QT 7 CONSISTANTLY stutters!!

I had QT 6.53 and had great performance out of it, but Ive been getting a lot of video in the newer QT7 format, so it was time to move up. QT7 (w/ iTunes 6)installed perfectly, no hassles, but all I get whenever I try to watch movies is stuttering. My sound card is an Emu 1212M, and I have the latest and greatest drivers. Ive tried everything, the video just hangs and stutters, violently! I also have Real, Winamp, and WinMedia Player 10, all updated, but was wondering if having any of those on my system might have anything to do with it. Let me repeat, QT6.53 was working perfectly, and when i upgraded (removing QT6.53 as well) QT7 just stutters. HELP me! Im missing tons of video, I cant even watch the movie trailers!!!

Answering my own issue. Thanks to this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2169685#2169685
I got my solution, for anyone that has similar problems, try switching your audio to 24 bits, and 96 KHz. It works!

  • Audio stutters in playback

    Hello,
After my ibook has been on for a while I get intermittent but fairly consistent stuttering in all audio playback (regardless of app). I'm running 10.2.8 w/classic active but can't seem to narrow it down to a conflict w/any other app. It usually takes some time to occur but once it's there, only a restart will resolve it (until it starts happening again).
I recently switched out my 256mb chip for a 512, but if the ram were the culprit wouldn't it happen right away?
Thanks in advance for any ideas

Thanks for the response and ideas Klaus,
I tried what you suggested but, unfortunately, the problem persisted. I'm fairly certain it's not an issue of inherent speed of my machine or its architecture or the os or version of quicktime. The same machine w/same system, playing the exact same types of mp3 files, has been working without these stutters for a long time, and nothing has changed w/my audio apps or the os. Also, the stuttering occurs on all and any audio app, even ones that I believe don't use quicktime (VLC etc...). This problem started only recently.
My hunch is that it could be a bottleneck of some sort or RAM or cache not letting go of or not flushing unnecessary data, or maybe a conflict w/an another app (though almost none are running when the problem crops up and the ones that are have been in use for a year or so w/out these problems).
So if I take the machine/speed out of the troubleshooting, I'm left to wonder if it could be the new RAM I installed. But, again, the stuttering doesn't happen right away and sometimes takes a day or so of the machine being on to start happening. but once it does, it doesn't go away until a restart.
**If it were faulty RAM, would the problem show up right away?
**Or is it a corrupt preference file somewhere, but, again, wouldn't that cause the problem to show up right away, too?
    Thanks again

  • Graphic Stuttering, ATI & NEO2

    Hey Guys,
A friend of mine with a very similar specs, I have listed them below do not use my sig for reference, Is getting a very consistent stuttering in all games now.  Everything was alright a couple of weeks ago around 64,000 in Aqua and now 35,000.
Games stutter but everything else seems ok.  We did not update anything between now and then.  After the symptoms started I updated the video drivers, turned fast writes on and off, changed memory timings and toyed with the wait for vertical sync.
    His Specs:
    Socket 939 Athlon 64 3500+
    MSI NEO2 Platinum NForce 3, v1.3
    Gigabyte ATI x800 XT
Seagate 120 GB 8 MB Cache
    2 x 1 GB OCZ, PC3200, Cas Latency: 3-3-3-7
    ThermalTake 560 W0023, +3.3V@30A,+5V@40A,+12V@22A
Mine did the same thing when I was using a ATI 9700 PRO on my current rig.  I was never able to fix it, but reinstalling did get me back.  I would like to avoid that with my freind.

This will probably be no help because it sounds like you've been through the BIOS.
My old computer would stutter in all games unless the AGP Aperature was set to 128.
With this K8N Neo2 and 6800GT it seems fine at 256 or 512.
Also after the 1.4 BIOS flash it reset the Primary graphics card to PCI instead of remaining on AGP. Is PCI/VGA Palette Snoop disabled?
Its not an overheating issue I hope. The graphics slot and CPU are too damn close together on this board.
With on-line gaming and WinXP I've had IRQ conflict issues that caused game stuttering.
Maybe someone else will have better ideas.
    Later, Conrad

  • Hi, why is FCP X stuttering and beach balling after I installed 10.1 and 10.1.1? Not all and admittedly the heavy file sizes of which the project consists, but it wasn't doing this before hand. Also, WHERE is the "switch to proxy" button for playback?

    Thank all, BTW.

If you have a lot of files in one library, create a new library for the project you're working on.
The Proxy selection is now in Viewer Display options.

