Query descritpion in PDF

Hi
I am new to WAD.
I copied the existing version of standard 0ANALYSIS_PATTER TO ZANALYSIS_PATTERN and made this as a standard template.
Now i copied ZANALYSIS_PATTERN to TESTTEMPLATE and assigned my dataprovider and executed the template. Now I can see my report in the web. when i click on the PRINT VERSION button and click print ,my report is opening in the PDF file and can see the results along with dynamic filters, static filters and variables in the first page on top section of the pdf file BUT i cannot see the QUERY description .
Now in the TESTTEMPLATE for the EXPORT command, my template points to 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT and my databinding web item is DEFAULT. when i change my databinding web item to display also query descrition, it giving me the error message when i execute the template.
when i checked the 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT template there is a web item called "Info Field" which gives the information about the filters and variables but this web item is not present in the TESTTEMPLATE(Copied from 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN) then how come my pdf is showing all the filters. Hope its clear.
Thanks
Annie

Dear Annie
In TESTTEMPLATE, which is a copy of standard template i.e. 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN, for the EXPORT command as you said,  template points to 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT and the databinding web item is DEFAULT. This default means that the web item in databinding is the web template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT.
When EXPORT command is triggered, it calls this web template which has "Info Field", Analysis Item and Chart. nd hence, though the Infofield is not available in the report, you can still see it.
To have Query description in PDF, what you can do is:
1.) You can have Query Description as Header in the PDF output, either to left, center or Right. To have that, in the Export command settings, hardcode the Free Text as the Query Description you have for either of the properties Header Left (HEADER_LEFT), Header Center (HEADER_CENTER), Header Right (HEADER_RIGHT). http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/44/85de4943af5919e10000000a1553f7/content.htm
2.) To have it at the top of the page as a proper heading, you wil need to make a copy of 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT, for eg. TESTEXPORT and in that, add the web item 'Text'. Goto the text property, set Text Binding to 'Query Description'. Then, in place you had 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT, place ' TESTEXPORT'.

I hope it is clear..!

  • How to get result query to print PDF pages, e.g.invoices?

    Greetings
    I have set up the query results to fill an html page with data which is an invoice to be sent out to lesees.
    Using the cfdocument tag, I can get a printable PDF version with the mailing address positioned to show in a window envelope, etc., but only one at a time.
    There is a way to loop through all the records (in this case, over 1000) and print out the whole lot (single page invoices in PDF) with one command, I assume?
    I have looked into cfprint and cfreport, but don't see how these could be used in this situation?
    Thanks for any help with this...

    Copy all 1000 invoces as one PDF document, then print. Something like this
    <cfdocument format="PDF" name="invoices">
    <html>
    <cfloop through query or array or list, and so on, to get each address>
    <!--- Text containing a dynamically generated address goes here --->
    </cfloop>
    <!--- Starts a new page for each pass of the loop --->
    <cfdocumentitem type="pagebreak" />
    </html>
    </cfdocument>
    <cfprint source="invoices" printer="\\s1001prn02\NTN-2W-HP_BW02">

    There is a commercial tool called plpdf, but i can't tell if its good..
    Also possible would be to create an XML-FO with sql or pl/sql.
    And then use Apache-FOP to convert the XML-FO into a pdf, rtf or whatever you want.
    No extra costs but the effort to learn a bit about the fo elements/syntax.
    I think the newer Apex-Versions can doing something like this also. Maybe additionally ask in the Apex Forums.

  • Prepress query about supplied PDFs with ICC profiles

    Hello please help
    Working at a print company we get a lot of print ready PDFs supplied
    We have our own press colour profile which we ideally apply to all PDFs
    My question is what to do with a supplied PDF which contains a none standard ICC profile on either the full PDF or embedded in the images or text.
    Is there an industry standard for changing the colour profile on CMYK images?
    We can strip the ICC profile using pitstop, but doesn't this create problems with images that have been converted from RGB to CMYK using under colour removal etc?
    If we would just convert the total PDF into our printing colour profile (by placing it into indesign or using distiller) it tends to mess up images which are already CMYK with an embedded ICC profile.
    Any help would be appreciated, thank you very much

    Thanks for your reply, we have actually been advised not to use this setting on our RIP. We are trying to get in contact with our RIP supplier tech guy to sort out why we aren't using this, to me it feels like this would maybe save us a lot of hassle yes. I will get back when we know more, thanks!

