PSVC application death detected

Please Help!
My Sunfire V490 has an error in /var/adm/messages indicating "picld[129]: [ID 230523 daemon.error] PSVC application death detected".
Platform:
SunOS apgdb3 5.10 Generic_125100-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V490
I did a search an realize that this error is related to Platform Service. The most common cause of this is that server platform-specific patches are not up to date.
For SunOS 5.9, Solaris 9, there is a recommendation to install patch 113447-23. Patch 113447-23 is obsoleted by patch 118558-39 and 118558-39 is recommended for SunOS 5.9.
Questions:
1) How can I fix the error "PSVC application death detected" in SunOS 5.10?
2) If I want to install patch 118558-39 of SunOS 5.9 in SunOS 5.10 Solaris 10, how can I find a equivalent patch for SunOS 5.10?
3) If I want to install/update platform-specific patches for Sunfire V490, SunOS 5.10, which patch(es) should be the right one? (I did a search, many results return)
Much appreciated for your help.

Hallo Salthaus_de
Tbh, it might work if you do as you just said, move it over to a package, and it might not Work. :)
The most typical reason that this happens is that your application install ends before it is done doing what it should. I have seen this happening alot with "Autodesk" products, they start a "setup.exe" which spawns another "setup.exe" and exits the first.
This then tells SCCM, the setup.exe's PID you requested to look at has ended, and you can now do your detection check.
This Means it will be installing for another 15 minutes, and taking up msiexec.exe - which Means the applications installing after this one possibly could end up not installing with the errorcode, another product is currently being installed.
Based on this i would still, eventhough the "workaround" Works, as it should, find out why this happens.
Just my 2 cents, what you do NeXT is up to you. :)
Kind regards

  • Member death detection (Coh-3.5.3)

    Hi,
Can someone explain death detection in 3.5.3 please. I have a reasonable idea how it works:
A member suspects another member has departed so it asks two other members for confirmation.
If these other members confirm departure then the original member informs the rest of the cluster that the member has departed.
Wherever possible the members being asked to confirm departure will be different roles to the member asking for confirmation
We occasionally lose storage nodes in this way but I have some questions around what I am seeing in the logs below.
    The scenario is this:
    * Member 27 has a timeout sending a packet to Member 16
    * Member 27 asks Member 83 and member 85 to confirm departure of Member 16
    * Member 83 rejects the confirmation request (@ 2010-09-22 05:21:43.411)
    * Member 85 accepts the confirmation request (I assume it does as it has no rejection in its log)
    * Member 27 informs the rest of the cluster that Member 16 has departed
    * Member 1 (the senior member) heartbeats Member 16 causing it to re-initialise itself - it then rejoins as Member 127.
My question is given that Member 83 rejected the confirmation request I assume it could still see Member 16. What exactly are the rules around forcing a Member to depart the cluster when this happens.
The nodes asked to confirm departure were another storage node (which rejected the request) and a storage disabled worker node (which accepted the request).
These storage disabled nodes can sometimes be under reasonable load so might not be the best ones to ask to confirm departure.
What happens when only one of the two members confirms departure?
Can we choose which roles get asked to confirm departure?

  • Application not detected in Task Sequence

    Hello,
I have problems with some applications in a task sequence with SCCM2012 R2.
The applications install fine in a normal deployment via Software Center and get detected after the Installation.
The same applications get installed in a TS but are not detected after the Installation (according to AppEnforce.log) and the TS fails.
I already tried all kinds of application detection methods (file system, registry, MSI, custom script) but without success.
When the TS fails I checked manually (pressing F8) where detection should have looked and the requirements are met.
Thanks in advance for your hints and solutions.

  • Application to detect correct port

    Hi,
I am building an application which is to work for different computers. In the application I control a I/O device and a power supply through USB. I think that there might be problems with pre seting the name of the ports in the application since the port names might be different in other computers.
Is it possible to make a VI which auto detects which ports it needs to communicate with? Or is there some other smart way to make sure that it is not a problem?
    Best Regards,
    MAthias

    Hi Mathias_P,
if you speak about COM and LPT try this example.

  • How can I get applications to detect a network scanner?

