Production and Test Servers

What is purpose of having a test and production servers ? in devlopment for example ... exactly what is the scenarion of making a benifit of them?
is there in interaction between the two servers?

i need to know why we have a test serverThe test server is mainly used to test the deployoment script which are developed by the development team and do proper functional/testing after you apply patches.
how a test server and why its used during implementation ? only for batching?To verify the setup during the implmentation and to test the patches (usually, there is a separate instance to test the patches, and once the patches are applied successfully it will be promoted to the test server for testing before it goes to production).
and what things i can not do to the production be4 i test them?If all the testing is done successfully on the test instance, it goes to UAT instance (for another testing) before it goes to production. For production, just make sure you have a valid backup before you patch the instance or move any setup.
and if iam to clone a prod to test ....is it a backup only?Run preclone on production, copy/restore the files to the test server and run postclone on the test instance -- I believe you are aware of the cloning docs.
and another thing after the cloning will they have the same instance name?No, production name is usually PROD and test instances is usually called TEST.

SQL Server Gateway Licensing - Production and Test

I have a client who has two databases that need to use the SQL Server Gateway - production and test (two separate servers).
As the gateway is separately licensed and can be installed on a separate machine from the database server am I right in saying that only one license is needed for the Gateway
and that both test and production databases can use it?
The Oracle Partner that they use is telling them that they need to buy two Gateway licences.

Migrate BI+ Workspace content between production and test (S9203)

Is there an (easy) solution to migrate contents between production and test in BI+ Workspace S9.2.9.0.3? I know I could extract the contents and then just import but that way I lose the object permissions. BI+ migration utility only supports migrations from older versions and not between the same version.

That isn't a problem, if you do it this way:
have all your environment specific configurations (e.g. translation.com password and connector data) in OSGI configuration nodes in the repository.
Use runmodes to pin certain configurations to a certain runmode.
Have dedicated runmodes for PROD and for TEST
In that case you could update your TEST environment like this:
Restore the instance from PROD backup
Change the runmode definition in the start script
Start it up.

How many licenses - Production and test systems

Sorry if posting in the wrong forum:
I need to purchase Adobe coldfusion enterprise 8 for use on a production server. Developers will also need this installed on a QA(TEST) server. Question is, can we install one version on both servers or do we need to purchase a license for each? Thanks for any guidance.

My word does not trump what ever an Adobe Representative will tell you when you contact them.
But yes. If you want two servers set up in which more then two users can connect, then you need to license both servers.
Some ways around this, that may or may not work for you.
The developer license of CF is free. This allows for ColdFusion to be installed on a developer's workstation and will allow two remote IP addresses to connect to it after each start of the ColdFusion service|dameon.
The Enterprise server allows for multipe ColdFusion instances to be running on a single physical server. Each instance gets it's very own completly sperate configuration and memory space. It would be possible to set up one instance to be used as the QA server and another to be used as the production server.
But for real answers you need to talk to a ColdFusion representative at Adobe. Just know that is NOT the generic sales person one gets by calling the normal Adobe support | sales numbers. At least they have not been historically.

Copy data between productive and test system

I need to copy data from one cube in productive system into the same cube in the test system.
How can I do it?

If you need to copy data from one system to another maybe you can do a Data Refresh or a SAP_DATA System Copy.
If you wan't only to copy data from 1 Cube to another in other system you shoul'd try transforming the data on the Cube to a Report or maybe an ODS and then dowload it to a CVS archive, and then make a Transformation From PC_FILE to ODS and Cube o from PC_FILE to Cube.

Production and Test deployment

Hi all,
I have a web services (Stateless java SOAP web service) and i want to have 2 different deployment. One for test and another one for production. I know how to use two different URI but now I also want that my program use a different configuration file in the two case.
How can I pass argument to my program when it is deployed as a webservices ?

I am not sure to undertstand your issue correctly.
1- You have deployed your service in 2 different environment (http://serverTest & http://serverProd )
2- Now you want to be able to test it from your client application, right?
So do do that if you are using a Java client (Web Service Proxy) you canuse the proxy.setEndPoint() method to chamge the endpoint you want to use. You canfor example configure that in a propertie file and for example use JMX to manipulate this information.

Mass Copy directory contents and permissions from production to test server

am using SUNOS5.8.
I found out there is a discrepency between the production and test environments.
The discrepency is only with folder and subfolders contained in /admin/bin/myfolder.
The production environment is more up to date and the test environment is lagging behind.
I want to make both the environments same, as they should be.
Is there a single command in Unix that will overwrite existing folders/files in test server and copy everything including permissions starting from /admin/bin/myfolder from production server to test server?
Please also give examples of how to user the command?

I have come to know there are various tools available:
rsh
rcp
rdist
rsync
scp
sftp
ftp
ftp is a very tedious tool to copy all directory contents one by one.
cd DirA
mv * /path/to/DirB
This method is also not a very preferable one.

