Problems related to SQL application migration from 6.5 to 7.0

we have developed our application with D2K as the front end and MS-SQL6.5 server as the database. We are trying to migrate the application to MS-SQL7.0 server as the database.
The following are the limitations we are facing
1) It has been seen that whenever an Insert statement is executed against a table, the table is getting locked and it is not possible to execute subsequent DML statements until the insert lock on the table has been released.
2) Whenever a particular row is selected, then that row is getting locked and it is not able to select the same row again.
From these two observations, we came to a conclusion that in SQLSERVER 6.5, process-id will be assigned for a Batch and the LOCK will be created for the batch and hence two users cannot simultaneously commit the transaction and in SQLSERVER 7.0 each DML Statement in a Batch is given a process-id and the LOCK will be created for each DML Statement, the LOCK will be released only when a commit statement is issued. So the DML Statements which refer to the table that has been locked will be in a deadlock situation. That is the reason why the system is getting hanged.
please post us with a possible solution for the above situation at the earliest.

Krish,
I would think since your question is more related to SQL Server instead of the Oracle products you're using, that you might be better off to search Microsoft's Knowledgebase.

  • Difference in behavior of sql and pl/sql after migrating from 9i to 11g

    after migrating our database from oracle 9i to oracle11g, the developpers are worry that the behavior of the queries and pl/sql procedures/functions will change
    example :
    in 9i, select salary,count(*) from emp group by salary, it will display the rows sorted by salary
    in 11gi, select salary,count(*) from emp group by salary, it will display the rows not sorted by default, we have to add the clause order by salary.
    somebody could give the list of other difference in behavior (SQL and PL/SQL) agter migrating from 9i to 11g
    Thanks a lot.

    Tell your developers: garbage in - garbage out. In relational databases only ORDER BY ensures row order. If your developers relied on GROUP BY implemented by SORT and therefore returning ordered rows they had to realize code they wrote is Oracle release dependent and sooner or later code would require changes. And that "sooner or later" is now reality. In newer versions ORACLE can do GROUP BY via SORT or via HASH. And if it is done via HASH - don't expect ordered results. So tell your developers "payback time".

  • Problem with some queries after migration from MS Access

    Hi everyone!
    We've just finished a migration from a MS Access database and we notice some errors when running some queries like :
    Query1:
    SELECT A.field1, A.field2, B.field1 as FieldTmp
    FROM A,B
    where (B.field1 <=10);
    Query2:
    SELECT Query1.field1, Query1.field2, Query1.FieldTmp
    FROM Query1 LEFT JOIN Table3
    ON (Table3.field1 = Query1.Field2) AND
    (Table3.field5 = Query1.FieldTmp)
    WHERE ((Table3.field5) Is Null)
    ORDER BY Query1.field1, Query1.FieldTmp;
    The Query1 runs as expected, but when I try to run the Query2 I got a ORA-00904 error message. If I remove the (Table3.field5 = Query1.FieldTmp) statement or modify to compare with another field (as instance, field2) everything goes fine.
    If I modify the first query to a make-table query, the Query2 request runs as desired too.
    Is there anything that we can do to keep the queries statement as it is when using the MS Access DB?
    Thanks in advance,
    Elaine Viel Denadai

    Hi Turloch! Thanks for your help!
    Those SQL Statements were extracted from the MS Access application that we will continue to use to access the data , now on an Oracle Database.
    I don't know what I can do to make this kind of statements works as it is on Access database. The first query, that I called Query1 works fine on Oracle, I just mentioned it because the 2nd Query , named Query2, use it.
    I'm not able to understand why when I change the 1st. query to a "make-table" query the Query2 works as desired, but if I keep the Query1 and Query2 as it is on the MS Access Application I got the ODBC error message and the ORA-00904 error message , related (I think!) to the FieldTmp field used on the LEFT JOIN statement (AND).
    As I told before, if I change the AND clause to compare to another field, as instance, field1 :
    FROM Query1 LEFT JOIN Table3
    ON (Table3.field1=Query1.Field2) AND
    (Table3.field5 = Query1.Field1)
    it works.
    Please, is there anything that I can do to keep the MS Access Application unchanged?
    Oracle = 8.1.6
    Oracle ODBC Driver = 8.1.6.4
    Oracle Migration Workbench = 1.3.1

