PS installation confusion

Hello,
I am installing a PS Financials 9.1 system on OEL5.5 servers. I have two separate machines for the database and for the application server. I got to the part of creating the PeopleSoft database (hopefully not missing anything). This, however, is where I get confused. I'm supposed to use the PeopleSoft Database Configuration utility found in PS_HOME, but if I understand this correctly, this should be executed on the database server? What if PS_HOME and the Database are on two separate machines?
When running the utility I get prompted for paths like ORACLE_HOME - no problem there, since I can point to the AppServer db client home and bin.
Then it asks for the oracle init files - here I am stumped, there are no init files on the AppServer side. Am I supposed to just copy the files from my application server PS_HOME to the database machine and run from there?
Can someone shed a bit of light to the whole database creation?
Thank you,
Honza
P.S. a bit of rambling, PeopelSoft is meant to be a multi-tier architecture, so why does the documentation basically assume everything is being installed on the same machine? There is a similar problem with installing the Workstation for a unix server, the files just don't exist lol.
Edit:
I should add to this, the Database Configuration utility needs psconfig.sh before running, leading me to believe it needs to be executed on the Application server

If you are planning to use Database Wizard configuration, you have no choice, you must install the Peopletools and Application onto the database server (even if you plan to use an other physical server to host appserver). This is one of the biggest issue within DBWizard. Few months ago I wrote an article about that : http://gasparotto.blogspot.com/2009/12/db-wizard-850-for-oracle-on-linux.html
In your case, that'd much better to create database manually, I mean install Peopletools/Application/Oracle client onto your app server, install Oracle server software onto your db server, then copy the necessary scripts from the first to the second server and run them from there.

  • [SOLVED] xmonad installation - confused (?)

After recovering from a failed xmonad installation, I thought it would be a good idea to post this..
Again, to everyone who helped with my other thread, I'm sorry if this is stupid.
Every guide on installing xmonad is out of date. Or everyone that I have found anyway. I have already "sudo pacman -S xmonad" and installed it, but where do I go from here?
I have tried putting "exec xmonad" in my xinitrc, but when I login, xmonad does not start. I get this in terminal when I try running "xmonad" in gnome:
Error detected while loading xmonad configuration file: /home/skai/.xmonad/xmonad.hs
    xmonad.hs:5:18:
        Could not find module `XMonad.Actions.Warp':
Use -v to see a list of the files searched for.
Please check the file for errors.

xmonad: xmessage: executeFile: does not exist (No such file or directory)
X Error of failed request:  BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)
Major opcode of failed request:  2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes)
Serial number of failed request:  7
Current serial number in output stream:  8
It says an error has been detected with my xmonad.hs. I just copied some random config in the hopes of getting this to work, so maybe that has something to do with it.
After that it says xmonad-i386-linux: executeFile does not exist.. I don't know anything about that. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?
    Edit ---------------------------------------~~~~
I deserve at least one reply, no?
I have seen this problem on forums everywhere, but people either get it fixed automagically they talk to someone on IRC and figure it out. I'm not a very lucky guy, and I don't know any IRC channels.
All I'm really looking for is an installation/configure guide for xmonad, if anybody has one, please post.

Are you sure it did not start? What happaned? You get an empty screen?

Dont use random configs found somewhere on the net. Start from the default one and extend it to your needs.
Every guide on installing xmonad is out of date.
A bit bold statement. I see nothing wrong with this one: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xmonad
I suggest remove everything from your .xmonad dir and start over.
    Also, dont be impatient.

  • CS3 Installation Confusion

Ok, this question is probably a simple one to answer, but I just bought a MacBook Pro os x with Snow Leopard to replace my ... Windows Vista laptop, and I have already purchased CS3 Web Premium (I had it installed on my vista). I'm trying to install CS3 on my new Mac, but I can't find the setup to start the installation anywhere in the Web Premium dvd folders, and the setup won't start on its own when I insert the dvd.
What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something when I look through the folders? Do I need to install an application of some kind to get this going?
I've read the Read Me on the installation process for the Mac, but I can't find the Setup Mac OS folder it mentions, or any folder that will install CS3. Did I overlook something?
    Thank you!
    Nicole

You cannont install a Windows version on a Mac unless you install Windows first. You're only other choice is to buy a crossplatform upgrade to CS4
and you'll need to do so directly through Adobe.