Running 27" iMac with OS-X 10.7.2, all Software Updates are installed.
Epson Workforce 630 attached via ethernet network. Driver is current at 8.61.
System Preferences>Print and Fax lists the printer and has a tab for the scanner. Scanning via this interface works fine.
Preview will detect and scan without problem, but Image Capture does not detect the scanners. Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Pro X do not detect my network scanners. Adobe support is no help. No problems with Apple products appear to be theirs, ever.
Epson drivers according to their website are installed through Software Update -- current.
But Acrobat will not detect the Epson over the network.
Note that my wife's iMac OSX 10.6.8 has the same problem.
    Anybody got a clue?
    Thanks!

You may be paying extra but what speed are you actually getting? Open Activity Monitor, click the Network button at the bottom and watch the Data received/sec speed while you're downloading different things. That will give you the actual transfer rate, not the advertised transfer rate.
Something like Adobe Flash shouldn't take long because it's only about 18 MB; how big is something that seems to lag? Is your internet connection wireless or are you using an Ethernet connection with a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor? Wired is almost always faster. And with Mavericks being over 5 GB, it'll take a while under the best of circumstances, especially since the transfers I've observed of it don't run anywhere near what a fast connection is capable of.

  • Application Loader detect my icon dimensions in error

I've released many apps before using the iTunesConnect but this is my first time that i'm using Application Loader to upload a binary.
When i try to upload the binary using the Application Loader then it gives me the following error:
*iPhone/iPod Touch: Icon.png: icon dimensions (0 x 0) don't meet the size requirements. The icon file must be 57x57 pixels, in .png format*
I've valid icon with png extension and its meta data gives me the proper information along with its size (57x57). Anyone facing the same issue? Thanks!

I had the same problem. Application Loader really threw me for a loop since this problem only reared its ugly head when I was trying to update my app already in The Store. But then I had the same problem with my new app that I was uploading for the first time.
Anyway, problem solved. My solution: change the "icon file" key in the "your app"-info.plist file to "icon files" (plural). Then add a row for your 57x57 and 72x72 icon files. Application Loader accepted my zipped binary just fine after that.

  • Detecting a user abort in a Java Application

    Hi friends!
I want to develop a Java Application that makes a back-up from a DataBase. If the application is aborted during the execution, It has to be concerned about the abort, for continuing the back-up in the point it was left, when the application is executed again.
I would like to know if there is any way for a Java application to detect if the user has aborted the execution. It will be used to write in a file the last register of the DB that was copied.

Please do not crosspost. If everyone started doing it, your own question would be pushed to third page in no time. Be considerate to others.

  • Can application detect undeployment?

    Hello!
Is there any way how an application can detect (and then react on) its undeployment in a J2EE server? I thought there might exist some mechanism like the shutdownHook for the JVM... This would help me a lot for some clean-up-tasks, which (due to the lack of IDs) cannot be done at initialization time in the next deployment.
Best regards from sunny Black Forest, Germany,
    Mattin

    Hi,
I found a portable solution: Use a servlet (for me it's the same servlet that triggers initialization tasks) and implement a destroy() method. Precondition fior this solution is, that the cleanup tasks may also be executed in the web container (e.g. calling an external application or cleaning stuff in the database).
Happy programming and best wishes from sunny Black Forest, Germany,

  • Crash detection application?

    Hi,
My iMac (2.16GHZ 2G RAM, OS 10.6.5) has been crashing intermittently for awhile.
Apps crash, kernel panics and every once in a while the finder will simply quit and I end up in the log in screen.
I have reinstalled the system and it usually fixes the problem for a little while but eventually it comes back to the same behavior.
I've run: Cocktail, Drive Genius, Disk Utility, and Techtool and everything appears to be good. I have Zapped PRAM as well.
Is there an application that runs in the background that monitors the OS/hardware and when it crashes and reports in laymen's terms what causes the crash? I have looked at the console, but you need to be a developer to understand exactly what it is reporting.
You'd think with all of the great developers around, that someone would create an application that detects the crash, categorizes the event (OS, Software, Hardware) and reports exactly what caused it.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Detect HDMI or VGA connection

    Dear forum members,
Out of some reasons, I want that one of my LabVIEW programs runs only if the laptop is connected to my audio and video system via HDMI. The program shall give a warning or similar if the laptop is connected to the audio and video system via VGA.
So, is there any way how I can detect if the laptop is connected via HDMI or VGA?
I would be happy about some feedback!

Thanks a lot for the feedback!
The idea is great. Unfortunately, I have different laptops which behave differently.
One changes the display size the other not id I connect them to the HDMI wire.
So, I cannot really use the All Monitors Application for detecting if there is a HDMI or VGA connection.
Meanwhile, I also think that I will build in my program some dialog in - this is easy and will work for sure.
    Anyway, Thanks a lot - I learned something ;-)

  • SCCM: Application deployment vs Package deployment with requirements and prerequisits.