  • ITunes Stream Stuttering and Crackling Noises (Temporary Work Around Option

Note: If you don’t take the time from your busy schedule to address these suggestions being provided in this and future upcoming series, then by all mean continue with what you were doing before and continue to experience the frustrations and problems. The series is not meant to be a cure-all for the problems you are having. But the information will go a long way toward correcting and improving a lot of issues that you may be having with your system. Think About It !!!!!!!!!!
I listen to the radio a lot using the iTunes player as well as listen to music that I have transferred to the player. When a problem occurs it aggravates me to no end especially if it is occurring when I am try to relax to my music. At times I am also experiencing the stuttering and crackling issues in the 7.0 update that has been recently released. The following information can be useful in temporarily correcting this problem until Apple comes up with a patch to resolve this issue. If you choose to proceed with implementing this information then you assume any liability that may occur during your attempts at using and applying this information. This information has so far suited any needs that I may or am currently having to date personally.
1)Quick Time Preferences – In the Quick Time Preferences\Audio tab check to make sure that the settings are at the default level. Your platform may reflect a different khz Rate. On my platform my default level will be the following:
    Rate: 44.1 khz
    Size: 16 bit
    Channels: Stereo (L R)
When I listen to my music I like a good quality stereo sound so I have my audio sound routed from my laptop to my CD or Video jacks in the back of my stereo. Stereo System: Pioneer SX 251R Receiver. External Speakers: 2 - 8 ohm Yamaha.
Make sure the Safe Mode box is unchecked. Close the Quick Time player. Now, when you begin experiencing the stutter problem there are two immediate steps that you can try to correct the problem:
1)Stop the stream or the music that you are listening too and restart the service each time that the event occurs, (In my case the events that have been occurring has not been consistent when they do occur. Close monitoring in place on all connection ports. Running Snap In’s deployed: IPSec Monitor/MMC Console– Currently monitoring IKE and IPSec Statistics for any changes. To run this snap in properly the Event Monitor must be in the running state and actively logging events in the Administrative\Event Viewer Folder) I will also be configuring Dr Watson to generate a Stack and Dump file log to the desk top in the event of an unexpected occurrence. or,
2)If that does not correct the problem then try the following: Go to the My Computer folder and open it up. When you have done so, Right click the Local Disk and enter the Properties section. When the Local Disk Properties box comes up, enter the Tools tab, in the Error Checking section, place a check mark in the “Automatically Fix System Errors” and click start\yes. Back out of that and close all running programs including firewall in the tray next to your clock and reboot the system.
Once you have rebooted run the Disk Cleanup utility and the Disk Defragmenter utility. While we are using the Disk Defragmenter lets take an extra step to insure that we defragging the hard drive volumes as much as possible. Click on the analyze button a second time. If there are any entries in the box highlight the first entry and run the Defrag utility a second time.
Tip! If you would get in the habit of running defrag process regularly on a daily basis it will help improve the overall baseline performance of your machine.
Last Step: Open your player and try again.
If you are still experiencing the problem and it hasn’t leveled out to your satisfaction then there are two additional steps that I have personally used or am currently using that may help with your issues. The steps will involve installing a small batch file program and a hot fix patch.
User Profile Hive Cleanup Service– (Batch Program) Open your Browser and type in the following address: www.microsft.com once the page has loaded look for the search bar in the upper right hand corner of the page. In the search bar type in the following: “User Profile Hive Cleanup Service”. Once the search result page comes up click on the first result to bring up the proper download page. Before you can use this batch program you will be required to go through a short validation process before you can download the program. The validation process is to ensure that you are running a genuine windows platform.
    Overview
The User Profile Hive Cleanup service helps to ensure user sessions are completely terminated when a user logs off. System processes and applications occasionally maintain connections to registry keys in the user profile after a user logs off. In those cases the user session is prevented from completely ending. This can result in problems when using Roaming User Profiles in a server environment or when using locked profiles as implemented through the Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP.
On Windows 2000 you can benefit from this service if the application event log shows event id 1000 where the message text indicates that the profile is not unloading and that the error is "Access is denied". On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 either event ids 1517 and 1524 indicate the same profile unload problem.
To accomplish this the service monitors for logged off users that still have registry hives loaded. When that happens the service determines which application have handles opened to the hives and releases them. It logs the application name and what registry keys were left open. After this the system finishes unloading the profile.
Once you have downloaded and installed the batch file close all running programs and reboot. Now, ‘This is important”, lets determine if the batch file is properly running after installation. Go to Start\Help and Support. Once the Help and Support Center comes up click on the following link: “Use tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems” under the “Pick a task” section. Once the page has been loaded in the left hand pane click on the “Advanced System Information” link. Once that page has been loaded click on the following link: View detailed system information (Msinfo32.exe).
Once the System Information box is loaded look in the left pane and open the Software Environment Tree and click on the following link: Windows Error Reporting. If the batch program is properly running you should see the following entry: “User profile hive cleanup service version 1.6.30.0 started successfully
&#x00a”. The ending symbols may be different on your platform.
