Process Chain/OS Command cp problem

Hello,
I am trying to execute a command similar to the following in an OS command in a process chain:
cp /path/filename*.txt /path/filenamexxx.txt
I know it's not a permissions problem.
This is the error message from the Process Chain Maintenance Log View:
cp: cannot access /path/filename*.txt: No such file or directory
External program terminated with exit code 1
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gary,
Is this file(cp /path/filename*.txt /path/filenamexxx.txt) avaialble at perticular path...??
File is in application server or workstation(PC). If file is available in one application server and your Pchain running againest another application server, you may get this error. Plz check.

I'm thinking it is a problem with the *(wildcard). If I take out the *(wildcard) it works flawlessly. It seems like SAP is not correctly interpreting the * character.
The purpose of my doing this is to remove the date text from the end of the file and store it in a different directory without the date text. e.g.
filename08032006.txt copy to different directory as filename.txt
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

hi,
i do not know what process cain maintenace view is but I wonder how this command should work on the commandline correctly:
say you have
filename_1.txt
filename_2.txt
and copy them according to your example to
filename_x.txt
This would be n files copied to one destination file. At best you had the destination overwritten n times and be left with the last source file in the destination file.
Would that make sense? Probably therefore this construct is not supported.

Process chain 'OS COMMAND'

Hi
I would like to use the OS_COMMAND in process chain to rename file to another filename after data loaded from file into the targeted cube. Eg: I would like to delete brand.txt from folder named /interface/.
I would like to create the command name via tcode SM49. However, I did not know the command to enter in fields 'Operating system command' and 'Parameters for operating system command'. Can anyone please guide me?

You can find System OS command process type in Other Processes section of RSPC.here you can add the same in your process chains and fulfill your requirement.

Info Spoke - Process Chain - OS Command usage help

I am new to BW. My requirement is to extract the master data off of BW data targets on a weekly basis and ftp the files onto a different server.
To meet this requirement, I am planning to create InfoSpoke(s), put it in a Process chain and using the OS Command ftp the files to different server.
Is this the right way to do it or are there any better ways? If it is, I need help on where to give the target server name, user_id and PSW in the OS Command variant of Process Chain.
Also, is it possible to schedule a Infospoke directly from the scheduler (Auotsys...) and still execute weekly/monthly?

That's correct. You'll define the command under the general services tab in the process chain transaction (It's labeled OS Command and is a silver circle thing with a blue dot in it).
When you drag it into the process chain it will ask for a varient. In the System Command field for this varient is where you'll define the actual command. (little pencil button next to it). At this point you can call a script that does the copy or call an actual command that does the copy.
Might be easier to control with a script that does the work but if you want to call rcp/scp, the os command will be rcp and parameters will be the filename, etc. If it's a script then you'll just enter the name of the script in the os command field.

Process chain Logs are not able to view...

Hi Friends,
 We are facing a typical problem like this... We are loading master data weekly thru process chain.. The problem is dat for 5 weeks back we have kept back ground scheduling dat this chain needs to get run for every week.. So for the first week it runned successfully and for the second and third and fourth week also itz runned successfully..
 But on the fifth week we got the process chained failed for some errors in Process chain.. We analyzed the errors and But yet to be rectified.. So for 6th week it needz to get runned.. But when am going to check the logs of dat process chain..
 It was not showing any logs on the chains which have runned successfully for the past 4 weeks also, which have runned successfully... And I tried it in logs with givng today and yesterday and One week and This month and last month and tried it with free date also... BUt am not able 2 see the logs..
Can anyone help me out from this issue..

Have you tried adding the chain to the RSPCM transaction?
If the chain has run you should be able to see the logs there by selecting the date.

