Problems acquiring images with IMAQ-1408

I have a IMAQ-1408 acquisition card that I recently transplanted from an old computer to a new P4. Initially, it did record a few images (both in one of my programs and using the test panels in the Measurement and Automation Explorer. Now it doesn't acquire. I have tried several things like switching PCI slots, adjusting some of the settings like the sync voltage levels and such, but I'm not getting any images. All 6 diagnositc tests past (from 'FPGA register' to 'Basic interrupt'). Also, the card is still detecting something - when I connect to a video source, I get the error ... when I have it disconnected from the video, it gives an IMG-ERR-VLCK. So it must be detecting some of the V-synch pulses. Anyway, at what poi
nt do I decide that my card is non-functional? Are there any more setting adjustments I should try. (BTW, I'm using an NTSC source).
thanks

This issue is sounding more like a hardware problem if the diagnostics fail repeatedly. Before considering repair or purchasing a new board, I still recommend testing the card in another machine just to be thorough.
The board most likely can be repaired (I'm not sure about the cost, since it is most likely out of warranty). Otherwise, the PCI-1409 board is similar to the 1408, but has several advantages. Please see this KnowledgeBase for more information on the differences. If you are interested in the repair/replacement options, please generate a service request to speak directly with an engineer. You can generate a request online at "http://www.ni.com/ask">www.ni.com/ask. This will allow us to set up an RMA if need be.

  • Acquire images with labview via firewire and TWAIN

    Hi,
I have a camera from optronics. This camera is plugged to my computer
via a FireWire IEEE-1394 connection. The company optronics offers a
TWAIN driver for this camera: some files like TWAIN.dll and
TWAIN_32.dll. I would like to acquire images with labview and
communicate with the camera but I have no idea on how I should get
    started.
The 3 main things I'd like to do are: 1) change the exposure time 2) snap images 3) see the images in labview.
I will really appreciate if someone could give me some ideas to get started...

    Michael, From a
more general standpoint, what you'll need to do is use a Call
Library Function Node (located in the All Functions>>Advanced
palette) to call the necessary functions out of those DLLs. Before you
can do this, you'll need to know some specifics about what functions
are available in those DLLs and what parameters/outputs are associated
with them. This information is typically available in the product
manual or perhaps someone else with experience with your specific
device can speak to that. Once you know the functions necessary to
execute the desired operations, you simply configure a Call Library
Function Node for each of them and place them in your LabVIEW code.
    Just
saw this and want to clarify on this. This is a total no-go! The Twain
interface is a very old technology from the days when Windows was a
cooperative multitasking environment without real tasks or threads. In
order for Twain to allow for some sort of multitasked integration into
an application it requires you to integrate the Twain handling into the
message loop of your application. As you do not have direct control
over the source code LabVIEW is written from, this is a very tedious
operation, with Windows message hooks and such, lots and lots of
semaphore protection to avoid race conditions etc. etc.
There is simply no way that you can do anything even remotely workable
just by using the Call Library Node. You will need a (rather complex)
external shared library that goes in between Twain and LabVIEW and
takes care of all the subtleties. I know for sure because I wrote such
    a beast in the past.
Now there is a Toolkit from the French Alliance member Alliance Vision http://www.alliancevision.com/us/index.html that
does this. If you need Twain I would definitely go for this. My own
library is only to the point of what I had needed for a particular
project, (meaning it supports two specific scanners without issues) and
without any documentation for external users and I couldn't give it
    away for free either.
Just want to warn you but there is a good chance that the Alliance
Vision Twain Toolkit does not really give you full programmatic control
of all the parameters of non-scanner devices and you won't be able to
avoid letting the Twain driver show the device specific configuration
    dialog to manipulate specific settings.
In my own library I have low level functions to directly manipulate
Twain attributes but in order to be able to use that you would need a
through knowledge of the Twain specifications down to the API. That
together with the difficulties to support other devices I don't have
available, made us decide to not try to sell this Toolkit yet.

  • How to acquire images with a Sony dsc

Hi, I would like to know if there is a method to interface or connect a consumer digital camera (Sony dsc- s650) to labview, what I'm trying to do is control the camera in order to acquire images whit it, I have read some stuff about .icd files but i havent been able to find more information about it, this is a school project i need to build a machien vision app but i'm very limited with hardware so fas this is the only camera i have, thanks.

    Hello mjasso,
If you cannot buy NI hardware to
interface with a camera, you have three options: firewire, GigE or USB
cameras. From a datasheet I found on the web, the Sony dsc-s650 has a
USB interface. The following knowledgebase article explains which USB
    cameras are supported:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/89E33B77CFE244E986256F8E004E0F13
. You will need the NI-IMAQ for USB driver if the camera has a
DirectShow filter. You will probably have to contact Sony to verify
    this information.
Please refer to the following webpage
to see the requirements for the IMAQ for USB driver:
    http://sine.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5030 . I hope this helps.

Hello all, I've a CCD camera throug I try to acquire images by a PCI 1409 card. Im configuring the device throug MAX and seens to work fine, but when I'm using the snap block or minor level I cant see anything, the image turn black. I've search in other forums and I've found that the moving the range it can be fixed, but even changing this, the image does not change just take a solid gray escale color. I taked some screen prints.

