QOS on Cisco 1841 between MS TMG and managed Cisco 1841?

Replicating our VM data from our Site A to a Hosted Provider (Site B) for DR purposes.
Crude annotaion of our network:
VIRTUAL HOSTS-----NORTEL L3 SWITCH-----MS TMG 2010 EDGE FIREWALL-----ISP MANAGED CISCO 1841-------------------CLOUD---------------SITE B
At times the replication traffic is hogging the connection and causing degraded performance for VPN clients amongst other things.
TMG 2010 doesn't support QOS and we cannot make any changes to the ISP managed Cisco router, nor can we request changes to be made.
My plan was to get a hold of a small switch that supported QOS and place this between the MS TMG and the managed router but we actually have another Cisco 1841 sitting doing nothing, would I be able to use the spare 1841 for this purpose?
Many thanks
Steve

10 Mbps is around the limits of an 1841.  It might or might not have enough capacity.  You could try using it and monitor its CPU when it's dealing with saturated 10 Mbps.
You can police or shape before the 10 Mbps bottleneck.  That will insure you can guarantee bandwidth for the non-replication traffic.
You can only police after the 10 Mbps bottleneck.  If the replication traffic is TCP based, dropped packets should slow the sender, but the sender can often still burst saturate the link before it detects the drops and slows.  If you set a very low bandwidth allowance for the replication traffic, you can often keep it from burst saturating the link.  The other issue with policing, it cannot dynamically allow bandwidth utilization (i.e. prioritization) as you can do with a shaper.
If most of the replication traffic bandwidth consumption is one way, insert the 1841 anywhere upstream (where all traffic will pass through it) of the 10 Mbps bottleneck, and shape or police.  I would recommend shaping with a very low bandwidth allowance for replication (e.g. 1%).  This will allow replication traffic to use all 10 Mbps, but any other traffic will get priority.
If the replication traffic bandwidth consumption is two way, you'll really want a 2nd device, on the other side of the bottle neck.
PS:
BTW, in lieu of shaping, having your upstream (of bottleneck) also with a physical 10 Mbps interface works even better.  Again, de-prioritize the replication traffic.
e.g.
class-map replication
match
policy-map phy-10m
class replication
bandwidth percent 1
(optionally random-detect)
class class-default
fair-queue
int 10m
service-policy output replication

  • Difference Between Legal Consolidation and Management Consolidation

    Dear Experts,
    Kindly help me to know
    1) To Differenciate between Legal Consolidation and Management Consolidation Theoritically?
    2) To Differenciate between Legal Consolidation and Management Consolidation Technically in BPC?
    3) What is impact on /Difference on Business Process Flow in BPC in case of Legal Consolidation or Management Consolidation? (What should be done in Management COnsolidation and Legal COnsolidation in BPF in BPC)
    Thanks in Advance
    Ritesh

True accounting/legal consolidations encompasses the three following elements:
    1.  the general ledgers of the entities
    2. elimination entries between entities (inter entity transactions such as sales/cost of sales, a/r and a/p etc.)
    3. adjustments for partially owned entities
Using the legal app, rate and ownership apps, and the proper configuration, outlooksoft achieves a legal/accounting  consolidation.  Accounting consolidations also link to a legal hierarchy of entities.
Any consolidation that is referred to as management or financial consolidation etc. can have differing connotations.   In Outooksoft  software,  management consolidations does not include item 3.
However, when the terms are used by the client they can have different meanings.  They could mean either :
A true legal consolidation BUT tied to the  Management hierarchy of entities (as  opposed to a legal hierarchy) OR An aggregation without item 3 above and tied to the Management hierarchy of entities.
9 times out of 10, clients usually want the first  rather than the second alternative.  Financial statements
rolled up using legal consol should equal that using management consol.
However, when clients do planning, they may have their entities plan as if they were fully owned. They could also have their entities provide actals for less than 100% in the case of partially owned entities.   In these cases, you have to adjust appropriately.
From an Outlooksoft config point of view, you need the legal, rate and ownership app and the related configuration for a legal consolidation.  Management consol depends on client definition and client practice in the data that they collect from the entities.
In the area of BPFs, the key difference between legal and management COULD be the steps (1-3) and the maintenance of the different hierarchies and ownership values.
    Hope the above helps.