Now, we want to go to another location in your system to verify this entry and that this service is properly working again. Pull up your “Control Panel” and enter the “Administrative Tools” folder. Once there enter the “Event Viewer” folder. Then enter the “Application Folder”. If the service is properly working the following entry will be logged: User profile hive cleanup service version 1.6.30.0 started successfully, Event ID 1001. If for some reason this program is not functioning properly a different error code other then the Event Id 1001 will be generated and logged in this folder. Also if one is generated you will want to verify if it’s a genuine error. To do this you need to go back into the help and support center Advanced System Information link and click on the following link: “View the error log”. If anything goes wrong a corresponding general entry that was logged in the Event Viewer will be logged in this link verifying that a problem had occurred. All of the information in the logs will be useful in your trouble shooting efforts. To date I have not had any measurable conflicts to occur while using this batch program to date. Closing Overview: when this program engages it will target itself at the Kernel System only at shutdown and startup. A corresponding entry will be made in the folders that I have described above stating that the program had started or failed.
System Restore Feature and USB Device’s – Event Viewer\System and Application Folders\Event ID SR 1 (Hot Fix Patch) – I have noticed that some folks are loading and unloading iTunes in attempt to correct problems. Also, I see by the forum board that a lot of folks are having a lot of problems with their iPods. Think about this for a moment, iPods will have their own unique set of drivers to operate from. I am going to attempt to explain an experience that occurred with me last year on this issue. When working with USB Devices it is important to keep your eyes on the Event Viewer folders for the following event id being logged: Event ID SR 1. This is especially true if you are using your System Restore Feature. The main folders that you want to keep your eyes on are the “System\Application” folders.
I have not witnessed any specific Software Applications generating this code in general at this point in time. But when it comes to Software and USB Devices I have personally experienced a situation that did cause a SR 1 entry last year. Example: My wife has Sevier medical problems. When we travel I keep a USB Flash Drive on my key chain with her medical information installed in case of an emergence. The Medic Alert E-Health Key was a new device that came out that had bugs that needed resolved just as with iTunes 7.0. The short of the story is that the flash drive was conflicting with the System Restore Feature, which led to additional problems such as conflicts in the Add/Remove Utility. I could not properly unload the Uninstall .Dll files when trying to uninstall the flash drive itself using the Add/Remove Utility. During a conversation with a Microsoft Support tech I was informed that other unloading issues had also been identified in the Add/Remove Utility. I could be wrong but I think there is a patch available that would help with unloading issues while using the Add/Remove Utility. To keep an eye on any possible loading/unloading issues that I may have while using the Add/Remove Utility, I use the following program to determine if there any issue’s that I need to deal with: (30 Day Trial Program-Fully Functional)
    http://www.mikasalonen.com/remove/?remove40
Program Name: Remove 4.0. All of the information you need to know about this program will be summarized in the provided link. If anything: USE IT !!!!
NOTE: This SR 1 patch is only a temporary hot fix. They are suggesting that we wait until the next Windows XP service pack release that contains the hot fix.
    Article Id : 888402
    Last Review : June 01, 2006
    Revision : 1.5
Also keep this in mind. The only time that you want to become concerned about the SR 1 issue is when you notice an increase in the number of SR 1 entries in Event viewer logs. If you are logging two (2) or more events then I would begin investigating the problem. Again, In my case the System Restore Feature was identified as the initial cause of conflict when the conflict first occurred when loading the USB Flash Drivers. So, if you suddenly notice this entry in the Event Viewer then you can pretty much bet that you are experiencing a USB issue that is conflicting with the System Restore Feature. But there is a Hot Fix available to temporarily resolve this issue as I have stated. Go back to the Microsoft link that was provided. When the page loads, in the search bar in the upper right hand corner of the page type in the following KB 888402. Be Advised – if you have to resort to this measure you will have to contact the Microsoft Support Team directly by phone to receive this patch.
When you talk to the tech you will need to provide the following information: A brief description if the Event being generated in the Event Viewer as well as a brief description of the problem that you are having. Once the tech has verified the information he/she will e-mail the hot fix to you in a zip folder if I’m not mistaken.
    System and Third Party Drivers
Drivers can be another source of conflict that can have a direct impact on how your system operates. I have already given you an example of this in the System Restore/USB Devices section. They can also cause unexpected stability issues. In addition to that malicious Root Kits and Trojans can download drivers on your hard drive without your knowledge further complicating matters. So, before I close this information out let me show you how we can quickly gather and display a listing of all drivers that are currently installed on you hard drive by using a very simple program. (This program will be a 15-day Trial program).
    Program Name: My Drivers 3.11
With this program you will be able filter out all preinstalled drivers that came with the system at the time of purchase, thus exposing the remaining Third Party drivers and as well as the Unknowns. If you know what your doing I would take this time now and disable the drive(s) in question if removal procedures are deemed necessary once you have obtained the driver listing. My overall objective with this program is to immediately determine if there is anything out of the norm with the drivers overall.
A download link is unavailable at this time. The web site appears to be under construction at this time.
As a final step on this issue I suggest keeping an eye on the Device Manager for any sudden “Yellow Warning Symbols” appearing within the Device Manager Tree Structure.
Print this information off and us it as a reference point. Any new helpful hints that I can think of will be posted as soon as I can squeeze the time in.

