Query Extensions: in Enterprise Edition only?

Hi,
I want to try to clarify something in the docs. Section 7.4 of the Kodo
2.4.2 docs states this:
"Kodo JDO Enterprise Edition allows developers to optimize and customize
their datastore queries by adding new custom operations to JDOQL. In
addition, Kodo provides some built-in extensions to simplify some common
queries outside the JDOQL specification."
Does the "Kodo" in the second sentence mean Kodo EE, or Kodo standard?
I read this to mean the EE version allows the additon od new queries,
which "Kodo", the standard version, comes with these few additional
queries (ext:stringContains etc) out of the box. But some
experimentation seems to suggest all query extensions are limited to EE.
Is this correct, or are my experiments misguided?
Thanks,
Mike.

Yes, that is correct. The whole extension functinality is a single
module that can be enabled via our Enterprise Edition or by licensing
that component individually.

  • Identify db-functionality only available in Oracle Enterprise Edition

    Hi
I have an application with lots of PL/SQL logic. The development database for this application is Oracle Enterprise Edition and now we are going to install the application in an Oracle Standard Edition database at customer site.
To be prepared I want to verify if I use (and remove) any db-functinality only available in Enterprise Edition.
Is it possible to start an Oracle Enterprise Edition database in “Standard Edition mode”? Or is there any other way to scan the code?

After installing the EE software, IMO there is no way to start it in SE mode. As Data dictionary metadata stuff is different for EE and SE.
You need to install SE and do exp/imp

  • Archivelogs to different locations - only with Enterprise Edition? How to?

    Hello,
while searching for an answer to 'how to store my archivelogs to different locations' I came across a post, that says, that this is only possible with enterprise edition? Is that true?
In case it is not: How do I add to an online database a second or more targets? I tried it on a test database, but the new target was not accepted, the entry pointing to the FRA was deleted, and everythin stopped, of course. Is there a way to add a second target without shutting down the database? Could anyone please explain, I am afraid to crash our live database. But living without a second target makes me nervous...
Thank you very much for your help,
    Chris

Did you look at the documentation for 10g?
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/log_transport.htm#i1265402
This was only for remote db site but there is more in the book.
    5.2.2.1 Changing Destination Attributes
You can dynamically update most of the attribute values of the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n and the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_n parameters using the ALTER SYSTEM SET statement.
The modifications take effect after the next log switch on the primary database. For example, to defer redo transport services from transmitting redo data to the remote standby database named boston, issue the following statements on the primary database:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2='SERVICE=boston
    2> VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE)';
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2=DEFER;
    Read and have fun.
I think the point you missed is that you got to set the state of the destination as well.

  • Solution Manager Enterprise Edition upgrade slow

    Hi
I am performing SOMAN 7.0 upgrade to Enterprise edition by upgrading kernel 701 and SP stack 18. I have already upgraded the kernel and java stack and now in the process of upgrading ABAP. I am expereincing really slow performance of this upgrade. I have checked tp and R3trans version which is uptodate as I updated kernel. I cant see any problem with CPU utilization as well swapping. I checked the SLOGs and there are no alerting errors. I see its moving and its very slow. I am just wondering if any of you guys experienced this - is this normal since this is a upgrade?

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards

  • Slow updations (Oracle 11g 64 bit enterprise edition on Linux RHEL)

I have created Following table for profiling updates per second in Oracle Database
    Test(RecordId number,Desciption varchar2(2000) //Btree Index on record id only
    Table has 10000 records only.
I did updation for every record in loop by follwing query(Stored procedure executed on same server where database exists no network is coming in picture)
update Test set description = description + 'something' where Recordid = i (loop counter)//existing description has 1000 characters
I am wondering that updation of only 10000 records was taking 100 Seconds.
    I was expecting atlease 1000 records/second but it is 100 record/second
Can anyone help to correct me and tell how can we improve database updations?
    Processor Dual proc dual core
    Raid with reading speed 2.5Gbps
    OS : Linux RHEL
    Database:Oracle enterprise edition 64 bit.
    sga_max_size = 1.5 GB
Any help will be highly appreciated.

