Q10 business practices are hurting your best customers

Its sad that you decided to sell this phone exclusivly with the big (highest priced) cell providers (at least in Canada)
I am not a fan of Rogers or Bell but am a big supporter of blackberry products. I really wanted this phone and after waiting a month for the other providers to get it i gave up and decided to take my chances with on ebay / craigslist. (as you left your customers no other choice)
After a great deal of naivety on my part I got screwed out of my money and still don’t own a Q10. I’m not blaming Blackberry for that, that’s my lesson to learn. But I can’t help think if you cared a little more about your “eager/best” customers this would have never happened…
But hell, I’m sure Rogers/Bell gave great kickbacks for selling out your own customers

Ouch! Sorry for you loss!
Always best to do your propper vetting of any private sellers, and then do it twice again.

  • Oracle inventory-does it capture best business practices

    Hello all,
I have a basic but imp qn , for which I have tried to find a comprehensive answer but in vain
I would like to know what features in oracle apps make you say that it is integrated and captures best business practices..
provide your views or help me to find resources that will clear my query....
    Thanks a lot
    Anand

    Anand,
Your question is not clear for me to provide an answer. Basically, the shared entities like item, SOB etc provides the integration of various models and Security, Validation Rules provide the security for the data.
Make your question clear, I will try to answer.
    Thanks,

  • Best Practice Table Creation for Multiple Customers, Weekly/Monthly Sales Data in Multiple Fields

We have an homegrown Access database originally designed in 2000 that now has an SQL back-end.  The database has not yet been converted to a higher format such as Access 2007 since at least 2 users are still on Access 2003.  It is fine if suggestions
will only work with Access 2007 or higher.
I'm trying to determine if our database is the best place to do this or if we should look at another solution.  We have thousands of products each with a single identifier.  There are customers who provide us regular sales reporting for what was
sold in a given time period -- weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly time periods being most important.  This reporting may or may not include all of our product identifiers.  The reporting is typically based on calendar-defined timing although we have
some customers who have their own calendars which may not align to a calendar month or calendar year so recording the time period can be helpful.
Each customer's sales report can contain anything from 1,000-20,000 rows of products for each report.  Each customer report is different and they typically have between 4-30 columns of data for each product; headers are consistently named.  The
product identifiers included may vary by customer and even within each report for a customer; the data in the product identifier row changes each week.  Headers include a wide variety of data such as overall on hand, overall on order, unsellable on hand,
returns, on hand information for each location or customer grouping, sell-through units information for each location or customer grouping for that given time period, sell-through dollars information for each location or customer grouping for that given time
period,  sell-through units information for each location or customer grouping for a cumulative time period (same thing for dollars), warehouse on hands, warehouse on orders, the customer's unique categorization of our product in their system, the customer's
current status code for that product, and so on.
Currently all of this data is stored in a multitude of Excel spreadsheets (by customer, division and time period).  Due to overall volume of information and number of Excel sheets, cross-referencing can take considerable time.  Is it possible to
set-up tables for our largest customers so I can create queries and pivot tables to more quickly look at sales-related information by category, by specific product(s), by partner, by specific products or categories across partners, by specific products or
categories across specific weeks/months/years, etc.  We do have a separate product table so only the product identifier or a junction table may be needed to pull in additional information from the product table with queries.  We do need to maintain
    the sales reporting information indefinitely.
I welcome any suggestions, best practice or resources (books, web, etc).
    Many thanks!

I assume you want to migrate to SQL Server.
Your best course of action is to hire a professional database designer for a short period like a month.
Once you have the database, you need to hire a professional DBA to move your current data from Access & Excel into the new SQL Server database.
Finally you have to hire an SSRS professional to design reports for your company.
It is also beneficial if the above professionals train your staff while building the new RDBMS.
Certain senior SQL Server professionals may be able to do all 3 functions in one person: db design, database administration/ETL & business intelligence development (reports).

  • Nokia : Why are you alienating your N8 customers?

What fuels this 'where is Anna' fire is the devices you launched with it. It is another slap in the face truth be told. There are so many people out there with issues, problems and in desperate need for this update yet Nokia ignores them and start selling new products with this so called operating system. I for one am done with Nokia. I am using the N8 less and less nowadays and in the rare event that I do go out, I take it for the camera and not for what it can do. Let's be honest, the N8 can do many things but at a mediocre level. This is so 2005 and Nokia seems to not care that they are alienating their faithful customers.
Bottom line my dear Nokia, you've managed to convince me to buy something else in the near future. I've used Nokia phones since the banana phone came out but I guess all good things must come to an end.

