Problems with NVL in sql plus

Hello.
I get error message when i use NVL function in sql statement.
Example:
select something from table1, table2
where table1.id = table2.t1_id
and NVL(table1.temp,1)
I get:ORA-00920: invalid relational operator

Hi,
WHERE clause should contain relational expressions alone.
not like C,0 is not equal to 'false' in oracle.
your query is equal to the following query....
SQL> select * from sample1 where 1;
select * from sample1 where 1
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00920: invalid relational operator

    *Problems with Creative Zen V plus software Dear friends,

    I get this following error:
    "CTIntrfu.dll can not be installed"

    I'm using "Windows XP 2002 home edition - serivce pack 2"

    At the moment my PC doen't recognize the Zen V
    Sorry for my english... It's not my language.

    Hey Guys,Here is a link to instructions on how How to obtain and to install USB 2.0 drivers in Windows XP Service Pack . http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q329632?Win2000 and later have the capability to support USB 2.0, but USB 2.0 was released after XP was release, so there weren't any drivers installed before Windows XP service pack 2. Make sure you've installed all your windows updates including service pack 2. You can check if you have SP2 by right-clicking on my computer and choosing "properties", it will say on the general tab. Also the way to tell if you have USB 2.0 drivers installed is to right-click on my choose "Manage", then choose "device manager" look down to "uni'versal serial Bus controllers" and click on the + . This will expand the USB devices. Look for the word "enchanced" (USB enhanced host controller). If you see it, then you have USB 2.0 support. If not, use the link above and get the drivers. Hope this helps!?JT

  • What is the problem with native dynamic sql when counting rows in all table

    what is the problem with native dynamic sql when counting rows in all table?Giving an error "table or view does not exist". Thanks.
    DECLARE
    v_sql_string varchar2(1000);
    v_no_of_rows number;
    BEGIN
    for i in ( select table_name from all_tables )
    loop
    v_sql_string := ' select count(1) from ' || i.table_name;
    dbms_output.put_line( v_sql_string );
    --execute immediate v_sql_string into v_no_of_rows;
    end loop;
    END;

    Usually your problem can be described with 'Who cares'. I mean, for what reason do you do this? I doubt that there's a business need to get 100 % accurate answers for this. Normally such things are used to get a picture about the growth of data.
    Personally I would prefer to have up-to-date statistics for all tables and just query the number of rows from there. Sufficient for me in < 99 % of all cases.

  • Problem logging on to SQl *Plus

    Hi
    I have installed Oracle 8i Personal Edition Release 8.1.7 on my computer where I have the operating system Windows 98. When I am trying to log on to the database through SQL*Plus, I get the following message: "ORA-12541: TNS: no bugging/listener " (I get the message in Swedish so I hope I have translated it correct in English)
    kindly help me out to resolve this problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Anna

    From the error messages documentation:
    Cause: The connection request could not be completed because the listener is not running.
    Action: Ensure that the supplied destination address matches one of the addresses used by the listener. Compare the TNSNAMES.ORA entry with the appropriate LISTENER.ORA file (or TNSNAV.ORA if the connection is to go by way of an Interchange). Start the listener on the remote machine.

  • Problem with parameter and sql query

    I've a problem with te query of my report. The query is:
    SELECT [DESCRIPTN]
          ,[LOGTIME]
          ,[STATUS]
          ,[CARDNO]
          ,[LOGDATE]
    FROM [Granta5P0].[dbo].[TIMELOG32]
    where cardno in ({?cardNo})
    the parameter as multiple values checked so I can query for more than one card.
    If i put just one parameter everything works fine but when I put 2 or more I have his error
    [http://www.megagaleria.com/pictures/Pic_10074_25.jpg]
    I realized that the field as no ' delimiting the parameters, I have a function that already does it but I don't know how to put it in my sql command.
    If anyone can help I appreciate

