Project settings and presets

Thanks for the follow up.
Premiere Elements 11 is set up to take charge of recognizing the properties of your source media and setting the project preset whose description matches it so that the program can be directed to set up the correct space in the Edit Mode Monitor for Editing purposes. The project preset has other purposes but for now we will leave it at this. The program sets the project preset based on the properties of the first video drag to the Timeline. I work in the Expert view Timeline since I can see better what is going on and thus have more control.
Sometimes the program does an OK job setting the project preset, sometimes not.
What is the frame size of your video @ 60 progressive frames per second? For now I will asssume 1920 x 1080 (1080p in this case). You can determine what the program is setting for you by viewing Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and look at the Editing Mode, Timebase, and Frame Size reading. If 1080p60, you should see Editing Mode = AVCHD 1080p square pixel, Timebase = 59.94 frames/second, and Frame Size = 1920 x 1080.
If you do not see that, then you start a new project...
File Menu
New
Project
and, in the new project dialog, you set for NTSC/AVCHD/AVCHD 1080p60, making sure that you put a check mark next to Force Selected Project Setting on the Project.
At this point, you use Add Media/Files and Folders to get you 1080p into Project Assets from where you drag it to the Timeline.
When you are ready to export, take a look at Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with preset = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.
Then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of the preset, you change the setting as shown in the following screenshot so that you end up with your 1920 x 1080 @ 60 progressive frames per second as AVCHD.mp4.
Video Tab Settings
The important part of that Export Setting dialog is there.
Please let us know if you are OK with those results.
Thanks.

  • What project settings and export settings to use ?

So, after some trial and error i give up and need some huge help. (7.0 Pro)
I have recorded some footage through a game running at 1920:1200 resolution. So the question is what project settings should i choose under project, look at the picture below for example. Some times i get a large black area around the finished video, while one time it came out as a 4:3 vid....
    http://bildr.no/view/468733
Further more, when i am done editing i want to export it uncompressed to the disk in the same format 1920:1200 (which is 16:10). Which settings should i then choose?
    http://bildr.no/view/468734
Thx for any help you might be able to provide. Btw! Basically, what i want is just plain editing, no cropping of edges, resizing etc, i just want to take the raw video, edit it, and make a new file out of it with the same properties as the raw vid (source).

Your pixel aspect ratio and field order are wrong. You want PAR set to "square pixels" and field order set to "Progressive (None)". Do the same for your export settings.

  • Encore Project Settings and Encoded file is less in Encore than on my Drive.

    Hi,
Before Encoding my Premiere Pro timeline in Media Encoder, I had set up my all my menus and all my assets in Encore CS 5.1. After I had done all that, I pressed the "Build button and it said I had around 23 GB left (I am making a Blu-Ray DVD)
So I went back to Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and Encoded my Project through Media Encoder. I set it it H.264 Blu-Ray, PCM Audio, Target Bit Rate was 18.5 and Max Bit Rate was 20. The estimated file size said it was going to be around 23 GB. This was perfect.
So I encoded it and when it was done, on the Hard Drive, it was 23 GB, just like to was supposed to be.
I then imported it into my Encore project and put it on the timeline. I then looked at the Build tab to see how many GB I had left on the Disc. I wanted a little room.
It said I am only using just over 20 GB and have a little over 4 GB left to use..
Why would this happen? I now have more free space.
In Encore, I wento to File ------ Project Settings ------ Default Transcode settings ---- and that was set at:
    Max Audio/Video
    Codec MPEG 2
    Bit Rate = 15 MBPS.
    The Audio was on Dolby.
There was a drop down list, in the Bit Rate category, that I could have chosen to use 20 or 25. I left it at 15 for now.
If I go back and choose 20 or 25 would that make the encoding of my whole project (Menus and h.264 Blu-Ray) a little better quality than it is now? Will it increase the size of Encoded project so when I hit the Build tab again it will show I have less space available to use? I want to make the project  as good as it can get without going over the 25 GB limit.
    One other thing.
Wih my final project on the Encore Timeline, when I have the Sequence active, on the Project tab in Encore it reads: 19.1 GB Encoded (Audio and Video). the final encode is 23 GB. Why is it going down to 19?
The video looks good and I could burn it to a Blu-Ray now and it would look great. I just want to know if there is some way to make it a little better inside Encore without having to Encode my whole project at a higher Bit Rate knowing that It will be a little less when I bring it into Encore.
    Thanks in advance
    Premiere Pro CS 5.5
    Media Encoder 5.5
    Encore 5.1

Many issues in this; one problem is understanding file sizes and Encore's handling of project panel sizes and build panel sizes.

