Profiler crash

Hello all,
I'm trying to use the profiler for the 1st time on a rather big application
and it crashes almost immediately, during the init sequence of the program:
"An unexpected fatal error occurred in the Execution Profiler"
The crash is random and always happen on different lines.
The program resumes running afterwards after I aknowledge the popup, but I
don't get any profiling statistics at the end.
Later on when I hit CVIProfSetCurrentThreadProfiling (0);
I get:
NON-FATAL RUN-TIME ERROR: "l:\dim_v17r5\DimGpio\DimCviClient.c", line
1375, col 5, thread id 0x00000BE4: Library function error (return value ==
-5 [0xfffffffb]). An unexpected fatal error occurred in the Execution
Profiler.
Using the profiler on a simple program works as expected.
Guillaume Dargaud
http://www.gdargaud.net/

I hoped that this problem would go away in CVI 2012, but no dice.
I just spent a few hours trying to get the profiler to run without success.
My main() calls a lot of init functions and the message "An unexpected fatal error occurred in the Execution Profiler" pops up at random if the main is long enough:
void main(void) {
InitA();
InitB();
} // Profiler works
If I go to InitA/B/.../Z() it always fails, If I have InitE() it sometimes fails, sometimes runs. Obviously I'm simplifying a lot.
Those init() load panels and do a lot of other stuff but I can't isolate it to a particular function.
Now when I get that Popup, I can [Stop] the program without having to acknowledge the popup and each time it's on a different line.
This is what I get in the CVIDebugLog.txt:

It's not such a critical issue because I can use Valgrind+callgrind or the old gprof, but it still would be nice to have an integrated working profiler.

  • External Hard Drive won't load, Disk Utility and System Profiler crashes,

I've had the WD 1TB Passport for Mac for about a year now and as of this afternoon, my MacBook Pro stopped recognizing it. It's encrypted so when I plugged it in, my computer asked me for my password, but then it said there was an error and wouldn't mount. After restarting the computer, the password prompt for my external drive didn't even pop up. I can hear the hard drive spinning and the light flashes for a good 30 seconds before going solid. I have tested my USB ports with flash drives and they are reading them just fine. I tried to run  Disk Utility but it goes into the never-ending loading mode. So then I go to the "About my Mac" page and clicked on storage, and the profiler crashed (never-ending loading). Can anyone help me? It was working just fine up until today. I even tried different Micro USB chords on it. This drive is incredibly important to me and I would appreciate not having to erase anything from it (kinda defeats the purpose of backing up a computer if the external hard drive is the one needing the backup).

  • System Profiler crashes when I try to save.

System Profiler crashes when I try to save. It starts to save it then crashes and I can't view the report.

Hi Lindsay, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this for safety...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
Try deleting this file & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SystemProfiler.plist
    Does it work now?

  • System Profiler Crashes When Saving

    Hi,
I am trying to the xml file from System Profiler. Every time I attempt to save, System Profiler crashes when it reaches "Applications". It is reporting the following error:
    Application Specific Information:
    SPApplicationsDataType
    * error for object 0x101040208: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed.
I have tried running System Profiler immediately after a restart incase there was an application running and creating this error. Any advice would be amazing. Thanks!

Douglas you are not alone on this. I have the same exact problem on my iMac i7, showing the same exact error in the crash report. I even used Disk Utility to partition my internal hard drive, after which I reinstalled OS 10.6 from the iMac's master DVD, and after that I installed all the updates via the internet. Even in the perfectly clean condition, I get a crash when I try to save the ASP report. It also crashes when I do the same via the Terminal.
It's quite amusing really. The only reason I am trying to save an ASP report is because I filed a bug report about my iMac locking up once a week when I wake from sleep, and Apple Engineering asked me to save the ASP Report for them. But I cannot save it due to a crash. So I submitted crash logs to Apple Engineering in the same bug report. I suggest you do the same. It would appear to be a bug in the OS, as evidenced by the fact we get it even after a clean install of the OS on a brand new drive partition.
    Here's the Apple Bug Reporter:
    https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa
And before anyway suggests it to me too, yes, I've telephone AppleCare. I've phoned them 3 times so far concerning my Sleep problem, and during the third phone conversation they upgraded me to a Senior Advisor and I reported the ASP crash too. They had no idea what to say about that, even when I mentioned my bug report to Apple Engineering.

  • System Profiler Crash

    Hi All!
Trying to check my applications for compatibility in preparation for a Lion upgrade, I attempted to use System Profiler to list all my applications by kind -- i.e., intel native, PowerPC, etc.
But, when I click on "Applications" under "Software" in System Profiler, it crashes. Reliably crashes, even after a reboot.
Anyone else experience this or have thoughts about what might be the cause? I've never had System Profiler crash before.
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Only 1 of my profiles crashes - recent upgrade to Thunderbird 31.6.0

    System: Win7, 64-bit.
I use Thunderbird for Pop mail. Been using it for 15+ years.
Today I installed v 31.6.0. I had been using the version dated 2010 (can't recall the the version #) with no problems. But I decided to update today so I could use an add-on that was not compatible with that old version.
I have 5 profiles for TB. Now, all of them work - _except_ for my main one. My main profile crashes even in safe mode. (By "crashes" I mean it shows "not responding" and won't change, so I have to close it.)
Apart from safe mode, the only fix I tried was deleting all the *.msf files.
The profile folder for my main profile (Profile #1) is 1.4GB. It has many pop-mail accounts, many e-mail folders, many e-mails.
The profile folder for Profile #2 is just as large in GB as Profile #1's folder - though Profile #2 has many fewer accounts, e-mail folders, and e-mails within it.
Since TB 31.6.0 is working with 4 out of 5 of my profiles, my only hunch is this: There is some corrupted file in Profile #1. But, I don't know which file it might be.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    <blockquote>
they will still both use the same profiles.ini file in AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird. Right?
    </blockquote>
Correct. There's only one profiles.ini file. It includes all your profiles, regardless of which version of Thunderbird is used in connection with the profile.