    Yes, because your parameter is only looking for one card.
    where cardno in ({?cardNo})
    Will you only be creating querys on two cards or less ?
    Are you trying to create an Array?
    If two or less you could
    where cardno = ({?cardNo}) or cardno = ({?cardNo2})

  • Problems with java and SQL

    Hi all. Not sure if I should ask this here or in an SQL forum. Im trying to manipulate an access database through java via the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver. The program compiles ok but when I try to execute it I get an error. According to the error there is a syntax problem in my SQL create table statement but it doesnt tell what the problem is and Ive looked over the create statement and cant find anything wrong with it. There is, however, an error code from the driver but I have no way of referencing it. Anyone here know why otherwise normal SQL code would cause a syntax error with java or how I can track the error to get a hint at whats going wrong? Here is the code and the error:

  • Problem with DBMS_OUTPUT and SQL statment with a function

    I am using SQL Developer version 3.0.04 and I have a function that has a dbms_output statment in it. I am running the following SQL to select the output of that statment.
    select A.A_FUCTION('TEST') from dual;
    The output works fine but the dbms_output line does not show in the dbms_output window. I turned on the output window etc. and i can get the select to print out the output if i wrap it in a declare begin end wrapper... and then change the query to insert the return value into variable.
    just wondering if there is way to get the dbms_output to flush out with just an SQL statment instead of in a begin end wrapper etc.

    just wondering if there is way to get the dbms_output to flush out with just an SQL statment instead of in a begin end wrapper etc.works fine in sql*plus, so I guess it must be a preference or sth. in sql*developer:

  • Database not updating with changes from SQL*plus

    I’m having some issues with updating my database. I want to delete some rows in a table that has 323 records, so I run the SQL in SQL*Plus. It tells me that I’ve deleted 222 rows. I then get a count of the number of rows in the table, and it tells me 101. But if I open another SQL*Plus window and get a row count, the original count (323) is what it says. The enterprise manager also tells me 323 records are in that table. Am I missing something here?

    Aimee-
    Until you 'commit' from the session you have issued the 'delete' statement, the other sessions will not be able to see the changes. In other words, the other sessions are getting you a read consistent view of the data.

  • Strange problem with executing PL/SQL procedure from sqlplus.

    Hello,
    basicly, I'm strugling with executing a procedure written in PL/SQL from sqlplus.
    It's all because I convert a data in procedure by other function.
    SELECT partition_name
    INTO strpartition
    FROM user_tab_partitions
    WHERE table_name = tablename_in
    and substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)) = (SELECT F_CONVERT_DATE(tablename_in,p_date) from dual);
    /tablename_in and p_date are input parameters/
    Function F_CONVERT_DATE looks more less like :
    select
    TO_CHAR(TRUNC(NEXT_DAY(ADD_MONTHS(substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)), -3), 'MONDAY')-7), 'YYYYMMDD')
    END
    AS p_date
    INTO v_okr
    FROM user_tab_partitions
    where substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)) = p_date;
    Well, the thing is that procedure is executable from TOAD without any errors !! But when I try to execute it straight from sqlplus it returns:
    ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
    ORA-06512: at "F_CONVERT_DATE", line 13
    ORA-06512: at "NAME_OF_PROCEDURE", line 17
    Tip: When I don't use functions ADD_MONTHS, NEXT_DAY and TO_CHAR in function F_CONVERT_DATE sqlplus can execute it. But only when I use them it returns an error.
    Anybody has a clue how to solve it?
    Regards !