Remote and testing server don't see root relative links the same

My site works fine on my testing server (Apache, MYSQL,
PHP). I use root relative links in a library
file (include file) so that it will work with all pages. For the testing server these links look like this:
/my_sites_root_folder/aaa/bbb/ccc etc.
If I use these same links on the remote server they won't work. To get hem to work I have to change all these links to the form
/aaa/bbb/ccc etc.
When dreamweaver uploads files to the remote server, the site name folder (my_sites_root_folder) doesn't go along for the ride--just the files in it. So on the remote all the site files are stored in htdocs. On my testing server, the files are stored in htdocs/my_site_root_folder.
I think it must have something to do with the way I'm setting up the remote and testing servers, but I'm read a hundred pages of instructions without being able to figure it out. I think I'm just seeing something wrong, but I've already spent days on this. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
I'm using DWCS5. Internet explorer 8, Windows 7.

I accept that using the local site root in links would be bad, but I'm not clear WHY. Structuring the links as I have doesn't cause any links to break. I've structured them this way because it's the only way I can find that everything works. But I still do not understand WHY I have to do it. Using different libary include files doesn't seem like a good way to go, though
You suggest that if I use any root relative links at all, I need to use vitual hosts. I'm not finding any good coverage of what these are, and especially why they are necessary. If this is the case, does that imply that templates (which use root relative links) also will not work on the test server (at least without vitual hosts)? The conclusion I'm coming up with, given your remarks, is "Dreamweaver doesn't work with root relevant links when you're trying to test a site with a test server." Is this right?

Database refresh from production to test -how to clean existing test env

My environment is
Both Production and Test databases are in two node RAC environment
Oracle version - 10.2.0.4.0
OS - RHEL5
Production database size 80GB
We need to refresh the test environment from production database. Complete objects, data etc should be refreshed.
We have a datapump export from production environment. With this export dump from production environment, I need to import into test environment.
So far, I have imported with this kind of dump to the fresh database only.
Now, we have already objects, data sitting in the test environment. How to clean the existing test environment and refresh the production datapump export dump.
I thought of dropping all the tablespaces in test (other than system,sysaux, undo and temp). But not able to drop few tablespaces, it is telling that index is available in other tablespaces, dependency errors etc.
Which is the best method to clean the existing test database. Management is not interested in dropping the test database and recreating it.

I understand that you are Newbie , let give me simple steps.
Follow the steps on testing envi.
1. Drop only Application users that you want to refresh from Prod(Do NOT drop users system,sysaux.. or tablespaces)
2. Create the users that you dropped.
3. using import or import data pump import the data.
In case you want to import user"A" data to "B" use REMAP_SCHEMA option.

Dreamwaver and Jump Servers

I use Dreamweaver CS6 on a Windows machine to develop and manage 20,000 web pages and their content. Using VPN, I access my remote / testing Linux servers with Dreamweaver, directly. In a recent development, our security folks no longer allow direct VPN access from my Windows machine to my remote / testing boxes and I am now required to use a shared Linux jump server as an ‘intermediary’ to access the web servers. This has negated my use of Dreamweaver as a content management tool for my large sites. Is there a way to configure connection, via Dreamweaver, to my remote and testing servers when a jump server is required?

License question - productive and no productive - what is mean ?

in my company we have a pool of Oracle users which we can use in production. This is 10 licensed Oracle users.
Right now on my server I have 9 running Oracle users (each of them is connected to the application). In next week I would like to create next 2 Oracle users. My Oracle user pool is 10 so I need one more additional user. After short discussion with my boss we have decided to switched off one existing user and start new one.
In this case on my server will be 11 users :
10 in production (connected to applications)
1 with production data but switched off (stored on the server for a backup)
In this case... Should I buy next Oracle user ?
What is mean productive and non productive user in ORACLE ? Where can I find some detailed informations.

Database Licensing is by end user / device OR by processor. It is not by the number of accounts created in the database.
There is no such thing as "productive and no productive". You might be talking of Production and Test/Development. Any Test/Development environment that supports Production must also be licenced.

CX_SY_FILE_OPEN_MODE - short dump on production but not in Dev and Test

I'm getting the follwoing short dump in production when I run the program which writes the data to application server. I have open data set and close data set. Same program when I in development and test I do not get any short dump. Can any know what could be cause for this.

Copy paste of error analysis from ST22 short dump -
Error analysis
    An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
    The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_FILE_OPEN_MODE', was not
     caught in
    procedure "DATA_UPLOAD_APP_SERVER" "(FORM)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING
     clause.
    Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
    exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
    The reason for the exception is:
    When accessing the file "/bw/FTPOUT/BPR/OTHER/test.csv", the system recognized
     that this file is
    not open. Therefore, the file cannot be accessed.

The file could not be OPENed in your production system for a variety of reasons - no authorization, file doesn't exist etc. You should have check sy-subrc right after OPEN DATASET and if not zero, yous should not TRANSFER or READ the file and instead you should have given a message with sy-msgid and sy-msgno which would give you the reason. The dump here is simply saying that OPEN is unsuccessful, so any subsequent READ or TRANSFER would throw runtime dump, if done after an unsuccessful OPEN.
