PSD to Jpeg

I had a saved PSD file and I opened it to edit it. I flattened it and hit save by mistake. How can I go back to PSD if all the "step back" is not going all the way back to PSD?
Thanks

One tiny possibility:  Look in your History panel and see if the initial snapshot it created when you opened the file is of any help.  It will be listed right at the top.
Other than that, you're out of luck if you don't have a backup.
You may want to increase your History states setting.  It won't help you now, but it might if you run into something similar in the future.  It's in the Preferences - Performance dialog.

  • After 9.0.2 Update on PS-CS2 Can't Save as PSD or jpeg

After startup of my Photoshop CS2 (WinXP), I got a notice of an update of 9.0.2, so I installed it. Now when I try to save files as PSDs or JPEGs, they end up becoming 5CM files, which I can't open.  I was very content with CS2 before the update.  Is there a way to uninstall the 9.0.2 update, or do I have to uninstall the whole CS2 and reinstall it?  Or is there another fix?  Help is much appreciated; thanks.

Resolved.  After updating to 9.0.2, I edited an image and saved it as a PSD, but when naming the file I put in a "3.5x4.5cm" in the file name, and it saved it as an unopenable 5CM file.  I just now took the same inage and saved it as a PSD, but omitted the "3.5x4.5cm" in the file name and it saved it just fine as a PSD.  The same also for the JPEG.  The problem had to be in the ".5cm" ending of the file name.  Doing the 9.0.2 update just happened to be the timing of the file name problem.

  • PSD to JPEG - Converts back after closing.....

Trying to convert photo from .psd to .jpeg.   I "flatten the layers" and "save as" jpeg......but as soon as i close out of image and then reopen it converts back to .psd???? Can anyone help?

Okay, so you are using some version of Photoshop Elements?
In PE Organizer find your file that you just saved and right-click on it. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of window that pops up and select "show properties." This will tell you what format it is. Also, when you "save as" make sure that you are including it in Organizer, otherwise you will not see it and will only find your .psd file. Alternatively, you could search for wherever it is saved on your hard drive and double-click it to open it.

  • Convert psd to jpeg

    Dag,
    Alvast hartelijk dank,
    Johan

JPEG is a visually lossy compression and even at the best quality setting there will be artefacts. Your file will never become bigger, because the algorithm already is at its optimum. So far nothing is wrong here and even if it were technically possible, a larger file wouldn't necessarily mean better quality. If that's an issue, you simply need to use a different image format like a compressed TIFF to send your file out e.g. to a print facility.

  • PSE Will not open and .psd or .jpeg files

Please help, I have been using PSE 11 with success to edit hundreds of pics.  However now all of a sudden it will not open any .psd or .jpeg files.  When I go to PSE menu - open a finder window opens up and when I go to choose a file, the open finder window goes disapears and then the menu bar gets faded out so I cannot access any of the menu options in PSE.  There are have not been any PSE warnings or messages. I have to use force quit on PSE.  I have restarted my computer and even uninstalled and reinstalled PSE 11 and this still did not solve the issue.  I am running OSX 10.9 with 16 GB of memory and a 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo.

That was BRILLIANT how you somehow knew I had the coverflow view open.  I tried to close the coverflow first thing but PSE closed down again so I went through the steps again previously suggested .........in my Finder - Library - Preferences - and deleted the follow again: (com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist / Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Paths / Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Settings)  I was then able to close the coverflow view and the combination of tweeks helped.  I can now get back to work after three days of headaches trying to solve this puzzle.
    THANK YOU!!!

