Process waiting messages

Question

I am searching for a way to tell the jre to process all waiting messages in the message queue before continuing.
In Delphi I would use "Application.ProcessMessages".
In Java I have tried to call "SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(Thread.currentThread());" but this is not allowed, because I call this method in the actionListener (so the current thread is the dispatcher thread)

Sorry, but that seems not to work.
