VS2008 express SQL2008 Develper vs. latest VS, SQL Express

Hi
I have an older desktop with SQL2008 developer version.  That's great because I'm wanting to do SSRS stuff.  However, my VS2008 only has BI templates.  When I select Other Project Types --> VS --> there is only a Blank Solution.
If I Search Online Templates, it finds nothing.              .................     I also have a laptop where I have installed VS2010, VS2012, VS2014 all express.
Problem with these versions is that express does not include BI, even though I've read places where it should.   I did install VS2014 Express with advanced features.       ...........  At this point, I just want
an environment where I can play.   Either fix VS2008 express to add templates or preferably a later version that allows BI.   My laptop is running Windows 7.   My SQL 2008 developer version is only for Windows XP, Vista (not Windows
7).   Just an FYI, why I can't install my SQL2008 developer on my laoptop.  Any quick suggestions would be wonderful.  Trying to practice to get a J.O.B.  Yes I'm on the lower end of the scale.  Thank YOU!
Barb61

Hi Barb61,
According to your description, you want to use the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) for SQL 2008 developer version. Right?
In Reporting Services, BIDS is a shell of Visual Studio. It's not a part of Visual Studio. Please refer to the link below:
Introducing Business Intelligence Development Studio
So if you want to install BIDS for SQL 2008, you need to run the installation of SQL Server 2008 and select BIDS in feature support. As Olaf mentioned, you can install SQL 2008 with latest services pack on Windows 7.Please refer to:
Editions and Components of SQL Server 2008
Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2008
If you want to use the BI templates in later version, you should install the SQL Server Data Tool for Visual Studio later version. You can download here:
Download SQL Server Data Tools

SSDT and Visual Studio versions
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • UnsatisfiedLinkError for JNI DLL compiled with vs2008 express

    I am trying to create a JNI DLL using Visual Studio 2008 Express.
    I have read several places where -MD causes JNI problems but from what I've read, I need this option to create the DLL properly.
    The DLL does get built cleanly and I have created a simple C application (obviously not calling the JNI functions themselves but the other functions that are in the DLL). This application runs with no problems.
    As soon as I try to use the DLL with JNI, I get an UnsatisfiedLinkError: Can't find dependent libraries.
    I have used Dependency Walker on the C application I created and it finds no errors; however, if I run it on the DLL itself, it does report an error trying to find msvcr90.dll which is in the winsxs directory under c:\windows so I assume this is the problem dependency.
    I am running this on the same computer that has Visual Studio 2008 Express SP1 installed. This is a Windows XP Service Pack 3 computer running JDK 1.6.0_14.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Right or wrong, I include some library files into my link statement (it's the only way I could find to clear up your question). I link in some standard window libraries as well as some of my own DLL whose functions are used by this DLL. I use a makefile to build my code.
    Here is a compile statement and the link statement for my DLL:

  • Ms Sql Management Studio 2014 Express + Azure

    Hi everyone
    I have SSMS 2014 Express and I use Azure SQL DB with SQL Database Update V12 (preview).
    Now I have the restricted access to my DB from ssms, but there (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2014/12/18/sql-server-2014-management-studio-updated-support-for-the-latest-azure-sql-database-update-v12-preview.aspx) talks about the enhanced
    functionality. I can not find this update for ssms. Please help me, where I can get this update?

    I have installed MS SQL Management Studio 2014. After that I have installed CU5 from link in your previous post.
    There was no change. After your last post I have installed
    CU6, but again there was no change.
    Now I have this:
    MS SQL Management Studio about window:
    In Azure:
    I'm sorry for russian language in screenshot, I don't know how to change it to english.
    No error occurs.
    GUI can not do anything with the database
    in Azure. I can only see the list
    of tables, and I can do a sql queries.
    But in the local database in the GUI
    all the features are present
    Hi AndrewG42,
    I notice that you are using the latest version of SQL Azure database (13.0.15). I suspect there’s no update in SSMS 2014 for this version of SQL Azure database.
    In other words, these features (select top 1000 rows, table designer, etc) are only going to be present with SSMS connecting to Azure v12 which version number is 12.0.2000.8.
    Personally, regarding to above issue, I recommend you submit a feedback at
    http://feedback.azure.com/forums/34192--general-feedback. Your feedback is valuable for us to improve our products and increase the level of service provided.

