use cwmx.com as your outgoing mail server, with no ID or password, and that will work while you are on EDGE (but now when you are on WiFi).
As for junk mail, that is the scourge of the internet. Many people have many solutions - I can share with you mine. I had all my email forwarded to a free GMail account. GMail has amazingly efficient SPAM filters, and it has cut down my spam 99%. You can configure your account on the iPhone using the "Other" shortuct in such a way that emails seem to come from your Roadrunner account. The added bonus is that the GMail outgoing server works on both EDGE and WiFi, so you dont have to worry about where you are at.

• Problems with POP account on Mail

My POP account set up on Mail has suddenly stopped receiving / sending emails. All account settings have been double checked and I have a good internet connection. I'm running 10.6 on an iMac - hope someone can help. Thanks

Try Mail's menu option Window > Connection Doctor to see if that shows you anything that explains the problem.
By the way, if you click on "Your Stuff" (toward the upper-right part of this window), then click on "Profile", in the section of "My Products" you can enter your hardware and software details so that you don't keep having to type them each time.

• Roadrunner /POP account / problems

One person I know was unable to receive e-mails from me. The letters would bounce back to me several days letter with the usual list of possible excuses like "maybe there is a network problem with aol" etc etc. But once and while a letter would get through. Now it's happening with another person only the reasons are getting stranger. A msg said my e-mail was refused because Hot Mail was blocking my IP because of compliants. Roadrunner confirmed that isn't the case. Another person get some letter and not others but I get no return letters or reasons. What the heck is going on? I send e-mails all over the world successfully every day but I get send them to my neighbors? Roadrunner said there was a problem but they are working on it. Frankly I don't think they know what's going on. It's pretty serious when you think your e-mails are being refused when they're not. They gave me a case # and said to call in 24 hours. (I have a POP account / smtp-server) Version 2.0.7 I'm not very hopeful as it seems they don't have a clue what's going on. They said their logs indicated I can't send or receive but I can send and recieve but not to and from every address.

I'm having a similar issue--my messages to my friend with a hotmail account keep getting bounced back, saying the return address (mine) is refused or can't be verified or something along those lines. Anyone have any idea to resolves this?

• Pop account problems

I live in Hawaii. I use to live on Oahu. There I used TimeWarner's Roadrunner for cable access. But since moving to Puna, Hawaii,Big Island, I no longer have "roadrunner", as my pop account as they are no longer my ISP.
When I try to get into mail it is asking me for my pop account password, which is no longer valid. So this morning I went into mail prefrences and deleted my pop account info. Now it appears that my Mac mail isn't coming through at all to my computer? What can I do to solve my problem with mail???
mahalo,
Roger

Aloha Allan,
actually Allan what I'm trying to convey is this. Since changing islands I no longer use 'Roadrunner' as my ISP, only because it not where my house is being built. So, since changing islands I cancelled 'Roadrunner', and now use DSL from Hawaiian Telcomm. As I opened the mail app. I get a small window asking for password for pop account. That password was with 'Roadrunner', and now since I don't use them anymore I can't access that account using their password...so I deleted my pop account from mail prefrences. Now when I open mail....there is nothing from my inbox? Shouldn't my .Mac mail appear there as it did before?

• POP Account Problems with Broadband Provider

I am having trouble with accessing my "work" POP account from my home broadband service provider (Charter). These problems started a month ago or so, although ocassionally I can still access this POP account from home. This work POP account works fine when traveling or at work. The POP account I have through Charter and my Mac account work just fine. I am using all the default setting in Mail, which have worked for several years with this POP account.

Is your carrier and server Vodafone?
If so, its an issue on their end that they dont have an ETA on a fix.
If not, sorry, cant help.

• I just started using my iphone 5s. I have a problem with new incoming emails from my POP account. Why are they marked as read automatically even though I have not even opened them yet.

I just started using my iphone 5s. I have a problem with new incoming emails from my POP account. Why are they marked as read automatically even though I have not even opened them yet.
At first I thought it might be because I was using simultaneously my old iPhone 4S so it somehow realized the emails where being pushed to another device and the it marked as read, this has nothing to do since I have deleted the email account from the iPhone 4S

Contact the email provider for assistance with their service.

• Problems with POP account passwords after setting up iPhone

I bought and installed an iPhone yesterday.
I run a .mac and 5 POP email accounts. All were set up smoothly and work perfectly on the iPhone.
Email client is Apple Mail.
Since then the Apple Mail client is having difficulty retrieving mail. For all the POP accounts I am getting a password challenge response dialogue box asking for password.
I have tried re-entering them all incase the Keychain change to allow the iPhone access had corrupted them, but no difference.
If I can press Cancel on the dialogue box the account is set to offline by the Mail client. If however I persist with the Get Mail it will retrieve mail successfully without challenging password. I would say 8 times out of 10 it will challenge, the other 2 times it will retrieve normally.
Has anybody got suggestions/experience of this behaviour?
Thanks in advance
Damon

The incoming mail server for most POP accounts don't like or support two email clients on the same computer or on different devices accessing the incoming mail server at the same time.
I have a business POP account that I access with the Mail.app on my Mac and with the iPhone's email client and the account will eventually go offline with the Mail.app when using the iPhone to access the account at the same time.
This isn't an issue with an IMAP account and a .Mac type account with the Mail.app is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
