Apple has really crappy NTFS read-only that does not always work. And it is probably a licensing issue.
Paragon Software is constantly being updated and supported with their NTFS for Mac OS X - they also have an HFS+ driver for Windows that works - Apple's HFS+ read-only driver for Boot Camp / Windows does not.
I keep seeing problems and lack of support for MacFUSE, that could change.

You are indeed allowed to run the command (as evidenced by the fact that the command did run).
show config is effectively an alias for the command more nvram:startup-config
As a result, the issue is the permission on the file, not the command itself.
Unfortunately, the file systems do not explicitly support permissions.  This used to be implicitly supported through permissions on show config.
Perhaps this is a bug.  I'd open a case on this if you need really need this feature.

  • Home Directory not mounted in Active Directory environment

I am trying to integrate a PowerMac G5 with Leopard 10.5.2 into an Active Directory. The Mac is bound to the AD without any problems. I can authenticate with my AD account and I also see the printers. However, I have problems using the network home directories.
If I activate "Force local home directory on startup disk" everything works as expected: The user logs in and gets a local home directory under /Users and can mount its network home directory with the finder without the need to authenticate again, so the single-sign-on works.
However, that's not what I want - I want the user to work solely in his networked home directory, not on the local disk. So I deactivate the button "Force local home directory on startup disk", but now the mount of the home directory fails. In the system.log I see the following:
/usr/libexec/mount_url[123]: smb_mount: open session failed!: syserr = Broken pipe
This is printed several times. If I try to access to automounted home directory under /Network/Servers/SERVER/USER in the terminal I also get "Broken pipe".
The strange thing: I can access the home directory with smbclient, I can also mount it with mount_smbfs, but if I try it with /usr/libexec/mount_url it fails although I use the exact same server and user directory.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

We have a similar issue here. Only the first AD User after reboot can login and the second one gets the same error as you. (see also: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6418268)
It looks like there is a problem with the automounter. I set the AUTOMOUNT_TIMEOUT to 60 seconds in /etc/autofs.conf, then after logout of the first user and waiting for 1 minute, the second user can log in.

    Hello there, charialji.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some great steps for troubleshooting your issue:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
    Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Calling ni845xStatusToString gives: NI-845x: Unable to decipher status code 0xfffb6528 ( errorCode ). Error -1 - Directory not found.

    Hi All,
I'm trying to get started programming my NI-USB 8451 with the NI USB 845x driver.
What I am trying to do is simply retrieve some of the error and warning messages from the driver. As instructed in the Hardware and Software manual for the NI USB 845x, I am making a call to
    ni845xStatusToString
However, for any error code (valid or invalid), I get the following string back from the driver:
NI-845x:  Unable to decipher status code 0xfffb6528 (<errorCode>). Error -1 - Directory not found.
where I see the supplied error code in <errorCode> above.
This makes me think that some type of dictionary or "Directory" that is external to the driver is not available on my system. Is this the case?
I have the 64-bit driver installed on my machine. This is further consolidated by the fact that all the other functions (ni845x*) work as intended and I am able to communicate with the device.
Can anyone help me understand why I cannot retrieve the error strings or warnings strings?
    Your response is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Sincerely,

That is odd that your application has trouble with it.
LabVIEW does not but, if you are seeing the error you reference update the driver its in the known issues resolved for 2.1.1
Are you trying to open the error file from an additional process?  The driver is limited having no "Multi-Process Support"

  • Error: X "does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help."

I have received to following error from at least three different applications when they have attempted to auto-update recently: X "does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help."
I am not running off a disk image and I have admin privileges... Not sure what the problem is, but it just started happening (a week or two ago) and I have never previously had a problem with these applications auto-updating.  I have repaired permissions and attempted other "fixes" found on the interweb, but nothing works.  Also, this is only happening on my iMac (27" Intel i5) and not my MacBook Pro (17" Intel i5) -- both are running Lion.  Please help!

If you updated using the default install (merge) from before Tiger, you may be seeing an issue that we saw when Leopard first came out last year.
Not sure of the fix - it was not simple - but if you search back in these forums you might find something that will help. I believe it deals with the numbers assigned to accounts (501, etc).
If you open your Accounts Preferences and unlock the padlock, right-click Advanced Options and read your User ID and Group ID. Let us know what they are.
Now, in the other user admin account, do the same thing.
One of the real experts who knows much more about this than I may be able to then help.
And be sure to check out this article

  • Users home folders not accessible on SMB, OS X 10.6.4

    Hello,
I'm facing this very weird problem upon trying to connect my Windows XP SP3 clients to their respective home folders on Mac OS X Server 10.6.4.
The other shares and public folders however work just fine.
So, upon connecting to the home folder of the user from Windows, (on \\serverIP\username\ ) I keep getting the authentication login form as if I'm typing the wrong username or password.
Of course the user's password is correct.
Oddly enough I can connect and see all the users shares if I go on My Computer and type \\serverIP\ and then enter username and password. I can access the "Users" share and even see other users documents and files!
It used to work very well before a server restart last night, I decided to update to 10.6.4 to see if the problem would go away but no luck.
In the SMB service log I see the following everytime I try to connect directly to the users home folders:
    [2010/06/23 14:29:14, 0, pid=2834] /SourceCache/samba/samba-235.4/samba/source/smbd/service.c:makeconnectionsnum(1047)
'/Network/Servers/macmini-server.solinf.org/Users/silvia' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to [silvia] Error was Host is down
What puzzles me is that if I navigate from shell to /Network/Servers/macmini-server.solinf.org/ I find an alias called "users" that I cannot access.
Anyone has any ideas what is causing this direct access to fail?
    Thanks in advance
    CS8

    HI,
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that could be a factor.
Also, follow the instructions here to clear the Flash cache.