  • SQL Devloper Migration from SQL SerProcedurs created as Functions in Oracle

    Hi All,
    This is the first time I am using SQL Deveoper to migrate SQL Server database to Oracle.
    I have SQL Developer 3 and I did migration from SQL Sever 2008 to Oracle 10g using online migration.
    Everything was done perfectly, but there are some extra tables created in Oracle which are not present in SQL Server database.
    And also I observed lot of programs which are stored procedures in SQL Server are converted as functions in Oracle.
    Does someone knows how to fix this problem.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    A SQL*Server stored procedure can be converted to an Oracle function depending on how it is written and what it is doing. In the documentation -
    Oracle® SQL Developer
    Supplementary Information for Microsoft SQL Server and
    Sybase Adaptive Server Migrations
    In Chapter 3 in the section -
    3.4.2 Function
    It says under Table 3-6 -
    In Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase
    Adaptive Server, you can convert a stored
    procedure to a function in Oracle because
    the stored procedure in Microsoft SQL
    Server or Sybase Adaptive Server can
    RETURN an integer value to the calling
    routine using a RETURN statement. A
    stored procedure returns a status value to
    the calling routine even in the absence of
    a RETURN statement. The returned status
    is equal to ZERO if the procedure
    execution is successful or NON-ZERO if
    the procedure fails for some reason. The
    RETURN statement can return only
    integer values
    And what tables do you see in oracle that are not there in SQL*Server ? Some tables are created as part of the migration as they are needed to have the same functionality as in SQL*Server.
    Does your migrated Oracle database work in the same way as the SQL*Server database ? If not, then please give use specific examples and we can follow up.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Sql server migration from 2005 to 2012 (110)

    hi, experts,
    the database of  .net web form application (Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.1025  ) that I am responsible will be migrated to sql server 2012 (110).
    the .net webform use the functions from System.Data.SqlClient. should be ado.net
    e.g.
    public static DataSet LoadByID(int id)
    SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection();
    DataSet ds = new DataSet();
    try
    conn.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["connection_string"].ToString();
    conn.Open();
    SqlParameter[] aryParams = new SqlParameter[1];
    aryParams[0] = new SqlParameter("@ID", SqlDbType.Int);
    aryParams[0].Value = id;
    SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("a_store_procedure_name", conn);
    cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    cmd.Parameters.AddRange(aryParams);
    SqlDataAdapter sqlAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd);
    sqlAdapter.Fill(ds);
    catch (Exception ex)
    throw ex;
    finally
    if (conn.State == ConnectionState.Open)
    conn.Close();
    return ds;
    I cloned the database from 2005, restore into 2012 and change the compatibility level to 110 of cloned database.
    I am doing tests on the sql server 2012 from the web application user interface. (changed connection string to new 2012 db)
    I found that I always hit this error
    any configuration for whole web form application?
    Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
    Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
    Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
    Source Error:
    delaynomore.

    Hi delaynomore,
    According to your description, you fail to execute the function with timeout error after migration to SQL Server 2012. Based on my research, the issue could be due to the long running tasks or uncommitted transactions.
    To troubleshoot the issue, besides Olaf's suggestion to check the connection to SQL Server 2012 instance and the stored procedure using SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS) manually, you could also follow the methods below.
    1. Execute that procedure manually using SSMS and check if it takes a very long time to execute and return. For example, there could be millions of rows being updated. If it takes a long time, you can adjust the CommandTimeout accordingly.
    2. Execute the following statement in SSMS to check if there are any uncommitted transactions: dbcc opentran ('yourDatabaseName'). If there are any uncommitted transactions, please change the  stored procedure accordingly to commit the transactions.
    For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • Deploying ear application - migrating from OC4j to Weblogic

    I am trying to migrate application from OC4J to weblogic server. Apart from usual differences in descriptors, structure of EAR etc. I came across unusual error:
    "both the remote home and remote component interface must be specified. Currently, only one of them is specified"
    It is about deploying session bean. Usual EJB3 stateless session bean with local and remote interface, deployed without any problem on OC4J and JBoss. Of course, I know home interfaces are something to do with EJB 2.1, but this is EJB3 application and, I guess, Weblogic has full support for it. Does it? :)
    Anyway, is there workaround? Or am I missing something? I don't have to tell you what problems we will be facing if I have to restructure whole application with dozens and hundreds of session beans.
    Thanks a lot!

