Professional 8 Submit buttons

I know how to create but having problems with xml and pdf extensions. When I select the submit button on my form, the email comes up and the attachment is a xml instead of a pdf. How do you make this a pdf??

The "Email Submit" button that is available in LiveCycle Designer is configured to attach the form data as XML. If you want to send the entire PDF you should use a regular button and configure the submit action yourself so it sends the entire PDF. You do this in the Object palette of the button:

  • Submit button issue in Acrobat 8 Professional/LifeCycle Designer

I am using Acrobat 8 Professional and LifeCycle Designer 8.0 on a PC with XP Pro. I first made forms using the default email submit button and had an XML data file submitted.
I'm now making the forms to submit as a pdf file rather than an XML file. I selected a regular button rather than the email submit button provided and made it a submit button to be submitted as a pdf.
The forms are being sent as pdf files attached to emails using Outlook. The issue is that every computer has a different "reaction" to this submit button. My computer (PC), when I tested the forms, everything was fine - Outlook opened and I was able to submit the file. On another PC in my office, when she clicked the submit button, nothing happened at all. On a PC at home, I got an error message "this operation is not permitted." And someone on a Macintosh did not even get a submit button showing up on the pdf.
We need to be able to send these files out so that everyone can complete them easily. I would appreciate any ideas on how to make the submit button so that it works on all platforms and computers.
    Thank you so much,
    Marcy

Thank you to you both for your suggestions.
Actually, Bill, this will not be a controlled environment at all. We want to be able to email forms to all of the 80 parents in the school, and have the parents complete them as pdf's and submit the information back to us as a complete pdf form. This opens up the potential for 80 different computers/ISPs/environments. And of course, my supervisor wants it seamless and easy with no glitches for all 80!! So as you can see, I have my challenge with this project.

  • Help with making an Email Submit button on a form!

Im making a form using livecycle for the first time.
Im trying to put on it a email submit button - i used email submit field and made the button. Then in the Objects Palette, in the box that says email address i put in the email address that i want it to be sent to. I then tried to email the form, and i received an email, but the attachment was just a bunch of codes, not the form. I want the email to come through with the PDF form.
I searched on help and this is what i found:
    3.
In the Control Type area, select Submit. Data will be submitted according to the settings in the Submit tab.
    4.
Click the Submit tab and type the URL protocol in the Submit to URL box.
    To
    Use this URL protocol
    Example
Submit the package to an ftp site
    ftp
    ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/GPL
Submit the package to a web server
    http
    http://myserver/cgi-bin/
Submit the package to a secure web server
    https
    https://myserver/cgi-bin/
Submit the package to an email address
    mailto
    mailto:[email protected]
    5.
Select PDF from the Submit As list.
I cant find where to change these options - can someone help?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The issue is that if the form is not Reader Enabled, then users with Reader cannot submit the form as a PDF.
They can submit it as an XML file and then you would re-import this back into the form on receipt. It is an extra step, but it does have the advantage that the data being submitted as an XML file is very small.
If you really need/want the form to be submitted as a PDF AND your users have Reader, then the form will have to be Reader Enabled.
    There are two options:
Reader Enable using Acrobat Standard (version 9) or Acrobat Professional (version 8). This will give certain rights, like the ability for users with Reader to save the form and for the form to be submitted as a PDF. However there are licensing restrictions, see EULA.
The other option is to Reader Enable the form using LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2. This is a server product, which entails additional cost and a cost to Reader Enable each form. It is intended for processing large volumes of forms/large volumes of data.
    There is a summary here:
    http://assure.ly/gYyYc2
So there are a couple of options.
    Form NOT Reader Enabled:
Users cannot save the data they input.
Data must be submitted as an XML file and processed on receipt.
    Form IS Reader Enabled:
Users can save the data they input.
Data can be submitted as a PDF (or XML file).
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • I created a form and I'm not sure how to make the 'submit' button send me the collected information.