  • Communication protocol between Admin Server and Managed Server

Hello - I am hoping someone can help me here to understand the communication protocols used in my setup.
Here is my understanding of the protocol that are used between each component.
    End User <--->HTTPS<--->LoadBalancer Device<--->HTTPS<--->Web Server<---->HTTPS<--->WebLogic Server(Managed Server)<--->LDAP/JDBC<-->Data tier components
AdminServer<--->T3<--->Managed Server i.e. The communication protocol between Admin Server and Managed server is T3
The communication protocol between Managed Servers running in one cluster on two seperate machine is What?
    Thank you.

    Hello, interesting question.
In the documentation " [cluster multicast communication|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs90/cluster/features.html#1007001] " don't specify the used protocol to pack the information for example in a session replication.
Although in a session replication all objects must be serializable i don't think rmi protocol is used.
I hope some expert give us some light in this issue :-)

  • Gateway server and Management server in SCOM 2012

What are the main Different between Gateway server and Management server in SCOM 2012?
I have referred this , is there anything ?
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2008/02/19/10-reasons-to-use-a-gateway-server.aspx

    1) Management server can write data , gathered from agent, directly into operations manager database. Gateway server should forward data, collected from managed agent to management server.
    2) In a unturst environment for example workgroup or untrust domain, and you do not want to deploy a certificate to every monitored agent, you should deploy gateway server rather than managment server.

  • Cisco 2960x - auto qos voip cisco-phone on access ports

After configuring "auto qos voip cisco-phone" on a stack of 2960x switches, we later noticed that after a power cycle (config was saved first) it went missing when doing a "show run" from the interface configs, on one of the switches (g1/0/1-48 had it applied, then after power cycle it didn't show).  However, doing a "show auto qos interface" shows it is still applied to all interfaces g10/1-48.
I try to do "auto qos voip cisco-phone" again on g1/0/1-48, and it shows this:
    SwitchStack01(config-if-range)#auto qos voip cisco-phone
    AutoQoS Error: AutoQoS already configured
% Range command terminated because it failed on GigabitEthernet1/0/1
If I attempt to remove "auto qos voip cisco-phone", it shows this:
    SwitchStack01(config-if-range)#no auto qos voip cisco-phone
    AutoQoS Error: AutoQoS not configured
% Range command terminated because it failed on GigabitEthernet1/0/1
When I do a "show run", it is no longer displayed for the first switch of the stack. So is it still applied to the interfaces or not?   Is this a bug?  Has anyone else experienced this?  This has happened to at least a couple stacks of 2960x's we have.
    Thanks!

It appears to be a bug in the code.  Open a TAC ticket with Cisco and send them the output and the IOS version you are using so they can help you resolve the issue.   Most likely, they recommend an upgrade.

  • What are the differences between Easy VSS and Traditional VSS on Catalyst 4500E with Sup 8E ?

I would like to know which feature is different between Easy VSS and Traditional VSS.
I know "Easy VSS is a new way of implementing VSS by using a single command" but I cannot find more information about it.
    Please help.
    Thank you.
    Nash

Easy VSS is a simplified and automated way of configuring VSS for first time. Once a VSS is configured then it same as traditional VSS in functionality.
There is no concept of layer 2 or layer 3 VSL link. VSL is the internal portchannel link and you cannot configure as layer 2 or layer 3 portchannel.
Following is the link of Easy VSS steps.

