Purpose and use of item category Text (6)

What is the Purpose and use of item category Text (6).
it is meant for which biz scenario?

Thanks for your explanation.
Sorry I am not convinced on this biz scenario what has been posted. Why to enter just the text in the form of PO and maintain record in the system . One can send a word document or simply put a call to outside party for sending legal document.
Moreover it hardly matters whether the PO is of less value or nil value. In standard also we use free goods in PO also. SAP, I think without any specific reason will not provide item category Text "T"- there must be some strong reason for it.
Also please note that item category text T is also allowed in scheduling agreement for document type LP and LPA. then simply entering text in scheduling agreement for item category does not make any business sense.
If anybody has come across the biz scenario, please share in the forum. I searched and went to thread on similar topic but could not find any convincing answer on this.

  • What  is use of  Item Category N(non-stock item) in BOM creation

    Dear Experts,
What  is use of  Item Category N(non-stock item) in BOM creation ?
    regards
    rajakarthik

    Hi,
This item category is used for components which are not kept in stock if they are used in a bill of material (BOM). Non-stock items can be entered in the BOM with or without a master record. To enter a non-stock item without a master record, you must simply enter a descriptive text.
When you use this item category, the system automatically creates a purchase requisition for these components,
    Special functions
The following functions are supported for non-stock items
    • You maintain purchasing data for non-stock items in the bill of material.
    • In the planning run, the system generates purchase requisitions
instead of dependent requirements for components that are procured directly. When you configure your R/3 System for MRP, you can define whether direct procurement is triggered by the planning run or by production order management.
    • Product costing processes take valuation data from the BOM item.
The system determines the release strategy on the basis of the price data you enter. The material group is required to produce a purchase requisition.

  • Use of Item Category Group

    Hello All
can any one explain the functional use of Item category group maintained in CRM material master under basic data tab and also under sales and distribution tab.
what is the difference between two views and what happens if dont have value at Sales and distribution level.
    Regards
    Phani

    Hi Phani,
    1. Item category Group is just a key which comes from the Product master and helps in the item category determination.
Item category group in the Material Tab, is a general Item category Group valid for all sales areas.
Whereas the one maintained in the Sales and distribution tab becomes specific to that particular sales area.
For eg: To a Product HT-1011 u have assigned two sales areas say A and B
In the Material tab, we assign item category group NORM
In the Sales and Distribution tab, for sales area A , we assign item category group ZORM.
In the item category determination the following settings are maintained:
    Assumption transaction type is TA.
    Transaction Type: TA
    Item category Group : NORM
    Item category: TAN
    Transaction Type: TA
    Item category Group : ZORM
    Item category: TANN
Now in the sales order if u enter product HT-1011 and choose sales area A, TANN will get determined, if u choose B TAN will get determined.
It is not mandatory to put the item category group. It onlu helps in the item category determination. In case u have not assigned any item category group, it will look for a item category dtermination entry something like:
    Transaction Type: TA
    Item category Group :
    Item category: TAN
    Wish this helps.

  • "Material type HALB cannot be used with item category L (plant 1000)"

    Hi Guys
I am trying to copy the BOM of a material.
    The error msg.
"matrial type HALB cannot be used with item category L (plant 1000)"
Diagnosis: you want to enter a new componet with material type HALB and item category L.
Settings in IMG for production (master data> BOM > Item data > define item category) determine that inventory management for this item category is to be based on quantity.
However, other settings in the IMG for material HALB in plant 1000 determine that the quantities are not updated in the material master. This means that you cannot enter this material with item category L.
Can anyone tell me how to correct this error please.
    Thanks.
    Ahmad Yahya

    Hi Ahmad,
Follow this navigation path in SPRO
IMG: Logistics > Material Master > Basic Settings > Material Type > Define Attributes (OMS2)
Select a material type ( like in your case HALB) and navigate to Quantity/Value Updates. Now try to locate your plant to which you want to assign your BOM to. And then set the flags Qunatity Updating and Value Updating and save.
Now, you can come out of CS01(BOM creation) transaction and re-enter CS01. Now you can maintain the data and error will not come.

  • How to Use Default Item Category in a Shared Instance

    Hi Gurus,
Hope you all are doing well.
We have very critical issue. Infact we are implementing Oracle 12.1.3 for a Customer who is using a shared instance with another country. Infact the other country has already set Default Item Category Set, Now we also want ours.
How to Achieve the same, Please let me know.
We are also defining PO Approval Group Item Category range wise but there our category is not reflecting.
Please suggest me how to go about this.

