Product Cost by Period and Product Cost by Order

Hi,
For one client can we go for a group of materials(FERT) with Product Cost by Period and for some other group of materials materials (FERT) Product Cost by Order.
My question is can both the concepts be used simultaniously for one client?
Any difficultieis if you follow both the concepts simultaniously.

You can very well use both the scenarios at same time.. Absolutely no issues with it...
Ensure that your Prod order types are separate for both the scenarios....
Prod Order type for Cost by order will have FUL as settlement type and the order type for Cost by period will have PER....
So, your user in shop floor needs to have that discipline of selecting the correct order type..
If your identification is based on some field like Material group, you can also put a custom ABAP check which wil give an error message incase wrong order type is chosen
For eg: Mat group ABC is allowed for cost by order... Order type for cost by order is Say, ZPP1... Your ABAP code can check if Mat group is ABC and order type is not ZPP1, then issue an error message
To put this check, use BADI WORKORDER_UPDATE

please explain the what is direct material and indirect material and its different between them

Direct materils: These material are bulkly needed and regularly needed for that orgnization to have their end product. these materials usually raw materials ....
Indirect materials: these materils are needed with direct materlias for the manufacture or to produce end product.
Ex: If your orgn's is cement Industry.
Direct materials: Silica Sand. etc..
Indirect matrials:BAG. Gypisum.....

What is
1) The difference between non-stock material and service material? and
2) The difference between text material and service material?
Give the example and how to configure it into sap.

1.A. non stoc material goes with NLAG Eg: Office supplies such as stationary & service materials goes with DIEN material type
2) The difference between text material and service material?
2.A. there is no any text material as a seperate master data in MMR & DIEN (services).
please chec the sap liabrary in it SAP has explained it very well.

basically there are two steps product cost planning and cost object controlling:
in PCP: Defining overheads,costing sheets, standard cost estimation settings i.e costing variant,valuation variant etc.,
in Cost Object controlling: based on which methodology you are following like product cost by order,sale order or product cost collector, accordingly customization has to be done. Here again costing variants for order types, period end closing like WIP, Variance and settlement settings have to be done.

Material and representative material in PCA

Hello all,
I have an issue concerning material numbers in Profit Center Accounting. My aim is to be able to report on material group (attribute on 0MATERIAL) in BW for both plan and actuals.
In R/3 PCA they plan on field "representative material". Furthermore they post actuals on "material" field.
Extractor 0EC_PCA_1 brings all postings (plan + actuals) to BW, but does not include the "material" field. It only includes the "representative material" field, so I'm missing the possiblity to see the actuals per material number.
Extractor 0EC_PCA_3 brings all actual postings to BW and includes the "material number". However the representative field is not filled (since this is only actuals)
So I get what I need into BW, but in two different extractors (and also on two different aggregation levels).
I somehow need to merge the information of these two extractors. Is it a multi cube I should use here? Or should I rather try to modify 0EC_PCA_1 by adding the material number in an append structure? I actually tried this, but I still couldn't find the new field in the extractor. So I guess this is not possible here and that I have to go for the multi cube solution?
I need to get both the "representative material" and the "material" into info object "0MATERIAL" since the material group is an attribute of that. Could this work if I modify the update rules in cube 0PCA_C01 (this is filled with records from 0EC_PCA_1) so that repr. material points at 0MATERIAL (for plan values) and at the same time use cube 0PCA_C03 (this is filled with records from 0EC_PCA_3) which uses 0MATERIAL as standard (for the actuals).
I'd be extremely thankful for some ideas/help...

Some questions:
Is there a 1 on 1 relation between repr. mat. and material?
Do you have PCA_1 as Totals or Line Items?
If you want to report on material group you somewhere have to have a relation between repr. material and mat. group.
Of course you can always map the rep. into 0MATERIAL, but you MD has to be correct too.
And: Adding in PCA extractors is difficult!

Hi SAP Gurus,
I am looking for the product costing interview questions and answers or just questions which covers all the steps like
1. Product Cost planning, Cost Object controlling, WIP and settling in all the Scenarios (Make to Stock, Make to Order, Repetitive Manufacturing)
2. period end processing Scenario wise
3. Entries made by each step in each scenario.
I have already gone through help.sap.com--> Product Costing and some other forum links but I need with questions and answers which can make me to recall the process and understand the whole process scenario wise completely. Please share with me if you have any documentation.

SO Product Costing - Difference between HAWA & FERT Material

Hi All,
I have the same settings for two Materials on the below fields: one is a HAWA and other is a FERT material;
Material Master:
1. Ind./Collective Indicator (either 1 or 2, but same in both Materials)
2. Qty Strcuctre (either Yes or No, but same in both Materials)
3. Price Control (either S or V, but same in both Materials)
BOM:
Both the HAWA and FERT has their own BOM with its components relevant for costing
Costing Variant:
1. Both follow the same Costing Varinat PPC4
2. There is no User exit active on Costing
With all the above settings remaing same between HAWA & FERT Materials, and when I do SO Product Costing,
1. BOM is exploded for FERT materials and its compoenents are costed individually to arriev at the costing of the Header Material - FERT. (in simple terms, costing happens with Qty Structure)
2. BOM is not exploded for HAWA materials but the costing refers directly to the Material Master data price of Header Material -HAWA. (in simple terms, costing happens without Qty Structure).
Can anyone explain the reason for this difference of BOM explosing happening for FERT but not for HAWA. (Note: Qty Structure does not work for HAWA even when it is set ON in its Material Master & BOM exist for HAWA Mat.)

Yes I accepte that FERT should carry price control "S".
Can you pl help as why HAWA materials are not costed with Quantity Structure when its Material Master has Qunatity Structure Indicator On and has a BOM.

Aavlaibility check for material and Substitution material

Hi Gurus,
I have a requirement where in I need to check the availability of a material and if there is not availability then I need to find out the substituted material maintained for the material.
for example, Material M1 has no stock in ECC and Material M2 is maintained as substitution in the SCM system. I need to figure out the tables or any Function module that can fetch the Material M2 if I provide Material M1.
I am able to check the material availability using the BAPI "BAPI_AVAILABILITY_CHECK". But I didnt find any FM or way to find the substituted material for a material.
Please help me out.

I don't know about SCM, but in R/3, the material determination process is based on the standard procedure/access sequence setup. If you trace the condition record maintenance, you will find your table name. If the SCM setup doesn't work that way, there will still be a master data setup step that you can trace and find the table.

Configurable material and project material cost

Dear all,
could you help me on the following question?
we need to calculate the configurable material cost in the projcet.
the costing varaint is to get the info record of the materials.
but now the problem is when i use cn33 to assign the materials to the activity, the planned cost is only the material cost shown in the projcet. we cannot get cost of the bottom materials.
how can i solve this problem, to get the planned cost,just as what we can get in the sales order (VA01)cost planning?

SAP: Cannot save product cost in commercial price in material master

Hi,
I have created a PCE which is designed to save the cost estimate in commercial price in accounting tab in material master. The issue that I am facing is that the cost; that is released perfectly is not saving in the commercial price in material master; instead the price saved in the commercial price is the previous price.
If I try to change the "costing type" for the PCE to any where other than "commercial price" or tax price; the price is saved successfully.
My question is that why the PCE's price is not saved in the commercial or tax price in the material master.
I would really appreciate your help.

In the costing type, choose "prices other than standard price".
And while doing CK24, you can choose the commercial price field to receive the cost estimate result