You are running a loop but Oracle will give you read consistency.
Oracle is probably cloning some of the datablocks as it re-reads them because
it finds that the block has been previously updated.
That sort of a loop is absolutely the wrong way to test Oracle.

  • Oracle standard edition vs. enterprise edition

    Hi all
Due to cost constraints, we have had to downgrade our 8i Database Enterprise Edition installation to Standard Edition.
My question is: do we have to re-create our database under Standard Edition, to make it a 'Standard Edition' database, or can we just re-open our existing database (created under Enterprise Edition) with the Standard Edition?
I installed 8i SE and opened our database but, of course, SELECT BANNER FROM V$VERSION suggests we're still running the EE.
Are we breaking the terms of our licence by using this existing database?
    Very many thanks
    Andrew

    Hi!
My impression is during the database creation time, Oracle incorporates in data dictionary the options available for each product edition in that time.
Try to execute a specific operation that needs an E.E. license just like parallel query, advanced replication, and Partitioning.
    Execute this query:
    select * from v$option;
And compare to the Database Feature and Option Availability ( notes available on metalink ):
Differences Between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition in 8i
    Note:112591.1
Differences between Oracle 8.1.x Personal, Standard and Enterprise on NT/2000
    Note:70059.1
As long as this is only my impression, try opening a SR to make it sure.
    HTH
    Best regards.

  • High Availability Options Without Enterprise Edition

I think I've found the answer to this already but I just wanted to confirm that I'm getting this right. In SQL Server 2012, is there no way to implement a high-availability solution which doesn't require shared storage or use of a deprecated feature without
    having Enterprise Edition?
At the moment we have databases hosted on a primary server running Windows Server 2012 Standard and SQL Server 2012 Standard.  We have a second, identical server, and the databases are mirrored between the two servers using Database Mirroring.
This works perfectly and meets all of our requirements.  The only possible problem is that we're looking at storing documents using FILESTREAM, which isn't available in Mirrored databases.
From what I've read, Database Mirroring is deprecated in SQL Server 2012.  High Availability Groups, which sound great, are only available in the Enterprise Edition.  This feels like a real kick in the teeth from Microsoft.  We're stuck
with either using a deprecated feature (Mirroring), which is only postponing the problem until the end of 2012's life cycle, or laying out significant amounts of money (in the tens of thousands of pounds GBP) to upgrade to Enterprise Edition, which we just
    don't have the budget for.
Why couldn't Microsoft continue to offer a high availability option for businesses without deep pockets?  Do I have any options I'm not thinking of?  Shared storage is not an option (too costly, single point of failure, geographically separated
    datacentres).

    Thanks for all the feedback.
I was forgetting that even data stored as FILESTREAM would need to be backed up using SQL backups, so I guess that's an issue either way, thank for reminding me, Sebastian.
Geoff, I agree that replication isn't a viable HA solution.  FCI has lots going for it, but from what I can make out (and I am just reading up on this now so I could be wrong) requires either shared storage or a third-party tool to move the data from
the Primary server's local storage to the local storage of the Secondaries.  It all seems overly complicated when Mirroring does exactly what I need it to do, merrily writing transactions to the mirrors at the same time as the primary databases.
Additionally, whilst you might be right about making the case for Enterprise Edition, it's difficult to make a clear case to non-technical people when we already have a working HA solution and document management.  Trying to explain the nuanced advantages
of SQL Server full-text indexing (at present we use a third-party indexing product which stores the index discretely) and simplified querying when the documents are in the same database as their associated data as justification for spending tens of thousands
    of pounds is a challenge!
David, that's useful to know, about the disadvantages of using FILESTREAM and how just storing the documents in a VARBINARY(MAX) column might actually give better performance, thank you.