  • "Stuttered" printing in middle of page on psc 2175 all in one

I have been very happy with my 2175 for several years.
Then today I have experienced all kinds of problems.
A lot of noises, best described as Grinding.  Also, the msg "Open door, clear carriage jam then press enter, -- following which I would get a msg to the effect of "Close cartridge Door, etc."
I have went through the procedures (several times) found on the website for trouble shooting the problems including doing the "cleaning procedures", (including cartridges and  paper rollers/wheels doing a through search for any paper jams etc . (none found),doing all the power off- power on -- cycling suggestions.
Right now, I have been able to print without strange noises, But I have "stuttered" printing in the middle of page of any printed document -- a MS Word Letter, or a printed webpage for example .  By "Stuttered" I mean a slight shift and reprint of characters.
The shift is much less than a standard character width on some documents consisting of only 2 or 3 characters.   By middle of page,  I mean the stuttering is confined to about 10 per cent of the page width - and right in the middle.  The Left and right  sides of the printed document appear fine.
Is it time for a new printer?  I hope not.
    Thanks,

  • Consistent, long-standing performance issues -- seeking advice

I have a performance problem with my system. It's a problem that's lasted me years, spanning 3 different computers. This leads me to believe it's not the hardware, but something about my system. As I've moved from computer to computer (as well as when I've reinstalled the system), I've taken pains to skip the Migration Assistant and move over preferences and Application Support one by one, in an attempt to isolate and remove the bug. This always appears to work for a while, then inevitably it goes back to it's same, unresponsive, jittery, occasionally slow self. I'm considering getting a new computer, and I want to try to isolate this problem before I go through the process again.
Here is a list of symptoms. Scroll to the end to read what I've tried to do to fix it.
    DISAPPEARING FINDER
Once in a while, when waking from sleep, the icons on the Finder disappear. The Finder is be usable, and I can create Finder windows, but the icons aren't there. Fixed by force-restarting the Finder.
    MESSY ICON
OIAW, when waking from sleep, the mouse arrow will be replaced with what appears to be random lines and static. Easily fixed by hovering over a text box and forcing a cursor change.
    SAFARI BEACHBALL
I know Safari can be slow as a matter of course, but sometimes mine just GRINDS. I have to either force-quit it or leave it for a while for it to catch it's breath. Some common triggers are Flash embeds (no surprise), big pages, or pages with big photos. Almost always, a page with a lot of photos (like Big Picture), will be impossible to scroll smoothly.
    GARBLED MENUBAR
Occasionally, I'll look up to the menu bar to find it a garbled mess. It appears as if the menus from more than one application are overlain on top of each other. The bar is still useable, and if I click on any menu, it redraws itself properly.
    MOBILE ME IS A ************
This is probably the biggest, most consistent, easiest to replicate problem. When Mobile Me is syncing, I might as well not even try to use the computer. It seems to gobble up all memory, making everything else practically useless. I have it set to sync automatically, but I'm pretty sure I've tried hourly and daily and the same problem occurs. (Also, FWIW, I think it's syncing a lot more than it needs to -- not a lot changes from sync to sync. But I'm not sure how to prove this.)
    SLOW DOCK
If it hasn't been in use for a while, the dock will take a second or two to show (it's positioned on the bottom, hidden).
    FONT CORRUPTION
This hasn't been happening much lately, but for a while, particular base system fonts would suddenly stop working. The files were still there, and active in FontBook, but they wouldn't work in applications. I would have to remove the file from the System/Library/Fonts folder, then the system would recreate it, and it would work again. This would sometimes happen out of the blue.
