PSE 8 Photoshop Bridge vs. PSE 9 Organizer

I was using PSE 8 for Mac then I loaded PSE 9.  The latter is dual platform (good whether one uses Mac or Windows).  However, I was disappointed to find that Photoshop Bridge was replaced by Organizer.  After working with the Organizer, I realize that I prefer PS Bridge.  How can I keep PSE 9 but substitute Bridge for Organizer?
Thanks

Don't use the welcome screen. Go into the PSE 9 folder in applications and launch the editor directly, by using this file instead:
then create dock icons for the editor and for Bridge.  Once a program is open, click its dock icon and choose More Options>Keep in Dock.
To launch bridge now, you'll click the dock icon instead of clicking in the PSE window. That's all. And file formats that you had set bridge to open in PSE will now automatically open in PSE 9 rather than PSE 8. If for some reason that doesn't happen, go to Bridge>Preferences>File Type Associations and change the ones that don't.

  • Windows 7 will not recognize PSE 8 Organizer on External Drive

    Hello:
    Background:
We purchased a Dell Inspiron 560 with Windows 7 from BestBuy to replace the Hewlett Packard Pavilion with Windows XP that was showing problems. My present photo software includes Photo Shop Elements 8 and Nikon NX2. (I intend to use PSE 8 for Nikon NEF (RAW) files and NX2 for JPEG files.)  Geek Squad (GS) transfered the information that was on the HP hard drive to the Dell. All the icons now show on the Dell except for iTunes.  I also gave GS the Photoshop and Nikon disks in case they needed to reload the programs.
The photos are stored on a Western Digital (WD) external drive that was also given to GS to test the transfer.  I organized my files according to the "master programs", e.g., Adobe Photoshop 8 and Nikon NX2 with subfolders for the photos themselves.  Everything worked fine on the former HP computer.
    The situation:
The PSE 8 Edit and NX2 appears to work but not the PSE 8 Organizer.  All folders and subfolders and information in the subfolders are present on the WD drive.  The Nikon software opens and edits all photos including the photos stored in the Adobe Photoshop 8 folder in the WD drive.  I can open a single photo in PSE 8 Edit.  But I cannot activate PSE 8 Organizer where the folders and subfolders are.  When I attempt to activate the Organizer following the prompts, the following statement appears, "The catalog could not be opened. It is either corrupt, or the version is out of date and cannot be updated."  However, I can access them using the NX2 software.
So what do I have to do to activate or reactivate the Organizer?  I could transfer the files from the Adobe folder to the Nikon folder using drag and drop, reinstall PSE 8, and then reintstall the files on the Adobe folder.
Or is there a better way?
    Please help.
    Mp

Without knowing exactly what Geek Squad actually did, its hard to say how to fix this.
Ideally, that way to fix this is to do the following: you would create a backup of your catalog on the old computer. Do this with the Organizer command File->Backup Catalog. Tell PSE to save the backup to the external drive. Then connect the external drive to the new computer, and run the Organizer command File->Restore Catalog.

  • Unable to edit preferences in PSE 10 organizer

    Hi all,
I have searched to see if this topic has been previously posted, so if I have missed it, please forgive me.,,,
Anyone else experiencing not being able to get passed the "loading" msg that appears after attempting to edit preferences in PSE 10 organizer?
    Any solutions?
    Thx
    Teris

    Hi
No I am sorry to report no changes to this issue and yes Adobe support still working on it with me.
I will report back if/when it is resolved for sure and I am following this convo string.
This is the latest from tech support suggestions, may it will assist you.
Disable all network connections through Windows options, reboot, then try again?
Physically disconnecting Ethernet and unplug any external drives or devices leaving Keyboard and Mouse. Unplug Printers and scanners too.
The Photoshop.com and Online Services features in the Preferences make calls out to the Internet. Additionally, most of the panels (including the Photoshop.com one) are Flash-based. Flash Player _always_ attempts to connect to the Internet when it first loads, regardless of where it's loading from.
    Update Photoshop Elements.
    Update Camera Raw.
    Uninstall Codecs and Quick time.