    OK. I just want to make sure that there are no problems with the deployment descriptors.
    To pin point the problem do the following in JDeveloper:
    1. Create a simple EJB 3.0 session bean
    2. On that session bean create a Sample Java Client.
    3. Run the Session Bean
    4. Run the Client
    5. If both are running fine, compare the deployment descriptors from the sample and your real application.

  • Problem with method action after migrating from TP2 to TP4

    Hi,
    we are migrating our application (ADF Faces, ADF BC) from TP2 to TP4. We have encountered several problems.
    The biggest that we could not solve is as following:
    In our View Object's RowImpl.java classes we have method void refreshLOVAccessorQueries(). In a number of View Objects that method is placed in client interface. In pageDefs of jspx pages that are bound to that View Objects we have method action like
    <methodAction IterBinding="TeeCronTtVOIterator"
    id="refreshLOVAccessorQueriesCron"
    InstanceName="bindings.TeeCronTtVOIterator.currentRow"
    DataControl="TradingAppModuleDataControl"
    RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="invokeMethod"
    MethodName="refreshLOVAccessorQueries"
    IsViewObjectMethod="false" IsLocalObjectReference="true"/>
    and invoke action like
    <invokeAction id="refreshCronLOVs" Binds="refreshLOVAccessorQueriesCron"
    Refresh="prepareModel"
    RefreshCondition="#{!requestContext.postback and empty bindings.exceptionList}"/>
    When we are accessing such a jspx page the application rases error:
    "Method bindings.TeeCronTtVOIterator.currentRow.refreshLOVAccessorQueries() not supported "
    In TP2 everything worked fine. Now in TP4 for some VO that refresh is OK and for others just mentioned error is thrown. Confusing is that all View Objects and their java classes are created in the same manner and they are almost identical, and this counts for pageDefs too.
    What could be the reason of all this?
    Second thing is that in adfc-config.xml in backing bean defs we have managed-property like:
    <managed-bean>
    <managed-bean-name>regionBacking</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>app.view.backing.RegionBacking</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>bindings</property-name>
    <value>#{bindings}</value>
    </managed-property>
    </managed-bean>
    JDeveloper warn us about that with: ' EL token bindings" is unknown '. Why is that? It looks that everything connected with that managed property works fine.
    Another problem is not severe but unpleasant
    After migration to TP4 nothing (not one element) is visible (shown) in the design view.
    The structure of the pages is similar as in the StoreFrontDemo and it shows just fine in TP2.
    Thanks!!!

    Thanks Frank,
    but working from beginning is to much work so, we have solved it in another way.
    Regard to first problem we discovered that it is happening only when there is no Rows in iterator for which we are invoking action. In invoke action we have changed refresh property to default value and the problem is solved.
    Second thing is warning that has no other effect so we will ignore it.
    About third problem, when we create new working copy of application in JDeveloper without system11.1..... directory, JDev works fine and all jspx pages are shown in design view. After some work, due to undiscovered reason design view is lost... What could cause this?

  • Problems with custom authentication when migrating from 3.2 to 4.1.1

    Hi,
    we’re about to upgrade our APEX instances to 4.1.1 and to migrate our applications. I encountered some problems with our custom authentication schema.
    1.     Recognize already authenticated sessions: in 3.2 the sentry function could return false as long as the user was not authenticated. Public pages could still be displayed (including the login page). The result of the function apex_custom_auth.is_session_valid returned false until once the sentry function returned true. How can I recognize non authenticated sessions in 4.1.1? I looked for the test the Condition “User is the public user (user has not authenticated)” computes on a page but didn’t found the right one. It’s not what docu states here (comparison with the public user): http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21674/condition001.htm#HTMDB25943. I replaced the test with p_authentication.username = ‘nobody’. It works. But that doesn’t seem to me to be the right way …
    2.     Post_logout lacks session context: the Post Logout Procedure does not receive a session_id and username. Neither the V(‘APP_SESSION’) nor p_authentication.session_id are set. This applies to both plugin authentication schemes and non-plugin custom authentication schemes. Is there another way to obtain the logged-out sessions infos or is this a bug?
    See apex.oracle.com for a demo, workspace WS_MW, gast/gast. Can someone please guide me the way?
    Michael