  • Query on LC PDF Generator ES2 new features

    Hi,
    Has anyone try out Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator ES2 new features?
    Based on Adobe Upgrade Center http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/upgrade/pdfgenerator.html, it mentioned that PDF Generator ES2 has the ability to embed SWF files in PDF.
    But is this also applicable to Flex Application compiled SWF file?
    Does the generated PDF function as a normal interactive form or a flat static form?
    Able to retain its embedded schema and objects (scripts)?
    Thanks.

    Hi Jess - ES is jut running on a virgin XP SP2 Virtual PC (2gb RAM dedicated) so no other processes should be accessing it.
    One thing I wondered - for the ES Preview, you get a 30 day eval of Acrobat 8.1 Pro - which of course usually comes up with the 'this is an eval - do you want to buy/continue' I would not have thought it would have been included if a problem, but could that be it?
    "Check to be sure the environment variables are set up correctly - this should be done automatically during installation and deployment."
    - all the JDK stuff was checked and seemed fine.
    Major problem is the vagueness of the LC error msg - any way to get more detailed error info??
    Thanks

  • View and Navigate through PDF´s on a DB2 SQL Query

    Hello,
    We need to create a windows forms application in .Net to view and navigate through pdf´s that are located on a DB2 Express SQL database using the Acrobat SDK or PDF Library.
    The idea would be to query the SQL table and the result we should be able to view and navigate through by using the viewer procedures from the SDK without having to send the PDF files to a temporary folder on the hard drive.
    So for example, if the query returned 20 pdf´s, we should be able to navigate and view these pdf´s on a windows form connecting directly to the query via streams or a data source.
    We assume that what we need is some sort of procedure to connect the viewer to the query through a data source.
    Please help us to research about this and determine if this is possible.
    Thanks.

    Hello lrosenth and thanks for your reply.
    Our goal is to develop a Windows Form in .Net where we could view the pdf without launching Acrobat.
    I guess you mean that we should develop a plugin in C/C++ for Acrobat, but that is not what we intend.
    Is there a way to develop a function in .Net that will allow a Windows Form to read a stream with a pdf using Adobe ´s SDK or PDF´s library?
    If so, would you be so kind as to point us to some reading material?

  • Question regarding outputing results of query to pdf file

    Is there a way in which we can output the results of the query to a PDF file in PLSQL?
    Thanks much,
    Madhu

    I have a situation where there needs to be emails sent to the customers on a daily basis.Right now there is scheduled bat file on a particular machine which calls the Form which has the logic to generate the pdf file using Oracle Reports for each of the customer,which is then mailed using Outlook(OLE in form).But now this is kind of a problem as they are constant network problems which hinder the timely sending of the reports.
    I am trying to look for a solution so that we can do everything on database end instead of relying on the newtork.
    Thank you for any suggestions you have regarding implementing this.

  • Error message from a BAD PDF

    I am using Adobe Reader to render PDF documents as a part of a process and then convert it into TIFF. Some of the documents that come in are corrupt PDF documents and cannot render itself in the reader and hence cannot be converted. This is the error that the reader throws:
    ADobe reader could not open "test.PDF" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged(for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)
    Now, the process is automated with no human intervention. with the advent of this error message, since there is a modal dialog box waiting for a response from the user, the process is interrupted and needs human intervention.
    My question is simply this. Is there an API i could use where i can figure out beforehand if the PDF is bad so i can reject such files early on? research shows that using the adobe forms server which has the PDF utility services, there is a query "Is a PDF document" that is available. I do not want to use a server product.
    Is there any other ADOBE product that exposes something similar?

    I guess i forgot to add that piece of information. WE do not create the PDFs. We receive PDFs from external sources over which we have absolutely no control  and that explains why we get such corrupt documents in the first place. I was just wondering if there was a simple API event/method/means attached to any ADOBE product which is compatible with .net that tells me if the PDF is corrupt UPFRONT.

  • Reading Data into a PDF form with cfpdfform and cfpdfformparam

    I have been trying to read data from a query into a PDF form. I have the application setup to generate a new pdf file for every record in the database table which is working perfectly, but when I try to have the application pre-populate the form fields in the pdf form they remain empty. I have included a snippet of the code that creates the PDF documents. I am using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 to create the PDF form.
    Snippet Example:
    <cfoutput query="renewals">
    <cfset new_file = "#reportnumber#.pdf" />
    <cfpdfform action = "populate" source = "beta.pdf" destination = "#new_file#">
      <cfpdfformparam name="Legal_Contact_Name" value="#LegalContactName#">
    </cfpdfform>
    <cfpdf action = "write" source = "#new_file#" destination = "#new_file#" flatten = "yes" overwrite  = "yes" />
    </cfoutput>
    All help is greatly appreciated...

