Pulseaudio: /run/user/ myuid /pulse gets owned by root "randomly"

Hi,
I'm sorry I think it's impossible that this hasn't come up yet, but I'm unable to find anything related.
Since a month or so I have a weird problem with the ownership of /run/user/<myuid>/pulse/*
From time to time those files get owned by root without any obvious reason I can think of.
I then get the can't connect to audio bla bla messages when I try to run vlc.
When the problem appears I just chown <myuser> -R /run/user/<myuid>/pulse/ and everything's fine again.
Everytime I check pulseaudio runs as my user, I never caught it running as root. I don't understand why those files get owned by root from time to time.
/usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
/usr/lib/pulse/gconf-helper
I'm using kde and pulse gets started automatically.
After logging in everything works fine. It *seems* random to me when this happens, although recently I have discovered that this happens when vlc's output module was set to automatic.
I've had files playing in vlc, hit the stop button and immediately hit play again which resulted in that error. Hitting stop, changing owner and hitting play worked.
I then changed audio output module in vlc to pulseaudio and wasn't able to reproduce it since.
But this still happens from time to time.
To make sure there are no old strange settings, I've deleted ~/.pulse already but this didn't help.
I'm sorry that I'm not posting logs since I have no idea where to start looking.
It would be great if someone could point me into the right direction in order to find out what's happening there.
Thank you very much!
Max

Thanks for your reply!
I noticed that I mixed things up. Not the contents of /run/user/<myuid>/pulse/* get owned by root, but the "pulse" directory itself.
I've just done a pacman -Syu. Let's see if it happens again

    Hi experts,
How we can get the current running user information in BusinessOne Application,
Based on the user details i want to assign some functionality,
    Regards,
    Saidarao yakkala

    Hi,
As per me you can't get detail by server side.
If you want to know who are connected then you can use sp_who2 procedure in SQL query.
That will display who are login.
For more detail you have to check LOG file on client side in SAP B1 > Log folder.
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED]MPD, PulseAudio & Systemd/User