  • Anchor mobility between WLC 5508 and Aruba/Clearpass

Hello. I have a question regarding the abiltiy to configure anchor mobility between a 5508 WLC and an Aruba controller. To date, my understanding is it has never been possible and I have never found any documentation that says it can be done.
Scenario: My organization and a partner organization co-own a hospital. We coexist on a large campus, with each org having a number of buildings that the owning org maintains the network presence in. We also maintain back-to-back firewalls between us and do not hand-off any direct layer 2 interfaces to each other. However, the two orgs do partner to provide each others business SSID's in each other's WiFi networks using anchor mobility. Our current solution utilizes an A/M tunnel between my org's 5508 controllers and the partner orgs 2504 controller and we explicitly permit the tunnel traffic between partner controllers for A/M to work. Last year, the partner org retired some old WiSM's and changed their wireless solution to Aruba and recently implemented Clearpass. In order to maintain A/M with us they left a 4404 operational, but due to the newer code we were running they were forced to purchase a 2504. So now they are only maintaining a limited footprint in their network with a few Cisco AP's and the rest of their coverage areas use Aruba AP's and they have indicated that they want to completely retire their Cisco WLC's. Because we host some of their SSID's on our controllers and can tunnel them to their 2504, they get all of their WiFi traffic coming from our network, however my org can only connect to our SSIDs on their campus in certain areas.
The solution I have been asked to provide is to find a way to continue providing some sort of anchor mobility services between our WLC's and their Aruba controllers. My org maintains that we do not want to simply hand them a layer 2 interface for security reasons, but they want our SSIDs to be available in all areas of the partner org's campus and vice versa. So far I have stalled the partner org's plans to retire their WLC's by telling them that retiring their WLC's will completely break WiFi between orgs, but they are adamant that some sort of A/M solution must be found.
Is there any way to do some sort of A/M between a WLC and Aruba controller and if so, is there any documentation showing configuration examples etc?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
I do not think it will work. Even if it get working somehow, it will be operation nightmare to troubleshoot & fix a issue since both vendor will say it is NOT supported solution.
What about if you ask them to advertise your SSID (assuming it is dot1x) on their APs as another SSID on their network, but pointing it to your RADIUS & DHCP for IP connectivity (you do not have layer 2 requiremnt for this & can do this as long as you have L3 communication between each other)

  • Interoperability issues between Nexus 5k and HP storageworks (8/20q)

    Hello community,
I am trying to get a VM host and a windows server to connect to their storage across a nexus and HP (Qlogic) fabric switch. This is currently having issues with the VM host unable to see the datastores, possibly due to interoperability between Cisco and HP (Qlogic)
I have configured and tested the connectivity using only the cisco nexus and this worked, I then tested it using only the HP fabric switch (HP 8/20q) and this also worked.
However, when using the HP and Cisco Nexus as shown in the attached diagram, things stop working.
The connection is using Native Fibre channel, On the Cisco side I performed the following steps
Configured the Nexus with Domain ID 10 and the HP with Domain ID 20.
Connected the 2 fabric switches on fc1/48 (Cisco) and port 0 (HP) and confirmed that the ISL came up (E_port 8G), I confirmed connectivity using fcping both ways.
I connected the SAN to the Nexus and the servers to the HP
    Configured VSAN 10
Added interfaces fc1/41 to 48 in VSAN 10
Created 2 zones ( ESXI and Windows)
Added the PWWN for the ESXI server and the MSA2040 to the ESXI zone
Added the PWWN for the Windows 2k8 server and MS2040 to the Windows zones
Created zoneset (Fabric-A) and added both the above zones in it
    Activated the FABRIC-A zoneset
The result is that the zones and zoneset are synchronised to the HP switch .I confirmed that I was able to see the servers and SAN WWN in the correct zones on the HP.
From the 8/20q switch I am able to fcping the SAN, Nexus and servers, however the Nexus is only able to fcping the SAN and the HP, it returns a “no response from destination”  when pinging the servers.
I have added the FCID for all the units in the same zones to see if it makes any difference to no avail the result seem to be the same. I have gone through various Nexus/MDS/HP/Qlogic user guides and forums; unfortunately I have not come across any that shows this specific topology.
source for HP user guide is here: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02256394
I’m attaching the nexus config and partial view of the “show interface brief” showing the fibre channel port status
Interface  Vsan   Admin  Admin   Status          SFP    Oper  Oper   Port
                      Mode   Trunk                          Mode  Speed  Channel
                             Mode                                 (Gbps)
    fc1/47     10     auto   on      up               swl    F       8    --
    fc1/48     10     auto   on      up               swl    E       8    --
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Hi all, after much reading, Walter Dey provided the hint to put me on the right track.
By default the Nexus 5k is in interop mode 1. However, one of the requirement for this to be "interoperable" with other vendor the FCDomain ID in the entire fabric needs to be between 97 and 127 as stated in the Cisco website.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/storage/san_switches/mds9000/interoperability/guide/ICG_test.html
Another issue that had me and my colleague scratching our heads, was that we were seeing high level of CRC errors on the ISL interfaces. This was caused by ARBFF settings mismatch between the Nexus and the HP. This was resolved by ensuring that the ARBFF setting on the HP was set to false and the command "switchport fill-pattern ARBFF speed 8000" is configured on the ISL interface linking the 2 switches. (note that Cisco's default setting for the ports is IDLE, until this is changed the link will not stabilise)
Thanks for all your help guys.