  • PSE 7 Organizer crash/stall/fail

I've been using PSE 7 Organizer in Windows XP without problems for quite awhile. Recently, the program locks up on the first image in the library. The hourglass shows and it says "generating thumbnails," yet nothing seems to happen. I generally have to hard exit the program (using the Task Manager). Please help.

    HI Alex,
    Try the following:
    1). Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Username]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0" and rename the 'Organizer' folder to 'Organizer_OLD'.
2). Now, go to the catalog location and move the 'thumb.5.cache' file to the desktop. The default location for your catalog can possibly be either of these:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\<Catalog Name>
    Or,
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\<Catalog Name>.
    Hope this helps!

  • Using PSE catalog/organizer with CS5

I have been using PSE 7 for a while and have just transitioned to Photoshop CS5.
I would like to use the catalog from PSE for organizing photos, and PS CS5 for editing.
In the PSE preferences I have tried to notify PSE that I want to use PS CS5 as the supplementary editor. All I get is a message that says I do not need to choose PS as the other editor as PSE already supports using PS from the edit menu and edit toolbar (which I can`t see how that would happen).
It is my guess that PSE catalog/organizer and PS CS5 do not interact, and that I can use both but independently.
    Is my guess correct?

Thanks, MTSTUNER. I now see that option in PSE Edit menu. However, when I select it there is a message that Thumbnails are being updated, and a copy of the photo is made in the organizer. PS does not launch, and if I launch PS first, the photo still does does not appear in PS.

  • PSE 11 Organizer automatic update

Has anyone out there had a problem with the PSE 11 Organizer starting an automatic update when you open the program?  This happens even when I have just minimized the screen and left the Organizer open.  Yesterday it remained in the update status for more than six hours during which time PSE 11 was frozen and I couldn't do anything in it.  I finally had to terminate the program with the task manager, shut down my computer and start all over again.  I'm beginning to get annoyed and would really appreciate hearing from someone with Photoshop.

You will find that most people here are likely to have Photoshop Elements of some ve3rsion;  this aside, if you are on a windows system, then you should be running as "Standard User" not as Administrator or a user with administrator privileges.  this way Adobe updater cannot update your system without prompting you to login as Administrator.
Also, if I can remember correctly, Adobe Updater has a small checkbox that you need to tick to make sure Adobe notifies you of update before downloading anything automatically.  I can't produce this now because I don't have any update outstanding but if I find a way to replicate this I'll post back.
For now make sure you work as Standard User in a windows system so that you are protected not only from Adobe updates but also from Microsoft updates and from hackers and scammers who all like to install their small piece of software without your knowledge.

  • PSE 9 Organizer Error Adding Keyword Tags and Other Woes

Hello, everyone.  I am having a ton of problems with PSE 9 Organizer.  The most frustrating and biggest problem is that I believe my catalog has been corrupted beyond repair.  I spent all of yesterday tagging my photos.  I had no problems and everything seemed to be going well until all of the sudden, the organizer suddenly froze up.  I had to use the Windows task manager just to get it to close.  This happened several times.  Finally, the organizer locked up my computer and I had to restart.  I opened the catalog and didn't seem to have any problems at that point.  I was able to view all of the images, video files etc.  I was even able to open the editor from the organizer.  When I tried to add a tag to a photo it gave me an error.  All it said was "error adding keyword tag" then nothing.  I tried to delete the photo and all it said was "error deleting photo".  This "error" shows up any time I try to make any changes to all of the images.  I can't add any new photos, can't delete, or add tags.  I have repaired the catalog several times.  It found errors the first time, but evidently that didn't fix my problem.  I also optimized and deleted my thumbnail cache to see if that was the issue.  Still nothing.  I have other catalogs and they work fine, so it is something to do with this particular catalog.  Any suggestions on what to do next?  Can I move the pictures to a new catalog without losing the tags?  And no, I didn't write the tags to the images because I wasn't done tagging.  Besides, PSE doesn't always write the tags correctly, as you probably know. Next problem.   When I first open PSE and select the organizer, it doesn't alway open.  I can see it on my taskbar (Windows 7 64 bit), but I can't get the window to maximize.  I have to close and open several times to get the window to open.  Sometimes it randomly jumps to my second monitor like it can't decide where to go.  Very frustrating.  I would appreciate any suggestions about what to do.  Thanks.