    I'm just glad I might be of any help.
    First, make sure the image is embeded as a base64 encoded string in the xml structure you're working with on your form you've built in LiveCycle Designer.
    I do this by reading the image file and outputing its content as a base64 string:
    <cffile action="read" file="#expandPath('Path/to/your/image/file/BC.TIF')#" variable="imgObj" />
    <img>#toBase64(imgObj)#</img>
    Your PDF form should be bound to this 'img' field from your xml structure in LiveCycle Designer.
    This works perfectly and the image from the xml is indeed displayed in the PDF form generated with cfpdf.
    BUT, from the moment you convert the pdf form to static pdf document, the image will be gone - the dynamic text remains.
    Note:  I never further investigated why the image disapears once the pdf form is converted to 'static' pdf.  Thinking about it now, it might have been an incoding issue.  The toBase64() function in ColdFusion has an optional "Encoding" argument, may be by playing with the encoding the image might finally 'survive' the conversion to static pdf.
    Good luck.
    note: this will populate the pdf form from your xml structure in ColdFusion.
    <cfpdfform action="populate" source="/path/to/LiveCycle_generated_templateForm.pdf" xmldata="#your_xml_structure#" destination="/path/to/result.pdf" overwrite="yes" />

  • Store PDF files in database.

    hi all
    how to store PDF files in database and how to retreive plz guide me thanks in davance.
    sarah

    Sarah,
    so your pdf-document is stored in the database.
    we jump over step 4 what would be the code for sending the pdf-file to the database ...
    Step 5 open the stored pdf-file:
    Please create a when-mouse-doubleclick trigger on your filename-item:
    declare
    l_temp_file constant varchar2(255) := client_win_api_environment.get_environment_string ( 'Temp' ) || '\temp.pdf';
    begin
    if
    :pdf.filename is not null
    then
      if
        webutil_file_transfer.db_to_client ( l_temp_file, 'PDF', 'PDF', ' id_pdf = ''' || :pdf.id_pdf || '''' )
      then
        client_host ( 'cmd /C start ' || l_temp_file );
      else
        Message ( 'Failure while downloading ' || :pdf.filename || ' from the database. ' || dbms_error_text );
        Message ( ' ' );
        clear_message;
      end if;
    else
      Message ( 'No PDF-file selected.'  );
      Message ( ' ' );
      clear_message;
    end if;
    end;Save your form, compile and run it.
    Execute a query on the pdf-block and doubleclick your filename item.
    Now you can read your forms reference pdf direct from the database :).

  • Passing Parameters to a report query

    I have built a report query, the query has 3 parameters.
    select * from EMP_DETAIL
    where
    emp=:EMPP
    and loc=:LOCP
    and seq=:SEQP
    When I test the query, enter the parameters manually, it renders and I get my report.
    When I add this layout to a standard on screen report region, I can not figure out how to pass the column values to those parameters.
    I'll try to explain. I have a report
    SELECT * FROM EMP
    The users can filter the report down, then when they find the emp they want, I have created a report link that is supposed to run the detail query and have the detail report come up in a PDF.
    So lets say they choose employee 0009, the columns have the :LOCP and the SEQP
    I want the report query for the PDF print to be filled in and the report rendered and printed. Like I said, I can test the report query/layout from the shared components section but I can not get the column values of say #EMP#,#LOC#,#SEQ# passed to the report.
    When I click the report, it appears to run forever. I do not know what is being passed to the report query.

    Starting to wonder if my question doesn't make sense.
    Does not seem to be something that hard.
    I have a APEX 3.0 stored report query and layout loaded via the shared components section. The stored report accepts 3 parameters.
    I have an employee report region (Select * from emp) and I have a derived link column that has a pretty picture in it. What I want to happen is when the users naturally migrate towards the bright colors on the screen in front of them and peck away at the mouse button, the values of the corresponding 3 columns are passed to the stored report and the report is ran and a PDF pops up and surprises the little buggers... sorry users that they actually managed to do something other than whine.
    Ideas, any takers?
    Maybe I will have to start a new thread with subject of
    "PLZ HELP MZ URGENT!!!!!! PLZ PLZ "
    or
    "ORACLE IS STUPIDO!!!"
    Those seems to get a lot of replies, some even helpful :)