    Hey,
My organization is in the process of implementing a new remote networking solution for all employees, however some employees require additional software vs others. What I am trying to find out is if there is a way to have one package with supersedes and
requirements that we can use to do a massive deployement.
Here are the different scenarios with order of installation:
    Financial group Desktop:
    1.Install New solution
    2.Install Configuration
    3.Install Token Authentication
    (nothing crazy)
    Financial Group Laptops
    1.Install Token Authentication
    2.Install New Solution
    3.Install COnfiguration
    4.Un-uninstall Old Solution
5.Un-install Tunnel Guard application (requires a reboot, that's why it's last). (this is the application that would be deployed with requirements to go back up the chain of supersedes (meaning, deploy 5, but do 4, when 4 is triggered, it does 3 first, etc...)
    All other laptops
    1.Install New Solution
    2.Install COnfiguration
    3.Un-uninstall Old Solution
4.Un-install Tunnel Guard application (requires a reboot, that's why it's last).(this is the application that would be deployed with requirements to go back up the chain of supersedes (meaning, deploy 4, but do 3, when 3 is triggered, it does 2 first, etc...)
Because of the different requirements, is there a way to have one deployment with multiple deployment types to say based off:
    1. Computer types (we have a naming convention that identifies laptops and desktops.
    2. Only install certain pieces of software (Token validator in this case if financial application is detected on the machine).
Or should I create different applications for each case with different collections or go with 3 different packages and collections with install this package first set in the package deployment
    Thanks for your help.

The problem is the last uninstall, because it's not applicable to all machines. That means that if you would deploy that with all it's dependencies, it wouldn't do anything on the desktops as it's not applicable to them.
In this case, if you want to use one deployment, the easiest solution is a task sequence. That way you can target everything in one time and still build some logic to prevent some (un-)installs.

  • Detecting the type of Internet Connection

    Hi..
I am trying ... build an application that detects the kind of internet
connection (Dial-up, T1, DSL etc) that you are using and then disconnects it.
This application, must then send a response to a server-side program
containing information about the user and the connection type. This
application has to also trip the current connection if it is dial-up. Thats much later on, I first need to be able to detect the connection type.
I was was wondering whether there is some documentation/code samples about the same ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Abhijeet

Thanks for the information...let me explain now...
    hi:
    reply inline --
I am trying ... build an application that detectsthe
    kind of internet
connection (Dial-up, T1, DSL etc) that you areusing
i don't think there's a Java API for doing this
    intrinsically.
on the other hand, there one easy (yet not very
    reliable) way
    of detecting type of connection...
xfer speed | type of connection
    -----------------+-------------------
    0 - 50kbps | dial-up
    50 - 130kbps | ISDN
    130kbps - 1Mbps | DSL
    1-1.5Mbps | T1
    400MB-more | Cable
but these figures are idealistic, and there are some
    overlaps.
generally these figures hold only in few countries
    around the
world... not even all US networks guarantee these
    values...
and infact you can have variations which deviate...
fractional-T1, HDSL, ADSL, SDSL, DSL-Lite, and to top
    it all
the service-provider may choose to limit the
    port-speeds...
so in short there is no very well defined way to get
    around
this... in all the above cases except dial-up, the
    endpoint
connectivity on the host processor is an Ethernet
    card, which
in turn would be connected to a router... so, how can
    you say
what technology router uses to get onto the WAN... of
    course
without some proprietary API's that the router may
    provide,
or some SNMP MIB's that router may support... !!!Ok ... I should have been a little more specific here, actually its not that complicated.. I just want to be able to distinguish whether the user is on a dial-up or a permanenet connection ( Modem VS T1-,DSL, Cable ) .... if I can do that much.. its fine...
    >
and then disconnects it. what do you mean by disconnect... ??? is it
    disconnecting the
modem, or the total LAN connectivity towards all other
    hosts
or a particular host ??? for modem disconnection,
    JTAPI etc.
or Java Serial port control might help... (not
    sure)... for
others, updating the routing-table on the host (using
    JNI) or
bringing down an ethernet-interface etc. would be
required...so then ... the question of disconnection is applicable only in case of a modem-dial up kind of connection.. I'll look into the JTAPI or SerialPort control working.