Back to the original question, after thinking about this for a couple days I have had two ideas for workarounds:
    1)  Copy my tag names into the photo metadata and create a new catalog to bring all of my images into.  This will allow me to keep all of my existing tags, and it MIGHT solve the tag display problem based on a test with a couple images in a new catalog.  The downsides to this are a) permanently writes my tags into the photo metadata which will be bad if I decide to change something later, b) loses all version sets, and c) loses all albums (although I don't have that many).  I found instructions for this workaround at http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Merging_Catalogs.
    2)  Live with the lack of color tag display in Organizer, and use reverse searches to find missing tag categories.  For example, if I want to find all photos that do not have a "Places" tag, I check the box next to the "Places" category (which also selects all sub-categories and tags below this).  Then I go to the Options drop-down in the Find Bar and "Hide best match results" and "Show results that do not match".  This gives me every image in my catalog that does not have a tag from the "Places" category, so I can go through and tag these as appropriate.
I would have gone with #1 if it weren't for the permanence of the keywords.  I guess I have a commitment problem (or I just haven't got my tag hierarchy figured out yet).  Instead, I am going with #2 which should give me most of what I need for now.  I will still hold out some small glimmer of hope that Adobe manages a fix for this issue down the road.

  • PSE 10 organizer changing date times of photos

I have been having an issue since PSE9 which continues into PSE 10 organizer. After scaning photos and saving into organizer it will not allow assingment of jsut a year or a year month. If I take an old family photo and change date (scanned date) to year 1930 with unknown month it appears to take. Nect I time go into organizer it has changed the date to 12/31/1929. When I assign year and month with no date it will assing a day. PSE 10 also changes time of raw photos, keeps correct year, month, and day but changes time to the time file imported. If I correct the time it appears to take but it reverts back. This has become a major issue as I have over 16K of pictures and have scanned in thousands of old family photos, reasearching dates to use, it is extremetly frustarating to have a program that changes these settings.

  • Has PSE 10 resolved the PSE 9 Organizer issues ?

I have purchased every edition of PSE for my MAC.
I got so frustrated with 9 that I sold it and went back to PSE 8 and Bridge.
Is there anyone doing a comparison of the new version that corrects the 9 problems especially for the MAC users ?
Please lets not have the argument that 9 was not a problem in the overall scheme of things.
My thread about it had over 9725 views and 146 replies.
The fact that 10 has been released in a shorter period of time should tell us something.
I really want to buy it but will wait this time for reviews and this forum's take on it.
    Thanks,
    Greg

If you didn't like the organizer in 9, you're not likely to like it in 10. Since I don't know which issues you mean, I can't comment specifically, but the mac PSE 10 organizer is very much like the PSE 9 one, except that now there's an option to Suggest Photo Stacks.

    Hallo,

  • Can't make an incremental backup in PSE 10 Organizer

I don't understand why I can't make an incremental backup in PSE 10 Organizer. I made my first full backup to my external drive a week ago. Today I tried to make an incremental backup. After selecting Incremental Backup from the file menu, a new screen appears asking for the Backup Path, and so I entered (by selecting) the full path name on my external drive where I made my original backup. But, next, it wants to know the name of the "Previous Backup file." I have absolutely no idea what the program wants at this point. What particular file does it want me to enter as the "previous backup file"?? There are hundreds of files in my backup directory. The backup directly does have a file called "Backup.tly" which I entered, hoping that this is the file it wants, but then I get this error message: "I:\Pictures\Adobe\Backup.tly does not contain a backup set for the current catalog. Please locate the last backup you made for this catalog." What am I missing here?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff
Once you have a full back up you can make incremental back ups but you need to follow a set routine. It’s not very intuitive.
Start by creating a new folder or label a new CD/DVD Disk - it’s best to use dates e.g. “PSE10 incr backup 2012-0104”
Press Ctrl+B and check Incremental, then click Next
Highlight your drive containing the last backup and click the bottom Browse button (previous back up file) then navigate to the TLY file and click open.
Click the Browse button above and navigate to your new folder “PSE10 incr backup 2012-0104”
    Click Done.
If your full backup originally contained 500 images, the incremental backup will only contain changes since the last backup e.g. files B000501.jpg, B000502.jpg etc
If you ever have to do a complete restore you start with the TLY file from the latest incremental backup. The program automatically recognizes the number of incremental steps and you will be prompted to insert a disc or navigate to the appropriate drive.
Incremental backup’s are obviously much quicker to write to disk but I recommend that you periodically perform another full backup and delete any earlier backups.