    Actually I was thinking of
"In September 1986 Unisys was formed through the merger of the mainframe corporations Sperry and Burroughs, with Burroughs buying Sperry for $4.8 billion. The merger was the largest in the computer industry at the time and made Unisys the second largest computer company with annual revenue of $10.5 billion. At the time of the merger, Unisys had approximately 120,000 employees.
In 2007, after 3 years of massive losses and consecutive losing quarters, Unisys spun off one their service divisions to remain in business. The retirement of Larry Weinbach leaves the company in a chain of losing quarters. Its Blue Bell Headquarters is auctioned  to help prop up cash flow. Other cost cutting measures include employees' mileage reimbursements limited and wages frozen.
On November 11, 2008, the company was removed from the Standard & Poor's 500 index as the market capitalization of the company had fallen below the S&P 500 minimum of $4 billion.
Late 2008, the company has been in a continuous period of cost-shedding, including benefits cuts and a number of layoffs. The workforce is now down to under 26,000 from a peak of 120,000, a loss of more than 78%.
2010: Unisys has been reinventing itself since mainframe makers Sperry and Burroughs were mashed up in 1986. Sells off its health information management business for capital preservation.
    2010 employees - 22,900"
    or GEC
"At the company's peak in the early 1980s, there were about 1,600 employees, mainly based in the original Elliott building at Borehamwood UK, and at 3 new purpose built factory units in Woodside Estate in Dunstable UK. There were a number of small offices in many other countries too.
By the 1990s, the real-time process control market was moving to cheaper microprocessor based systems, and GEC 4000 series sales into that market dried up. X.25 networks were being replaced by Internet networks, and so X.25 packet switch sales dried up. This left just the Videotex sales to other countries, and so the company concentrated on this product. However, there was only a window of a few years before the World Wide Web displaced Videotex systems, and the last of the company's main products also dried up.
and then there was DEC .... and Compaq .... oh, and have I mentioned ICL!?
By contrast, IBM has faired pretty well, compared to most - at least the ones above.

  • Poor business practices and customer services

Best Buy, that's a LIE!  Shoppers beware!  I purchased a Sony theatre system from Best Buy, store #251 at 8290 W. Bell Rd, Glendale, Arizona, which was on sale for $249 ($10 less expensive than Walmart), 12-days prior to my wife's birthday.  I gave it to her on her birthday and attempted to return it within the 14-days of actually giving it to her, but past the 14 days from original purchase.  I brought the item back to the same store and Best Buy told me they won't accept the return and for me to just keep it, they will not accept a return.  It was in perfect working condition, but for some reason they said even if it wasn't working I had to give it to their 'Geek Squad' to repair it.  Even If it wasn't working I would've wanted a new replacement under 1-year warranty.  This was something very strange I never heard of before from any retailer.  It was working fine, so this wasn't an issue, but I was puzzled to hear them say something about their replacement policy.  Wow, watch out when you buy a product, you never know if it's new, used or repaired!   I also contacted customers service by telephone on several occassions and they regurgitated their written policy of no returns past 14-days.  I explained that I am a totally disabled veteran with limited income, plus my wife has been battling cancer that spread to her lungs and that she has been undergoing chemotherapy, plus she was hospitalized three days the week prior and two days the next week and several additional times since, due to the chemo treatments.   I explained to them I believe they should be flexible and compassionate, use good will and good faith to accept our return because of these circumstances beyond our control.  I asked them, what is someone to do when they purchase an item, that's on sale, in advance of someone's birthday, Christmas, anniversary, wedding, etc., and it's past the 14-day return policy and they try to return it. I received no answer.  After requesting to speak with a supervisor and explaining all this information and requesting they allow us to return the item, Best Buy stopped all communication with us!  We haven't heard a word from them and we are now left with the Sony system we cannot use.  They show total disregard for both my wife's and me and totally lack of customer service and appreciation in the entire matter.  They seem to be only concerned with the bottom line, greed and Money!  I'm totally disgusted with their policies and business practices.  They don't care about the customer, only the bottom line, lining their pockets with our hard earned money!  I may have saved $10 at Best Buys price of $249 versus Walmarts price of $259, but it cost us $270 for a product that is useless to us, just becuse they will not allow us to return the item. cheaper doesn't mean BEST BUY!   I never had a problems returning any items to Walmart!!!

    Hello Ken1,
I was very disheartened to read of your wife's condition and I my best wishes go out to her. I also wish to thank you for your service and sacrifice for our country. I was further dismayed to read that your intended gift of the home theater system didn't meet your needs and that you weren't able to return it as expected. Certainly causing you aggravation was never our goal.
As published on your original receipt, our website, and posted in your local Best Buy store, our Return & Exchange Promise allows for a return or exchange of a product within 15 days of purchase (30 days for My Best Buy Elite members and 45 days for Elite Plus members). Outside of this time frame, we are unable to offer a return or exchange.
I'm grateful that you took the time to write to us and for your feed back on our Return & Exchange Promise.

  • Verizon's Poor Business Practices

    Remove
This is the beginning of a media blast and campaign to inform the public of how shabbily Verizon has deliberately treated one of their customers.  My daughter had service with them, and Verizon allowed a third party to order a phone on her account, and have it shipped to a non-account address.  (Yes there has been a conversation with her about making passwords harder to figure out).  In the process of straightening this out, Verizon insisted that her contract termination date remain the date that was the date of the illegally added phone and they refused to change back to the original date.  At the same time, she moved back in with us, and it was discovered that Verizon could not provide her with service in our area.  After a great deal of back and forth with Verizon, in particular their representatives Tiffany # <Deleted>, Keith # <Deleted>, & a woman whose name I failed to write down but said her ID# is <Employee information removed per the TOS.>, Verizon is now demanding that the cell phone itself be returned to them, but they will not issue a refund??  They are going to refurbish the phone, sell it to someone else, or hand it out under warranty, and our daughter has to pay for that? In addition, in spite of the assurances by Keith that there would be no charge for early termination, Verizon has tacked a charge onto the account, and has started calling my daughter's aunt about the charge, in spite of the fact that they have been told/authorized to contact me regarding the account.  In addition, each of the aforementioned reps has promised that a supervisor would call me, (there is never one available, these people must work unsupervised), and of course this has never happened.
I welcome contact from anyone else with a similar situation, either past or present in order to investigate legal action against Verizon.

That is because the people editing the comments don't necessarily know anything about Verizon services, plans or business practices. They are simply forum moderators, not CS reps. Not everyone is capable, proficient or qualified in performing all tasks, or even allowed to do so.
For example, when you go to the emergency room at your local hospital and someone is emptying the garbage while you are waiting to be seen, you could just as easily say "nice of them to have time to empty the garbage but don't have time to see me" when in fact the person emptying the garbage does not have a job which includes "seeing" patients. You most likely would not even like the outcome if THAT person was the one to diagnose your condition.

  • Price Adjustment on Order Denied / Unfair Business Practice

I was just notified that I was denied a price adjustment on my order for the Ecobee3 Wireless Thermostat. I had purchased it for 206.99 and a few hours later the price went down to 179.99 which is $27 lower than the price I had bought it for. I was told that the reason for the denial in the price adjustment was because I used a 10% off mover's coupon on my initial order.
If the item was delivered in time, I could have returned the item and re-purchased it with my wife's 10% mover's coupon. It makes no sense that I would have to go through the hassle of doing this instead of having a price adjustment.
Now I see the item is out of stock at my local store and online and I can't even do the return and re-purchase at $157 ($180 less $18 coupon less $5 reward card) due the price not showing in the local BestBuy system.
This definitely seems like a shady business practice. All other major online retailers (Target, Staples, Amazon) would have adjusted the base price of my order and I would have been credited the $24 without a hassle.
Please tell me how I can escalate this issue as I feel mistreated as a loyal BestBuy customer. My order number is {removed per forum guidelines}.

    Hello LightC,
Best Buy's Price Match Guarantee and movers coupon are great ways to ensure that you get the best price on products that you'll need to settle in your new dwelling. You ask a great question!
As poprex911 mentioned, the two offers cannot be combined as coupons may not be used with a price match. Per our  Price Match Guarantee:
Our Price Match Guarantee does not cover: Any financing offers, bundle offers, free items, pricing errors, mail-in offers, coupon offers...
I regret that I do not have better news for you, but I hope this helps. Thank you for writing to us.

  • HP READ: YOUR PRODUCTS ARE FAULTY & YOUR TECH SUPPORT IS A JOKE!

1 Year ago I bought an HP DV6 Intel Core 2 Duo Laptop for roughly $1000. The Unit immediately started having problems! I bought the laptop from CostCo. They literally waited until the day after the 90-Day Return Policy expired to call me back after I called them days earlier! I bought my HP for Video Editing and Rendering, the Unit would heat up to 194F when doing normal tasks like web-Browsing, and would get up to 212F when trying to render video! Me and my Farther who used to work for HP for R & D have spent hours on the phone, getting the run-around from CostCo to HP, Back to Costco, and then to Costco's 3rd Party tech support who don't care and do not have any power to do anything! The Power supply is underrated for the Laptop, not being able to give the Laptop even half of the power to properly run and charge the laptop. Over 2 months the CPU was trying to compensate for the Extreme Lack of Power, and burned up most of the internal components. Because of this, the Laptop CANNOT BE REPAIRED, NOR CAN IT BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE NEWER UNITS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AND ARE MORE EXSPENSIVE. This puts me in a Twilight-Zone esc Grey-Area where my 2 Year Limited Hardware Manufactures Defect warranty will not cover a refund. It's get's better, I HAVE BEEN TOLD OVER THE PHONE AND BY HP REPS I HAVE A "LEMON" WHICH I HAVE BEEN TOLD MEANS THE LAPTOP WAS DEFECTIVE BEFORE IT LEFT THE FACTORY IN CHINA. AND STILL I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET ANY MONEY BACK FOR MY $1000 PAPER WHEIGHT THAT IS ALSO A FIRE-HAZARD! MY BATTERY IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, MY POWER SUPPLY HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND BOTH HAVE BURNT-OUT AT HIGH TEMPS, AND I CANNOT EVEN CHARGE THE LAPTOP BECAUSE THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR A 3RD POWER SUPPLY WHICH THEY HAVE TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE IS DEFECTIVE! I HAVE EXCHASTED ALL OTHER OPTIONS! MY LAST DITCH ATTEMPT IS TO GET IN CONTACT WITH Michael Finny, a Consumer Watch Dog for 7 on Your Side, ABC Channel 7 San Francisco. Hopefully he will be able to expose HP and their Products to be Faulty, Unreliable, and the Horrid Truth behind HP's business Practices!

"The California lemon law, like any other state's lemon law, protects you if you purchase a vehicle that does not work properly, even after several repair attempts. These vehicles (and other products that don't work as they should) are called lemons."
I do not know if this applies to Vehicles only. Although "other  products" might be where I have legal ground. Anyone here know a good place to start in terms of filing a claim in CA?
EDIT: I do not wish to hire an Attorney.

TIERED DATA AS A CHOICE FOR NETWORK OPTIMIZATION-what a jokethe only thing that optimizes is their bank account.very flawed theory,if every one is connected trying youse their monthly dats allotments the way the network is currently designed performance decreases as more and more users connect until the network is useles as itcis in some of the bigger cities where they are scurrying to activate AWS to eleviate the stress on on the 700mhz frequency currently being used.
    Solution:
Tiered speeds like a normal isp uses.there is only so much spectrum available.create speed tiers so nobody's device is conflicting with anyone else's.
Hypothetical situation as I don't know the real numbers but network engineers do and could convert to working numbers:
Tower capability:60mbps down/20mbps up unsaturated saturation begins at 1000 connections.once saturation begins performance decreases.
To prevent saturation the following speed tiers could be created and data caps comparable to dsl/cable:
    Dedicated internet devices(tablet,usb modem,mifi,etc)
    20mbps down/5mbps up $120/month
    10mbps down/2mbps up $60/month
    5mbps down/1mbps up $30/month
150gb cap with coverages billed at $10/20gb
Smartphones-i spent a fair amount of time at a friend's house and there was virtually nothin that I couldn't do on his 6mbps dsl connection so in my opinion here are smartphone pricing options:
Bring back the nation wide plans same pricing as it was fair(except for add a line pricing below),not every one needs unlimited talk/text
Data pricing would be the same with each additional line added at 50% with the highest speed choice at full price.data usage is shared between all users and usage cap is increased by 20% per line on family plan
Nation wide talk n text 700 minutes unlimited messaging-$80/month
    Smartphone 1-20mbps choice-$120(150gb of usage)
    Line 2-10mbps choice-$30(increases usage to 180gb)
    Line 3-5mbps choice-$15(increases usage to 210gb)
    Line 4-20mbps choice-$60(increases usage to 240gb)
    Up to 10 lines
This is just an example of what could have been.if tiered speeds have worked all these years for land isp services why won't they for mobile isp services.the cellular network recognizes our devices buy the mobile number and can be programmed to restrict speeds accordingly.this is the fairest solution for both sides

  • If you take it out of the shop ..you are on your own buddy

sorry if this is posted in the wrong place..?
I am about to buy my first ever Apple Mac ( iMac ) when the current freezing / screen problems have been resolved
as a total newbie to the world of Mac's , I would like to walk into the Apple Store, and buy the machine
at the same time get the shop to set up the machine I am buying so it can be checked out .
The reason I am concerned about checking the new iMac out in the store is that
its a well known fact that '' customer services '' is not regarded highly here in Thailand
and I see many instances where the customer has been totally let down by so called
warranties and guarantees , from the smallest retailer to major Thai based International
companies . There’s numerous forums here in Thailand that show the vast number of
complaints , some related to Apple Suppliers, the norm here in Thailand seems to be if you take it
out of the shop , you are on your own buddy. I am not saying all Thai Apple suppliers are
Letting down their customers, but the complaints show many are.
So my main concern is that knowing when I do buy my new iMac , once I leave the
apple Store , and may be have a problem , the chances of the apple Store being willing to offer what’s only
considered by others as a normal response of yes sir just bring it in so we can look and help put any
problems right , may well be missing here in Thailand . One problem here is that when you are
purchasing any thing from a computer to a car the Thai way of selling has only one route .. Just tell the customer
what he wants to hear and forget about the actual facts, So when I ask the Apple sales person .. any problems I can
bring it back ... ? Yes Sir you can , but the reality is more like .. ive got a problem with my new iMac.. can you
help ..? Not sure sir I have to see my boss leave it here and I will call you, this is normally followed by a long
    Period of silence...
I was in the Apple shop yesterday ( the sales assistant did not really seem know too much about the Products) as when I asked how much an Apple Modem was , his reply was we don't sell them as all Macs come with an internal modem ..?, but they did have the new iMac on display , 20 & 24 inch , and If I wanted he would get one from the stock room and set it up in the show room so I could see / inspect / try it out. so as you can see it will be very important to me to set up the new machine to inspect / try it out as much as possible , before taking it home..
So here’s my newbie question... As I really want to try out the iMac in the store before I take it home what things would I need to look for / try out
( may be relating to the current iMac problems ) and any general Mac related things to try / check out ..? as a total Mac newbie a simple step by step
idea would be most appreciated , along with any comments or advice you can offer this Newbie .
    Thanks

\- Check for freeze-ups -- I'll defer to others for advice on how.
\- Check for pixel defects -- examine the screen carefully with both solid white and solid black backgrounds. An in-store, pre-purchase inspection is your ONLY protection against getting stuck with bad pixels.
\- Check for acceptable color and brightness uniformity. Examine the overall appearance of the screen with solid white, gray, and aqua-blue backgrounds.
\* Many (most? all?) 20" iMacs have top-to-bottom color and brightness gradients with "washed-out" colors near the bottom edge of the screen.
\* Many (most? all?) 24" ALU iMacs have left-to right brightness gradients and/or a yellow tint in the center/right of the screen.
Here are some photos that should help you recognize brightness/color gradients:

  • Use coherence in Business Intelligence area

    Hello, Everyone,
I am just wondering that is it possible to use coherence in business intelligence area? Does anyone has such experience?
As we know, building BI application is quite different from the online trading applications.
If we try to use database to fulfill a BI application, every SQL statement would process tons of data .
Maybe we should wait hours or days for one result sometime.
Therefore, I am thinking of the coherence. How could this platform help us? If we seperate data on different grid nodes and process on different nodes, that would be faster than pure database environment.
However, there are two significant problems that I could not avoid.
First, how to seperate data? if it beame a very complicated work, I think database would be better. At least, database provides one node partition mechanisms.
Second, how about the performance of QueryMap? Unfortunately, I did some test on QueryMap, the performance of QueryMap is quite worse than Oracle database.
    Please give me some suggestions.
    Best regards
    Copper shen

    Hi Moshin,
You have to learn SAP BW 3.5 along with ABAP and BI 7.0. Because BW 3.5 is the earlier version of BI 7.0.
BO is widely used for Reporting which can work on any database.
It's better to join in SAP Authorized Institutes like the following. It may be expensive.
    1. Siemens
    2. Yash
    Etc..........