The one consistently corrupt program in this respect is Google Chrome. It's never been usable -- all characters within the window frame are the weird box with a serif A in the middle. (Strangely, the text in the chrome itself -- bookmark text, tab text, etc -- works fine.
    ITUNES STUTTER
Sometimes the computer is so consumed with whatever it's doing that iTunes will stutter.
    DOCK STUTTER BOUNCE
Often when opening an app, the dock icon doesn't bounce smoothly, but rather stutters up and down.
    TRANSPARENT MENUBAR
Sometimes the background of the menubar disappears. Weirdly, the shadow remains.
    SLOW DASHBOARD
Even after the Dashboard has been loaded for the first time, it can be grindingly slow. It usually zooms into place okay, but activating an module and using it can take 10-20 seconds.
    SLOW SCROLLING
Sometimes, very rarely, the whole computer will have a scrolling seizure -- scrolling a window will become VERY unresponsive, and very stuttery when it finally does respond. Happens to all apps, and quitting the app doesn't appear to fix it. Only restarting (or logging out and in).
    COVERFLOW
Like other things, can be jumpy.
    IN SUMMARY, **** IS SLOW
Basically, sometimes everything just slows. Even the simplest thing is impossible to do, like opening a menu, or finder window, or typing -- it'll stutter and spits out my letters in big chunks.
    *--- THINGS I'VE TRIED ---*
I've added more RAM. When I went from 2GB to 3GB, things appeared to be fast again. That lasted a few days. Later, I went from 3GB to 4GB, with no noticeable change.
I've cleared out my fonts. I deactivated all fonts in FontExplorer except for a couple dozen essentials.
I've verified all fonts in FontBook and removed the offending ones. I fixed any conflicts in FontExplorer.
I've cleared the cache any number of ways, including with Cocktail. Cocktail offers a variety of configurations for cache clearing, and I've tried a bunch of them.
After doing all the above for the first time, I actually thought I had cleared out whatever ugliness was invading my system. Things were opening snappily, and Flash movies were playing smoothly. That lasted a day, and things went back to normal. I've tried it again several times since, and while I've seen some mild improvement, it's been nothing like that one miraculous time.
    *--- WHAT NEXT? ---*
I've seen Apple Store Geniuses about this a few times. It's been very frustrating. What it usually comes down to is: reinstall your system. I did it the first time they suggested it, and the problem always came back. I'm not going to do it again, because it's a major hassle, and obviously doesn't fix the problem.
The other thing they say to do is look at Activity Monitor. I have done that, but I'm not totally clear what to with the information I see, other than to quit more apps to free more memory. Here's the thing: I'm seeing no discernible difference in free memory between a 3GB system and 4GB system. Same slowness, same sliver of free memory in the pie chart.
I've done a lot of looking around online, including in this forum, and the one thing I read consistently is that you want to avoid pageouts. I look at my Activity Monitor and see gigs and gigs of pageouts. What I can't find is tips on how to reduce them.
I've been living with this for a while, because it's just on the threshold of tolerable. It comes in waves, and the times of easygoing make it easy to forget the annoying times. But I'd like to fix it at its root. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it.
    *--- SCREENSHOTS ---*
    - The garbled menubar
    - An example of very active Activity Monitor with 3GB
    - And one with 4GB
    Thanks!

Erase the hard drive, install 10.6 from scratch, download and install the 10.6.3 vers. 1.1 Combo Updater, then allow Software Update to download and install any other additional software.
Do not yet reinstall any third-party software but take some time to test out everything, In this way you will be able to better now if some problems remain which may be indicative of hardware malfunction.
Since you say these problems have been long standings, I'm surprised you didn't downgrade to Leopard or take the computer in for repair. Letting problems go without solution tends to cause new problems and/or exacerbate existing ones.