Process Chain Ended with Errors - cause unknown

I have had several instances of process chains stopping for no apparent reason. The stops occur between 2 master data infopackage loads. The last step is green and the next is grey. The PSA table has been updated successfully for the last step. All IDocs are in green status in both systems. The monitor for the last successful step does say "Ended with Errors" although no errors are evident. The process chain starts back up via Repeat at the next (grey) step and continues successfully. There were no system problems or connection interruptions that occurred during the time the process chains failed. There were no changes in the remote user profile.
This exact problem has occurred a half dozen times since our application of ECC Support Packs several months ago and had not occurred before. The infopackages are different each time. Two different process chains have had this problem. I have re-activated and re-scheduled the process chains without solving the problem.
Thanks for any ideas on why this may be occurring or what I can do to prevent it.

The process chain step and the monitor load both are green. The Details tab shows all the processing is green, but the Process Chain itself is red with "Errors Occurred. There have been no runtime dumps.

Hi,
Guys this is basis question but If you have ideas to change server information for Process chains.We are having problems running process chains.Its showing old server info we have done refresh few days back.Need to change server info for all the chains in Mass not one by one its hectic process...
Please advise if anyone came across similar kinda problems..

Hi Srikar,
RSTPRFC creates a destination into the BW-standard-client with the BW-Background user (usually called BWREMOTE or ALEREMOTE).
This destination then is used to activate the chain in the BW-standard client remotely from the client 000.
Please refer to SAP Note 659160 for further details.

Error saving hierarchy in Process Chain

Hi all,
We have BW310c with SP27, and since we have installed the SP23 till 27, we got error in the process chain.
we have a problem to restart a process chain, but the only difference is the value of the INSTANCE equal to SPACE, STATE and ACTUAL_STATE equal to X.
When applying the procedure to initialize the process chain status, I got error that the INSTANCE should not be empty, so, by updating the status via Oracle statement, the process chain still hinging. So, for more than one week, we have a empty entry in log table RSPCPOCESSLOG in the field "INSTANCE". Can you please advise how to solve this issue.
Info error:
The exception 'CX_RSR_X_MESSAGE' was raised but was not caught at any stage in the call hierarchy. Since exceptions represent error situations, and since the system could not react adequately to this error, the current program, 'SAPLRRMS', had to be terminated.

Unable to find DTP from Process chain after SPS14

Hi BI-experts,
After applying SPS14 to our development and our test systems we are experiencing problems with our process chains. The latest problem is that after transporting one process chain (with dtp's) from dev to test the process chain states that the dtp does not exist in active version on test system. In the test system the process chain points to the wrong dtp technical name. The technical name it points to in test system is the techincal name of the DTP in development system. The dtp gets assigned a different name when transported to test, hence the reference to dtp is wrong in test.
I have tried the following:
- Reactivate the dtp on test- No success
- Deleting the dtp from test and transporting it and PC again - No
success
- Reactivating the PC and DTP on dev and transporting it again - No
sucess
Please help.

If anyone else experience this problem I can inform you that implementing note 1147587 solved it.

Failure of OS command in Process Chain

Hi All,
I have OS command in a process chain. Sometimes this process gets failed and sometimes it is completed successfully.
When it fails following message appears in Process Chain Maintenance Log View:
==== Output of System Commands: Repeat # 0 ====
mv: cannot stat `/usr/sap/transBD1/upload/BP1/StockPosition/StockPosition_BNL.txt': No such file or directory
External program terminated with exit code 1

In the process chain, file is first loaded to cube from the specified path. There is no problem in loading, it is completing successfully.
Next, this file is archived from specified path to archived folder by OS Command.
OS Command is:
#!/bin/ksh
FILEDATE=`date +%m%d%y`
mv /usr/sap/transBD1/upload/BP1/StockPosition/StockPosition_BNL.txt /usr/sap/transBD1/upload/BP1/StockPosition/processed/StockPosition_BNL.$FILEDATE
The file is archived successfully in processed folder but OS command process in process chain is getting failed with mentioned error in previous thread.