  • Oracle standard edition one and enterprise edition difference

Can the stadard edition one support user roles and access priveleges for them, for example can I create a user called u1, create an access privelege read_only and assign u1 to read_only.
Also, can I do database audits on the standard edition one database.
Can also be reached at [email protected]
    Appreciate your response.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Here is the basic difference between Standard Edition One and Enterprise Edition
Oracle Database Standard Edition One :
Oracle Database Standard Edition One delivers unprecedented ease of
use, power, and performance for workgroup, department-level, and Web
applications. Standard Edition One can only be licensed on servers with
a maximum capacity of two processors.
    Oracle Database Enterprise Edition :
Oracle Database Enterprise Edition provides the performance,
availability, scalability, and security required for mission-critical
applications such as high-volume online transaction processing (OLTP)
applications, query-intensive data warehouses, and demanding Internet
applications. Oracle Database Enterprise Edition contains all of the
components of Oracle Database, and can be further enhanced with the
purchase of the options and packs.

  • Restoring an Oracle Enterprise Edition DB into XE for use with APEX

Hello, we're just in the process of decomissioning a load of servers and I came across an old Oracle DB box which has an install of APEX (well, HTMLDB) and a backend DB on an Enterprise Edition server, after battling with Oracle for 2 days I finally managed to get it to a state where I think it's restored successfully onto XE but up on the final "startup" I was presented with:
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
ORA-39712: XE edition server cannot open database
I really want\need to get this DB off of this server, because as you all probably know - Oracle DB EE isn't exactly cheap, and seen as though it's used for this historical app I kinda need to get it off of this hardware\software and into a low-end VM for it to chug away happily and be accessed when needs be...
Another option I though of, if I were to do a reinstall of XE, and then data pump the info from the EE to XE? Would that work?
I apologies for any numptiness in this question, but I really haven't got any experience with Oracle - and it's been a learning curve of much frustration coming from my easy to use MSSQL interfaces!
    The steps I took were:
    1) Run nid to rename the DB from "XE" to "ESTALTST"
    a) Do some faffing about with tnsnames and listener.ora to get it to realise ESTALTST
    2) Take a backup of logs\db from source
    3) Catalog the backups
    4) Restore control file
    5) A lot of messing about getting the DB happy with the structures of things
    6) recover database;
    7) alter database resetlogs; <- this is where it said I had to do startup upgrade;
    8) shutdown immediate; startup upgrade;
    9) Where I am now.
    Thanks,
    Rich.

Just wondering, if the DB files are about 1Gb, should my dump file be 157Mb?I don't know, that depends on the actual amount of data stored in your database.
The filesize is no reliable measure for this. To give you a simple example: You have a "order entry" schema where you started storing your data 10 years ago. You initialized your data files with just a few megs and let Oracle do the extension automatically, so it grew and grew and is about 1 GB today. Now you decide that you don't need data that is older than two years in that schema and delete all outdated data. After you did that, your data files still be that 1 GB, though you only use about 20 percent of it. Oracle doesn't shrink your data files automatically...
To get a good estimation, you can run something like
    SELECT f.file_name,
                            CEIL( f.bytes / 1024 / 1024 ) "SIZE_MB",
                            CEIL( f.bytes / 1024 / 1024 ) - FLOOR( SUM( NVL( fs.bytes, 0 ) ) / 1024 / 1024 ) "USED_MB",
                            FLOOR( SUM( NVL( fs.bytes, 0 ) ) / 1024 / 1024 ) "FREE_MB",
                            CEIL( f.maxbytes / 1024 / 1024 ) "MAX_MB"
                       FROM dba_free_space fs,
                            dba_data_files f
                      WHERE fs.file_id(+)     = f.file_id
                   GROUP BY f.file_name,
                            f.bytes,
                            f.maxbytes,
                            f.blocks,
                            f.maxblocks,
                            f.autoextensible
ORDER BY f.file_name;to see how much space is actually used in your data files. Note that this doesn't necessarily mean that your dump has to have that size. There are a few aspects (like compression) that could cause a difference...

