PXI-5404 Voltage Output

I want to use the PXI-5404 to generate a frequency sweep and am executing the example found here: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/3820
Frequency sweeping works well for the SINE output, but the voltage levels are much lower than expected.  The SINE output for CH 0 is at a maximum ±30 mV, and the CLKOUT output for CH 0 is a DC signal at whichever high voltage I specify.
Please help.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,
I have tested the PXI-5404 and PXI-5105 on our test chassis and see that the output works properly.  For this test, I had connected the CH 0 SINE output to CH 0 of the PXI-5105 and CH 0 CLOCK Out to CH 1 of the PXI-5105.  CH 0 impedance was set to 50 Ohms and CH 1 to 1 MOhm.
So it appears that there is either an issue with your SMB connection or the PXI-5404 card itself.  You mentioned that you tried a different scope and saw the same results so I assume that the problem is not with the PXI-5105.  If you try another cable and ensure a proper connection, but still see the same results you more than likely have a broken PXI-5404.  In this case you can create an RMA request by calling 1-866-ASK-MYNI (1-866-275-6964).

  • How can I monitor the voltage output sent to each servo axis programmatically?

Hi I am wondering if it is possible to monitor the voltage that's being sent to a servo motor during an axis position movement (in particular quantities such as max voltage). I am using a PID controller to drive this servo motor.
    Thanks
    Vlad

    Hi Vlad,
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to programmatically read the voltage output to the drive, as the voltage is all determined internally by the controller circuitry on the board. Depending on the controller though, you may be able to physically route the output terminal to a spare analog input channel and read in the voltage that way. This example Analog Input with 73xx Motion Card shows you how to program LabVIEW to do this.

    Hi achyuth,
Thank you for posting on the National Instruments forum.
I am not sure what you are trying to do.  Are you trying to input and output at the

    Yun,
Here's a simple example I wrote that does what you are trying to do. You can wire an array into an Analog Out 1D DBL 1 chan N Samples. Then I wired the size of the array into the number of samples per channel on the timing vi.

  • Accesorios para el NI PXI-5404

    Cordial saludo,
necesito saber si es indispensable comprar accesorios para que el producto generador de frecuencias NI PXI-5404, pueda ser puesto en funcionamiento. y cuales son esos accesorios?
    Gracias

    Ir a solución.

    Hola Andreamar;

  • I'm working on DC Motor control using DAQ. There is sufficient voltage output from DAQ but not current. What should i do so as to drive the motor

I'm working on DC Motor control using DAQ. There is sufficient voltage output from DAQ but not current. What should i do so as to drive the motor. Could you suggest me appropriate driver IC using which this problem can be solved.

You really should use a DC motor controller to control a DC motor, look at the 754410 IC for a good example. You should be able to interface these to most DAQ devices.

  • How to convert a voltage output from a Rogowski coil to its original current waveform ?

I need to measure current using a Rogowski coil. The voltage output of the coil across a 1k load resistance is directly proportional to the "rate of change of current" flowing through the conductor passing through the center of this coil. So the output is actually :
    y = M * di/dt ; where M is the mutual inductance of the coil.
I need the output waveform as i(t). This means an integration is required.
Can some one help me out with this ?
I am also told that in the frequency domain this integration means a -20dB/decade attenuation and a constant -90 degree phase shift. This is some thing I cannot work out with Labview since I am new to it. I tried a mathematical integratio
    n. But this also does not work.
Could someone help me out with this ?
    Regards
    PC

To come up with the most straight forward approach, forget for a moment that you are using LV and think about how you would calculate the answer using paper and pencil.
You have an input value that (using the formula you gave) is related to the rate change for a parameter (in this case the current). Given that rate of change, how do you calculate the absolute value of the parameter at any given point in time? It's really just a math problem...
Once you have it worked out on paper, just do the same calculations in LV.

  • Motion Assistant and PXI-7354 PWM output

    Hello,
I have a PXI-7354 Motion Controller in a PXI-1033 rack and I'm trying to prototype a product which has a digital motor controller IC, A3906 by Allegro. The IC is controlled with PWM signals by varying the duty cycle. Now, in the NI 7350 User Manual on page 5-17, it says that "These signals (PWM) are configured in software and are in no way associated with the PID servo control loop." My question is, can I programmatically associate the output of the control loop with a PWM output duty cycle?
I'm new to Motion Assistant and PXI motion controllers and I appreciate any input.

    Miika,
thank you for the information, but there is no way for the 7354 to drive control signals directly in this fashion. So here are some alternative approaches that could help:
The 7354 outputs a +/- 10 V control signal. You could build your own circuitry to adapt this signal to the control input requirements of your drive (two voltage to PWM converters; one driven by positive voltage values, the other one driven by negative voltage values).
Replace the 7354 with an R-Series board. The FPGA on these devices can be programmed graphically with LabVIEW FPGA and it provides both, real-time control and complete flexibility in terms of I/O mapping and control algorithms. Motion control with special requirements is a typcial usecase for these devices.
You can select from a variety of R-Series boards with different FPGA sizes and I/O setups. If you don't need any analog inputs or outputs, the reasonable lowest cost entry point for your application is probably a PXI-7811R
Both approaches add some complexity to your current setup. While the first approach is hardware centric, the second approach adds some complexity on the software side. My personal preference is option two, as this provides the highest level of flexibility, which is typically very desirable for a prototyping system.
In any case I recommend to contact your local NI contact for a more detailed consulting.
    Kind regards,
    Jochen

  • PXI 6030e Voltage measurement

    Hello All,
I have a PXI 6030E DAQ with a SCB-68 connector board.  I am setting up a simple voltage divider and connecting my Vout to pin 68 on the SCB-68.  My ground is going to pin 67.  My Vin is 5 V DC.  I used DAQ assistant to automatically generate code to read the voltage and put it in a while loop.  My R1 is a device (Copper Interdigitated Electrodes coated with Dow Corning Silicone), and my R2 is 100 Mohm resistor.  I am using an OP Amp as an isolator between the impedance on my DAQ and my voltage divider.  Unfortunately, when I run this program it will not reach a steady value or progrssively drop the voltage.  Is there something I am missing here as to why it will not allow me to get the reading I want?

