Problem while using oracle.sql.CLOB

Hello,
I was trying to use oracle.sql.CLOB to update CLOB types in database. I was able to successfully run the update when I use the connection obtained from normal DriverManager.getConnection method. But have issues when I use a datasource lookup, Am using Websphere as my JDBC provider environ.
The exception I get during the execution of this line is
oracle.sql.CLOB newClob = oracle.sql.CLOB.createTemporary((java.sql.Connection)conn, false, oracle.sql.CLOB.DURATION_CALL);
java.lang.ClassCastException: com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.jdbc.WSJdbcConnection
as my connection is obtained by DataSource.getConnection() method.
Is this a documented limitation of Oracle SQL CLOB class or is there a way I can tweak the code to work.
Am using a oracle 9i thin driver
Thanks

With the new Oracle drivers there is no need to do it that complicated.
Finally Oracle has implemented the standard JDBC calls, and inserting a CLOB is really easy now:
String clobContent  = populateClobData(); // whatever...
stmt = con.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO clob_table (id, clob_col) VALUES (?,?)";
stmt.setInt(1, 42);
Reader r = new StringReader(clobContent);
stmt.setCharacterStream(2, r, clobContent.length());
stmt.executeUpdate();
con.commit();This works with UPDATE as well. If you need to deal with BLOBs simply use setBinaryStream().
Reading is done using getCharacterStream() or getBinaryStream()
This actually works across all (or at leas all major) database systems

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Internal Error while using oracle.sql.ARRAY.getArray

    Hello All,
    Here is the issue description. Our application uses Oracle Object Types and LIST. We deployed our application on QA environment which has Oracle 10g. Application runs fine...no issues. Now we moved to UAT. UAT environment is same as QA environment and DBA have created replica of QA database.
    Now WAR file which works fine with QA database , somehow doesnt work with UAT database. Application throws following exception when code tries to call getArray() on java.sql.Array.
    We tried to point UAT weblogic to QA database and it worked fine.....but when we point UAT weblogic to UAT database , we get following exception. So we know that this is a database issue.
    DBA claims that QA env database and UAT env database are same.
    Can anybody please tell me what wrong here? What setting is not done on UAT database which is done on QA?

    This can happen if you use the oracle.sql.ARRAY class with WebLogic.
    WebLogic wraps oracle.sql.ARRAY with its own class (i.e. weblogic.jdbc.wrapper.Array_oracle_sql_ARRAY). The easiest solution is to replace oracle.sql.ARRAY with the JDBC standard java.sql.Array.
    <PRE class=jive-pre><CODE class="jive-code jive-java">Object[] items = (Object[])array.getArray();
    <FONT color=navy><B>if</B></FONT> (items.length &gt; 0) <FONT color=navy>{</FONT>
    <FONT color=navy><B>for</B></FONT> (<FONT color=navy><B>int</B></FONT> i = 0; i &lt; items.length; i++) <FONT color=navy>{</FONT>
    Object arrayItem = items;
    <FONT color=navy>}</FONT>
    <FONT color=navy>}</FONT>
    </CODE></PRE>
    The <B>array</B> object is a java.sql.Array. Here no unwrapping of the WebLogic wrapper is needed.
    If you absolutely need the oracle.sql.ARRAY class than you must use an <B>unwrap</B> API on the WebLogic wrapper class.
    <PRE class=jive-pre><CODE class="jive-code jive-java"><FONT color=navy><B>if</B></FONT> (object <FONT color=navy><B>instanceof</B></FONT> weblogic.jdbc.wrapper.Array)
    array = (ARRAY) ( ((weblogic.jdbc.wrapper.Array)object).unwrap(Class.forName(<FONT color=red>"oracle.sql.ARRAY"</FONT>)) );
    <FONT color=navy><B>else</B></FONT>
    array = (ARRAY) object;
    </CODE></PRE>
    Here, <B>array</B> is an oracle.sql.ARRAY. Try to see if this <A class=bodylinkwhite href="http://www.software-to-convert.com/3gp-conversion-software/3gp-to-myspace-video-software.html"><FONT face=tahoma,verdana,sans-serif color=#000 size=1>helps</FONT></A>. Good luck.