Regarding bitrate calculators and a shorthand method mentioned by Jeff Pulera, see his post 2 in that same thread. I see that it was regarding DVD; I wonder if someone has a shorthand like that for Bluray?

  • Import and Export settings and presets

    Thanks in advance.
Where can I save all the different import and export settings? Like if I just want to export Quicktime with audio and save that setting so I don't have to reset it every time. Thanks

I don't think you can in QT... You can in FCP by selecting CUSTOM as your setting when exporting to QT. Just rename the settings from custom to what you'd like it to be.

  • Re: specs for project settings and final delivery of animations for HD broadcast

    Hi all,
i just finished reading the studio techniques book by mark christiansen and i have i few doubts, maybe someone working on similar proyects can help me out, i hope so!!
i live in a PAL country and i mostly design and animate infographics in AE with shape layers, illustrator files and psd files. i may work in a proyect for HD tv broadcast and some issues and insecurities had crawled in. i would like to describe wich will be my guess as to the workflow:
1- setting up the project in AE:
obviously the color working space should be consistent between aplications. Linearize is important but i don´t fully grasp the concept.
    2) my master composition:
here, the choice of frame rate should be 25/50 depending on..? is just a choice if you work with live footage from hd cameras? applies to animations, graphics?
And last question, which would be the preferred delivery file format and encoding? i know the choices are wide but if you have a setting that´s working for you and your clients then i´ll be helpful.
Also. if you have an article you can recommend where there is a clear explanation it´d be appreciatted, it seems (for me) the deeper you digg the more confused i become.
    Thanks in advance!!

You must check with the broadcaster. They either publicly publish their requirements or they are listed in a contract. There's no one size fits all here. The best option for broadcast work is to render a lossless or nearly lossless copy of your work as a DI (digital intermediate) and then compress the project to the exact broadcaster specifications using Adobe Media Encoder or another app specifically designed for compressing video for delivery. The only time you ever look like an amateur is when you don't ask for the specifications. I regularly deliver the same footage do different distributors in 6 different formats.

  • How do I match a clip to sequence settings and sequence presets?

I'm getting the warning: Attention - This clip does not match this sequence's settings or any or our sequence presets.
I'm trying to figure out how to set things up in Compressor so that my clips do match my sequence settings and presets. The issue seems to be with the audio not matching.
    Here are the sequence settings:
    Audio-2 Outputs
    Frame Size- 1920x1080
    Vid Rate-24fps
    Compressor-Apple ProRes 422 (proxy)
    Aud Rate 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format 32-bit floating Point
I shot all the footage with a Canon 5D Mark II. I'm using Compressor to convert all my original clips. The only thing I don't seem to be able to match is the Audio. I can't find any way in Compressor to encode clips that have "two outputs" in the Audio column.
The dialogue box for "Sound Settings" in Compressor doesn't offer any sort of options, that I can find anyway, to generate clips with "two outputs."

    These are the Compressor settings:
Description: Apple ProRes 422 10-bit video with audio pass-through. Settings based off the source resolution and frame-rate.
    File Extension: mov
Estimated size: 16.36 GB/hour of source

  • 2 project settings questions

    Hello again
Still experimenting with PrE8 trial version. This is my first experience with a video editor so learning all from scratch. I have a couple of questions regarding the project setting you need to chose when you create a new project. I understand these settings define the "working" enviroment for the editing process - in other words the resolution and all the other characteristics (format, frame rate, etc) that the project will use
    1) I have a camera that´s 1920x1080 30p (progressive) , the GoPro HD. When I look in the new project presets, all 1920 x 1080 presets available seem to be specifically designed for interlaced video. This is indicated by the names of the presets, and by their descriptions as well.  There is only 1 progressive preset, of a lower resolution (720p)
Nevertheless, I tried using the HD 1080i preset, loaded some 1920x1080 progressive mp4 files, and apparently it works perfectly well. In fact when I go to edit>project settings>general window,  the project attributes indicate progressive video !!!
Is there really any difference (or specific requirement)  in a project preset for interlaced vs progressive video? ( I am beginning to suspect that there is really no difference,  and that the coding ( i vs p) does not really form part of the project settings, and that the project will take both forms of input media)
    any thoughts on this?
    2) The GoPro has a non-standard resolution mode, HD with 4:3 aspect ratio : 1280x960 30p
There is no project setting preset that will match this, how can I create one myself ?
The PrE help says this is possible, but I can't find how. ( Edit>project settings will not let me change the resolution)
    from the help
If your source footage requires a custom project preset, you can create one. The procedure for creating a preset differs if you’re changing settings for an open project versus establishing settings for a new project. Presets you create can be applied to new projects, and if you want to back up or distribute  preset files, you can find them in the Settings subfolder of the  Adobe Premiere Elements folder on your hard disk.