  • Stuttering playback on editing monitor

Playback of movie being edited on the editing monitor is erratic and stuttery. I went to iMovie HD Preferences and selected both "Standard" and "Highest" playback modes to no avail. The stuttery playback continues.
However, when I click on "full screen playback", the stuttering ceases and playback smooths out.
I also encounter annoying delays in response to start and stop play commands in the editing process.
The movie, currently 46 minutes long, contains 100-110 stills but no slow motion scenes. Other than a half-dozen scrolling titles, all the rest is video.
Any ideas as to what's causing the stuttering and delay problems and their solutions will be much appreciated.

If your project contains audio clips as well as video clips, you might be seeing the slowdown that occurs when the project contains many audio clips.
More about the problem here, with workarounds:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2597033#2597033
The precise number of audio clips that causes this problem seems to vary from Mac to Mac. As few as 30 audio clips has been reported.
The project I just tested plays poorly except in Full Screen mode. That wasn't true in the others I tested, but apparently Full Screen does work for some projects. So what I see here is consistent with your experience.

Now, the games I'm currently playing are:
    Medieval 2: Total War<
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic<
    Neverwinter Nights 2<
The problems I'm experiencing are only with the sound. Dark Messiah is absolutely the worst offender with persistant stuttering audio that happens so frequently that I can only play it for a few minutes before having to quit and restart. I actually suspect the game implementation because of how buggy it is. Looks like it has potential once resolved.
With all the games, however, I have frequent clicking sounds whenever videos are being played (Bink mainly). Also an oddity is that I also get clicking sounds in-game while scrolling around or essentially anything that causes a lot of changes in the video such as intense combat. This computer is so fast, that even at the highest possible video settings, I am pretty much stuck at 60FPS, except for NWN2 which hovers around 30FPS with max settings. Medieval 2 has it's moments in combat where I'm getting over 200FPS with FRAPS engaged!
My theory is that the extreme amount of video data being passed around might be causing issues with audio not getting enough bandwidth to do it's own thing, so I tested it by dropping the resolution and it didnt' make a difference in a series of tests. What I did notice is that the music is getting interference, higher pitched or more busy music is subject to the clicking sounds while scrolling in Medieval 2. When the music is quiet and faded between songs, there are no distortions at all.
I started the tech support process and they emailed me an article from their knowledge base:

All these symptoms (and any other degradation of sound quality for that matter) can mostly be traced back to system / BIOS settings that prevent your audio sub-system from functioning properly. In other words, if your system is optimised ("tweaked") for a specific task, the result might be that the extra bit of 3D power or data transfer speed to the dri'ves uses up so much of the systems resources, that there is simply not enough left for your sound card to do its job as it should. Sometimes even the factory settings of certain PCs / Motherboards can cause symptoms as described above.
The following guide is separated into the following main sections. If changing one specific setting does not resolve the difficulty, it is recommended that you change it back to the previous setting, or the default setting, before proceeding with a different configuration.

Ensure your Sound Blaster card is installed in a PCI slot as far away as possible from components such as graphics card, CPU and hard dri'ves.<
Ensure that?the PCI slot?doesn't share resources with other devices in your PC (mainly graphics card, dri've interfaces, etc...)<
Remove all unnecessary hardware. Every device installed in your system uses some of the available resources, even if you do not acti'vely use it.<
Tidy up all cables inside your computer as electrical interference may be caused otherwise.<
Ensure that audio drivers are up to date.<
Download and install the latest chipset drivers and BIOS update. The major chipset manufactures are: VIA/ETEQ, AMD/Nvidia, Intel, SIS. Ali? To address the issues:
With SLI, I only have PCI slot, which is between the two video cards with the SLI connector going over top of it. There is no possible way to get closer to the video cards...<
    Everything else checks out.<
    Other notes:
Going to the Creative Entertainment Center : Entertainment Center?Settings pops up a window which allows me to tweak remote control settings. I tried disabling the remote control and the program crashed!<
Using the Mode Switcher to switching modes from Game Mode to Entertainment mode didn't solve the problem. Neither did Audio Creation Mode.<
I've printed out the article and going to work on changing some of the settings.<

Figured my dxdiag info would help...still trying to fix the problem. I chopped some stuff out. [size="" face="Courier New">------------------

  • Stuttering playback

    Hi
I am editing in a ProRes LT 422 time line using ProRes LT material 1920 x 1080p. This is on a Mac pro Quad-Core Xeon with 6GB DDR3 and a 4TB esata stripped raid, using OS x10.6.4 and Final Cut 7.
I have been suffering from intermittent playback issues since this project started, it has been inconsistent whole sequences playing through perfectly then not. Changing the RT and quality does make a difference but again not consistently.
Then I started to look at the front slate which is made up of a B/W jpeg and several layers of none animated text. this is the only material in any of the sequences that was not prores. Re formatting them as a prores movie and limiting the layers to two levels of text appears to have stopped this stuttering. But I am not convinced that its that stupid! has anyone else seen this kind of behaviour is my fix a real fix or am I missing something else.
    Thanks in Advance
    Steve