  • Problem uploading images with php script.

As a webdebdesigner i developped a cms system to upload images with php to a mysql database. Firefox version 5.0.1 for MAC and earlier have no problems with uploading through the script. But after that version it is impossible to upload images bigger then 250kb. The page where the customer chooses his image for upload stalls and the form is not sent to the actual upload script, which should validate and process the image.
This problem only occurs in Firefox, all other browsers work just fine!

  • Acquire Image with two light sources

    Hello
I am using a NI 1772 camera with Vision Builder AI. I have an acquire image function which has an external trigger. The lighting fixture is to an advanced illumination pulsar 320 strobe control and I have two different lighting sources; Axial Diffuse Illuminator DL37100 and DL097. My final goal is to acquire crisp images of caps. The caps are coloured from white to black, where the DL37100 picks out the Dark colour caps and the DL097 can pick out the white caps. I have a program that automatically adjusts the exposure time based on the colour.
Is there a way I can trigger the acquire image, and have the inspection take two images of a cap and determine which lighting source to use?

Instead of a dedicated circuit/hardware for this you could try using the on-board pulse generation functionality to do this. You could do something where one pulse generator is triggered by your outside source, and it generates a continuous pulse train of your frame rate. You'd then pass that output to an input that is triggering another pulse generator with a re-armed pulse with a delay of 1 edge count. The output of this would then effectively be for every other image. You'd then combine this with a single-shot, 2-image acquisition that is triggered off that intermediate pulse train. You'd have to make sure you stop the pulse train between each single-shot acquisition. Keep in mind that loop-back between output and input requires a pull-up resistor.
Note: I haven't tried this Rube Goldberg mechanism described above myself, but it seems like it could work

  • Average images with IMAQ add and IMAQ divide

I'm having trouble averaging images I obtain from a 1409 framegrabber.
I only works for 2 images when acquiring images, either 8 or 10 bit.
According to me it should work for either 64 10 bits images or 256 8 bits images.
Does anybody see any obvious mistakes in my program?

    Hi,
I haven't been able to look at your code, but are you sure it hasn't got anything to do with overflow? (values > 255)?
Easiest way (if there is no time constraint), is to use the ImageToArray function. Convert then to I32, and you are able to add as many pictures as you want.
Afterwards divide and use the ArrayToImage function.

  • How to store jpeg images with IMAQ PCI-1409 without vision or labview

I have acquired an IMAQ PCI-1409 card and have it working just fine. However the card is being primarily used to aquire images for display purposes only. The only options with MAX are .tiff, .bmp and .png
It would be nice to be able to store images as .jpeg which would be easier to share with other people.
Is this possible or do I have to compress the images using another software?

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
Unfortunately, as you mentioned, the only save options available in MAX are TIFF, BMP, and PNG. In order to save the image as a JPEG, you will need to use another software program. Microsoft Paint will allow you to save/convert any of these types to JPEG format. Other programs (Adobe Photoshop for example) allow you to customize the compression used, but Microsoft Paint does not.

  • Problems uploading images with uppercase (.JPG) file extension.

I am using coldfusion 8 and have no problems uploading an image using CFFile when the image has a lowercase file extensions such as .jpg however if the same file has a Uppercase file extension .JPG coldfusion hangs and then just times out. The files are exactly the same just different cases in the extensions.
    Any idea?
    My cffile is set as such   <cffile accept="image/*" action="upload" destination="#uploadfolder2#" filefield="profilePictureFileBrowser" nameconflict="makeunique" >
I tried changing the accept property to image/*, image/jpg, image/JPG but that did not fix the problem either

Thanks for the quick reply. So I removed the tag and even though I get an error after submitting the form it appears to not hang anyways. Any idea how to fix this?
I am on a windows 2003 server so cases sensitifity should not be a problem. I am perplexed as to why this would work with lowercase extensions an not upper?

  • Problems saving image with outer glow as gif

I've created a logo with an outer glow and it looks great as an illustrator file but there are problems when I save it as a gif file.  The glow is replaced by a white blob around the logo.  Not sure if this has anything to do with it but the image has a transparent background.  I'm new to the Adobe suite.  Should I be adding the glow in Photoshop or can it be done, and look right, in illustrator?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

GIFs cannot have alpha transparency. So you need to choose the same background color as you use on the HTML page, so that Illustrator can calculate your graphic when saving for web.
PNG can have alpha transparency, but you cannot use the "screen" blend mode in it.

  • Problem acquiring data with cFP-AI-100

The vi we are trying to design is very simple, just trying to acquire 2 channels, however the sensors in question have both a high and low output, so I have written the VI to acquire 2 channels, one for the high and one for the low of each sensor, and used the express formula function to obtain the difference between them, multiplied by a number to give us a true pressure.  We do get a signal bouncing around 0, but don't seem to be acquiring anything other then backround noise.
I've attached the VI as this is my first attempt at working with compact fieldpoint, so I just want to see where i've made my mistake
    Attachments:
    FTV Pressure.vi ‏286 KB

What kind of sensor are you connected to?  Why are you wiring the high of a sensor to one channel and the low to another channel?  The cFP-AI-100 uses single ended inputs relative to a common ground.  If you don't tie one side of the signal to Common, the single lead is going to have a floating voltage level.  The channels are isolated from each other so there is no voltage reference from one lead to the other.