    Hi Folks,
If someone tries to install a program that is already installed, he is presented with a message telling him to uninstall the previous version from Add/Remove programs in control panel.
There is no "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS" in control panel for Vista,Windows 7 or Windows 8!
Can we please have it re-worded for these operating systems.
If this is not the right place to report problems with MSI please pass it on to right people.

It's not a matter of failure, it's the idea of training people to associate the Trash with unmounting a volume. The Trash is a mechanism for the permanent deletion of your data, and designed to appear as such. Apple haters used to laugh at this..."Eject by dragging to the Trash? And you say the Mac is intuitive? Ha ha ha..." And they were right. It's better to teach ways that actually make more sense.
The great thing about all the newer ways is that they are easily discoverable, you don't have to remember or figure out that you have to virtually trash your disk. A new user would naturally expect to find an Eject command or button, and there they are in plain sight.

I agree about the installer volume behavior...and Apple made it worse in Mountain Lion by putting the volumes on the bottom of the Finder sidebar, which is often out of view. Incidentally, drag-to-trash does not seem to work with volumes in the sidebar, but the other Eject methods do.
The "installer problem" is another reason I love the other methods much more than dragging to the trash. To eject multiple volumes by selecting them and pressing Command-E is much faster than the time taken to gather them up with the mouse and drag all of them to a specific spatial target.

  • Can't load drivers for Canon MP610 onto new iMac since loading Leopard

Hello, all you amazingly helpful folks.
Bought new iMac + Canon MP610 yesterday. Successfully installed printer on 3 Macs and a PC, and all was well.
Then--discovered that Leopard DVD was hiding in the box. So, installed Leopard uneventfully. Then--found that scanner wouldn't respond to any commands, and subsequently, I could no longer print from the new iMac ONLY (other Macs still printing fine).
So--I deleted all Canon printer-related folders on the new iMac, and tried to re-load the drivers from the Canon CD. MP Drivers won't load. Keep getting FAILURE message. Tried re-booting, unplugging, in all combinations. Printer still works from the other Macs. Maybe loading Leopard after the original MP610 installation confused things??
    What to do next?
Also--NO DRIVERS available for MP610 on Canon web page.
    Any assistance much appreciated!!!
    Thank you.

You may have already done this so forgive me if you have, but I would try deleting the contents of the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinters folder. I would then navigate to the /Library/Receipts and delete the Canon MP610 xxx.pkg file.
Then control-click on the Printers list in Print & fax and click on "Reset printing system..."
Then empty the Trash, unplug the MP610 USB and restart the iMac.
Then I would install the MP610 v6.91 OS X driver. I found it via the Canon Australia web site (http://www.canon.com.au/products/allin_one_printers/all_in_one_printers/mp610support.aspx).
Once the installation is complete, reconnect the MP610 to the iMac and wait. The printer should automatically appear in the Print & Fax application.
Also, in future, you should be posting this on the Leopard printing forum...

  • Event Creator task doesn't work well

    Hi everybody,
I'm using the 46C R/3 system, and I want to develope a MIGO and MIRO's Cancel funcionality to the same WF.
What do you think about ?
    I'm testing the following solution:
1- I've created an Triggering event in the MIGO Sub-WF (That's called by MIGO EXIT on its Cancel's SAVE Momment) named ReexecuteCanceledMIGO passing an variable to say that this pass is to Reexecute MIGO.
2- I've created a MIRO Sub-WF. Even it had been called...and this MIRO task can be in User's inbox on SBWP, Another user can Cancel MIGO and it will re-start a Goods receipt process that will start from the Triggering event on MIGO Sub-WF.
3-When it occurs, I put a logic in the end of the MIGO Sub-WF: If the value of the control variable (passed though the Triggering event) is X, I put an Process control task, type 7 (Terminate WF, and his father can continue), that terminate this MIGO's Sub-WF.
But this logic is wrong, because when the user Cancel the Goods receipt on MIGO, this MIGO's Sub-WF give error and its Event linkage is set to diactivated.
Why is it happen ? Is it because the object is called by the same Key, even by another event ?