Moving from LT to SQ did not help the issue. To explain a little further playback actually stops on this slate in multiple sequences @23.98fps and then will affect the playback of any other media in the time line. Swapping sequences will sometime reset the playback, sometimes not. My issue is that this is a Prores LT project as prescribed by the client, changing the setting is not really an option. What I really want to understand is why this jpeg still and text layer can affect things so badly. The jpeg is not corrupt; I have tried resetting the user preferences that made no difference.

  • All flash videos are stuttering

So recently , all my flash videos have started to stutter. Whether it is small gifs , chrome , firefox or internet explorer , the audio is fine and the quality is consistent for the most part but every 1-3 seconds there is a constant stutter. I have tried to disable Hardware acceleration as well as cleaning up all my flash files but none of these have worked. Im wondering if anyone has experience with those problems and can offer me a solution for this constant , annoying stuttering.

GIFs are images, NOT Flash Player. And they contain no sound. You CANNOT view GIFs with Flash Player.

  • Stuttering Audio from Capture Ingest

I have been having a problem for a while now.  When ingesting a tape or direct line, sometimes the audio on the record will begin stuttering.  At a seemingly random point, the audio of the record will begin to loop a 1 second bite over and over until the record is complete.  Confirmed it is the capture by playing the clip in other programs.  Odd thing is the real time playback as it is capturing will sound fine.  I end up knowing there is a problem when the capture is complete, because the "Save Captured Clip" window will fail to pop up when it reaches the out point.  Instead it will continue to record beyond the set out point.
There is no consistency where this audio fail happens.  Sometimes it won't even happen at all.  This has happened with DVCPRO tapes, Sony HDCAM tapes, and even a studio line cut from our switcher.  Any insight or suggestions would be helpful.
    Mac OS 10.9.4

    AJA Capture Settings:
Pixel Format: MC DVCPRO HD 1080i60
Audio Format: 16 bit LE PCM

Typically, "stuttering" can be a result of either low signal strength or high signal noise values, or both.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) from getting a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
    For Macs:
    o MacStumbler
    o iStumbler
    For PCs:
    o NetStumbler
    o WiFi Manager

  • Music stutters at beginning of track in iTunes

I'm using iTunes 9.2 on a Mac Pro with 14gb of RAM, running 10.6. Lately it has a habit of stuttering right at the beginning of a track, and this is occurring on pretty much every song it plays now.
What will happen is the song will play for about two seconds, then the sound cuts out for about a half second, then it plays through the rest of the track without incident. And this issue is happening very consistently. Does anyone have any ideas?

I too have this issue but it's with music videos. Any way of improving performance?

  • Video on DVD stutters

    Hiya there,
    Let's start with the issue:
I create mini movies in iMovie from 6MP photos and 640/480 (30fps) videos from same digital camera. These look absolute stunning:
    - in iMovie when I preview them
    - as an exported mpeg4 file.
But as soon as I have iDVD render the project to DVD:
    - the photos still look gorgeous
    - the video stutters, as if the framerate has dropped to 10fps.
    Now, don't get me wrong:
    - I do work with 720P iMovie projects
    - I don't have iMovie send my movie to iDVD, I use expert settings to export the video in mpeg4. This because I found out that iPhoto slideshows looked consistently stunning with just a slight stutter during Kens Burns. And - lo and behold - iPhoto exports in mpeg4.
Any hints would be most welcome,
thanks from the flatland where most Earthians think Amsterdam is a separate country (well, maybe those Earthians aren't so far off the mark)
    iMac 20" Core   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi there Len,
Well, QT (.dv) doesn't seem to render photos as sharp as MP4 does. iPhoto exports slideshows to MP4 prior to import in iDVD and I found that the slideshows looked markedly better than the videos.
The issue with the choppy, stuttering iDVD product remains however. Since posting I've tried to save as a DVD image in iDVD and burning it through Nero (yes, my iMac has been dual booted). The stuttering isn't solved however. This got me thinking.
Is the stuttering caused by the - supposedly - bad MPEG2 decoder in iDVD?
Might the stuttering be caused by the iMac DVD burner (I've used +R and it can also burn in -R)?
Would be stuttering be solved if I would burn the DVD through Toast Titanium instead?
    Thanks for your reply Len!
    Take care, Evert

  • HD (High Definition) Video playback stutters and there is lag

When I play HD content on my Macbook the video stutters alot, although the audio is fine. Thus I basically cannot watch HD movies.
Any ideas how to solve this. I've closed all other programs when I'm playing the movie, and I'm not running off the battery.