Since the advent of skype 4.3 I've had to switch to using pulseaudio. Things seems to be working fine except for the interaction between pulseaudio and mpd. My goal is to attain the same functionality as I had before when I was just using alsa. The main problem seems to be that the mpd daemon starts before pulseaudio. This means that when I reboot, for example, my music doesn't automatically keep playing. However if I toggle mpc (or open ncmpcpp and unpause) then it works fine.
    What I have done
    1) I installed mpd using the script found on the wiki
1a) copied ~/.config/mpd/mpd.conf to /etc/mpd.conf and uncomment #user line so it runs as my user
1b) enabled the mpd service with systemctl so it starts on boot, as directed to from 1)
    2) Applied the workaround detailed here to make pulseaudio play nice with mpd
From what I can understand this results in the mpd daemon using the /etc/mpd.conf file which mirrors my local one (but I think the process is still started as root?)
If I don't do 2) then I get a problem where if I try to open pavucontrol I get an error saying I'm unable to connect and the system feels very unresponsive. Two second delays navigating around in thunar for example.
    fuser /dev/snd/* outputs
    » sudo fuser /dev/snd/*
    /dev/snd/controlC0: 440
    /dev/snd/controlC1: 440
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: 440m
    » ps aux | grep 440
    quiv 440 1.2 0.1 495964 13248 ? Sl 15:16 0:05 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
    quiv 2259 0.0 0.0 11668 2296 pts/0 S+ 15:23 0:00 grep --color=auto 440
For now I have added in
if grep -q "state: pause" /home/quiv/.config/mpd/state; then
    mpc toggle
    fi
to my ~/.xinitrc as a work around to get pulse and mpd to work together properly. However it doesn't seem to work all the time. If I leave my music playing then when I reboot the system with reboot it seems that somtimes the state is being saved as paused, and other times as play. I suppose I could just mpc toggle without checking, but I don't want a situation where if I happen to not be playing music that every time I reboot my music starts playing.
    Other things I have tried are;
    A) not using pulseaudio with mpd.
    B) not using systemd to manage mpd. Instead I manually started it in .xinitrc and pointed it to my ~/.config/mpd/mpd.conf file. I believe this means it runs as my own user instead of as root. When I did this I commented the username line and also undid 2) from above in ~/.config/mpd/mpd.conf
The problem with A) is that if I use alsa with mpd, mpd hogs my soundcard. My card becomes unselectable in pavucontrol and I cannot use it with pulseaudio., meanng no skype. The benefit of doing this (this is how I used to do it before I needed pulseaudio) is I have no problems with mpd's state being saved incorrectly.
The problem with B) is the mpdstate is saved incorrectly when for example I issue reboot. I can reproduce this by changing my currently played song then rebooting. When I boot back up mpd resumes playback from the previous session instead of recognizing the last thing I was playing. I had a search around on the forums and I found this issue which seems to describe what is happening. There doesn't seem to be a solution there instead a suggestion to user systemd (which I would like to do!) instead to manage mpd. Rasi's post details a unit file but I'm unsure what to do with this.
Looking at the wiki it seems like maybe I am supposed to provide this file so that it overwrites the default mpd.service unit. So I followed the steps listed there. First I created the directory /etc/systemd/system/mpd.d/ then made the user.conf file inside. I tried just putting the additional arguments in
    [Service]
    User=YOUR_USER
    PAMName=system-local-login
I also remember trying to overwrite the entire [Service] section of the original by using
    [Service]
    User=YOUR_USER
    PAMName=system-local-login
    ExecStart=
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/mpd --no-daemon
because I think just adding the addtional parameters might not have worked. But I'm not sure on this point, maybe both ways worked. This seemed to work but I had the same problem as above. The state was still being saved incorrectly sometimes when I rebooted. I would get a previous session instead of the most recent change. So I tried the other method for overwriting systemd unit files and made the file /etc/systemd/system/mpd.service in which I pasted Rasi's entire unit file. This also seemed to work, but still the incorrect state problem happened.
At this point I didn't know what to try. It seemed like the only option left was to set up mpd using a local configuration and setting up a systemd/User session and managing it that way. The wiki indiciated that if I did it this way I would not have to use the method 2) above. However I was/still am hesistant about doing this. I'm new to arch and the systemd/User wiki page seems very intimidating. I worry that I will create problems that I won't understand how to solve using this method just for the chance that mpd will function correclty with pulse. However I seemed to have exhausted all my possible options so I thought whatever I'll try it anyway! I'm certain I probably haven't done it right however.
So once again I turned to the wiki to help me with setting this up. However I can't make sense of the article. I don't know if I should follow ONLY the Setup since systemd 206 or if I should follow both setup sections? I decided to follow only the first section. I use no DE so I commented out the
    [[ -z $DISPLAY && $XDG_VTNR -eq 1 ]] && exec startx
line in my ~/.zprofile. When I set up my system I followed the Automatic login to virtual console. I left this file alone, but upon second thoughts maybe I should have disabled this too? I don't understand if using xlogin-git to austoart Xorg, as described in the systemd/User page, requires me to get rid of this too. I think xlogin-git just starts Xorg so automatic login via getty should be fine?
Immediately when I boot in using systemd to manage my session I notice that there are problems. I don't think my environment variables are being sourced from .zshenv because my panel fails to load. If I kill the panel and load it again it works. This makes me think there is something wrong with the order of units started with systemd.
    » sudo journalctl --this-boot --no-pager | grep -i panel ~
    Jul 05 16:25:39 lorelai bash[494]: /home/quiv/.config/bspwm/panel/panel: line 16: : No such file or directory
    Jul 05 16:25:39 lorelai bash[494]: /home/quiv/.config/bspwm/panel/panel: line 17: : No such file or directory
    Jul 05 16:25:39 lorelai bash[494]: /home/quiv/.config/bspwm/panel/panel: line 18: : No such file or directory
In each instance panel is trying to do things based on $PANEL_FIFO which is exported from ~/.zshenv but it doesn't appear to be set at the time systemd starts things up. Apart from these problems, which are probably undoubtedly due to the fact I failed to set up systemd/User properly, I still have problems with mpd. The state seems to be remembered correctly now, however when I reboot I still have to toggle mpc for it to start playback. It seems to be the same problem as when I use setup detailed intially. I suspect perhaps once again there is something wrong with the order here. MPD starts before pulse so it doesn't find anything to play through, then once I issue the mpc toggle command pulse is started and all is happy.
A final note is that I was getting this error yesterday when using systemd/User
    ● mpd.service - Music Player Daemon
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/mpd.service; enabled)
    Active: inactive (dead)

Jul 05 03:13:35 lorelai systemd[1]: Stopping Music Player Daemon...
Jul 05 03:13:35 lorelai systemd[1]: Stopped Music Player Daemon.
but it doesn't seem to happen anymore.
Also I have no idea if I'm even supposed to use it like this but
» sudo systemctl --user enable mpd ~
Failed to get D-Bus connection: Connection refused
I tried this because I was wondering if mpd was even using the correct service when using systemd/User. I thought perhaps it just was using the one in /etc/systemd/system/ instead of /usr/lib/systemd/user/. I'm still not sure about this.
In the end I've exhausted whatever I can think of. I'm sure I've done a lot of things wrong but I tried my best. Hopefully somebody knows what I've done wrong and can help me.

