Process for Annual Reports / Page Updates Etc....

Whats the best way to get the text in a document that is 20+ pages with text and images, like an annual report?
Should I link the whole WORD file?
Make a WORD file for each page?
I want my client to be able to easily make text changes and resend a word doc so there isn't so much back-and-forth going on.
In the past I just pasted the text into frames but I spent 3x the amount of time on it because the customer had so many text changes after layout was done.

Good luck with that approach. I wouldn't even attempt to tell a client "Hey, that's it- you can't make any more changes."
I think it's much easier to reach an understanding with the client before the project begins. I give them an estimate based on a written set of specs, and I make sure they understand that the estimate only covers work done up to the first proof. After that, straight time at the studio rate- same thing if they change the specs once the job has started. It takes as long as it takes, and it costs whatever it costs- it's all up to the client once we get into the end game.

  • Efficient workflow for annual report

    I've been busy last days to make an annual report. The source file was a 100+ page Word document with lot's of tables with different content and sizes, and legal texts with multi level list styles.
    I think I got most out the importing of the Word file and converting all Word styling to the right Indesign styles, but the tables seem to be very time consuming still, as some are just text listings and others contain many numbers in various structures, sub headings and specifically highlighted cells.
    I bet there's a much more efficient workflow for this and I try to find out about it. I'm afraid I couldn't ask the financial people to start working in a XML workflow, Incopy or anything much different from the Word+Excel software they are used to. However I reckon there's a better way they could deliver the content to me, maybe by giving separate excel sheets instead of embedded tables in Word or by using stricter formatting rules?
    Ideally the workflow should also support the flexibility of linked Word/Excel files, so revised input would painlessly be updated into the formatted Indesign document.
    Does anybody has any advice, tips/tricks to make a smarter workflow for such a project?

    FWIW I create a new, separate library for each book.  I assemble the photos to be used in to an album in the main library and then copy it to the book library with the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.
    When I'm done with the book and it's ordered I cull out the photos I didn't use in the book and then archive the book library to another HD, a CD or DVD disk (if small enough to fit).  This way the book is isolated from the day to day use of my main library and any accidental deletions of photos in the book.  If I want to reorder a copy, edited or not,  I know the book is intact.

    You may try a group report on one simple query like:
    Select
    c.account_id, c.officer, to_char(c.protection_effective, 'MM') month
    sum(c.dp_monthly_premium) Commission
    From
    contract c
    Where
    c.status='APPROVED' and .....
    Group by
    c.account_id
    c.officer,
    to_char(c.protection_effective, 'MM')
    break/gropu on account_id, c.officer, to_char(c.protection_effective, 'MM') and total will be automatically calculated by Reports.

  • Background processing for ABAP report with selection screen

    Hi ABAP Gurus,
    I m facing a strange problem in scheduling a background job for my report with a selection screen. I have a variant for the report.
    I scheduled a job, but it seems to be not doing anything though all the system resources are available. The job overview shows "Acive" for the job. The job is neither stopping anything, it is just sitting there In SM50, the status shows "On Hold".
    Any ideas/comments on the problem and how this can be overcome?
    Qucik replies and solutions will be highly appreciated as this is a crucial part for a go-live project.

    Yes. My report has a selection-screen which requires user input. But I have created  a variant for the report and trying to run it in background using this variant. But facing this problem.
    Strange thing is, instead of the usual SM36/SM37 option where we schedule and monitor background jobs, this option does not work for my report.
    But I tried through SE38, and from my selection screen I selected "Schedule background job" and "run immediately" option, and this works. Though I still use SM37 to monitor this background job.
    I have never faced such a situation before.
    Any hints/tips why this happens and how this can be overcome in the future?

    WA Reports are refreshed on the fly.
    You don't have to schedule them like IR or FR reports.
    If users are permitted to access WA reports in read-only mode, just pass-on the URL.

    I am having a requirement where i have to add a haeder1 for page 1 and header2 for rest of all the pages in a report.
    currently we are using Start body and end body tags in RTF.
    Is it possible to use Start body and end body two times, if yes steps to use that or any work around to achieve this.

    You can use a sub-template, in the header, put an "if" statement that tests the first page to display the correct information.

  • Parameter passing issue for HTMLDB report page

    I have created a HTMLDB report based on SQL query in which the where clause column needs to takeup dynamic value each time.
    So I have defined a hidden item on the page PUSERID of Source type "Static Assigment".
    And this variable is used in SQL as

    where employeeid = :PUSERID
    Now when i try to run this report and pass the parameter thru the URL by edititng the URL to have parameter value as
    http://localhost:33492/pls/htmldb/f?p=104:8:8320056215249064505:::::PUSERID:CPRASAD
    This shows the page with no data found...though when i run the query manually it returns the result.
    Select Name

    But why we need to remove the colon?Was it symbolizing that there was no parameter passed initially on URL and later when I was expecting one which was acting as two parametes in case of my url example(one parameter as nothing and another ad PUSERID)

  • Sharing folder/s in iCloud for use with Pages beta etc.