  • Lost Connectivity with WinXP Home SP2 via SMB - Permission Denied

Suddenly today, I could not connect to my Win XP Home machine via SMB. Console reveals the following:
mount_smbfs: error from NetrShareEnum call: exception = 382312522
mount_smbfs: session setup phase failed: syserr = Permission denied
mount_smbfs: could not login to server FAMILY-ROOM: syserr = Permission denied
We recently had a trojan virus on the Windows machine but erradicated it. However it messed up the Windows firewall and had to reset the registry keys to eliminate a Group Policy message in windows firewall. Windows machine is operating fine, but cannot connect our Mac. We have a valid account and password on the windows machine.
    Thanks for your help.
One more thing. I recently updated to iTunes 7 on both Mac and PC and Front Row 3 on Mac.

tried that didnt work i have however seemed to gotten rid of the samba fault message by removing the password=*** line now it mount proberly altough if manually mounting it asks for a password and i simply press enter and it moves on i still get permission denied when trying to mount with cifs though

  • Home directory not showing in other apps

I use various programs that need to access files in my home directory, such as Adobe Lightroom. The only thing showing as folders are sharing and one other folder call business cards.None of the other folder or files show for selection. I have changed permissions for everyone to access the home directory but this does not help. This situation is also in Photoshop, Bridge and other programs. How can I fix this so all the files are accessible no matter the program that needs to access these files?

The FDM Service account does not have proper permission to the FDM application folder. Make sure that the applicaiton path is specified in UNC format and that the FDM Service account has full read\write to the application share. So the app path should be something like \\servername\fdmdata\<appname> and the FDM service account shoudl have full control to the FDMDATA folder.

check the MSS profile being used, there you have a setting
    If I reject the
time in UWL and made sure that the Profile has the field
(V_CATS_APPR_CUST-SEND_MAIl) is active, then the Notification message
is available in the SBWP for the employee.
    SPRO > Cross-Application Components >
Time Sheet > Settings for All User
    Interfaces > Approval Procedure >
Approve Working Times > Define Profiles
and Assign to Views > 'Rejection'
    checkbox field
    (V_CATS_APPR_CUST-SEND_MAIl) is active

  • Leopard Client Tiger server mobile home directory not working... hmmm

Mobile home directory is not working for my leopard clients with my tiger server.
I can log in via the Apple server account that is set for mobile.
On my tiger clients it prompts me to confirm my mobile account on log in and everything works fine if i unplug the network cable.
on my leopard clients no prompt at log in. so i go to account under system prefs and see that the account says mobile..and i click on make mobile account in the account pane in system prefs says will reboot and make account.. prompts for password for mobile account i put it in and then it says there was an error in making mobile account and then it takes me back to the main log in window.
every client i have on leopard does this...
    am i missing something?
    thanks in advance,
    Jesse

Tiger server can control mobile account syncing and other features present on Tiger clients.
See this post for some more info on setting Leopard mobile account preferences on Tiger servers:

  • User Home Directory not being created when "Create Home Now" button hit...

This is a cross post, since I was not sure where this should end up since it touches two pieces- Open Directory and User Management. Any help would be appreciated!
I am running OS X Server 10.5. All of my user accounts have been migrated over along with their home directories. Problem is that when creating new users and then assiging a home directory the system does not actually create the directory.
Currently all users are setup to have their home directory setup here:
afp://172.16.110.100/Users/'username'. The Users folder has been setup to automount, and all users that have folders can be accessed without issue.
The problem is when I create a new user, select the aft://172.16.110.100/Users option and then select "Create Home Now" button and save as it requests... it does not create the directories.
I have even tried to change the Home patch to make it local to see if it was an network issue, and used the /Users choice and it will not create the directory in that way either- both location go to the same place.
The system was obviously able to create the local admin account and directory admin account home folders without issue when the system was installed.
The permissions for the "Users" folder are as follow:
directory admin = Read and Write
    local admin= Read and Write
system user (root)= Read and Write
    admin group= Read Only
    everyone group= Read Only
The system is in production, so any kind of server resets need to be done after 5pm, so I have not been able to reset AFP service.
Currently the only services running are AFP, SMB and Open Directory.
All users have their entire home directories located on the server, and login over Directory Access on their clients, so all user accounts are stored on the server. No one is having issues accessing their files or logging in.
I just can not create new home directories when I create new accounts.

You do not have to be logged on as the root user to do this. Launch the terminal and type-
    sudo createhomedir -a
I run an XServe with Tiger server ( 10.4.11) and this has been the workaround I have been using.
    Good luck.