  • Do IMAQ Cast Image or IMAQ Linear averages give different results when using different computers that are running under Windows XP ?

    Hello
I'm currently developping an image processing algorithm using Labview 7.1 and the associated IMAQ Vision tools. After several tests, I found a weird result. Indeed, I put the labview algorithm - including the IMAQ VI on the library to get sure that I use all the time the same VI - on my memory stick and used it on two different computers. I tested the same picture (still in my memory stick) and had two very different results.
After several hours trying to understand why, I found that there were a difference between the results given by both computers at the very begining of the algorithm. Indeed, I used a JPEG file.
To open it, I first create an Image with IMAQ Create (U8). Then, I open it.
Then in my first sub-VI, I use IMAQ Cast Image to be sure that the picture is a U8 grayscale picture.
Right after that, I use the IMAQ Linear Averages. The results of this VI are different on the two computers.
I tried several time on the same picture : one computer always give me the same result but the two computers give me a different result. So there is no random variable on the results.
So my question is : Do IMAQ Cast Image or IMAQ Linear averages give different results when using different computers that are running under Windows XP ?
My bet is on IMAQ Cast Image but I'm not quite sure and I do not undestand why. The labview and IMAQ are the same on both computers.
The difference between the two computer are above :
    Computer 1 :
    Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz with a RAM of 1Go. The processor is an Intel(R).
The OS is windows XP Pro 2002
    Computer 2 :
    Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz with a RAM of 512Mo. The processor is an Intel(R).
The OS is windows XP Pro 2002.
If anybody can help me on this problem, it would be really helpful.
    Regards
    Florence P.

    Hi,
Indeed it's a strange behaviour, could you send me your VI and your JPEG file, (or another file that reproduces) so that I could check this inthere ?
I'll then try to find out what's happening.

  • Flickering problem with live viewing with IMAQ Image Display

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to write a program to do live imaging with Andor camera. I am using some examples from Andor. The images are acquired in sequence and send into IMAQ Image Display and also Intensity Graph. There is minimal flickering issue in the Intensity Graph but there is very bad flickering problem in IMAQ Image Display. Perhaps I misunderstand how to optimize the vision tools. Does anyone know how to overcome this issue? I have attached the code that I am testing. Thanks in advance.

You can use Vision Assistant to test our vision functions. Vision Assistant is really meant to prototype - it does not have all teh functionality of Vision Development Module and is not as flexible as we don't allow you access to all the settings for every function.
I recommend starting in Vision Assistant and then porting over to LabVIEW or C (whatever you are most comfortable with)...this is built-in functionality. There is nothing wrong with using Vision Assistant to do live imaging, just that you run into limitations and you will only be able to use this code on computers that have Vision Assistant.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to: Acquire an Image without IMAQ ?

It's possible to acquire an image with a GigE Camera in a labwindows project without the 'IMAQ' Vision Acquisition Software ?
I'm trying to make it with the include functions on "genicam.fp" module, but I don't know exactly how do it.
    Thanks

    1. So I presume that you do not have the Vision Development Module, or wish to deploy without a Vision Run-Time Licence. These both include IMAQdx as well as the vision software.
Yes, I have one license for the Vision Development Module, and  for many commercial projects, I use it ... but the problem is that I need to develop a non-commercial project and can't assume the cost for a new license.
    2. Most GigE camera suppliers provide an SDK that will allow you to access the camera. I suggest you go to your camera suppler's website. The cameras from NI are made by Basler, and their drivers and SDK's are here: http://www.baslerweb.com/Support_SW_Downloads-18498.html
Yes, my project is with a Basler Cam and  I already installed the Pulon SDK software.
    3. I have just done this myself with the Micro-Epsilon ScanControl laser line scanner. This uses a GigE interface; and there was suggestion in the Micro-Epsilon documentation that I could use IMAQdx and the NI vision tools. In fact it seemed easier to use the Micro-Epsilon DLL, so for this application I am not using NI-Vision or IMAQdx. I should note that while the Vision Run-Time licence is a pain, it is MUCH cheaper than anyone else's.
I think the same, I finished the project with a commercial NI license, but in this moment I study the possibility of develop it with a non commercial license for the cause described in point 1 (economic)
    4. The alternative is to Google "open source gige camera sdk" This quickly turns up  https://wiki.gnome.org/Aravis This states "Aravis has been tested successfuly with Basler, AlliedVision, Smartek and Dalsa cameras. Please see the Cameras page". But you did Google before posting, didn't you?
This option did not know, now I will.
    Thanks for all.
PD: With the libraries of bassler for CVI Labwindows,  I got open and close the camera, the problem that I dont know exactly what function should I use for a simple capture and happen several errors.
