Problems with user SYS and SYSTEM
Hi,
I installed 9i on the Linux Suse 7.2, it's runing OK. But when I try to connect with user SYSTEM or SYS as SYSDBA/SYSOPER I receive message "ORA-01031: Insufficient Privileges".
Please, what do I get this privileges SYSDBA AND SYSOPER?
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Check the to see if the user is a member of the dba group.
The O/S user you are using needs to be a member of the dba group in /etc/group.

Problems with User names and Password
For some reason iWeb does not want to accept my user name and password: I enter it in the programm, update the whole website (which by the way didn´t occur incrementally), and then when I try to call up the page it won´t let me in - instead I have to give in the password and the user name over and over again with the result of the page being loaded just a "little" bit more each time but nothing happening!
Please help!

Problem with showing battery and system information in openbox
I wanted to install docks( in open box wm ) which give me battery life information and some thing like that but when I run them terminal give me this error :
CPU frequency scaling NOT available
No power management subsystem detected
No power management support...
what should I do
Last edited by sarsanaee (2013-08-08 15:14:42)well.. dockapps are veery old fashioned way to do that. If you look at wmpower app on that site you see it hasn't been updated for nearly five years, so i'm not surprised if it's not working on a modern system.
many people use conky to display power status on openbox, so you might want to look into that..
you can add power applet to various panels (xfce-panel, gnome-panel etc.) and use the panel with your openbox session
you could also code/google for openbox pipe menu script that does what you need
if none of those options work for you i found this git repository that seems to be still maintaied that holds wmpower and some other dockapps: http://repo.or.cz/w/dockapps.git
unfortunately couldn't find PKGBUILD for that on AUR...

Problem accessing SQL Developer with user sys
Hi Experts;
I'm working with Oracle 10G, in Solaris 10, The DB apparently is working properly, but I can not access the DB thru SQL Developer. When I try to acccess with user sys, and I enter de password, in oracle role I select sysdba, when I choose connect I get this error message:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
However, I can connect with other user without any problem.
I was connecting directly in the server, with sqlplus /as sysdba and I changed the password for user sys, but still the problem continues.
What is wrong with this. I got the same problem if try to connect thru OEM.
Thanks and regards
Al
Edited by: user12048358 on Jul 8, 2011 12:02 PMHi Buntoro;
Thank you for answer.
First, I'm completely sure I'm using the correct password, to be sure I changed the password thru sqlplus.
I'm using tns connection, btw, with the same connection, I can connect, but with other user.
I was trying again, however, with the same results previous explained.
But also I have the same problen when I tried to connect to OEM, and I was trying to stop the dbconsole, and found this:
export ORACLE_SID=YAWIDBLAB
emctl status dbconsole
OC4J Configuration issue. /opt/oracle/102/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_yawi-db-lab01_YAWIBLAB not found.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g is running.
Logs are generated in directory /opt/oracle/102/yawi-db-lab01_YAWIDBLA/sysman/log
If I type export ORACLE_SID=YAWIDBLA and then sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect /as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
But, when I connect settiong the SID in this way:
export ORACLE_SID=YAWIDBLAB
sqlplus /nolog

Apparently, there is problem with the tnsnames. When I see the tnsnames in SQL DEVELOPER I see this: YAWIDBLA
So, here is the tnsname, in order you have a better idea, what I have.
YAWIDBLA =
(DESCRIPTION =

(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = YAWIDBLAB)
Is the first time I see this kind of problem.
Have an idea of what's happening;

2. Is locking the SYS user a standard practise ? If so, why ?
SYS and SYSTEM are default users, created with the creation of the database. Although they have much power - as they are granted the DBA role - they're still ordinary users. Because SYS owns the data dictionary, (s)he is considered a bit more special than SYSTEM. But SYS has the SYSDBA privilege which SYSTEM doesn't. This makes it possible for SYS to become a very very powerful user. This is the case when (s)he connects as sys/password as SYSDBA or / as sysdba. The as sysdba phrase is a request to aqcuire the privileges associated wht the single SYSDBA system privileges (see here).

Dear all,
We have 10.2.0.4 on solaris 10.
Currently we had I.T audit on our environment and auditor commented to lock sys and system user and use one user with any name (not oracle generic name) and grant him sys and system privilege and to use this user for admin purposes. is this right ?.. is this recommended ?
Please adviseHello,
I think it's not a right way to lock SYS.
More over, if you connect as OS Administrator (root for Unix/linux) on the server and use
OS Authentification then, you can connect on SYS AS SYSDBA anyway.
So, in fact, it's not possible to lock out SYS even if you execute the following:
ALTER USER SYS ACCOUNT LOCK;If you want to prevent access on SYS you should set a complex and long password and
apply the same rule for the Administrator / root OS user.
These passwords must be known by very few and well - identified people and written nowhere
(in any files or scripts).
More over, you should limit DBA roles to SYS and SYSTEM and remove this powerful Role
from other Oracle Users.
Then, you may enable session AUDIT so as to control the connexion on the database and,
create a LOGON TRIGGER so as to check the login, workstation, program of the end users
who connect to the database.
On 10g, EM DBConsole shows an alert everytime a User is connected with SYS.
Please, find enclosed, an interesting document written by Pete Finigan on this topic:

Hope this help.

I have upgraded Apple Aperture from version 2 to version 3 and I'm having a problem with the "Highlights and Shadows" adjustment. According to the user's manual, I should have access to an advanced disclosure triangle which would allow me to adjust mid contrast, colour, radius, high tonal width and low tonal width.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how to access this advanced section, I'd be most grateful.Hi David-
The advanced adjustments in the Highlights & Shadows tool were combined into the "Mid Contrast" slider in Aperture 3.3 and later. If you have any images in your library that were processed in a version of Aperture before 3.3, there will be an Upgrade button in the Highlights & Shadows tool in the upper right, and the controls you asked about under the Advanced section. Clicking the Upgrade button will re-render the photo using the new version of Highlights & Shadows, and the Advanced section will be replaced with the new Mid Contrast slider. With the new version from 3.3 you probably don't need the Advanced slider, but if you want to use the older version you can download it from this page:

Thx.Have you used the "Role" drop-down to "SYSDBA"? - if not, you get the ORA-01017 error.

Difference between SYS and SYSTEM user
Hi,
Well, one of my colleagues have asked me the difference between SYS and SYSTEM user .. Normally these are the users which will be under the monitoring of the DBA .. So, how could I know the difference between these two users ..
Please assist me
RegardsSYS is the owner of the database and the owner of the data dictionary.
The objects belonging to SYS cannot be exported. But SYS has the SYSDBA privilege which SYSTEM doesn't.
SYSTEM is a privileged administration user, and typically owns Oracle provided tables other than the dictionary.
SYSDBA is not a role, it is a privilege. You'll find it in system_privilege_map, not in dba_roles. -
Starting up a database when I forgot the sys and system password
Hi,
I want to startup up a database from Oracle Entreprise Manager. I forgot the sys and system password.
If I give the command:
orapwd file=orapwSDB01 password=test entries=100
can I give the password "test" to sys and then to connect with sys with password test as sysdba, and then to startup the database? Are any problems with this command?
Thank you,
MihaelaHi,
I have not done this myself, but YES, according to the documentation, thats correct.
ORAPWD FILE=mypwdfile PASSWORD=syspass ENTRIES=10
will set the password of SYS to syspass. And you can use the same further.
But here, you should be in oracle user or the user which owns the Oracle installation.
Also, OS authentication is always supperior than any other authentication.