Thank you!  I actually found it last night 5 minutes after I wrote the message.  I constructed the Wheatstone bridge and used a differential reading from the 2 nodes connecting each leg.  Unfortunately I received a reading that is about 10 % higher than what I calculated.  When I do a reading with respect to ground (RSE) and probe both sides of the bridge separately (with a single channel, not simultaneaously) I simply subtract the reading I receive from each side and obtain the correct value.  Ideally when using the differential method in DAQ Assistant  it is suppose to give me the right reading, but why is this giving me a different value when DAQ assistant is configured to take a differential reading.  My program is exactly like the example provided by NI.  Except I am adding the values from each signal and outputing them to a numeric indicator vi. All suggestions are welcomed!
    Thank you.

  • How to use a Time - Voltage Array to Control a Analog Voltage Output using DAQmx Write VI

I have an array of Time values associate with Voltage values that I want to use to control a Anolog Votage Out Device (PXI-6251) using DAQmx.  The array contains 1,000 elements.  The time values are NOT evenly spaced, the rate changes through the array.  The array is output once, timed to other processes.
My problem is I haven't been able to locate a reference on how to handle the timing variability in the array.  If time was equally spaced I could use a loop....
The attached showes the array, first row is time (ms) and the second row is voltage (volts).
Can someone point me in the right direction?

    David,
if you have only Base version of LabVIEW, this will be a time consuming task.
If you have either Full or Professional, you will find interpolation-functions in the mathematic palette.
I am not sure which ones serves you best,  but i'd startexperimenting with Interpolate 2D.
    hope this helps,
    Norbert
[Edit]: You could also use a polynominal fit on your voltage values. You will get a function describing the voltage over time. But you will have to modify this function to take care of the variation of time spacing. If you have a function describing your voltage over your (nonconstant) timestamps, you can simply create values for constant timeslices for your voltage.

  • Changing the PXI-6624 Counter Output rate on the fly

I'm programming an application in VB.net 2005 to set several counter output channels (each with its own task) on the PXI-6624 card. I'd like to know if there is a way to change the frequency of the output without stopping the task, changing the frequency and restarting the task. I'm using the PXI-6624 card to simulate encoders and speed sensors.

  • PXI-6229 counter output

    Hi,
I was using the DAQMx test panel for PXI-6229 module with my PXI-6229  card. I couldn't find an option of routing the counter pulse generation output to different PFIs. It is locked at PFI12 for ctr0 and PFI13 to ctr1. Is there some way by which I can route to other PFIs in the test panel or do I have to write code for it.
I want to route ctr0 output to PFI10 and route PFI12 as a counter input to measure frequency.
    Please let me know
    Thanks
    Shiladitya

    Shiladitya,
The Test panels are designed for functional testing only, and do not necessarily expose all capabilities of the device. In order to route these signals to custom PFI lines, you would need to write code. In LabVIEW, this would be done using a DAQmx Channel Property Node. Simply wire the intended terminal to the CO.Pulse.Term property.

  • How do I calculate the max latency of a PXI 8135 (controller) to PXI 6528 (DIO) output?

We are using a PXIe- 8135 Controller and a PXI-6528 DIO module in a PXIe-1082 chassis.  We are sending DIO input and output commands using Powershell in Windows 7 on the controller.  Due to tight requirements I need to know what is the max latency from when the Powershell command is issued to when the read input or write output command will take place in the DIO I/Os.
If this should be in a different Community Board Location please let me know.
Thanks for the help in advance,
    Dan_F

    Hello dan_f,
As the latency of Powershell and Windows are not tested, it is hard to determine the latency of your setup.  The latency from the PXIe-8135 to the PXI-6528 should be in the realm of nanoseconds.  The PXI-6528 does have a couple of latency numbers that can be found within the user manual on Page 24, and they are as follows:
Minimum pulse-width for change detection - 150 µs
Propagation delay - 65 µs, typical
You may be able to do some testing to ballpark the latency of the controller OS/software side of the input/output commands, but depending on how critical this latency is to your measurements, you may want to look into using a real-time OS instead.

  • How to create a voltage output based on an ultrasonic sensor input

For a school project we are trying to use an ultrasonic sensor to control the voltage sent to a group of leds. We calibrated the sensor and determined six different voltage levels that we wished to output to the leds based on the voltage input to the sensor. We set up a labview program and were going use one of the mathnodes that allows code to be written to send a signal to a case structure to send the output voltage. Each case has a different output voltage associated with it. We can't seem to get the math node to work with the case structure to get an output. I have attached a screen shot of our block diagram and a copy of our .vi file. If anyone has any input it would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Have you used highlight execution or probes to confirm the output of the Mathscript node? Also, though LabVIEW is coercing your output, it is not best practice to wire a double (floating point) to a case structure (discrete cases). I would recommend changing the data type to an integer.
Please let me know the results of the probe steps.