  • Problem while using oracle stored procedure in VC

    Hi All,
    I have created JDBC system and connected my locally installed Oracle data base to the VC.  I mapped the data base user to my VC user. I tested connection and it is fine. Further I see the DB alias in Visual Composer and I can drop stored procedures to my story board. I can define parameters, but when I am executing procedures I get the error message.
    Problem: I can not execute stored procedures stored in Oracle data base. Error Message: Portal request failed. Could not execute stored procedure.
    In the stored procedure, I have used select query, that returns set of records, so that  I have used  REF CURSOR as OUT Parameter. Is REF CURSOR supported by VC?. Else, any  tricks available to solve this problem?.
    Note: Stored Procedure of Sql server is working fine in VC.
    Thanks,
    Venkatesh R

    Returning (or sending in) multiple rows directly from (or to) a stored procedure is not currently possible. I have been in contact with SAP on this subject earlier, and they suggest using a web service to do the job. I used this as a work around, calling the stored procedure from a web service. I send in VC tables to this web service, and this in turn contacts my stored procedure.
    The problem is related to the connector framework in the J2EE environment.
    I am on 7.0 sps 17
    If you use stored procedure single value parameters of type varchar, number ... then VC has no problem communicating with your procedures.
    Good luck

  • HI sir, i  got a problem while using oracle 11g,where it is asking username

    I installed Oracle11g R1 DB version 11.1.0.6 and upgraded it to 11.1.0.7 using patch set 6890831 .After that i wantd to use SQL * plus,but it is asking username & passwords. But while installing it didn't ask for any usernames ,so i tried all default usernames but didnt work. Can any one help me.

    Hi,
    After applying patch did u create Listener(using netca command) and created a database(using dbca command) ?
    I guess u have not created the database where u would be providing the username and password to login to sqlplus.
    If u have any other queries let me know.
    Thanks,

  • Problem with java.sql.Clob and oracle.sql.CLOB

    Hi,
    I am using oracle9i and SAP web application server. I am getClob method and storing that in java.sql.Clob and using the getClass().getName() I am getting the class name as oracle.sql.CLOB. But when I am trying to cast this to oracle.sql.CLOB i am getting ClassCastException. The code is given below
    java.sql.Clob lOracleClob = lResultSet.getClob(lColIndex + 1);
    lPrintWriter = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter (((oracle.sql.CLOB) lOracleClob).getCharacterOutputStream()));
    lResourceStatus = true;
    can anybody please tell me the what is the problem with this and solution.
    thanks,
    Ashok.

    Hi Ashok
    You can get a "ClassCastException" when the JVM doesn't have access to the specific class (in your case, "oracle.sql.CLOB").
    Just check your classpath and see if you are referring to the correct jar files.

  • SQL types over PLSQL types while using Oracle Applications adapter in BPEL

    Use SQL types over PL/SQL types while using Oracle Applications adapter
    in BPEL/ ESB
    This document will be focusing on Oracle Applications adapter. However Database adapter is much like OA adapter (even OA adapter uses DB Adapter), so the readers who are interested to explore DB adapters, can relate things with this document and go further as well.
    Some Guidelines for writing PL/SQL APIs for OA Adapter
    As we know when we create a partner link from the OA adapter wizard it sometimes writes some wrapper script supportive to the OA Adapter WSDL which contains below
    * Object type for PL/SQL RECORD
    * Nested table of the given type for PL/SQL TABLE. For example, the nested table of NUMBER.
    * INTEGER substituted for PL/SQL BOOLEAN
    * Wrapper Script for converting above three set of data types . (PLSQL to SQL and SQL to PLSQL conversion functions)
    In runtime this wrapper script for converting PL/SQL to SQL and SQL to PL/SQL is an extra overhead.
    So the first advice would be to avoid the use of the below as parameters of PLSQL API being called by OA Adapter.
    * PL/SQL RECORD
    * PL/SQL TABLE. For example, the nested table of NUMBER.
    * PL/SQL BOOLEAN
    In other way we can say we should try to use only SQL data types in arguments if we are planning to call any PL/SQL API from the OA Adapter.
    If the requirement is to use a table or record uses the Object type. In place of BOOLEAN better to use VARCHAR or INTEGER what ever fulfills your requirement. Following this guideline we can reduce a huge number of Line of codes to be run each time the adapter being called.
    Generally, Oracle E-Biz standard APIs use PL/SQL record types and table types so when there is a requirement to call these API’s from OA Adapter (this is a common requirement in development), and if we directly browse the API in OA Adapter Configuration Wizard and create the partner link, again a huge number of code is written by the wizard in the wrapper script (a number of extra mapping of fields which are not being used in the interface).
    In this case better would be to create an Object type with only the required fields which are being used in that call and use them as parameters for the PLSQL API.