  • Upgradation from 10g R2 Enterprise Edition to 11g R2 Standard Edition

    Hi All,
I am going through a challange, and have some doubts on it, please have a look on it.
My DB Details are as follows.
    Queried from TOAD:
    Production Server Details:
    SELECT * FROM V$VERSION
    BANNER
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Prod
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE   10.2.0.4.0   Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    Development Server Details:
    SELECT * FROM V$VERSION
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    CORE   10.2.0.1.0   Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
Production server is in Enterprise Edition and Development is in Standard edition. Now my organization expecting to upgrade Oracle to next Database Version i.e., 11g R2 Standard Edition in both Production & Development, cause they are using only a single application in Oracle DB.
For production, current DB is Enterprise Edition & Upgrading version is of Standard Edition.  What are the consequences am I going to face while upgrading the version and edition from 10g R2 EE to 11g R2 SE.
What are the patches I need to apply for it, or need I to do new Installation and dump data using Import & Export at user level. My DB Data is mostly around 2 - 3Gigs.
Kindly let me know which is easy way and which is standard practice advised by Oracle.
    Thanks in Advance.

Enterprise edition has lot of features than standard edition and hence we can not migrate from enterprise edition to standard edition,.
The only possibility is Export/Import or Expdp/Impdp

  • Search Service Application problems after upgrading from Foundation to Enterprise edition of SharePoint 2013

Hi all. I have been searching for days for a solution to a problem I am having with SP2013 Enterprise edition.
We recently upgraded from SP2013 Foundation to SP2013 Enterprise. After the upgrade, the search services are no longer working and we are receiving many application log entries indicating the following:
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (ea2019ef-bb9e-4efe-85ee-5d2307406f31).
Reason: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

       at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance.Synchronize()
       at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.ApplicationServerJob.ProvisionLocalSharedServiceInstances(Boolean isAdministrationServiceJob)
    as well as:
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (ea2019ef-bb9e-4efe-85ee-5d2307406f31).
Reason: The object you are trying to create already exists. Try again using a different name.
    Technical Support Details:

       at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance.Synchronize()
       at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.ApplicationServerJob.ProvisionLocalSharedServiceInstances(Boolean isAdministrationServiceJob)
I have tried to remove the search service application and recreate it, and even though the SharePoint Central Administration states that it was created successfully, I am still getting the same errors in the log. If I go to the Search Service Application
Search Administration page, the "System Status" shows the following message:
The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '0359af35-0982-4ede-8838-b1d390e915bf' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and
    try again
Additionally, under the "Search Application Topology" section, it states "Unable to retrieve topology component health states. This may be because the admin component is not up and running" which I assume is normal if the admin is not
    running.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Joaquin,
According to your description, the error occurred when you re-created the Search Service Application.
Based on the error message, I recommend to verify the things below:
       1. Check if the association between the Search Service Application proxy and the web application is configured.
Please go to Central Administration > Application Management > Configured service application associations > Click Default to see if the Search Service application is checked.
       2. Change the app pool for the Search Service Application to SharePoint Web Services Default in the properties of the Search Service Application.
Please go to Central Administration > Application Management > Manage service applications > Highlight the Search Service Application > Click Properties in the ribbon > Change
the two app pool to SharePoint Web Services Default: App Pool For Search Admin Web Service and Application Pool for Search Query and Site Settings Web Service.
        3. Run PS command to check if the search admin timer job is enabled: Get-SPTimerJob
job-application-server-admin-service | fl. If it is not enabled, use PS command to enabled it and then reset Internet Information Services: Enable-SPTimerJob job-application-server-admin-service.
    Best regards.
    Thanks
    Victoria Xia

None if these crash reports seem to have been send.
Do you have crash reports with a "bp-" prefix that were submitted and that show a crashing thread?