Hello everybody. I am a web designer (NOT a developer)
I created a form and I'm not sure how to make the 'submit' button send me the collected information.
I have used phpform.org/ to custom build a submission form. Then I opened that html in dreamweaver (so that I could edit colors, fonts, and delete the phpform.org advetisement)
Now I need to link the 'submit button' so that it will e-mail me the completed form.
(formphp.org wants me to subscribe to a servie that I pay for in order to have the form e-mailed to myself.)
(after I get the submit button linked to an e-mail I will pull the html of my completed form into Muse- but I don't think that is really relevent)
I'm sure one of you can help point me in the right direction! I can't write my own code so detailed help is appreciated!

I'm afraid not.    It's not rocket science but you need to do some coding.
You'll need to find a script (php) and save it to your local site folder.  Then reference the script in your form's action attribute like so.
         <form action="path/form-to-email-script.php" >
The input fields in your HTML form need to exactly match the script variables.
I'm  assuming you're hosted on a Linux server which uses PHP code.  Linux servers are also case sensitive, so upper case names are not the same as lower case names.  It's usually best to use all lower case names in your form and script to avoid confusion.

  • Email Submit Button and Reader 7.0?

I was just wondering if the email submit button works in reader 7.0? I created the submit button so that it sends out the entire PDF form and the data instead of just the raw data, but someone tested it in reader 7.0 and it gives a "this operation is not permitted" error. I have professional 7.0, and it works great for me. So I was wondering if this was something to do with the version of adobe?
    - Natalie

    Hi Natalie,
To email the entire PDF in the free Reader, you would need to "reader extend" the form using LiveCycle Reader Extensions see:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/server/readerextensions/pdfs/readerextensionsserver_ds.pdf
You can however email the XML data instead (as an alternate option)and this will work in the free Reader as well as in Acrobat.

  • Submit button problem

I am using Acrobat 8 Professional and LifeCycle Designer 8.0.
    Thank you so much,
    Marcy

It might work on your machine as you designed in & using Adobe Acrobat. In order to make it work with rest of the world (Adobe Reader) you may have to assign certain rights using Reader Extensions server. Also heard Adobe Acrobat is preloaded with limited capacity to enable such rights even if you do not have "Reader Extensions".

  • How to automatically saved a pdf form into a network folder using a submit button

    Good evening to everyone,
I'm more than a beginner on adobe development reason why I would like to apologize first if my questions are dumbs. :-(
I would like to know if 'Adobe 9 Professional Extended' has the possibility to put some code into a submit button in order for the pdf form to be saved with a unique name and into a Network folder located into an Encryption Server where we handle our PII. Is it? Over the past two weeks I've been digging into the documentation but I'm unable to find something that will help me to accomplish our headquarters requirements.
If there is no possibility, is there any programming language that adobe accepts in order to configure a piece of code that will store the file into a network folder? Perhaps VB or C-SHARP?
Whatever feedback anyone can give, I deeply appreciate it.
    Thanks,

Thanks for the reply Mr. Chaney!
I do have more questions based on your recomendation.
From my understanding, JavaScript or FormCalc will be my only options, right? If that's the case, how can a scripting language (client server side) allow me to transfer automatic saved files into a Network folder within my company intranet? I downloaded the Scripting Basic manual and all the scenarios and code are client server side such as, changing background color, add effects to a button and so on.
I did find a command under FormCalc called "PUT" can I use this command to transfer a pdf file into a Virtual Directory folder? All the examples I saw were for XML files.
    Greetings,

  • Form with Submit Button

I recently purchased the acrobat professional 8 and tried to create forms that people can fill in and submit it to us. I tried email button but for some reason never get the email for the data. I thought about http button, but it need some scripting skill. I have some knowledge in ASP script but never create any script for form submission before. Can anyone show me some sample of how to create the script or point me to the right direction that I could have the submit button feature?
Also, I seem some forms that can allow reader users to save the data that they type in the form onto their computer, do anyone know how to create a form with this feature?
    Thanks

Use a regular button and change it's control type to submit. Under the Submit tab type in "mailto:youremailaddress". You can then either choose the Submit As for XML, which will send you the data that you can then import into the form or choose Submit As for PDF and you'll get the entire document.
Also, open the form in Acrobat, go to Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader. This will solve your problem.
*one thing to note, if you ever make changes to your form be sure to do the Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader step again.