Well shit. I guess I didn't need to do all that other stuff. I only wish I'd known about this before wasting most of my day. Thank you very much, everything appears to be working flawlessly now.

  • How do I make a script "Run as administrator" on its own?

    Hello,
Win 8.1, VB scripts or PowerShell
Having discovered I previously failed to fully study UAC, I now understand why scripts transferred to a new Win 8.1 machine quit working.  They have to be 'Run As Administrator' on the new machine; then they work as before.  While I'm still
a little hazy on UAC, but continuing to study, it seems I'm left with a choice.  Please correct my perception of this choice if it's wrong:
    1) I can change my UAC settings (which I actually prefer not to do - I'm a safety guy...)
    2) I must always run my scripts by right clicking to the context menu and clicking "Run As Administrator"
    3) I learn if there is a way for my script to "Run As Administrator" on its own
Assuming my choices above are correct, I would like to focus on choice 3.
I've done some amount of research, but I'm not sure any of the solutions I saw actually accomplish choice 3.  Most of those posts indicate that the individual still had to enter a password or perform some other interaction after the script ran, so I'm
not sure why the solutions posted were an answer to what was basically the same as my question here.
Can a script be setup to Run As Administrator without requiring any further user interaction?  I'm wondering if this is actually a self-defeating question, because if a script can be setup as such, then wouldn't it bypass the very purpose
UAC was put in place, for protection?  Am I thinking incorrectly?
If it is possible to write the script so it really runs without further interaction, please point me where I might need to study more.
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    Alan

    Hi jrv,
So, I think we've unofficially become friends since you answered my question in .vbs because you know that's where I've been.  I really am trying to transition to .ps1, but thanks for the thought. :-)  I actually did write a test .ps1 using get-vm
(which is very cool thank you) but wasn't able to execute it other than running a batch file from the context menu selection 'Run As Administrator'.  The following is the operative line I used in the batch file (it doesn't seem like the -Verb runas
worked as I expected it to):
powershell -executionpolicy remotesigned -file C:\batchFiles\ps\vmstatus.ps1 -Verb runas
I am getting a book on Powershell to study.
But, regarding your line above, I think I applied your guidance correctly.  I created a shortcut with the following line in the target box (I'm assuming this is what you were directing me to do. I also assumed I was supposed to add powershell.exe
at the beginning of the line you posted above):
    C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe
    start-process cscript C:\batchFiles\vmStatus.vbs -Verb RunAs
Windows seem to add the full path for powershell.exe automatically.  It runs without requiring the context menu selection "Run As Administrator", but it
still brings up the UAC message box for permission to continue, which is what I was trying to address in my initial post when I was speaking to the possible self-defeating nature of my question to allow
    a script to bypass UAC.
I'm asking to confirm: having the UAC popup is in fact normal behavior that can't be side stepped unless other steps are taken.  So I guess I need to continue research to understand
what must be done to allow simple double-clicking of a shortcut to get a seamless execution without actually changing UAC.
Regarding STscripter's solution, I experienced the same UAC message box, so this post is also in response to that answer.
    Thanks again for your help.
    Best Regards,
    Alan

  • Adobe creative Cloud photshop cs 6 register user iam not getting COPY CSS options please help

iam adobe creative cloud photshop cs 6 register user iam not getting COPY CSS options even i have updated photoshop several times
still not getting this options please help
    Thanks
    Koushik

13.0.1 is the last version of Photoshop to run on Windows XP but it does not include the Copy CSS feature.
The Copy CSS feature was first introduced in Photoshop 13.1 (Cloud only) and higher.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2013/02/copy-css-attributes-in-photoshop-13-1.html
Photoshop 13.1 does not run on Windows XP. So your operating system is preventing you from upgrading Photoshop to 13.1+.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/new-system-requirements-photoshop-131.html
If you plan to remain a Cloud member then you will have to upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8 (or get a new computer) very soon in order to run Photoshop CC to be released on June 17, 2013.