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a solution/howto configuration for setting up a SIP trunk between CUCM7.0 and a SIP-VoIP provider.

  • Create port channel between UCS-FI and MDS 9124 (F Mode)

    Dear Team,
We were trying to create  port channel between UCS FI and MDS 9124
But the port channel not getting active in F mode on MDS 9124
FI is in FC End Host Mode
We have enabled FC uplink trunking on FI
We have enabled NPIV on MDS
We have enabled trunk on MDS
FI and MDS in default VSAN
To check we changed the FI mode to FC Switching mode and port channels became active but in E mode
when we enabled FC uplink trunking on FI and FC Switching mode port channels became active in TE mode
but in both the above cases showflogi database shows WWPN of SAN alone not showing any from FI.
    How to achive this?
Have read that no need to change the swicthing mode to FC Switching mode and keep as FC Endhost mode
SO how to achieve Port channel with F mode in MDS and FI ( Mode showing as NProxy)
Does it has to do anything with MDS NX-OS version? (https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2179129)
If yes how to upgrade as license for ports came along with Device and we do not have any PAC/PAK or license file as it came
    with license
Also we have seen 2 files availabe for download (m9100-s2ek9-kickstart-mz.5.2.8b.bin and m9100-s2ek9-mz.5.2.8b.bin) which to use
    Thanks and Regards

On your UCS do connect nxos and show inteface brieft and look at the mac address.
it is possible that you might be hitting the bug below. if this is the case you might need to upgrade the firmware on your MDS.
    Add MAC OUI "002a6a", "8c604f", "00defb" for 5k/UCS-FI

  • 3850 - auto qos voip cisco-phone

I am having an issue where it appears that the "auto qos voip cisco-phone" command is marking down my voice packets COS and DSCP values to 0.  Anyone else notice this?  I am connecting Cisco 7945 phone to the interfaces with this command applied to the interface.  I verified that the IP Phone is sending COS = 5 and DSCP = ef to the switchport.  I verified the packets inbound to the switchport and the packets outbound as they transit to the destination IP Phone's switchport.

    Hi joshua,
What is the IOS-XE version you are running on your 3850 ?
Post your switchport configuration (7945 phone connected)
Here is 3.3 QoS config guide & I noticed it says something like below qouted. So make sure this trust device command is there & your port is configured for standard VoIP port connectivity.(like voice vlan, etc)

"The trust device device_type interface configuration command is only supported in an auto-QoS configuration, and not as a stand-alone command on the switch. When using the trust device device_type interface configuration command in an auto-QoS configuration, if the connected peer device is not a corresponding device (defined as a device matching your trust policy), both CoS and DSCP values are set to "0" and any input policy will not take effect"