YouTube playback is going to be limited by your internet connection speed more than anything else, so I wouldn't use that as any test for HD playback. Besides, YouTube is running on Adobe's Flash technology which is notorious for its poor performance.
You say you are having problems even with .m4v files but where did those files come from? Can you try the Disney video clip ("Earth" HD 1080p preview) I mentioned earlier since I know that it works well on my MacBook. If you are playing files that have been encoded by just any user with just any third-party tool then I'm not certain that you can use those as a test either (since some files that you will find on the internet will be encoded, well, just badly).
As for Spaces and Exposé the relative performance with those tools can be affected by a lot of factors, some completely "normal" (i.e. I wouldn't expect their operation to always be smooth).
Have you tried running with _all_ peripherals disconnected and with networking/WiFi/Bluetooth disabled?
Have you confirmed that you don't have a memory or disk "hog" that is running in the background? How about checking for any high-CPU loads that are running in the background? Have you used Apple's Activity Monitor in the show "All Processes" mode (with a sort on % CPU)?
Here is what I see in Activity Monitor while viewing the "Earth" HD preview in the QuickTime Player on my 2.0GHz MacBook (with only the QuickTime Player and Activity Monitor applications running):
Activity Monitor: All Processes Sorted by % CPU
     QuickTime Player     27.6 (% CPU)
     WindowServer            6.2
     Activity Monitor         5.9
     pmTool                      2.9
     kernel_task                 1.9
     Finder                         0.0
<and many more all running at 0.0>
These numbers (% CPU) will fluctuate but generally you should only see QuickTime Player, WindowServer, and Activity Monitor running at more than a few percent. You may see _very_ brief spikes from some other processes but these should be rare and very short. In particular for the "Earth" HD 1080p preview you should see the QuickTime Player at the top of the list and generally running in the mid to upper twenty percent range (% CPU).
Here is the System Memory data from Activity Monitor (this was taken immediately after a restart of my MacBook but while playing the HD video in QuickTime Player):
Free 1.3GB  (this will vary with the amount of installed memory, my MacBook has 2GB SDRAM)
     Wired: 162MB
     Active: 255MB
     Inactive: 9MB
     Used: 426MB
     VM Size: 30GB
     Page ins: 85MB
     Page outs: 0 bytes
     Swap used: 0 bytes
Once again, these numbers will vary so don't expect an exact match to what you will see. However, the only figures that I would think would vary by much are the VM Size and the Free memory if you have more than 2GB installed in your MacBook. This also assumes that you've done a restart immediately before you play the video in the QuickTime Player. By the way, have you installed any third-party memory in your MacBook? You seem to have 4GB, is that all Apple installed or did you upgrade it yourself?
Under Activity Monitor's Disk Activity you will see a lot of variation (up and down in the Data read/sec) while the movie is playing but generally you should stay in the low, single-digit MB/sec range (e.g. 2.1MB/sec). The range will go from only a few hundred KB/sec to maybe (rarely) up to something like 6MB/sec. However, Data write/sec should be very low on average (actually around zero).
Next download the AJA System Test application and check your hard drive performance (it's a free download from http://www.aja.com/products/software/ ). When running the AJA benchmark you should be seeing transfer rates that are consistently and steadily in the 40 to 50MB/sec range. AJA System Test allows you to watch the transfer rates in a graph so you can look for unexpected "stalls" in the hard disk access and transfer rates. To test for long period transfers increase the File Size option to something over 1GB. You may want to run this test several times while you have nothing else running on your MacBook. You may see a few brief but significant drops in the I/O Transactions rate but generally both the read and write rates should stay quite close to 50MB/s. If you don't see numbers like I've noted above then you may have a hard drive issue (either hardware or software or some background task that is using your disk even when you don't know it).
After all the above checks if you are still seeing obvious stutters while playing the "Earth" HD preview then I suspect that you either have a hardware problem or have some third-party software installed that is causing playback problems. This assumes, however, that you have tried all of the troubleshooting steps that I've outlined before (such as disconnecting all peripherals and turning off WiFi and Bluetooth).