You have limited opportunity to attempt to create a backup of your created files.
That is what the SafeBoot or safemode appears to allow you -- at the moment.
Since the hard disk drive exhibits signs of failure or other major issues, plan
on a replacement in the near future. You may be able to get the computer to
start up in a regular full OS X (not safe mode) but consider its hours are limited.
An externally enclosed hard disk drive (with own power supply, not relying on
Mac ports to run it) is a good basic means of which to use a disk utility to make
a copy or a Clone of the current OS X. This may help retrieve an archive that
could be used along with a Time Machine backup, to restore your Mac once you
get a new hard drive installed inside.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • [solved] Pulseaudio, multiple users, audio group?

    Hello!
I'm trying to get pulseaudio working for multiple users. According to the pulseaudio documentation, no user should be in the audio group which should theoretically make it work. I think I've also seen that information in a file distributed with the official archlinux package somewhere... But without users in that group, I'm not getting any sound at all.
    $ ls -l /dev/snd
    total 0
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 5. Okt 23:13 by-path
    crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 7 5. Okt 23:13 controlC0

    crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 1 5. Okt 23:13 seq
    crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 33 5. Okt 23:13 timer
That should - according to pusleaudio docu - mean, that HAL and/or polkit will be handling user switching & stuff but it can be overridden by the audio group...? Well it does not seem to be working that way.
So... where do I start? Can't find any relevant information... everything on the subject seems to be either obsolete or just not working...
    Thanks!

I log into a tty and let xfce handle the rest. Which means the first user's X gets started by startxfce4, the second user by xinit + xfce4-session (because I don't know how to make startxfce4 use another display).
I thought those two should handle everything correctly? I took a look at the sources a while back - looked pretty complicated to me: the scripts were checking for the status of needed stuff + trying to launch everything correctly.
But I'll try it manually again next time I get to it to make sure, that ck-launch-stuff is really handled correctly. Thanks for the hint!

plz tell me is there any system privilege to stop user from droping his own object or any other way along with trigger at database level.
    Thank u.

    Hi
DBAs can use PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE (in system schema) to disable certain SQL and SQL*Plus commands in the SQL*Plus environment on a per-user basis. SQL*Plus, not Oracle, enforces this security. DBAs can even restrict access to the GRANT, REVOKE, and SET ROLE commands in order to control users' ability to change their database privileges.
The PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE table enables you to list roles which you do not want users to activate with an application. You can also explicitly disable use of various commands, such as SET ROLE. For example, you could create an entry in the PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE table to:

  • Duplicated results running User Report in 8.1

    Hi,
I get duplicated resutls running User Report in IdM 8.1 (not pached).
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?
    Thanks,
    R.

    Thanks Gordon and Fidel
This is what we had been doing but it is not something that I would trust to an end user!
Have also done versions of the reports so that where there is a large date range entered it checks the number of days and if too large it will reduce the range before starting the read.

  • Cisco Flex Connect and users can not get IP Address by WAN

    Hello my name is Ivan
I have a wlc 5508 with license base to 50 aps, i use a deployment flex connect. I already registered all my access points, I use web authentication to authenticate users guest, and the service dhcp is in the central site.
My issue is the users in each remote site, can not get an ip address by dhcp from the central site, they can authenticate in the guest ssid, but any users can not get an ip.
The request is passing by the wan in this way
Central Site DHCP - Router WAN - Remote Site - Users with notebooks. I use flex connect central deployment (all the traffic consulting to the wlc) .
perhaps i should use local deploy? The wlc is in the central site.
Can you help me to resolving this issue please? , perhaps any advice?
    Regards
    Ivan.

    Thanks Osita
If I configure Central Authentication and  I configure central switching I need to create a dynamic interafce for each remote site and each dynamic interface associated with a different VLAN ID, because I can not associate a single interface dynamic to the same  VLAN ID, but in my case the client remote in each remote site have the same network segment with the same VLAN ID with the same SSID for guests. My goal is to configure web authentication with the local DHCP server at each remote site, will this work?.Each remote site have its own server dhcp.
If I configure authentication central authentication with central switching with web authenticacion as I set in my scenario?
My issues are the interfaces dynamics, because I have the same network to the customer guest with the same ID VLan in each remote site