Again thanks so much for your time and your help ,  much appreciated.

Unfortunately you will not be able to use the video from those "sports" camcorders directly in Premiere Elements. It's just not compatible with the program.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
As you can see from this FAQ, there are three options for converting the video:
    1) Convert it a DV-AVI using MPEG Streamclip. It's a free program, but the DV-AVI it outputs will not be hi-def. It will be standard video, but it will be editable in Premiere Elements.
    2) Convert it to a standard def DV-AVI using Quicktime Pro, a $29 download from Apple.com,and edit in Premiere Elements.
    3) Use Quicktime Pro to do your editing. The video will remain a high-def MP4.
The best solution, of course, is if the camcorder itself comes with its own editing software. That's software you KNOW will work with the camcorder's footage.
But, short of that, you'll need to use one of the hybrid solutions above. But you will not be able to edit the footage directly in Premiere Elements. Sorry.

  • A question about project settings..FCP 7

I am using FCP 7 and I'm a little overwhelmed with the myriad of project settings options.
I use a Canon T3i and film in full HD (1920x1080 i think).  All my footage I transcode in compressor to Apple ProRes 422 before importing to FCP projects.
I installed another computer and reinstalled FCP 7 and lost my old templates and importing some footage, I get the red line indicating unrendered footage.
Is there a standard setting that Compressor and FCP use to make it easy to just transcode, import, and edit?  I'd like all my projects to look the best possible in full HD and there's hundreds of preset project settings and I'm a little unfamiliar with all the options.
Anyone have any quick tips, pointers, or thoughts?

If you drop a clip into the timeline, it means the sequence settings don't match the clip settings.  Make a new sequence, add the clip. FCP should ask "do you want the sequence to match the clip settings?" Click YES. If you don't see that, you might need to trash your preferences...or it might be an older version that doesn't support ProRes formats (FCP 5.1 and earlier).
Another way is to choose an EASY SETUP that matches your clip settings, and then make a new sequence.
And your camera shoots 1920x1080p...not i.

  • Project settings menu does not appear

Running OS 10.9.5 and iMovie 10.0.5 on a macbook pro.
I'm trying to set the aspect ratio of my project.  I have seen several docs and threads that say I should click File->Project Settings and the project settings menu will come up.  However, I can't find that. The file menu does not contain Project Settings or anything like that. Neither do the other pull down menus.
I have also seen threads describing how when I create a new project (trailer or movie) and there is supposed to be point at which I can select the aspect ratio.  Nope, don't see that either. For example, when I click the big "+" that is used to create a project, I get to choose between a trailer and a movie, then I get to choose a theme, then it asks for a name and I click OK and that's it.
I have also used Command-J, which is supposed to bring up the properties menu. That does give me the movie properties, but there is no place to choose an aspect ratio. I get the same results, or lack thereof, when I do Window->Move Properties (not surprising since command-J is the short cut key for this).
Question -- is this supposed to work with 10.0.5?  I have tried to find a later version of iMovie but the only one I found on the apple store site was 10.0.6.
    Any ideas?????

I have finally found where it is stated that iMovie 10 does not support project properties or changing the aspect ratio.
I love Apple and would never consider switching to a PD, but really, folks, this is just a plain dumb decision on Apple's part and IMHO reflects the continuing siphoning of quality resources from OS-X/laptops/desktops to iPhone and other gadgets. yuck.
consider this discussion closed (I don't know how to close  it) and I will fire up my old iMini that has OS 10.6 on it and see if I can get the job done there.
    yuck.

  • Frame size discrepancies in project settings?