    Hi Mahendra,
Shared instance means our customer has one single Business in Differennt Countries.
So they have already implemented for Indonesia Business and they have their own Ledger, OU and Inv Orgs etc.
Now we are implementing for India Business. So Default Category has been set by Indonesia team already.
But according to standard functionality of Oracle Default Category Set only reflect everywhere.
So the issue is we want to also use our category so that it will reflect while Creating POs, In Approval Group and in other place.
How to achieve the same ?
I hope this will give you the clarity.
    Regards,
AdityaFor one functional area we can have only one default category set
you need to define different categories in the flexfield value set...ex PO Item Category
so after defining them..you should be able to see them in item categories in purchasing approval groups
Also check if any values are been defaulted from the value set of the segment..
Like say..if value set has been set to dependent..with some default value...in that case you need to attach differnet value set to it..with new values..

  • Standard and free goods item category

    Hi
I have created one standard materia XYZ. in MM01( for Sales org 1000/ Dist. channel 10/  plant 1000.) and i have assigned TAN to this . Now i also need to process XYZ as free goods in some transactions. If  I  extend this material for the same organizational levels and  assign TANN to my material XYZ. then at the time of creating sales order how the system will respond?
Or should i have to change the item category in VF01 every time when i want to give XYZ as free goods?
what should be the right procedure?
    Regards
    Jyoti

    Hi Jyoti,
You mentioned that some times you send it as free item for this you better to enter TANN item category manually in the sales order  no need of enter the item category in the VF01.
Before entering the TANN in the sales order for free item you do the itemcategory determination in VOV4 transaction with TANN as like this
Document typeItemcatogory group-->Default itemcategory(DfltC)as TANManual item category as TANN(Mltca).
Now you can able to enter TANN itemcategory manually in sales order.
I hope it will help you,

  • Purpose and use of release creation profile

    Hi all,
Can anyone explain with example the use and significance of release creation profiles in outline aggrement
    with examples
    Thnks
    Gan

    Definition: release creation profile
An instrument used to determine the period in which releases (types of delivery schedule) are generated against a scheduling agreement and transmitted to the vendor.
The creation profile controls the creation periodicity of the releases, the aggregation of scheduled quantities starting from the day after release creation, and the implementation of a tolerance check to ensure that releases are only created in the case of major changes to the overall delivery schedule in the system.
    Example
A release creation profile for a scheduling agreement for which delivery schedule lines have been entered over several years specifies that releases are transmitted weekly from 01.01 to 12.31 of the first year. The release quantities are to be aggregated as follows:
For a period of 10 days starting from the current date of release creation: no aggregation. From the tenth to the thirtieth day: on a daily basis. From the thirtieth day to the sixtieth day: on a monthly basis.

  • Bom -item category

    Dear all
wht is use of item category text in bom? and how it will work?
At time of creation of production order the item category  is copied  in production order or not ?

    Hi,
    Bill of Material Item
    Definition
The components of a technical object are located in the items of the BOM. Item data is only valid for a particular item within the BOM.
    Structure
Items are differentiated by their category (). The item categories are differentiated by an item category key.
    Further important item indicators are
    Item Status
    Data relevant to Plant Maintenance
    Item Category
    Stock item
This item category applies to components which are kept as stock. Any components entered with this category in the BOM must have a valid master record in the system.
When you use this item category, stock item components are automatically reserved for the maintenance order.
    Non-stock item
This item category is used for components which are not kept in stock if they are used in a bill of material (BOM). Non-stock items can be entered in the BOM with or without a master record. To enter a non-stock item without a master record, you must simply enter a descriptive text.
When you use this item category, the system automatically creates a purchase requisition for these components, when they are used for maintenance purposes. This leads to order-specific materials procurement via the purchasing department.
    Variable-size item
This item category enables you to specify different sized sections of a component with one material number. Variable-size items are distinguished by the fact that format entries, such as length and width, are taken and converted into the quantity required for warehouse management purposes.
When you use this item category, variable data, such as the size of a steel sheet required to repair some planking, can be entered directly by the user during order processing. You do not have create new material master records with fixed dimensions in the system each time.
    Document item
This item category is for components which contain information stored as documents. A document can be a design drawing, program, photograph and so on.
When you use this item category, the bill of material (BOM) is connected to the document management system.
    Text item
When you use this item category, the system stores your text in a text file using the long text processing function.
    PM structure element
This item category is for components in plant maintenance which are only used for structuring a technical object (PM assembly). No plant data is necessary for this item.
This item category is only used in plant maintenance for equipment and material bills of material relevant to plant maintenance.
    Class Items
The class item enables you to create a class as the components in a configurable bill of material (BOM for a standard product). Several objects can be allocated to this class, and differentiated by different characteristics.
You can find further information relevant to variant configuration in the SAP documentation PP- Variant Configuration.
    Item Category Key
The different item categories are represented by a letter key in the standard SAP System:
    L stock item
    N non-stock item
    R variable-size item
    D document item
    T text item
    I PM structure element
    K class item
As the letters of an item category key are defined in Customizing, you can adapt the letters accordingly.