  • Drag & Drop or Duplicate layers from PSD to JPEG when creating action

    Hey everyone,
I have been trying the last few hours to create an instagram Polaroid action for my JPEG files.
I have the picture, and i have the PSD file with a few layers such as virulence gradient map etc...
When creating the action, first I drag all the layers from my PSD to the JPEG file. Problem is, every time when i finish recording the action, photoshop doesnt seem to know or understand the layers i moved.
It keeps running, without copying the layers.
I tried to do it the other way around - recording - opening the PSD - dragging the JPEG (which this time worked)
but then, when saving the file, it cant be saved as JPEG, because i last modified the psd file. and it will not work when doing batch because i opened specific JPEG when recording.
I have no problem saving the PSD as PNG, then just running it which will work fine.
But problem is when flattening, then i just lost the layers which create the effect.
    Any help?
    Thanks

    anyone?

  • Random color issue when saving psd as jpeg

Hello, y'all. I finally got these images I'm working on to look right and they are not saving to jpeg correctly. It's very strange because at first only one of them would look right after being saved, and then I got two of them to save right, and now I have just two more before I can be done already and I just can't figure out what to do. They are flattened psd files. They are in the colorspace srgb. They are black and white. They basically look like they are not saving with the last few changes I made in photoshop. While I have them open in photoshop and save them as jpegs, they appear to be identical to the psd file. But when I go to bridge they look incorrect. Same problem as I had before with the other two files when viewing in bridge. But these last two....argh. Can anyone troubleshoot this for me? In the example screenshot, you can see the image on the left is the jpeg, and although it looks fine, it is not consistent with the psd on the right.

If you go into the Edit menu in Bridge and choose "Color Settings", are they synchronized?

  • Linked PSD vs JPEG

I make a monthly publication that is uploaded to a third party site as a PDF. Basically, our clients are not tech savvy so I need the best looking but fastest loading PDF I can get.
For print I usually use a linked PSD file instead of a JPEG for quality and because it just makes editing easier. For this project, I am still using linked PSD files for the majority of images. Would using JPEGs decrease the overall size of my PDF?
May sound like newbie question, but I keep finding conflicting opinions on the best way to handle PDFs. So I'm throwing this out there.
    What's your opinion?

    What's your opinion?
It might, but only slightly. TIF would be a better option than JPEG.
Why not compare? Run the process twice, once with PSD and once with TIFF.
My prediction is either no space saved or so little space saved that the effort is not worth it.

  • .psd to .jpeg as 'for web' or not?

So far when converting my photos from RAW CR2 > DNG > psd in Photoshop, when I make the final conversion to jpeg for importing into PE11, I've always used the Save As .jpeg which makes a file (for 2000x1333px) of something under 1 MB, eg just now a 4.4MB psd file saved at a Quality of 10 (out of a max of 12), ie 'high quality', comes in at 670kb.  My RAW files after conversion to psd have a res of 240px/inch.  Saving as jpeg this way still gives 240px/inch (and the dimensions as above).
But the alternative which I use for posting images on the web or for email is to use Photoshop's "Save for Web and Devices" (ending with a res of 72 px / inch) and at 'high quality', ie 60% of what's available (I follow Deek McClelland here, as in most matters!) comes in at about 450kb.
But often the difference is greater, ie as between 900 kb or so and 3- or 400kb.
I haven't tried the experiment, but maybe I need to think differently when it comes to video.   I'm mindful of what Steve says about the *dimensions* when importing still photos to PE11, but it's still possible to save a small file dimension-wise in higher or lower resolutions.  No?
So do you recommend bringing in a file (no larger than 2000x1333 px of course) with a size of nearly 1 Mb or making it about half that size?  In other words, how does the res of the imported jpeg affect the final appearance of the video?   For DVD use I make all my vids at m2t.   But by the way, my external Blu-ray burner just arrived this morning.  Rushing to finish this project so I can try it and let you know the results.
So maybe I'll be going to AVCHD soon!  Wow.
    Thanks for guidance
    Brian