  • Can Designer create a submit button that works in Acrobat Reader

Just got Adobe Professional 7.0 for Windows XP. Was able to design a form in Professional that works in Acrobat Reader (the majority of my users do not have the full product). To do this I set the email button to export the data in a .fdf format. I received the full form as an attachment in my email.
I then brought up the form in Designer 7.0 to use its expanded design capability. The button choices for the email submit button did not allow me to select a format and the saved file would not work in Adobe Reader. I then changed the button to a plain button using the submit control type. I found several submit format choices (XML, PDF, etc.). I saved the file in a variety of the choices but could not get Adobe Reader to send the format versions. FDF was not a choice. XML works but I would rather see the full form directly as an email attachment instead of taking the extra step of importing the XML data into the form
    Anybody have a work around?

    Andrej -
Can you be more specific about what is needed and how to do it? I just downloaded the trial version of Designer and Document Server 6. I've created the form with a submit button but it ain't working.
I want the "Submit by email" button to do just that - send the viewable .pdf (not just the data).
To take a step back - I can't even get the darn button to send anything. I have the info entered correctly in Designer but when the buttons clicked, an error msg. reads: "An error occured while sending mail". That tells me a whole lot of nothing. Is it because it's the trial version, or is there something else going on?
Anyway can you explain how to use Reader Extension Server in conjunction with Designer?
    Thanks -
    Dewey

  • Fillable Forms Submit button

(Bringing this here, amplified, from a different forum entry.)<br /><br />Consumers need to be able to fill out and submit Acrobat forms; it's a no-brainer if you buy into the idea of electronic forms at all. Apparently lots of businesses are trying to use MicroSoft Word Forms because Adobe dropped the ball on this .<br /><br />All this talk of Word forms ignores the fact that businesses pay designers good money (sometimes extremely good money) to have them design forms to look nice and work well, then freeze the look using Acrobat. <br /><br />But Acrobat expects Reader users to fill them out -- in one sitting -- and print them to submit the data, trashing the promise of the Paperless Office completely. If you don't complete the form in one sitting, due to interruption or crash, start over. If you change your mind or discover an error after you close the document, start over. <br /><br />That can make many people a bit ... impatient. Which doesn't make the Acrobat format a joy to use.<br /><br />But if you've ever had the misfortune to be assigned a Form assignment in Word, and seen the mess once a font or printer changes (including repagination), then Acrobat looks even better. Consistency and predictability is not Word's strong point.<br /><br />Basically all Acrobat needs to do is to have a "Submit" button that stores a text file with for example a list of "<FieldName>: 'Value';". Text file could be sent/attached/emailed to the collector, where a (Professional version) "Import Data" menu item would repopulate the fields from the Text file (or not -- maybe the data could be used directly). <br /><br />Nothing extremely difficult -- most databases or web pages can do this, so the technology is relatively simple. Digital signatures are probably the worst hiccup in the mix. Adobe should get on with it...<br /><br />I wonder if it could be hand-coded and enabled through something as simple as a JavaScript Button action?

Yes, but that requires special servers Software That Adobe want at least $7500.00 a Po for The fdf information is collected on a speal server using something like php then you must have a copy of the form on the other end somewhere and it generates filled in forms. There's information about it on Adobe's website.
If your a Fortune 500 company $7500.00 is pocket change and no big deal.
To smaller companies and non-profits its a posion pill.
This subject has come up on this news group time after time with threads upwards 50 or 100 threads. The experts on the group being in big business say Adobe has the write squeeze all the juice they can out of us Turnips. And us Turnips keep saying it should be made available to everyone so that you can email filled out forms to anyone.
I've given up the idea. So unless you area "biggggggg" company your out of luck. If you are plunk down that 7-10K to Adobe and they will fix you right up.

  • Submit button on pdf not working?

Unsure but submit button works fine on my system but when I have loaded on a web page it doesn't seem to work
    http://www.tlc.net.nz/wp-content/uploads/lts-registration.pdf

I have made a form with email submit button in Adobe designer 8. Then I opened this form into Acrobat8 Professional to distribute the form. It worked fine. But the thing that upset me that the form receiver can distribute this form after receiving it. How I can restrict this distribution option to the form receiver?
I will highly appreciate if any one can help me in this regard.