    Hello again,
    there are no replies until now .... I reviewed some posts regarding custom authentication again and did not find any solution for the issues. Found some that worked with APEX 3.2.1 but not with 4.1.1. I can only work around
    1.) in an insecure way, because the non documented (?) user "nobody" can change and all new sessions will be considered authenticated
    2.) in a way, that ends up in implementing the logout from the non apex environment outside the authentication schema or authentication plugin.
    May be I should contact support for at least the second issue because this doesn't work as documented or am I doing something wrong?

    It's likely that something in your weblogic.xml is invalid according to the schema. If you have a tool that can validate XML against a schema, then do that. It should point to the problem. Otherwise, if you show the entire contents of the file here, we might be able to see what the problem is.

  • Application migrated from 11.1.2.3 to 12.1.2.0 fails to run in IntegratedWebLogic

    Hi,
    Can anyone help resolving the following problem.
    We've been developing an ADF application with JDeveloper 11.1.2.3 and it works fine when run both with its IntegratedWebLogic or when deployed to a standalone Glassfish server.
    We want to switch to JDeveloper 12.1.2.0. and use new UI components.
    We are able to successfully open the application in JDeveloper 12c -  the migration logs say it was successfully converted, all projects, pages, task flows, classes open and can be edited just fine. However the application fails to run with IntegratedWebLogic.
    Application is using modules included via ADF shared libraries:
    CommonUI.jar and  CommonModel.jar -> included in ApplicationModule1 and ApplicationModule2.
    Both ApplicationModule1 and ApplicationModule2 work fine when tested with IntegratedWebLogic.
    They are in turn included in the MasterApplication as ApplicationModule1.jar and ApplicationModule2.jar.
    However the MasterApplication (SLABAccountMaster) fails to run. It gets deployed, but there is an exception when accessing the first page: The UIViewRoot is null. Fatal exception during PhaseId: RESTORE_VIEW 1.
    I've posted a fragment of the logs below. I can include all of it - but it's huge.

  • Application migration from 10.1.2 to 10.1.3.4

    Hi,
    In migrating our application from JDeveloper 10.1.2 to 10.1.3.4, we are experiencing an issue on one of the pages. The page contains First, Prev, Next, Last and All pagination buttons where the default range size is 10. If the user clicks the "ALL" button then the range size should be changed to be 500. Unfortunately, the range size continues to be 10 once the "ALL" button is clicked. The application is currently using Struts and the stuts-config.xml file was migrated to 10.1.3.4. I have been unable to find anything under Forums or through Google, so any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    TJ

  • Essbase and planning applications migration from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4

    Hi Masters,
    I have few Hyperion 11.1.2.1 running servers for Essbase and planning applications (Essbase alone applications and planning applications are running into different servers). Now we are planning to upgrade 11.1.2.1 directly to new 11.1.2.4 servers.
    could you guys please suggest me the best way of migrating these applications to 11.1.2.4?
    Thanks a lot,
    Siva

    Hi John,
    Actually we are moving all our existing servers to some new data center. the plan is like installing 124 in the new server in the new data center and migrate the existing 121 applications to the 124 servers.
    So is there a best way to migrate like i said above? or do we need to install 121 in the new server 1st and migrate the applications from existing 121 servers, then apply maintenance release of 124 would be best way?
    Thanks,
    siva

    We need to export our Final Cut projects to different H.264 MP4 sizes. They are 1280x720, 640x360 and 920x517. Unfortunately we didn't find a way to set a preset to 920x518. What can we do to get that work? Thanks in advance for every hint. Heidi