  • Unable to view recent photos on my Mac in PSE 11 organizer

unable to view recent photos on my Mac in PSE 11 organizer ..I see them in Iphoto not organizer..Please help

On import, iPhoto copies photos into its library, which is proprietary to itself and should never be poked and prodded from outside iphoto or you run a strong risk of corrupting the library and losing your photos. So you eventually need to choose between iphoto and organizer.
If you want to use iphoto, then you have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor and send the photos from iphoto to PSE, edit them, then save without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the pse preferences>saving files>on first save), and iphoto will remember your last edits and the orginal. However, you must to lose the edited version to use the original again, and this method doesn't work well with raw files.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, user File>Open in the editor,  edit the photos, make all the changes to name and format that you like, save the photos and import them back to iphoto as new files.
Or if you decide you prefer organizer, set the this iphoto preference to No Application and you can call up the photo downloader from within organizer, or just drag the photo with the images in it from the card to wherever you want to keept them:
and of course you don't need to user either iphoto or organizer unless you want.

  • How to *really* disable Color Management in PSE 7 Organizer?

After much experimenting with old versions of PSE (2 and 3 specifically) and my Canon MP530 inkjet, I have found I get the best results by disabling PSE Color Management and using the Canon printer driver to manage colors. (Even when using the supplied printer profiles in PSE, the results are too dark and typically have a heavy orange color cast.)
Now with PSE 7, I can print from the Editor, tell PSE to let the printer manage colors and get decent results. However, in the Organizer, even if Color Management is turned off in Preferences, the Print dialog box forces you to select a printer color profile, and the resulting prints are terrible.
So, is there any way to tell PSE 7 Organizer that you want your printer to manage colors? Without this option, all the printing features in Organizer are worthless to me. Thanks for the help.

Found a possible answer from the archive ...
    John Rolfe Ellis - 8:43pm Jan 13, 08 PST (#1 of 4)
Unfortunately, there isn't an option for letting the printer manage colors
in the Organizer. In PSE 6, you can either select the option Print Space:
Same as Source, which sends the photo to the printer *without* the color
profile needed by the printer to manage color, or you can select a printer
profile and have PSE 6 manage color. (Thanks to Colin at Elements Village
    for clarifying this for me.)
    So you have three options:
    1. Print only from the Editor with the printer managing color.
    2. Print from the Organizer using Print Space: Same as Source and configure
your printer to assume the profile of your photos. For example, if your
photos all have the profile sRGB, then configure your printer to assume that
photos are in sRGB. The equivalent setting in the PSE 6 Editor Print is
Color Handling: No Color Management. The details depend on your photos and
your printer, of course, but most consumer cameras produce sRGB and most
consumer printers assume sRGB by default. (But evidently, either your
photo with the yellowish cast isn't sRGB or your printer isn't assuming
sRGB, so this approach may not work for you.)
    3. Have PSE 6 manage color by selecting the appropriate printer profile in
the Organizer and Editor Print commands and turning off color management in
your printer. If you get this all configured properly, this will give you
the assurance of knowing who is managing color, but it does take more effort
on your part. You need to read your printer driver documentation carefully
to get it configured properly, and this often involves going to the vendor's
support knowledgebase to get the necessary documentation.