    Hi Guys
I have some new information and some observations on my problems with getting full screen output.
I looked through all the project settings and I noticed that the ones I was trying to use…
HD 1080i (60i) and HDV 1080i 30 say that the output is at a16 to 9 ratio and have a frame size of 1440 by 1080i.
This is the frame size or ratio, I kept trying to import.
I finally realized that this isn't a frame size that is proportional to the image ratio that it lists.
16 by 9 would really be proportional to 1440 by 810.
The 1440 by 1080 video that I import using either of these, does not export full screen even if it’s exported the same size it comes in, i.e.1440 in and 1440 out.
So I looked through the project setting for a selection where the stated ratio and the frame size matched.
    I found HDV 720p 30.
    16 by 9 at a 1280 by 720 frame size.
This would be an easy size for my to work in.
So I made a video at that size then loaded it into PE8 and it exported fine.
Full screen no border.  In fact it comes out full screen no matter what size I export it.
When I exported the same video at 1600 by 900 it exported full screen and looked fine.
Then I went back and loaded the same 1280 by 720 video inthe HDV 1080i 30 settings.
It also came out full screen with no border.
So the problem is that as far as I can see the selection screen is wrong about the frame size for both the HD 1080i and the HDV 1080isettings.
You really have to load in something at 1600 by 900 or proportional to that.
And as far a I can find there is no setting that supports any thing other the wide screen except for the Standard 48kHz settings.
It looks like unless you want to go to a wide screen format 720 by 480 is the only option.
Now I’ll have to decide whether I want to do future projects wide screen or live with the restrictions on frame size.
I hate to change horses in the middle of the stream so I may just stick with the smaller size for the Lucy videos but other projects I will do wide screen.
Thanks again for all the help.
    Mike

Subject: Re: Frame size discrepancies in project settings?
    Hi Guys
Ok, I think I get it at last.
So when I create a 1440 by 1080 file, to use in the 1080i format, it should change the PAR from 1 to 1.333 when I create it, but since I can't control that I get an image that is too small, even though the pixel size is the same.  The aspect ration should still end up 16 by 9.
So since Poser creates everything with a PAR of 1, my only option if I want a wide screen video is to actually pick a 16 by 9 ratio when I output it and ignore the listed frame size.
I still don't quite get why the image is both shorter and narrower, it seems like it should only be narrower but I'll live with it.
And there is no way to make PE8 output a full height image in the wide screen format that 3 by 4 except to drag it larger in the preview window.
And there is no advantage in doing that since I'm still using a 16 by 9 window and getting the file size that goes with it.
So if I want to work in a 3 by 4 format then the Standard 48kHz format it the only option.
Well at least I know what to do next time.
That should save a lot of time.
I may just give up and go to 16 by 9 and quit fighting it.
    Thanks again.

  • PRE9 Project Settings questions

I just got PRE9 and I am working on my first video.  The question I have is
about project settings and resolutions, etc.  I want to output the video to both DVD and to a file that can be copied to a USB thumb drive and plugged into my l 55in HDTV for playback.  it doesn't have to be HD video, but I do want it in 16:9 widescreen atleast.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

The project setting needs to match your video source (i.e. what you are putting *IN* to PRE9). So what is the source of your clip and what settings did your camera use at the time of shooting? How did you get it into PRE9? Ideally can you run one of your video clips through the free GSpot tool and post the screen shot here.
Getting your video output to any output (widescreen or standard) is a feature of the Share tab in PRE9. To output it to two formats (DVD and data file for your USB thumb drive) is two separate Shares that will be found under Share> Disc and Share> Computer (or possibly Share> Mobile Phones and Cameras).
Give us a bit more detail about where and how you want to play that USB thumb drive version.
    Cheers,

  • Cannot open score project settings...

    Hi all!
I have this wierd issue on my laptop. I've stripped some songfiles made on a MacPro, down so they only contain the score. No audio instruments, just some of the plugs are still there. When I open the files the page setup looks different. Even though I've set it to print on the same printer, the margins are different and Header info is off the paper. So I try to open score project settings and find I cannot. I wandered if it might be a problem that the project was made on two screens and that the prefs window is actually opening off-screen. I've never experienced that before but who knows. So I try Exposé to reveal all open windows but Exposé fades out floating windows so if the prefs are out there, I can't see them.
has anybody encountered this problem and found a solution?
    Sincerely, Ginge

one more thing: the off-screen dialog box hypothesis is wrong. When flipping through the different menues in the "project settings" window, they all open except score project prefs. I can open it on a new file created on this laptop though.

    Hello.
After submit to App Store i received message: "Please ensure that you are changing your "Code Signing Identity" to "iPhone Distribution" and your "Code Signing Provisioning Profile" to your distribution profile in your TARGET build settings - not the project build settings."