  • Migrate from SQL2000 (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS) To SQL 2008 (Arabic_CI_AS ) for Arabic

    Dear Support,
    We have SQL Server 2000 with collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS. We have the data indexed in Arabic.
    We have an archiving solution (File360 from OpenText) which is connected to SQL server database and we were able to
    read arabic through the system.
    Now we need to upgrade SQL server from SQL2000 to SQL2008 for the latest version of archiving solution (which supports
    SQL2008 -> SQL2012)
    We created new database in SQL2008 with collation Arabic_CI_AS. Then We migrated the data using Backup-Restore method
    into this database. We found the database collation converted to Arabic_CI_AS from SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, but
    the column collation remain same (ie SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS).
    With SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation, the output for "select ID_1032 from EP13_10 where ID_14=422394" was in
    ???? format.
    We altered the column collation manually using the sql
    "alter table ep13_10 alter column ID_1032 char(250) COLLATE ARABIC_CI_AS"
    Then also the result was in same ???? format. But we could able to read and write arabic for new records.
    We need a solution to convert our old data to Arabic_CI_AS collation.
    Is there any alternate way of migrating the data ?
    Kindly guide us how to proceed.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hello,
    The effective collation is define on column level, the Server/database collations are only default values.
    The backup is a real 1:1 copy of the database and when you restore the old database to a newer server, you can a again a real 1:1 copy and that's why the column collation remains the same.
    One Option is to create a new database with the required collation. Restore the old database under a different name; then you can copy the data from the old database into the new one.

  • Bug in Oracle SQL Developer

    I had Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.0.53 and when I did a "Check for Update" it said no updates found, even though SQL Developer 1.5.1 was released on June 9, 2008. So obviously this is a bug you need to fix.
    OK - So I downloaded the latest Oracle SQL Developer and installed it and when I opened it up, all my connections were gone!!!
    That's another bug you need to fix.

    See Does check for updates install 1.5.1 for some suggestions for Check for Update.
    For installing 1.5.1 and then losing your connections, did you install in a new directory or over the top of 1.5.0? If yes, then reinstall again into a new directory. If not, did migrate your settings from 1.5.0? Without doing that 1.5.1 won't find your existing connections.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services Integration

    If anyone has been considering looking at SQL Services Reporting Service, a business intelligence tool from Microsoft, you will be glad to know that I have just submitted a project to code share that provides integration between SSRS and the Plumtree portal.
    In brief, the integration code implemements the iAuthenticationExtension and iAuthorizationExtension interfaces, allowing SSRS to authenticate plumtree users and authorize them based on plumtree groups.
    It might be a few days before it is available on code share, as it has to be manually reviewed.
    Caveat: it works in Firefox/Safari, but not quite so nice as it does in IE.  This is a Microsoft BI tool, after all. :)

    Hi, Tim.
    The description and questions were brought up in an email conversation
    with a developer:
    There seems to be a disconnect between the Plumtree environment and Microsoft's SQL Server Reporting Services.
    The present configuration: .Net version of Plumtree 5.0.4 suite of servers Windows 2000 Server SP4 (fully patched) SQL Server 2000 with latest patches SQL Server Reporting Services 2000 with latest patches
    The app in question gathers SSRS reporting criteria via .NET web pages.
    The disconnect occurs at the call to SSRS.
    Without the gateway - the call to SSRS completes and a web page containing the report is displayed.
    With the gateway - the call to SSRS does not complete and no report is displayed.
    I understand this is a problem that has been reported on the DevCenter.Plumtree.Com site by Tim Larson of Mission to the World
    URL =http://portal.plumtree.com/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_0_9690_0_0_47/http;/prodgadget14.plumtree.com/publishedcontent/publish/sc___code_share/code_source/articles/sql_server_reporting_services_integration_.html?qid=84973886&rank=2
    Can the call to SSRS be accomplished if gatewaying is turned on for this app? - Is there a workaround? - not gatewaying the app is not an option

  • Installing Visual c++ express and plugin wizard

    Hi I am new to SDK and trying to get everything set up so I can begin development of an acrobat plugin in visual c++ studio express 2008.
    I found the plugin wizard in the acrobat 7 sdk (absent from sdk 8) but I am having difficulty running it. I am getting the error "The system cannot find the file specified" after selecting the template under the new project menu.
    I manually installed this plugin in the directory:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\Express\VCProjects
    Anyone else run into this problem or have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Thanks for the fast replies!
    Leonard: I would prefer to use Acrobat 8 SDK. Is this supported by VS2008 express?
    PDL: Visual Studio app wizard is mysteriously absent from the version I downloaded. But I will try downloading again.
    Thanks again

  • Anyone successfully set up connection pool in s1as with ms sql server 2000?