  • Email body copy created by email submit button

The body of a message created by the email submit button contains the following copy:
"The attached file contains data that was entered into a form. It is not the form itself.
The recipient of this data file should save it locally with a unique name. Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 or later can process this data by importing it back into the blank form or creating a spreadsheet from several data files. See Help in Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 for more details."
How do I prevent this, or change the default copy?

    jimmy,
I've also followed your advice. FYI I'm using LiveCycle Designer 7.1. My only problem is that I can't use HTML markup inside the HTTP Submit Button's URL attribute.
    For example, a
tag in the HTTP Submit Button's URL attribute appears as just that inside the email body copy:
    . There's no line break.
The default "Submit by Email" body copy message has a paragraph break as seen below:
The attached file contains data that was entered into a form. It is not the form itself.
The recipient of this data file should save it locally with a unique name. Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 or later can process this data by importing it back into the blank form or creating a spreadsheet from several data files. See Help in Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 for more details.
My question is, how can I add HTML markup in the email body copy? Can this be done with the HTTP Submit button's URL attribute or can the Email Submit Button be customized to change the above email body copy?

  • Making a Submit button do 2 things

I have a simple asp page that inserts a new record into an
Access db. I used Dreamweaver's insert record wizard to create it
    and it works fine.
When the user clicks the "submit" button that actually
inserts the record into the database, I'd like to have it also
automatically send an email to someone notifying them that a new
record has been added. I'd be content with it just having a
sentence in the subject line, with nothing in the message area.
Can it be done? If so, how?

It is fairly easy. All you need to do is grab some email code
    and insert it
in the insert code just above where it does the
    response.redirect to go to
    your success page.

  • The Submit button does nothing.  How can this problem be corrected?

I have seen numerous postings stating that a Submit button on an XFA form will not work.  I believe this may be a widespread problem.
    The symptoms are as follows:
    1. The form is a Designer form (sometimes referred to as an "XFA form") that contains either an HTTP Submit or an Email Submit button.
    2. The Submit button works fine if the user has Adobe Professional (bundle of products incluting Acrobat and LifeCycle Designer) installed.
    3. The Submit button does not work if the user only has the Adobe Reader installed.
Our users first reported this problem in October, and we have been attempting to determine what changed in our system to make this happen.
The forms were created using Designer version 9.
On Windows 7 and Windows XP test PCs we have tried various versions of the Reader X and get the same results with all of them.
We primarily use Internet Explorer as a browser.
I will admit that I have not read all of the release notes for all versions of Reader X.  And I am not even sure if this is a Reader problem.
Please let me know if you are having this problem, and, if you have any thoughts on how to solve it I would very much like to hear from you.

Since this is a Designer form it may be worth posting in the LiveCycle Designer forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/livecycle/livecycle_modules_and_development_tools/livecy cle_designer_es. What works with Reader versus what works only with Acrobat is not only complicated, but it's different for Designer forms. We have very limited experienced people here for Designer forms, Acrobat forms is our thing.
However, I'm quite sure it isn't broken. The many limitations are by design, to sell more stuff.

  • Dreamweaver Forms Submit button

I can not get the submit button to work on the Forms page I built. Is it true that some special code is needed from the website server to put this all together and make it work? If so, why doesn't it tell you that somewhere in the Dreamweaver tools. It seems it shouldn't have to be that hard to make it work. If there is an easier way to make it work, please let me know. All I get when I try it is an empty email comes up when I click Submit. There is no form included in it.  I need to get this working on our website. Please help. Thanks.

Dreamweaver is a professional level tool, it assumes you understand the basics of html, css, javascript and some server scripting.
It's not terribly difficult to make a form function (using a mailto: link in the form's action attribute), it's only a bit more difficult to make it function securely, without opening your email address up to massive amounts of spam and causing half of your viewers to see nothing when clicking on the submit button.
Personally, I use the Formmail script from http://www.tectite.com it's fairly secure out of the box (and offers more security with reCapcha) and has a lot of features you can choose to use, or not. It's loads safer and much more reliable than attempting to use a mailto: link.
If your server supports PHP, I'd suggest trying it out.
