Q: How do I break the boot sequence on a Catalyst 3850

Should be a pretty simple question, but I can't seem to find an answer and I've tried all of the old tricks.
What I want to know is simple, using a terminal emulator (or in my case a Cisco router as a terminal server) how can I issue a 'break' to interrupt the boot process of a Cat 3850?
I know that if I have physical access to the switch, you just hold the 'mode' button down until the boot process is interrupted, but what if you don't have physical access?
I've changed the ENABLE_BREAK variable to 1 (using the boot enable-break switch 1 command in IOSXE), but I still can't seem to interrupt the boot process without physical access.
Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

If I dont have access to the mode button on front, I prefer to just change the "manual boot" variable to yes. Dont forget to change it back once you are done
::Example
Switch#show boot system switch 1
Switch 1
Current Boot Variables:
BOOT variable does not exist
Boot Variables on next reload:
BOOT variable = flash:packages.conf;
Manual Boot = no  <------- Default
Enable Break = no
Switch#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
Switch(config)#boot manual switch 1
Switch(config)#exit
Switch#show boot system switch 1
Switch 1
Current Boot Variables:
BOOT variable does not exist
Boot Variables on next reload:
BOOT variable = flash:packages.conf;
Manual Boot = yes <--------------- now will pause on boot
Enable Break = no
++++ Dont forget to turn it off
Switch(config)#no boot manual switch 1

  • Ibook g4 (2005) wont boot from cd.  always wants to boot from hd.  how do i change the boot sequence?

so my ibook as i wrote will not boot from the cd rom.  it always wants to boot from the hd but i had the hd wiped b/c it had linux and it would not allow me to access the firmware.  now that the hd is clean i was able to access the firmware but i dont know how to change the boot sequence.  the starts to spin in the drive and acts like it want to boot from the cd but the cd just keeps spinning and i get a screen with a blinking question mark and smiley face.

Hello and welcome to the support community.
Why do you need to go into the firmware?
If the disk is a boot disk like Mac OS X, then all you need to do is hold down 'C' key or the option key while the disk is in the drive and the iBook is booting up (After the chime)
If either doesn't work, then there must be an issue with the disk not being a boot disk or corrupted. Alternatively a problem with the optical drive. You don't need to go into the firmware to change any boot selection.
    Hope this helps

  • Hi, how can i break the value for a row and column once i have converted the image to the array???????

Hi, I would like to know how can i break the value for a row and column once i have converted the image to the array. I wanted to make some modification on the element of the array at a certain position. how can i do that?
At the moment (as per attachhment), the value of the new row and column will be inserted by the user. But now, I want to do some coding that will automatically insert the new value of the row and the column ( I will use the formula node for the programming). But the question now, I don't know how to split the row and the column. Is it the value of i in the 'for loop'? I've  tried to link the 'i' to the input of the 'replace subset array icon' , but i'm unable to do it as i got some error.
    Please help me!
For your information, I'm using LABView 7.0.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply.Sorry for the confusion.
I manage to change the array element by changing the row and column value. But, what i want is to allow the program to change the array element at a specified row and column value, where the new value is generated automatically by the program.
Atatched is the diagram. I've detailed out the program . you may refer to the comments in the formula node. There are 2 arrays going into the loop. If a >3, then the program will switch to b, where if b =0, then the program will check on the value of the next element which is in the same row with b but in the next column. But if b =45, another set of checking will be done at a dufferent value of row and column.
I hope that I have made the problem clear. Sorry if it is still confusing.
Hope you can help me. Thank you!!!!

  • How can I view the boot volume permissions?

How can I view the boot volume permissions in the Terminal and/or Single User Mode?
I have tried: 'ls -l /Volumes' but this appears to only work for the non-boot volumes. I can test this by 'sudo chmod 777 /' followed by 'ls -l /Volumes' but the change is not reflected by the new list.