    Problem 1:
Looks like you're trying to launch IE.
There's two flash players for windows browsers.  A plugin for for firefox/chrome… and an activeX control for IE.
Looks like you're missing the debug version of the IE one.
You can find it here: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/11/flashplayer_11_ax_debug.exe
    Problem 2:
    go here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
And add a location… looks like in you're case you should add "d:\"
    A note on the link above… it's not a image… it's a swf you can interact with.
Note: The Settings Manager that you see above is not an image; it is the actual Settings Manager itself. Click the tabs to see different panels, and click the options in the panels to change your Adobe Flash Player settings.
After doing this… you may need to kill every instance of flash player you have running in order for the settings to take effect. (i.e. a reboot might be in order)

  • System Profiler Crashes Lacie ext not mounting

Sometime after updating to 10.4.9, I noticed my external Lacie firewire is not mounting. I have disconnected/reconnected Lacie HD. I have ran Permissions from direct CD, reset PRAM, HD not visual in DiskUtility, Diskwarrior, or System Profiler. When I launch System Profiler and check fireware, SP crashes. The report reads:
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
I have not moved Apple apps around. SP is able to run other checks just not firewire. How can check my fireware connections?

  • System profiler crashes

hi, every time i go to open up the system profiler it crashes. the computer does not crash but that one thing does. it opens then it closes right away after it pops up. the message after it close says " The application System Profiler quit unexpectedly" " Mac OS X and other applications are not affected." "Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple." the computer is not hooked up to the internet yet.
    help me please!!!!

If you are running 10.4, you can launch Disk Utility, select your Hard drive and choose ( Verify ) while the System is running. \[If that finds problems, you will need to boot from your Install CD to ( Repair).] Then run ( Repair Permissions ) (which can be run while the System is running). If that does not fix the problem, System Profiler may be damaged, and you may have to use Pacifist to extract and re-install it.
It DOES work on older hardware (whose installation of 10.4 was facilitated by XPostFacto), some parts are just not as detailed. For example, on a beige G3, it will tell me correctly there is 384 MB of RAM, but it can't tell me anything about slots, sizes, or speeds. It tells me there is 8 MB of VRAM, which is not quite right (there is a 4 MB SODIMM added) but at least it knows there is more than the default of 2. I have never had it crash.

    ----------------From Flex Builder
    Help---------------------------------------------------
One approach to identifying a memory leak is to first find a
discrete set of steps that you can do over and over again with your
application, where memory usage continues to grow. It is important
to do that set of steps at least once in your application before
taking the initial memory snapshot so that any cached objects or
other instances are included in that snapshot.
Then you perform that set of steps in your application a
particular number of times -- 3, 7, or some other prime number --
and take the second memory snapshot to compare with the initial
snapshot. In the Find Loitering Objects view, you might find
loitering objects that have a multiple of 3 or 7 instances. Those
objects are probably leaked objects. You double-click the classes
to see the stack traces for each of the instances.
Another approach is to repeat the sequence of steps over a
long period of time and wait until the memory usage reaches a
maximum. If it does not increase after that, there is no memory
leak for that set of steps.
check your app following these instructions above.

  • "C" drive & Profile crash-so all attachments are in crashed profile? Just want to make sure?

1-had C drive crash a few days ago and am rebuilding on new C drive > NEW copy of TB 24.6.0
2-Had Local Folders on a separate drive > in Tools – Account Settings – Local Folders > set to previous location
3-After studying many support responses is it correct that the actual attachments are still in the Profile on the crashed "C" drive?
4-Searched all drives on "new" system and found no "Profile" or "*.mbox" files - where are they?
Just want to make sure cause the mozmsgs/wdseml on the "separate drive" only have message text when imported. If this is TRUE then I've got to focus my effort on recovering the Profile from the crashed disk. Yes, I did not have a backup - my bad for sure.
    Thank you,
    Tom

In Thunderbird, messages are stored as they are received, along with all headers and all attachments.
In your profile, there will be folders with no extension, such as ''Inbox''. These are mailbox files. Each has an accompanying index file, in this example ''Inbox.msf''. You don't need the msf files.
The profile folder is hidden, so to find it you'll need to enable displaying of hidden files.
mozmsgs is provided just to make the message contents available to Windows' searching mechanisms, so these files are not important to your restoration task.
I really don't like the business of setting mail account folder locations using the Local Directory option. It removes the particular folder from your profile and makes maintenance very much harder, since now only ''you'' will know where the re-located data lives. None of the usual techniques or tools for working with profiles will work with the detached data.