Nothing in there, Philip . . . the folder was empty.
In case it's relevant, I found the installation confusing. The zip file went to my desktop and when I opened it, I dragged the app file to Applications and ran it - is this the correct proceedure?

No.  Your TWAIN drivers are separate than the Image Capture Device drivers that would be installed by the printer driver update.
Also, no way of getting rid of the badge notification in system preferences.  App store is not listed.
There is no law that you must update software just because it is available.  There is no way to get rid of the red badge, but you don't have to do the upgrade.

    >a) Would going into the same user in Safe Mode have fixed it?
not alone, unless the problem was with a component instead of an installer confusion in the temp folder.
    >b) I gave up on clearing temp folders a long time ago because of a lack of results. Explain to me the steps of clearing temp folders, maybe I've always done it wrong
I usually leave mine alone too- well every now and then. just delete all the files from them you can (c:\docs & settings\user\local settings\temp, c:\temp, c:\windows\temp)
usually there's no problem but occasionally an installer will leave part of itself in temp where by odd coincidence (or not so odd, because there are relatively few install apps that systems use - wise and install shield probably 2 of the most used) has a file that's got the same name as one the new installer expects. so it starts reading from that one instead. now the whole install gets screwy.
    >However I have seen some success with grabbing the hidden Install Wizard folder and dragging it to the desktop, doing the install, the putting it back.
yes, me too. saves time when troubleshooting and the app that fails to install keeps deleting the install files! :)
    > The way I see it, just get on a new admin install the thing, then delete the user. Who cares "why?" if it works, right?
oh, i misunderstood. i thought you were advocating KEEPING that new admin user as the main user. that's what i mean is a pita having to move settings over from the old acct. to the new one... i guess that CAN work, sometimes, but not always. some apps (not sure if photoshop is among them) want you to install under the user account that will be running it.

The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occured in the application at location 0x00401233.
This error message will pop up whenever there is a pdf file either opened OR listed in the folder I have opened. If I have a pdf file saved on my desktop, the popup message will keep appearing if I am on my desktop. If I have a pdf file opened over 2 minutes, the message will appear again, even opening up multiple files at once will pop up 5 error messages (1 for every file).
I have the following (if it's needed to know):
    XP Professional
    Adobe Acrobat 4.0
    Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX
    Adobe Flash Player 12 Plugin
    Adobe reader XI (11.0.06)
    and using MS 2003
I just updated the reader just when I rebooted my pc from running a virus scan & it's still doing it. It's been going on for at least since last October. I deal with pdf's all day cause I homeschool my 3rd grade son so I need to get this fixed....wasn't even sure if this was a Adobe issue either! lol
    Thanks!

I had the same error with a similar configuration, namely running Adobe Reader 11.0.8 alongside a full version of Adobe Acrobat 8 on XP Professional SP3. Windows XP would raise a dialog-box with this 0xc0000409 error every time I hovered over a .pdf file.
The problem appears to be caused by the Abobe Reader X11 installer confusing the dual configuration with a previous version of Abobe Acrobat.
Fortunately, the solution appears to be extremely simple:
    Open      Adobe Reader 11
    Select     Edit | Preferences...
    Select     General  under Categories list
Click on   Select Default PDF Handler
Select     Adobe Reader X1(11.0.n) from the combo-box, where n is your version (and may be the only version displayed)
Click on   Apply  , which will reconfigure the Windows XP configuration, such as context-sensitive menus and registry settings
    Restart computer to complete changes...
PS:  It worked for me, so I thought I would share...

  • VS2008 express SQL2008 Develper vs. latest VS, SQL Express

    Hi
I have an older desktop with SQL2008 developer version.  That's great because I'm wanting to do SSRS stuff.  However, my VS2008 only has BI templates.  When I select Other Project Types --> VS --> there is only a Blank Solution.
If I Search Online Templates, it finds nothing.              .................     I also have a laptop where I have installed VS2010, VS2012, VS2014 all express.
Problem with these versions is that express does not include BI, even though I've read places where it should.   I did install VS2014 Express with advanced features.       ...........  At this point, I just want
an environment where I can play.   Either fix VS2008 express to add templates or preferably a later version that allows BI.   My laptop is running Windows 7.   My SQL 2008 developer version is only for Windows XP, Vista (not Windows
7).   Just an FYI, why I can't install my SQL2008 developer on my laoptop.  Any quick suggestions would be wonderful.  Trying to practice to get a J.O.B.  Yes I'm on the lower end of the scale.  Thank YOU!
    Barb61