    I know how to share a Pages Document for another iCloud user. No problem. But we want to leave Dropbox & Google Drive behind us and use iCloud.
    We need to share folders with documents. It is not easy to remember to find your shared documents created by your self in your iCloud folders and to have to remember to find the documents shared by my co-workers in the top under "Shared with me".
    How do we share a folder with iCloud Pages (and numbers/keynote) documents when working with the cloud based iWorks programs?

    Thanks for your response to my concern, pvonk.
    If what you're saying is correct, it's very unfortunate. I never know which machine I'm going to be working on next, and I have a lot of documents that are works in progress that I leave open for that very reason.
    So if I leave a doc open on my Mac, then later find myself away from my Mac and in front of my iPad wanting to make further changes, am I just out of luck?
    I thought iCloud was supposed to take this kind of change-tracking and guess work out of the users hands.

    i have to run this program with a variant that i need to update with the values from my FM.
    My problem is tha I am trying to use the regular variants FM as RS_VARIANT_VALUES_TECH_DATA to get the variants
    fields that i have to load or fm RS_CREATE_VARIANT and in the parameter report name i put the HIER report name.
    I keep getting an error that this is not a report. I can put the program hier report name which is a long string,
    but the string name change dynamically between clients.
    I need a way to load the variant of the hier report .

    To set up a new approval rules for expense report follow the steps below;
    1. Go to Application and User Management --> Approval processes --> Highlight Default approval process for Expense Report--> Copy.
    2. Add row--> Add Process Step Name --> Add Work Distribution(Approval non project expense of up to 250) and select work distribution--> add conditions and Save and close.

  • New report page and append front panel image

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a report using the Report Generation toolkit in LabView 6.1 which gets printed to PDFCreator.
    I have 4 front panel images that I am appending to the report, and I would like each image to be on its own page.  I am trying to accomplish this using the New Report Page vi, but it doesn't appear as though it is putting any page breaks in the report, and no errors are being generated.  Do the page breaks that this vi puts in only apply to text?  What is another method that can accomplish putting each image on its own page?  Simply creating and printing 4 reports will not work, since I need the 4 images to be in the same PDF file, and PDFCreator does not support appending to PDF files instead of overwriting.

    According to the Help for "New Report Page.vi" you can append either text or another file to the new page.  Are you creating a standard report?

  • Get report page numbers

    I am generating a test data record in Word with generating report toolkit. On every page I put in a footer text to the left with the date and time.
    (in Labview with "set report footer text").
    I also put in the Word template for the report, page numbers on the bottom RH side. When I run my vi I get the the footer text on the LH side,
    but I loose the page numbers on the RH side. How do I solve this ?

I have tried this 17 times and it won't work. My iTunes is completely up to date. I have made sure that my connection is fine and I have tried turning my firewall off with no avail. This has happened to me before but usually the update will go through after 2-3 tries, never to this extent. I don't know what to do. Help!

  • Can we use the built-in Row fetch for Multiple reports in a page?

    I need to create a page with multiple report regions. Each of it is based on a table. Those tables are different. I somewhat remembered that we can NOT use the built in automatic row fetch process if there are multiple report regions, neither the built in DML process. You have to make your own fetch and insert/update/delete process if you intend to.
    Also if I write my own row fetch and update processes, do I have to consider lock mechnism? or just simply write select and insert/update?
    Any input is appreciated.

    I think I found the answer. Would Scott or other gurus take a look at the thread and confirm it, in case the limitation is not in 2.0?

    What I am concered about is that the locking mechanism. If I have to write my own process to fetch and insert/update, other than the regular select and insert/update statements, do I have to put commit by myself, or htmldb can handle it automatically? Is there an example for this?

  • Creating process for multiple Date fields for update or insert in APEX

    could someone please help me?
    i have a form on Apex based on view that is based on three tables and updating and inserting ok using trigger instead of.
    i have a problem now as in my form i have around 75 fileds (items) incuding 30 or more date fields which could be populated or left blank or update later.
    so for each date field i have two boxs; one for date, input as dd/mm/yyyy (text field) and second for time, input as 23:45. All dates will be insert or update manually by user. so as i mentioned not all date fields could be poulated at one stage.
    so i have created some process and validations and all of them work fine but i came accross if date left blank then (:) giving me problem so i have done following further process for each date field. In real table all the date fields have data type date.

    You can do the needful by re-using the code if you can give the item names as P8_DATE1, P8_DATE_hh1, P8_DATE2, P8_DATEhh2 etc..So your item name just differs by a sequence.
    Now you write function which will return desired date value taking above items as input. Pass item names to this function, get session state using APEX_UTIL.GET_SESSION_STATE('item_name') API.
    Now modify you code as
    FOR i IN 1..30
    LOOP
    v_date_array[i] = f_get_date('P8_DATE'||i, 'P8_DATEhh'||i);
    END LOOP;
    ....Now you have all date valus in array. Just write one update as follows
    UPDATE  TABLE1
    SET date1 = my_date_array[1], date2 = my_date_array[2]..
    WHERE ....Hope it helps :)
