Purpose of mail address of group workspace

Dear beekeepers,
what is the actual purpose of defining a mail address for a group workspace?
beectl modify_team_workspace workspace wksp=my_team,enpr=org  email_address [email protected]
We thought, that by defining an address like [email protected], the Workspaces inbox would be publicly reachable as [email protected], but we found that such an address can only be addressed within beehive, and will report an "user unknown" message when used from the outside (of course with a sensible address including our domain).
Regards, Thomas

Then there is something wrong in your environment.
The email address is indeed to make the workspace addessable from outside. Internally within Beehive, email addresses are not used to resolve the users/workspaces/etc, they use the object id. But in order to accept email from outside, there needs to be a valid email address.
e.g. if your domain is "oracle.com" and the workspace is "teamws1" then e.g. the email address can be [email protected]

  • Can I import e-mail addresses and groups from Outlook Express?

I have just bought the latest iMac (with Leopard) and I'd like to know how to import my Outlook Express address book (about 1,100 entries) and groups (75 groups with between 5 and 150 members each) into Address Book.

    Hello Sijmons,
    Thank you for your response.
I already tried it. I used File/Import a mailbox ..., then "Mail" offer me to choose the software I used, and I had the choice to run Mcrosoft Entourage, Outlook Express, ... and others.
Then I went to the place where I have stocked the .dbx files.
But mail seems not to be able to read it.
Do you know how to read .dbx librairies with Mail ?
    Thanks in advance
    Have a good day

  • Mail + Address Book - groups not working

I'm able to create groups just fine in Address book.
However when it comes to using them in Mail, they won't work:
I type the first couple of characters and Mail offers to auto-complete,
so it does know about them. When I hit return at that point *nothing*
appears in the address field, it just stays blank.
Any ideas what's going on here and how to fix it?

Hi jwabbit, I was interested in your reply since it sounded easy to implement. However, my issue is similar but is not fixed with your solution.
I have created a group in Mail. It displays fine and when I type the first few letters of the name in the "To" box of a new blank email, the name of the group pops up. However, when I press return it only adds the first 2 names out of 8 in the group.
I have checked that all the names are ones that I have used regularly for some weeks, so they are real emails.
The other thing I tried was to have both Mail and Contacts open at the same time, then selected all the names in the group and tried dragging and dropping over the To box in Mail. However, again it simply adds the first 2 names and ignores the others.
Each of the other 6 names add fine individually, but that defeats the point of setting up the group!
    Any thoughts?

  • Using multiple e-mail addresses from cards in group listings

I have set up a group to send an e-mail to a bunch of people. Many of the recipients have multiple e-mail addresses. I know how to choose which of the contacts addresses to use, in the "edit distribution list", however I can not figure out how to use multiple addresses from a contacts card. This seems like it would be a pretty importannt function
Anybody know how to do this.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If a Group member has multiple email addresses and when addressing a message to the Group you want to send the message to all email addresses for that member, that member must be available in the Group for each email address that you want to include.
If a member has 3 email addresses and you want to include all 3 addresses when addressing a message to the Group, that member must be available 3 times in the Group and this can be done via copy and past for the member within the Group.
After doing so, use the Edit Distribution list selecting a different email address for each copy of that member.

  • How to create a group of e-mail addresses

    Hi,
I need to create a group of recipients (mailing list) using a list of e-mail addresses. I guess I need to use the Address Book, but I could not find the correct way to copy/paste the entire block of addresses. The only way I found was to insert each address, one by one. This drives me crazy because I have to insert some dozens of addresses. Any suggestions? Thanks

This would be an ideal use of Address Book's File > Import...
    From Address Book's help:
    To import contacts:
Export addresses from another application in a supported format.
Before exporting tab-delimited or CSV files, you may want to note the order of the information fields. If the file doesn’t contain labels, you can refer to your notes to manually identify the fields in a later step.
If the application you’re exporting from supports it, export vCards that include multiple contacts to speed up importing. For example, in Outlook select all of your contacts and choose to forward them as vCards. Send the email message, which includes a vCard attachment for each selected contact, to yourself on your Mac computer. In Mail, save the vCard attachments, and then use Address Book to import them.
Verify the exported .txt or CSV files using a text editor such as TextEdit.
Make sure there are no line breaks within a contact’s information, which can cause the import to fail. Remove any line breaks you find.
Make sure that fields in a .txt or tab-delimited file are separated by a tab, and fields in a CSV file are separated by a comma, instead of by quotation marks or another character. Do not include spaces before or after tabs and commas.
Make sure all addresses have the same number of fields; add empty fields as needed.
In Address Book, choose File > Import, select the file you want to import, change the encoding if necessary, and then click Open.
If you’re importing a text file, review the field labels Address Book will use for the information. You can change field labels, or choose to ignore or not import fields.
If the first card contains headers, review the headers to make sure they are correctly labeled or marked as “Do not import,” and make changes as necessary. Any changes you make to this card are made in all of the cards in the file. To exclude the headers card from being imported, select the “Ignore first card” checkbox.
Use the arrows to browse information in the file to determine if fields need to be relabeled or not imported.
To change a label, click the arrows next to the label and choose a new label from the pop-up menu. If you don’t want to import a field, choose “Do not import.”