System command in Process chain

Hello,
I have a system command in the process chain which points to a command file that is supposed to run. My problem is that when I transport the PC, the path on the system command remains same.
I want it to change the path from /md.... in dev to /mq... in QA and /ma... in PROD.
Is there anyway to automate this process? Right now i have to keep track of it and change the system command in each system. I have missed a couple and it creates some problems.

Hello Sam,
One way to solve this is to work this with your UNIX administrator. You can do the following:
1) Create a symbolic link in your dev, qa, and prod which points to the correct directory.
For example, in dev, you can do the following:
link -s <whatever new name here, e.g. target> /md
In QA, you can do the following:
link -s <whatever new name here, e.g. target> /mq
and so on..
2) Instead of using the /md, /mq directories, you can use the symbolic directory instead in your system commands.
e.g. ls -l /target instead of ls -l /md
This might not help you a lot now but it will make things easier in the future because you will know that the symbolic link points to the correct directory of whatever box.

I have a problem in creating a Process Chain(PC).

I have a problem in creating a Process Chain(PC). The PC should run on first 3 business days of the month for six times i,e 6am, 7am,8am, 9am,10am,11am.
For this i have created 3 PC like BD1, BD2, BD3, and i selected the Factory calender provided workday 1, 2 , 3 and time for three chains.
Now should i schedule it for 6times in a day.
I tried creating a new job for one of PC's but i have to change the timings for every month (this is not the proper solution).
Please help me.

Hi Friend,
For the days part, you can create a new factory calendar with first 3 business days of each month only as working days.
Then in the scheduling -> Restrictions; you can mention that Factory Calendar id and select radio button for "Move job to next working day". Schedule the chain as Periodic "Hourly".
Then for the Time part -> You can insert process type "Decision between multiple alternatives" after the start variant.
After you insert this process type you can create a formula in it to check for system time. In the if condition check for system time i.e., whether it is between 6 - 11. If only the system time is between 6 AM to 11 AM only then the decision step would turn to green and go to the successor step in the process chain.
Process chain would be like:
Start variant -> Decision Step -> Rest of the chain.
So in short the factory calendar will take care of which days the chain will run and decision step will take care of the timings.

Problem with delete index of cube in process chain

HI ,i have a problem with my process chain,here on process name as delet index is ther which has been turned to red.when iam going inside of that in Display message iam getting the msg as"Indexes for InfoCube SMS_C06 have been deleted successfully".
since the process is in red next process is not been triggering,but i have to continue the process chain.
can anybody put some light into it.its very urgent........

I ran into the same situation with one of my process chain that is part of a metachain. The process chain has the Delete Index that turned red. But the messages show that the indexes on all the cubes were deleted sucessfully.
As suggested, I did a repeat on the delete index variant, but no luck as it turned red again.
Anyone aware familiar with this issue?

OS command in Process Chain

Hi all,
I'm using the OS Command in a process chain and I have the "Evaluate Output of Command" checked along with It will be repeated" selected. It's looking for a file on the app server and repeating every 3600 seconds for 24 hours. The issue is if the 24 hours goes by and no file is found the process chain continues on to the next Process. I expecting the chain to stop with errors. Is this the correct functionality? If so, any ideas how I can stop the process if the repeat time is exceeded and file not found?

   Try this way. Separate present Process chain into two chains.
   Create an ABAP program to trigger OS Command and an event(EVENT1) on success of finding the file or another event(EVENT2) if file not fround and to repeate the process to find the file.
   Create first chain, and make it event based(EVENT2) and create 2nd chain aldo event based(EVENT1).
activate and schedule both chains event based. trigger the first chain. It will check the file and if it is success ABAP program raise and event(EVENT1) and it will trigger the 2nd chain. or it will raise the event(EVENT2), it will reapete the 1st chain for finding the file.
So here 2nd chain triggers on EVENT, so time limit. And it only excutes if first chain picks the file successfully,

I have the commands for the unix machine, but need to create a Z customer command so it can be executed in a process chain in SAP

You can use ABAP program in the process chain.
I guess there are some OS level commands in ABAP which will allow you to open, close, read , write and move files.