I prefer to have my bootable volumes as follows:
    drwxrwxr-x
I see no point in allowing others to write to / and sticky here often gets in my way. Can you see anything wrong with this?
I couldn't say, as I let Mac OS X do what it wants with the / root directory. I don't know how sticky can hurt, as you need to have elavated privs to do anything in root anyway.
But if it is working for you, have fun. Just make a note to yourself somewhere that you have made this change, so that if something stops working, you can take this change into consideration. And if this change does not cause problems, but does something useful for you, you can use the note to remind yourself that you need to re-make the change when installing a new system. So take notes on your changes. It will make your life easier in the future.

  • FAQ: How do I choose the right sequence settings?

In general, the settings of a sequence should match those of the primary footage type in the sequence. Though Premiere Pro can mix footage of various types in a sequence and compensate for differences in characteristics, performance and quality are maximized when such conversions are avoided.
See this video for more information:
How do I choose the right sequence settings?

Sorry to say this - but you've got the wrong advice from Adobe.
You were right in selecting the profile for Epson premium glossy paper - if that's what you are printing on.
The magenta cast is most probably due to double color management, i.e. color management for your printer was not switched off. You did all the right moves , but still the color management for the printer was not switched off. This seems to be an Epson - Lightroom problem. You are about the fourth poster who has this problem with Lightroom and Epson printers. All of them said that they were sure that they had color management by the Epson printer switched off. There seems to be a hidden setting that prevails or is called by Lr.
The magenta cast is typical for double color management.
Read this - maybe it helps: http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/dp/Epson3800/printworkflow.html#display_calibration
Don't miss the section on  "How to print images from Lightroom".
I don't have an Epson printer so can't give you further insight on this. Except ...
Disable - temporarily - all custom print profiles and templates that you may have created. Move them to a different folder where Lr does not find them. I cannot guarantee that this helps but if the problem persists it might be worth a try.
One of the above mentioned posters said that the problem disappeared after disabling an old print preset that he had created for a prior version of Lr.

  • How do i break the mirror ?

My root and var are mirrored , My server panic'd and i ran fsck on my filesystems but still cannot bring up this server how do i break the mirror ?

    What are you using?
If it's DiskSuite then use metadetach, you will have to force this though. Also check your metadb's as you need 50% or more to be in a good state (this may be your problem).
#metadetach -f d* d# (* is the mirror name and # is the submirror slice)
    #metadb
#metadb -d /dev/dsk/c*t*d*s* (to clear the metadb's on this disk)
To reinstate the metadb's you need to run:
    #metadb -a -c <how many you want> /dev/dsk/c*t*d*s*
To reinstate the mirror it is:
    #metattach d* d# (same numbers as above)
If Veritas just use option 5 of vxdiskadm.

  • How to separately backup the Boot Camp drivers partition from Leopard DVD?

I used Disk Utility and my only (and expensive) DVD+R DL disc to make a backup copy of my Leopard DVD, and it worked perfectly to install Leopard on my MacBook Pro.
However, that was before I learned that the Boot Camp drivers was now on a separate, PC-only partition on the DVD. So while my backup copy works great to install Leopard, I have no backup of the Boot Camp driver CD.
I tried several tricks, including booting into Windows Vista and using PowerISO to attempt to make an ISO image of the Boot Camp driver partition (shows up as 400 MB or so). However, the ISO image generated is a whopping 7.6 GB, same size as the full Leopard DVD. I then tried to take that back into the Mac OS side, but it was "unmountable". Toast 8 was able to make an image of the full DVD that (I'd presume, as did previous versions of Toast) would contain both partitions of an ISO-9660 volume, but when I mounted that disk image with Toast 8, I didn't get the two-mounted-volume like I'd normally expect to see.
I'd really like to know how to backup this volume - I demo this system regularly on my MacBook for clients, and I don't want to have to keep using my nice, pristine Leopard DVD when I have to do my weekly re-install. Any thoughts on how to get a simple extraction of the actual volume used for the Boot Camp drivers?
    Thanks much for the time,
    MBJ

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question! Although I think your steps will "work", per se (and I will try them out as soon as I can), I'm something of a purist in regards to my backups and so this method seems a little hackish as opposed to a process that actually images the volume in question (I'm also curious from a technical perspective, as the Boot Camp Assistant Beta used to allow for a dedicated MacintoshDrivers disc to be burned from it—I liked that method better, to be honest).
Thanks again! I'll keep checking back here for other comments, and will let you know how the method you suggested works out.
    Best wishes,
    MBJ

  • How do you break the cycles in "connect by nocycles" query.