    Hi, Nodex,
    Avoid implicit conversions.
    For example:
    TO_CHAR(TRUNC(NEXT_DAY(ADD_MONTHS(substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)), -3), 'MONDAY')-7), 'YYYYMMDD')ADD_MONTHS expects a DATE as its first argument.
    SUBSTR returns a VARCHAR2, so you're calling ADD_MONTHS with a VARCHAR2 where it expects a DATE.
    For good or ill, the system tries to avoid raising an error in this case by implicitly converting the VARCHAR2 to a DATE. Exactly how it does that depends on
    (a) the tool you are using (SQL*Plus or Toad, for example),
    (b) the version (Oracle 10 behaved quite different form Oracle 9),
    (c) environmental settings (such as NLS_DATE_FORMAT), which in turn may depend on initialization parameneters, and
    (d) who knows what else.
    When you have to convert, do so explicitly.
    You can convert a VARCHAR2 to a DATE using TO_DATE, like this:
    TO_CHAR ( TRUNC ( NEXT_DAY ( ADD_MONTHS ( TO_DATE ( SUBSTR ( partition_name
                                                       , -8
                                          , LENGTH (partition_name)
                                     , 'YYYYMMDD'     -- or whatever
                             , -3
                      , 'MONDAY'
              - 7
         , 'YYYYMMDD'
         )

  • 2 'problems' with the K8N Diamond Plus

    Hi there.
    I just bought a K8N Diamond Plus and I'm having some troubles installing my system in conjunction to my Decklink Extreme PCI-E ( http://www.decklink.com/products/sd/ ).
    Here's my configuration:
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 X2 4400+
    ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA
    Decklink Extreme PCI-E
    2GB  RAM ( 2 x 1gb) Kingston
    OCZ-520 12U Modstream Power Supply
    plus 6 HD's (7200rpm) and 1 DVD-+RW
    The problem is, when I try to initialize the system with the Decklink, which it's a PCI-E 1x, it just don't boot. Neither putting the Decklink on the 1x, nor in the 4x slot and nor in the 16x.
    The Decklink is working just fine in another system and doesn't seem to be a problem with this card.
    I wondered if there's any limitation in the K8N Diamond Plus with working with the ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA plus the Decklink.

    The other thig is that when I take off the Decklink, the system boots normaly but a message appears while booting: "Not enough space to copy PCI option ROM 00:13:00".
    And I don't have a clue about what's going on.
    =======================
    Please enlighten me with this questions if possible.
    Thank you very much.
    Greets.

    Remove the battery away for 10 minutes, clear CMOS, start the system to load setup/optimized defauts in bios setup. After that, disable all onboard items in bios setup that you won't to use.  Save and exit.
    Plug ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA card,  and start your system to check if there is the error message. If there is, borrow another brand VGA card to do a test.
    Besides, update your MB bios and driver version to the latest one.

  • Report Problems with nvl...

    Hi,
    I have a problem with a report in my application.
    On the page, there are two items, a submit button and a report.
    I intend to use this to search the report for the two attributs, which are in the items.
    The report should show the result, even if no item or only one item is filled...
    For this my idea is to use nvl expressions in the where clause like this:
    WHERE attribut1 = NVL(:P1_ITEM_ATTRIBUT1, attribut1)
    AND attribut2 = NVL(:P1_ITEM_ATTRIBUT2, attribut2)
    But the problem is, that when only the second item(attribut2) is filled, all data of the table appears, because the first item(attribut1) is empty....
    Does anybody have an idea, how to solve that?
    I hope you understand my problem!
    Thank you,
    Tim

    Tim,
    Maybe something like this would work for you:
    WHERE (attribut1 = :P1_ITEM_ATTRIBUT1 or :P1_ITEM_ATTRIBUT1 is Null)
      AND (attribut2 = :P1_ITEM_ATTRIBUT2 or :P1_ITEM_ATTRIBUT2 is Null)Doug

    Well then I guess you can't do that.
    This looks like a bug in org.jdesktop.dataset.provider.sql.SQLCommand getUpdateStatement
    So you'll have to talk to them about what it is doing. I can only guess from the stack trace that it is creating a statement and binding the existing values to it but that it is not set up to deal with nulls.
    So on second thought it may not be a bug but more of a thing that is impossible to do with that implementation. Either way you'll have to look at the org.jdesktop.dataset.provider.sql.SQLCommand getUpdateStatement code or providers of said code for answers.