    Hi Barb61,
According to your description, you want to use the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) for SQL 2008 developer version. Right?
In Reporting Services, BIDS is a shell of Visual Studio. It's not a part of Visual Studio. Please refer to the link below:
    Introducing Business Intelligence Development Studio
So if you want to install BIDS for SQL 2008, you need to run the installation of SQL Server 2008 and select BIDS in feature support. As Olaf mentioned, you can install SQL 2008 with latest services pack on Windows 7.Please refer to:
Editions and Components of SQL Server 2008
Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2008
If you want to use the BI templates in later version, you should install the SQL Server Data Tool for Visual Studio later version. You can download here:

    Hi everybody,
I would like to update to Air 2.6 but I get confused when I read information on the web. I am using MacBook Pro iOS 10.6.5 and flash CS 5 for apps development.
    1. Is installation of  Air 2.6 a simple step by using the Air 2.6 installer (http://get.adobe.com/tw/air/) ? I read some articles saying they need to copy and replace the files inside Flash directory.
    2. Can I still use the old packager after installing Air 2.6?
    3. I am now currently making an app using the old packager (over 80% finish). if I get updated to Air2.6, do I need to rebuild my program or I can use the new   Air 2.6 to open the old .fla?
    4. If I build an app by using old packager and get sale on apps store. After that I change to Air 2.6 for modifying the old apps to make new version. Can the app share the same apps-id, which means that they can be submitted as a update version of the old one?
I have read some articles on the web but I get confused with the above questions. I am an amature app developer who just know some programming.

There is no official way, that I know of, to overlay AIR 2.6 on to Flash CS5.  However, there have been threads created that describe the manual process (see this post.) You can also upgrade to Flash CS 5.5 which does include AIR 2.6.  Finally, its also possible to compile and build AIR apps using the available command line tools supplied with the SDK.
    2. Can I still use the old packager after installing Air 2.6?
I don't believe this is possible.  Because of API and UI changes I believe you need a new packager.  This is included in Flash CS 5.5
    3. I am now currently making an app using the old packager (over 80% finish). if I get updated to Air2.6, do I need to rebuild my program or I can use the new   Air 2.6 to open the old .fla?
If I understand the question correctly, you should just be able to use AIR 2.6.  I'll confirm and let you know if that is incorrect.

  • Arch, Arch installer and Sda/Sdb confusion

I have been attemping to install Arch and get kdemod up and running and I have been running into some issues.
Because of this, I have been reinstalling it quite a few times to get it to work.
My first main issue is this:
I have 3 physical hard drives in my computer.
    A 1TB Sata drive
    A 250GB IDe drive
    A 80GB Sata drive.
For some reason, 75% of the time, when I boot from the Arch Installer cd, it detects my 1TB sata drive as Sda and the 250GB ide drive as Sdb
the other 25% of the time it detects the 250GB drive as Sda and the 1TB as Sdb
When it detects it as Sda, I am able to usually boot into Arch after it's installed.
When it detects it as Sdb, it will "sometimes" boot into arch.
The rest of the time, it seems to change it's mind and think that the 1TB drive is once again Sda and the 250GB ide drive is Sdb, which confuses the boot loader (I think)
Thanks in advance for any help

I'm not sure as to why is "randomly"detecting the drives wrong ... having said that this is what I would do if confronted with that situation.
    1. Disable in my BIOS the two small drivers.
    2. Install Arch in the 1TB HDD ( I assume that's what you really want)
    3. Once Arch is properly installed (you of courses reboot the machine to test that ) I would edit my /etc/fstab file and add the other drives. Like
    /dev/sdb1 /home ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sdb2 /backups ext4 defaults 0 1
and that should give you a consistent and working system.
    I hope this helps.
    R.
Edit: Just one thing ... in step 3 you have to reboot your system and re-enable in the BIOS the other HDDs you disabled in step 1