I looked at the documentation of the oracle hierarchical queries to see if there is a deterministic way of breaking the cycles.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17118/queries003.htm
I understand that plain connect by query fails if there are cycles in the data, this can be over come by using the nocycles clause. But how does oracle handle the cycles if it finds one, is there a deterministic way of breaking the cycles, or is random? If it is deterministic, Is there a sophisticated algorithm you use to break the cycles?
My sample query is as shown below:
    SELECT ename "Employee", CONNECT_BY_ISCYCLE "Cycle",
    LEVEL, SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH(ename, ’/’) "Path"
    FROM scott.emp
    WHERE level <= 3 AND deptno = 10
    START WITH ename = ’KING’
    CONNECT BY NOCYCLE PRIOR empno = mgr AND LEVEL <= 4;
    Thanks,
    Paul

Thanks for the very detailed explanation Frank.
It is interesting that the cycles are not broken at the time of the creation of the hierarchies, but at the time of the traversal. The relationship is only defined in the CONNECT BY clause of a query. When you create and populate tables, you don't indicate in any way that certain columns will be used in a CONNECT BY clause. You're free to use any columns you want when you write the query. You can use different columns and different relationships in different queries.
This leads me to one more question:
Lets say there are multiple routes from a given ancestor node to a decedent node, what would be the value of PATH pseudo column. Does it consider the shortest path or the longest path? If the two routes are of the same length? which would be used? The same node can appear more than once as a descendant of the same ancestor. All paths that satisfy the CONNECT BY clause (and the WHERE clause, if there is one) will be included. For example, the following query shows how Prince William is related to one of his ancestors, Anna Sophie (1700-1780):
    SELECT     LEVEL
    ,     SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH (name, ' \ ')     AS path
    FROM     royal
WHERE     name     = 'Anna Sophie of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt'
START WITH     name     = 'William of Wales'
CONNECT BY     id     IN (PRIOR mother_id, PRIOR father_id)
;The genealogy table I used showed 8 different line of descent, ranging from 10 to 12 generations:

It's free if all you're using it for is learning.
You can also get a free workspace in an Oracle-hosted database at apex.oracle.com.

  • How do I change default boot sequence?

I just got a K8T Ne0 FIS2R.  I am booting to a SATA 120G drive that has Win XP Prof loaded up.  When I attach my IDE drives, I have to stop the post (F11) to manually point to "BBS-0 RAID" or my machine will default to an IDE drive (which ever is plugged in) and give me "NTLDR not loaded."
Can I change the default boot sequence (i.e. so that I don't have to manually stop-n-point every time)?
All my drives (1 SATA, 2 IDE) work once I point to the right startup device (SATA 120G).
    Thanks for any helpful hints.

  • How can we change the column sequence from 1st to 7th position

    Hi
I have a table in which I have a column naming DNAME and it is is on the first position I want to change its position to 7 that is the last one. The table is huge filled with data.
Is there ant way in which I can cange the position of the column with out recreating in into another table and then renaming it.
    Thanks

    Hello,
The sequence of a column in a table is meaningless and you should treat it as such. The column ordering you see when you run a "select * from ..." query is based on the physical implementation of the table, which is completely separate from the logical interpretation, and should not be relied on in a programmatic context. It should essentially be viewed as "random" and prone to change with the physical storage properties of the table (although this is not always the case, there is no assurance of this).
One way to do this (which happens to be the easiest and least resource-intensive in this case) is to create a view (derived relation) of the base table, with the columns ordered in the specific sequence you desire. But really, the column ordering here is still meaningless, and the only time your application should rely on the order is when you specifically list the columns you require in a query -- but NEVER a "select *".
    cheers,
    Anthony