    As subject. Since I have seen a lot of posts about the NoSuchMethodException issue with various dbms providers, and the only "official information" I found thru different forums, google, different sun/javasoft sites and forums are this:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fsunone%2F8172&zone_32=NoSuchMethodException&wholewords=on
    Which is wonderfully vague and provide not-so-much useful information...
    As for the information and suggestion posted by other forum members, most or all of them have experience with setting up Oracle, DB2, mySQL, etc., not aimed for MS SQL Server 2000 (you may think, I am just asking for it running MS SQL server with Java... oh well, not my choice)
    I still haven't seen any positive feedbacks on how this exception was caused and how to resolve it. I have literally exhausted all leads on how to fix this issue, so right now I'm only interested to know whether anyone in the forum actually have a successful connection pool set up with MS SQL server 2000.
    My platform:
    w2k sp3
    SunOne app server, update1, JDK 1.4.1
    latest MS SQL 2000 JDBC driver
    This fails with the NoSuchMethodException error:
    try {
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) ic.lookup("test_db");
    con = ds.getConnection();
    System.out.println( "con is created -> " + con );
    } catch (Exception ex) {
    System.out.println( "failed -> " + ex.getMessage() );
    This works just fine:
    try {
    Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
    con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1433;DatabaseName=testdb;SelectMethod=cursor", "username", "password");
    System.out.println( "con is created -> " + con );
    } catch (Exception ex) {
    System.out.println( "failed is fucked -> " + ex.getMessage() );
    thanks,

    Hi,
    Thanks for pointing out that article, I did not find it previously. After following the directions in the artile and your advise, now dbping seems to be able to connect to SQL server.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi all,
    When I try to check the latest updates, Sql Developer (2.1.0.63) says it can't access to Internet in order to search for updates.
    The credentials that I gave are correct (proxy, port, username, password) : when I click on the "Test Proxy" button, it says everything is OK.
    But when I click on the "OK" button, it won't connect.
    Then I click on the "Cancel" button, and check the details and get the following stack trace:

  • Sql Developer not connecting to the DB

    Hi
    I have latest Oracle Sql Developer 3.2.1 installed, and I cannot connect to database Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition.. I typed correct SID, port number, user and password and it won't connect saying: "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection. Vendor code: 17002"
    Strangely I am able to ping and telnet to the Database machine with the DB port
    ping <hostname> got reply
    telnet <hostname> <port> got connected.
    The TNS Listener of the Database is up as I am able to connect to the DB from another computer.
    Do we need to setup anything extra to connect to a DB?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Item 4 in the following relies on my Windows 7 environment variables. Did you also try...
    1. lsnrctl status
    2. lsnrctl services
    3. tnsping <tnsalias>
    4. sqlplus sys/<pswd>@//%COMPUTERNAME%:<port>/<sid>.%USERDNSDOMAIN% as sysdba
    The syntax in (4) requires specification of the SERVICE_NAME rather than the SID.
    My fully qualified SERVICE_NAME happens to be <sid>.%USERDNSDOMAIN%
    My fully qualified hostname is %COMPUTERNAME%.%USERDNSDOMAIN%, but %COMPUTERNAME% also works for me.
    See if using the literal values of these variables in the SQL Developer connection definition helps.
    Regards,
    Gary

  • Which service pack should I install if I have SQL Server 2012 RTM version 11.0.2100.60

    I read the recommendation "SQL Server 2012 RTM is no longer in mainstream support. If you wish to continue getting fixes, you should absolutely plan on migrating to the SP2 branch;" from
    http://blogs.sqlsentry.com/team-posts/latest-builds-sql-server-2012/. I am not quite sure how I can migrate from RTM to SP2. Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
    Yes RTM version of SQL Server 2012 is not supported. You have to apply SQL Server 2012 SP2 below link will help you in doing it
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/25632.how-to-install-sql-server-2012-sp2-on-standalone-sql-server-instance.aspx
    Above link also has link to download SQL Server 2012 SP2

      8        as number
      9      )
    10    )

    Now I'll try to see what are the differences between the two installations.
    Thanks Dan and Marco for looking into this.