    Hi,
    One prior post discussing the use of Java 7 is:
    SQL Developer 3.0  and Java SE 7?
    There is no need to uninstall any Java version (except if you have disk space constraints) and no problem switching between Java versions. This may be controlled in the sqldeveloper.conf file in your ...\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin directory via the SetJavaHome line. For example:
    #SetJavaHome ../../jdk
    SetJavaHome C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_26
    #SetJavaHome C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.7.0Regards,

    Problem for using oracle xml parser v2 for 8.1.7

    When I use this xsl in pl/sql package, I got

  • Issues using Oracle SQL server Developer migration work bench

    Hi all,
    We are trying to migrate the application databases from SQL server 2000 to Oracle 10g using Oracle SQL Developer 1.2.1.32.13:
    Following is the list of issues that we faced while trying out this migration on dev environment.
    1. The data migration was successful for only around 90 tables out of the total 166 tables present. No error message was logged for the rest of the tables but still it was completed.
    2. Some of the tables which had got the data inserted did not have the full data. Only some of the rows were inserted for these tables. Error message was logged only for few of the rows and not all.
    3. Few error messages were logged which said problems about “Inserting ' ' into column <tablename>.<columnname>”. There was no such constraint in the target database that the particular column can not be null or can not have only a space. Please check the logs for the same error messages.
    4. The status box at the end of migration had shown only 3 errors.
    5. The total data for migration was around 500MB. The time taken for migration was around 75 minutes. Are there any optimization techniques that will improve the performance?
    Please note that there were no Foreign Key references for the source schema or target schema.
    Any pointers/info/resolutions related to above mentioned issues will be much useful for us.
    Thanks,

    Hi Adam,
    There are 2 sets of scripts created for you.
    1) For SQL Servers BCP to dump out the data to dat files
    2) For Oracles SQL*Loader to load the dat files
    You run the SQL Server BCP scripts on the machine with SQL Server.
    The dat files will be dumped out on that server.
    You can then move the dat files to your Oracle server.
    Then run the Oracle SQL*Loader scripts to load the dat files into Oracle.
    Give it a go and follow the doc and viewlets.
    Your Questions:
    So the datadump from the source location would be saved on my local disk?it will be saved on the same machine you run the bcp scripts from. Usually the same machine SQL Server is on, because you require SQL Server BCP tool.
    So once it is migrated to the destination database will that dump be created automatically? Or do I need to modify the script to take care of this?I dont know what you mean by this, hopefully above clears things up.
    The only modifications you need to make to the scripts are adding in the databasename username password servername. These are outlined in the scripts themselves. I would want to do something fancy like dump the dat files to a different directory, then you can modify the scripts, but you should understand what they do first.
    Most people would have 500MB of space on their discs , so I can see the problem creating these dat files . The same goes for your 30 GB database.
    I hope this helps, but as always you wont get a good idea of how it works until you give it a go.
    Regards,
    Dermot.

  • Unable to connect to Oracle Database using Oracle Sql developer 2.1.1.64

    Hi Everyone,
    I am searching for some help regarding my problem with Oracle connectivity. I have installed Oracle 11g release 2 on my Windows XP Professional Laptop. For a few days after installation i could connect to the Oracle database with the SYSTEM account using Oracle SQL developer ( installed on the same Laptop) but now i am unable to do so.It gives me this annoying message:
    An error was encountered performing the required operation  Got a minus one from read call .Vendor code 0
    However i am able to connect using Sql Plus by supplying the username SYSTEM and the corresponding password.
    My TNSNAMES .ora file is as follows:
    ORACLE =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORACLE)
    ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = CLRExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    My Listener.ora file is as follows:

    My Sqlnet.ora file is as follows:
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
    I am new to Oracle and so i need someone in this forum who can help me resolve this problem. Also i even tried connecting to the database using Toad 10.5.0.41. It give me the following error:
