Oh - I can't tell what my cpu is running after the SDRAM freq change but before its always running at around 1.15 (Im pretty sure)????
    Athlon XP 1800+
    MSI KT6 Delta

  • CMOS Checksum Error on MSI 785GM-E51

Hi, I have 2 years old MSI 785GM-E51. Approximately 2 - 3 months ago, my PC just go hang without any reasons, even the mouse / keyboard won't respond to anything.
After I reset, sometimes it's fine, but sometimes it's hang again, the interval is random. Sometimes it even hang when in the POST or when i enter BIOS setting.
After several restart, it's sometimes gives me CMOS Checksum Error, so I decided to reset the CMOS using jumper method. After that my PC just works normal.
Until a week ago, my pc start to hang randomly again, the symptom is similar but this time sometimes it's not hang, but the PC just restart immediately with black / white / blue random pattern
displayed momentarily on the screen. And it always display CMOS Checksum Error. I already tried reinstalling Windows, and updating BIOS via flash disk from Live Update 5, no use.
I already tried to plug out my VGA and using the onboard one, still crash / hang randomly. I also test Memtest overnight with passing 11 pass without error.
Is it my motherboard already dead? or it's my PSU? CPU?
    Here is my complete specs:
    AMD Phenom II X4 955BE
    MSI 785GM-E51
DDR3 Dual Channel 4GB RAM (corsair, forgot the model)
    Radeon 5770
    WDC 1TB
    WDC 1.5TB
    Amacrox Free Style 650W
    Thanks in advance.

Yesterday i desperate enough and change some BIOS settings, and
surprisingly, the CPU is much cooler!
Try entering bios, hitting f6 for optimized defaults then save and exit. See if problem persists.

As far as I remember, no, the crash / hang time i remembered is when POST / boot / startup / browsing / install app / playing games / copy file.
And one more thing, when it hangs, it really hangs, not just the windows, sometimes it even not respond to reset button, so i have to power it off. But sometimes it respond
to reset button, but with quite a long delay, it could half a minute i think.
Have you tried re-seating the cpu, memory and all of the power connectors etc?
What are the amp ratings on the 12v rail of the PSU? I found this on thier website but dont have time to dig furthur: Quote
    4-Channel 12V Rails Design
Although the VGA you list only needs 24a on a 12v rail.

what's cpuid / ram timings / spd? where i can look at it?
    http://www.cpuid.com/
When the program opens, take a screen shot of the tab that describe how your ram is running, It will show the current timings, speed, single or dual channel. Also take a ss of the spd tab, which will show the jdec standards that apply to that ram and the xmp profile. Then post the SS's to imageshack or the link and link them.

    The battery may be ok?
Have you gone into the bios and loaded 'optimised defaults',save and exited?
If not,do so and see if that stops the checkssum error.
Yeah I have done that, and it doesnt help.
Was going to get the battery from the PC store anyways. I wasn't going to get MSI to send me one just wanted to know how u contacted them about these things.

  • Cmos checksum error

Getting cmos checksum error - defaults loaded press f1 to continue. Pc boots into windows and seems to work OK. Don't seem to be able to get rid of this message though at startuop. Any ideas, it's anew board, the bios hasn't been updated the bioard is untouched?
    Thanks............ Please help!!

Done all you mentioned, did select load defaults, save and exit thinking that would stop the checksum message but still it's ther. I just noted that if I keep the PC plugged in to the mains however the meesage does NOT appear on reboot. However if I unplug and they plug back in to the mains and switch on the message returns, could that point to faulty Lithium battery?

  • RE: : "AEC-6880 BIOS not install" error - fixed for me.

To anyone receiving the POST error : "AEC-6880 BIOS not install" on a 645Max2, my problem was a dead Maxtor Plus9 disk.
Both disks in the mirror array were brand new 80GB parts, within three days i was getting the BIOS not installed error instead of the Acard utility telling me one of the disks was bad.  Pretty major ehh?!!
I removed the dead disk and managed rescue the data from the working disk, so don't reformat them before you've checked that both disks are good!
Hope someone out there finds that useful.

I tried to authorize my Computer and eBookreader with a new Adobe-ID, but it says I've done used this ID too often, even though it was brandnew! Can't copy my just-purchased eBook because "Copying is not allowed".

  • MSI NF980-G65 mainboard won't read ATA devices? & checksum bad error?

I have an NF980-G65, model# MS-7612.  it has worked great for a couple years and now it won't read any ATA drives?  It also gives a checksum bad error.  It isn't that old and I have a ton of memory on it which I would like to use, but it just won't read the ATA drives.  Sometimes I can get it to read them in the bios, but it will never let me get past installing the operating system, (Windows 7 pro)  Most of the time it just doesn't see them, (hard drive, DVD,CD or any ATA drive)
Does anyone know anything about this? or does it sound familiar?  I have always built my own PC and the mainboards have always lasted longer.   I'm hoping it's something I can fix.  The rest of the board seems to be fine?
It is an AMD quad board with 10gigs of memory and windows 7.  I have also run XP, but it also will not see the ATA drives?
    Thanks!

That message suddenly arrive when you turn ON PC? (You haven't tryed to flash BIOS or something? )
Remove power cord from the PSU then leave one memory stick only in 1st DIMM near to CPU socket and do Clear CMOS
    Retry to boot.

  • Bad Error Message Protection

    Hi,
The Security team has requested that they look over our router and switch configs before we deploy them in production.
    One thing they mentioned:
    "Bad Error Message Protection"
They recommend "setting icmp ignore bogus error responses to 1". I haven't found any Cisco docs on the subject or any commands to enable this. That being said, I haven't tried to configure any bad error message commands because if this is a real concern I want to make sure I am doing it correctly.
    Any advice?
    Thank you.

ok - it seems problem has been fixed - I was on messenger 3.3 - I downloaded messenger 3.4 and everything seems to work as it should

  • W500 not starting - HELP - unable to locate BIOS ROM; Fatal error during GPU init

    hi gurus,
    Following problem:
when i start W500 (ubuntu) it stays with the black screen, not even displaying initial ThinkPad message, where you might press the ThinkVantage blue button, to go to BIOS. It just stays black and does nothing.
Than I press Power button for a few seconds to shut it down and try again. Still black screen.
The same procedure again and again and sometimes  W500 boots up, sometimes wants to go to recovery mode, sometimes not.
Sometimes, after the black screen it displays the message:
    Invalid ROM contents
ERROR Unable to locate BIOS ROM
    Fatal error during GPU init
    Anyone had the same problems?
What are the possible checks i might execute, to check up W500?
    cheers

Update: I have now tried compiling vbios.bin and int10.bin directly into the kernel. No success.

    hey Almas87,
is your unit's bios at version : 1.09/1.11 ? If it isn't do update.
Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Hot Key software.

  • BIOS HD-8 error

I am getting a BIOS HD-8 error but when i startup in safe mode the diaganostics say the HD passed. It says the problem is no OS present. So many fixes require me to be able to use the computer itself but it freezes at windows desktop.
Right now i am going to backup files in recovery (I tried using CD's but I
    guess I need DVD's.
Any way to recover an OS? besides resetting to factory settings?

No. You can only backup your stuff and then wipe out everything and start over with the software build that HP originally set up.
Here is what I would do...
    Unplug power from the computer.
    Open the case.
Physically remove connectors from the back of the drive (power and data - be sure to squeeze sata data cable when pulling out)
    plug in power
    turn on computer
    wait for error
    turn off computer
    reconnect hard drive cables
    Turn computer on
If the BIOHD-8 error still happens, I would call HP Support (if still in warranty) as HP will likely send you a replacement drive. BIOHD indicate SMART error and your drive is very likely on its way to failing. Your test might have passed, but try running a more comprehensive test or at least be very careful to back up your files on a more regular basis. BIOHDs don't appear for no reason at all.

  • Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0 / BIOS ROM Checksum Error

I tried to flash the BIOS through windows and got a checksum error, then made the mistake of rebooting the computer.  Now I get the Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0 / BIOS ROM Checksum Error.  It asks me to insert a floppy with the BIOS, which I have done based on the directions I've found in this forum.  The following is on the disk:
    autoexec.bat, which contains the command AWFL859G.EXE W7030NMS.180 /py /sy /cc /cp /cd /sb /r
    AWFL859G.EXE, the bios install program
W7030NMS.180, the latest bios version for this motherboard (K8N Neo Platinum)
When I boot up it detects the floppy drive, starts to run it, and then the entire machine shuts down.  I've disconnected all the drives except for the floppy, but no dice.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and thanks!

    See .. :
    What options do I have
Do you know someone with a NF3 250GB mobo you can bring the PLCC bios chip over and hotflash it in that persons mobo .
I hotflashed my Neo1 chip in a Abit Nforce2 NF7-S motherboard , criteria is that you must have a motherboard running award 6 bios and 4Mbit chip
and use that motherboards flasher .
So my hotflash in NF2 mobo had to be done with NF2 chipset flasher (awfl820) and /f switch .
I ended up giving up and buying a new board, the MS-7032 K8T-Neo V.  I swapped it out and no issues, and it was cheaper than sending back the one I had to get it reflashed.  Still, there ought to be a better way to get something like this fixed.  I read that some board manufacturers are now putting a backup bios chip that can't get overwritten on their boards, so if the working one gets lost it automatically gets re-flashed by the original one.  Hope MSI does that soon.