When you say "bringing in a file (no larger than 2000x1333 px ",you're talking about a photo, right?
The resolution of the photo you add to your video project doesn't affect the final appearance of the video a whole lot. Although some people have found that the closer the photo is to the final resolution of the video, the better looking your results. This is because you can do a better job of resizing your photos (using the bicubic sharpener) than the program does. The program just throws away pixels. If you use the bicubic sharpener when you reduce the size of your photos, you create a sharper photo. Make sense?
The best format and resolution to output your video-for-web at depends on where you're going to post the file. If you're posting to a site like Vimeo or YouTube, you can post a 1920x1080 AVCHD and the site will re-encode and optimize the file for web streaming.
However, if you're posting video to your own personal web site, you need to consider things like the best format and resolution for streaming your video. If you post a 1920x1080 video, it may look great -- but it may stream so slowly that no one will be able to watch it online.

  • Novice needing help PSD vs JPEG

I am changing from PSE8 to PSE12 and realized upon trying 12 today that PSE12 automatically saves my edited pictures in PSD format where PSE8 saved them in JPEG.  I don't use the organizer for catalogs, instead opening up folders where I've saved my pictures (e.g. Christmas 2013)and editing the photos I like in PSE8 and then saving them back in that same folder.  It may not be the 'right' way, but it works for me.  The picture I tried using PSE12 on, saved in the PSD format which isn't viewable in those folders (windows picture viewer is the default).  I truly only use PSE for improving pics I like and want to share/email, use as my desktip background, post to Facebook, and print for myself or gifts via uploading to a photo printing service (Mpix, Walmart, etc.)  Is there a way to have PSE12 default to saving as JPEG or should I be saving everything as PSD?  I get that PSD only works with PS and takes more space, but doesn't cause loss of quality of the pictures the way JPEG does ~ I'm just not sure it's important for the way I use PSE.  Help for a novice?

Saving a PSD as well as a JPEG is really a good habit to get into. Just in case you don't like how the picture looks once its saved, you can go back into photoshop by loading up the PSD and edit any sliders or layers or whatever, where as when you save to a jpeg all of the layer info gets lost as it essentially "flattens" the layers into one picture. If that makes any sense.
The way I do it is I have a folder that contains my PSD's and then my JPEG's saved into the folder where you would be looking at the pictures. For example, in your My Pictures folder I would have a folder called PSDs and a folder called Christmas 2013.
    Hope that makes sense

  • Workflow how - convert psd to jpeg...

Ok so in automator I have the "get specified finder items" and I have my 4 .psd (photoshop files) and then I have the next action be "convert image to... jpeg" now what is the next step to put these in a specified folder and place? What action would that be?
sorry I am sort of new...
    thanks
    TM

Are you using an action you've downloaded specifically for Photoshop? The Preview Automator action (which is installed by default) won't convert from PSD. The action is designed to ignore unrecognized file formats, so it wouldn't have thrown an error to tell you this. Oddly enough, Automator is fully capable of converting PSD and a variety of other formats that the action's author must have been unaware of. Check out this recent thread on the subject:

You'd just have to swap out TGA for PSD.

  • How best to convert psd to jpeg?

I am using pse9,  I resized photos with Perfect Resize and they are now in psd files. I copied them to a flash drive and tried to move them to a converter, but the converter does not recognize them.
    Any help will be appreciated,

If a single file, just do a save as or use Save for Web. For many files, if they're in organizer use File>Export in windows and choose jpg as the format. If not, or if you're on a mac, use File>Process Mulitple Files in the editor.

  • I SELECT A GROUP OF FILES AND GO TO IMAGE PROCESSOR TO CONVERT FROM PSD TO JPEG. THE IMAGE PROCESSOR DOES NOT APPEAR ONLY A BLANK PS SCREEN

How do I find image processor? It does not appear when I go to, tools, photoshop, image processor?

Double click the thumbnails you want in Bridge to open in Photoshop.
You can also first open the Image Processor and select a folder that you keep your files in. You do not have to open them first.

So...can I have Tiger and Lion running on the same MacBookAir?

No.  You'll need to upgrade Adobe CS. If you don't really need the professional features you might find the Photoshop Elements fits the bill.