  • Cannot send mail to a group if hiding addresses

I can't send mail to a group unless I show all member addresses. If I uncheck this preference I recieve the following error dialogue:
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Sending the message content to the server failed.
Very frustrating and infuriating for my reciepients. Any ideas?

  • When I enter a group name into the Bcc field and try to send the message, I get "[group name] is not a valid e-mail address..."

Been using the same template to send a weekly newsletter for a year or two but now with a recent update to Thunderbird the group name is rejected when I try to send the message:
With a group name in Bcc field, when I press "Send" and try to send the message, I get this alert: "[group name] is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the e-mail."

This has been reported as [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1060901 Bug #1060901]. If you have an account on Bugzilla, please consider voting for that issue.
Several other people have sent in the same support request as you, noting this happened after they upgraded to version 31.1.
The exact error message is: XXXX is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the e-mail.
'''This happens in Thunderbird 31.1.0 when your mailing list description includes several words separated by spaces.'''
Although not ideal, these workarounds should let you use your mailing lists until a proper fix is implemented:
    * While composing an email open the address book and select the list you are trying to send to, highlight all the names in the list and drag them to the To: box. This uses your existing data without modifying it.
    * Replacing the blanks " " between the words in such lists' descriptions with an underscore "_". This requires modifying your mailing list(s) description(s).
    * Downgrade to a previous version and disable automatic updates (Windows)

  • How to I list the e-mail addresses in my contacts group? Mine seem to go to only the first address.

How do I list the e-mail addresses in my contacts group? It seems to go only to the first address.

    Hi ozziejack123,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The individual contacts are sorted first within the Contact application.  When you create a group in Contacts, the individual names in the group should keep the same sorting order.  Try resetting the name order for all contacts.
Contacts (Mavericks): List contacts by first or last name
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH15091
Choose whether contacts’ first or last names are listed first, and whether they’re sorted by first or last name.
Change the name order for all contacts
Choose Contacts > Preferences, then click General.
Select an option next to “Show first name.”
    Sort contacts
Choose Contacts > Preferences, then click General.
Use the Sort By menu to choose how to sort.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Group mail address not working

Maverick 10.9.2 tilll not allow me to put groups into my email address bar.

It sounds like your group contains one card. Mail will only use one email address per card when you compose to a group. You have control over which email address is selected, though. You can select the Edit > Edit Distribution List... menu item, then select a group, then click on an email address per group member to make it bold.

Since downloading OS10.91 Maverick I can no longer send group e-mail messages without others in the group reading each others e-mail addresses.  This is dispite the fact that I have ensured that the relevant box under PREFERENCES is not ticked.
    Can anyone advise please
    Many thanks

This is a bug that many have posted about. The only workaround at this point is to add your group to the Bcc field, where individual names and addresses will not appear to recipients.

  • What is the best way to sent a GROUP of pictures from Camera Roll to another e-mail address?

Have a group (45-50) separate pictures taken - in Camera Roll - with iPhone camera.
Need to send them to another e-mail address, but would like to send as a group (or series of smaller groups) rather than one at a time.
Any suggestions for "bulk" selection of sharing?

You can actually select up to 5 pictures at a time to email. Better choice would be to import them to the computer and send them that way, depending on any restrictions by the mail provider on attachment sizes, or you could use something like Dropbox and then just email the link to share with others.

Check all the addresses in the group to make sure they're correct. Many mail servers, Exchange for example, will reject a message entirely if any email in the group is incorrect.

  • Question: why mail does not recognize an address book  group

i could not find an address book forum - excuse me if i post here.
an address book group with about 20 names has worked well for a year.
today i added and deleted a few names. now mail does not recognize the name as an email group.
i created a new group with a new name and imported all the names in one block from the non working group. the new group also is not recognized as having email addesses in mail.
my other groups seem to work fine.
i had entourage for awhile and had to rebuild it periodically. do i need to do something similar here.
    thanks

Check the names of your groups that you have this issue with to make sure you don't have any special characters or extra spaces at the beginning or end of the group name.
I just found another posting on the message boards that solved my issues. Someone discovered that they had a blank space in their group name which was causing the error. I didn't have any extra spaces at th end of the group name, but I did have a period in my group name (St. Francis). I removed the period from the group name in address book and now the emails send to that group without the error message.

  • Address Book groups and Mail

Have updated to Maveriks 10.9.4. Now when I want to write an e-mail in Mail to a group from my Address Book (some of which have groups within them), none of the "groups in groups" work anymore. Also the smart groups don't work. This used to be fine in Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion. How do I fix this bug?

When composing a new email with Mail, is it possible to filter a user to only see a specific group or groups within Address Book? I am using MobileMe to sync our computers, so all contacts and contact groups are in the Address Book app on all computers. My wife only wants to see the contacts in her group when composing an email instead of all contacts and all groups.
Is there a way to limit which groups she has access to use when composing an email?
no. all address book entries will be available when you are composing a message.
the only option you have is to completely turn off automatic address completion. that's done in mail preferences->composing.