  • Item category M in RFQ

Hello experts!! i am trying to create RFQ with reference to value contract. The item category of value contract is M. when i am trying to create RFQ with reference of this contract i am not able to adopt item category M in RFQ. Please help.

    Hi,
Item Category M (Material Unknown): - Item category M is for entering contract items without specifying the material number. Item category M is recommended for similar materials with the same price but with differing material numbers.
Example: - Consider a contract item for different types of office paper. The various types of paper have the same weight, quality, and price. However, they differ in the following respects: One type is lined, another is unlined, and another has two holes on the left side for filing purposes.
Use of Item Category M: - In the case of items of category M, you enter the short text (short description), target quantity, unit of measure, and price. As soon as a contract release order or RFQ/Quotation is created, the material number or a short text is entered (e.g. the exact type of paper, say, two-hole punched). The system determines the net price on the basis of the gross price entered, less any discounts. That's the reason you are not able to take Item category "M", here take Standard Item Category i.e. "Blank" and proceed.

    Item Category:
You can Use T,D,K Item categories if you are not using the Material Master for the creation of PO.
But if you use D, K you have to enter the Account assignment category in the PO.
But if you use the item category" T" there is no necessity of Account assignment category. and here system will not ask for any qty or price to enter, just if you want a PO for external purpose you can create the PO by using this T item category.

  • Mis match in attributes of item category B and Blanket PO item details

    Hi
I could not able to create a Blanket PO with document type FO and item category B (limit).
Normally for a blanket PO, GR is not allowed and IR is mandatory. So, I could able to see these checkboxes for GR (not set and grayed) and IR (set and grayed) in the item details of the PO in delivery and invoice tabs. But I end with an error message that 'GR is not set is used is not allowed' (exactly i don't remember but some thing like that)
Before creating a blanket PO, I found that in 'attributes of item categories', that for the item category B, GR is set and IR is not set (in customizing-OMH4). Of course, one cannot change the attributes of item categories.
I suppose due to this mis-match in the attributes of item categories and that in the PO, I'm getting an error message while creating a blanket PO and could not able to save.
Also I have checked all the system messages for the message displayed. No where(i.e. in any message class or category and for that message number) I found any such message defined with error in 'attributes of system messages' for purchasing, material master, inventory, invoice verification etc.
I suppose this error message is coming somewhere from the application program for the PO.
So, what can be the solution
    waiting for your reply.
    thank you

Thank you for your answer. I haven't mention this point in my thread but I have already tried this.
I have tried matching the GR and IR controls of account assignment category with PO GR, IR controls and also with item category B, GR, IR controls. Still i am getting the same error and could not able to save the PO
Also I have checked the field settings for PO for all categories like transaction relevant, item category relevant, etc in customizing.
Main problem is both GR and IR controls are being grayed in PO. Other wise I could able to change them as per my wish and could able to avoid the error even though the GR and IR controls in PO are correct as per the process requirement.
If possible, please check the GR and IR controls for item category B (in my system it showing that GR is set with binding and IR is not set with binding). But it should be reverse as per the process requirements and in limit PO it is showing correctly. i.e. with GR is not set with binding and IR is set with binding.
    thank you

  • PR with combination of item category B = limit, and account assignment : F

    Hi,
Is it possible to create a blanket purchase order/framework requisition with combination item category B = limit, and account assignment : F ?
    Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Sachin on Sep 20, 2011 12:05 PM

    Hi A.Purihella / Raj,
    Thanks for your reply
I have maintained the B and F combination in the customization.
But when I am creating the PR using item category B with account assignment F (order) and after pressing enter, this account assignment F vanished from the PR and that field also turns in to gray mode. So system is not allowing to use u2018Fu2019 with B item category.
Have you used or tested this scenario of using combination item category B with account assignment F (order) in PR and PO.
    Best Regards,
    Sachin
