Query on Global Rollout  Landscape Strategy

Dear All,
I need some information about Global Rollout.I am working in SAP BASIS.I need to finalize the system landscape. The query is,what would be our approach to implement the global template using solution manager:
1. Separate Implementation at two different sites(Location1 and Location2) with two sets of servers (DEV,QAS & PRD) with common solution manager between both the location where the solution manager will be working as a common server between (DEV1 & DEV2,QAS1 & QAS2,PRD1 & PRD2 respectively),so that the global template package can be transported from Location1 to Location2 by using Solution Manager.
So Total no of servers will be 7 (two sets of DEV,QAS,PRD & 1 solution manager).
2. Implementation with only one set of server (DEV,QAS,PRD) and solution manager at Location1. And only one Production server at Location2 so that the developed global template is common between both the location by solution manager. After developing local components at different clients (for different locations) at DEV,testing at QAS and transporting to PRD1,the global template is transported to PRD2.
So Total no of servers will be only 5 ( one set of DEV,QAS & 2 PRD,one solution manager)
Please guide.I need your help so that can finalize this asap.
Waiting for your reply,
Thanks & Regards,
Sandipan

Hi Sandipan,
Always a pleasure to hear Global Rollout use
First, I will comment on the number of Solution Manager instances.
If there is no particular need for two separate instances of Solution Manager and the different Geographies/ Businesses involved are happy to share 'content' from same Solution Manager instance, you just need one Solution Manager.
With Global Template Rollout based out of one Solution Manager instance, things can be a lot more simpler. For example,
- you don't have to think about 'transporting' templates from source SolMan instance to target SolMan instance to provide periodic updates; they become available 'perpetually' for all Implementation Projects within the single instance
- you don't have to activate 'Change Requests' to capture the structure and content assignments in the project. Often, people find this to be very time consuming
Please go through SAP Note 603336, if you haven't done already. This is very important to read.
As regards the number of DEV, QAS, PRD you must have for Satellite Systems, it's entirely dependent on the way your programme requirements are. I would believe PRD to one, though the other boxes in between could vary as per needs.
As for SolMan, you need to have just one instance running to cover Template Project and all Rollouts based on that.
Best regards,
Srini

  • Re: Transport problem of SAP Query in Global Area

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem in transporting the query which is created in Global area.
I created a Query in Global Area and saved in a Transport Request. Now i created a Transaction code for this query by taking the Program name generated by this Query.
then i released the TR to Quality sys, which contains User Group, Infoset, Query & Transaction code. I see User Group & Infoset in my Quality sys but i dont see th Query & Transaction code assigned to this Query, and when i try to run the transaction code assigned to this query its giving dump saying 'LOAD_PROGRAM_NOT_FOUND'.
Could anyone please help me in resolving this..am i missing any steps here...kindly do the needful...
    Regards,
    Pavan

Hi i solved my problem by myself.
I have to set Query as external available and have to use the MDX Query.
Its strange because if i build a new report the query dont have to be set as external available.

  • Solution Manager Landscape Strategy

    Hi Everyone
Can anyone please point me the document that talks
about Solutiom Manager landscape strategy. Is it recommend to
have Sandbox, Dev/QA/Prod  instance of Solutiom Manager or we just need
one instance and connect all other system.
    Thank you

I will add my two cents...
A three SM landscape strategy works pretty good:
#1 - Sandbox Solman - no satellite system connectivity; open access; used for the purposes of testing patches and exploring solman functionality - mostly for basis' purposes.
#2 - 'Development' Solman - only satellite systems that are NOT on the path to production would be connected here - such as a sandbox.  This solman system would be used for configuration of solman itself [example, your solman team would configure solman functionality here].  It is also a good practice environment for PM's because it would have a small landscape attached to it [your sandboxes, remember]?  Migrations start here for solman functionality...
#3 - 'Production' Solman - ALL path to production satellite systems connected here, except your sandboxes [which were connected to #2 remember?].  This system also serves as a target system for migrations that came from #2 [for solman functionality itself],  This is the main solman box that most users will access for project management, blueprinting, config, charm, and so forth.
This type of landscape satisfies ITIL requirements as changes made to solman itself are migrated from #2 to #3; changes are not made directly in the prod box.
    Hope this helps,
    Jen

  • BW global rollout

    Dear friends,
We are going for BW global rollout and I am facing some problems because of new customizations done in R3 system like for eg : In R3 system they are changing the costcenter from may onwards and in BW the same will reflect in BW but the problem is when they want to get the report from BW for the previous period/year the cost center should reflect the new cost centers but not the old one.
Please suggest me what could be the best solution.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Defining Costcenter as a navigational attribute will take care of your needs. Also take a look at the links in the thread below for modelling scenarios :

  • Aggregate query on global cache group table

    Hi,
I set up two global cache nodes. As we know, global cache group is dynamic.
The cache group can be dynamically loaded by primary key or foreign key as my understanding.
There are three records in oracle cache table, and one record is loaded in node A, and the other two records in node B.
    Oracle:
    1 Java
    2 C
    3 Python
    Node A:
    1 Java
    Node B:
    2 C
    3 Python
If I select count(*) in Node A or Node B, the result respectively is 1 and 2.
    The questions are:
how I can get the real count 3?
Is it reasonable to do this query on global cache group table?
I have one idea that create another read-only node for aggregation query, but it seems weird.
    Thanks very much.

    Nesta

    Do you mean something like
    UPDATE sometable SET somecol = somevalue;
where you are updating all rows (or where you may use a WHERE clause that matches many rows and is not an equality)?
This is not something you can do in one step with a GLOBAL DYNAMIC cache group. If the number of rows that would be affected is small and you know the keys or every row that must be updated then you could simply execute multiple individual updates. If the number of rows is large or you do not know all the ketys in advance then maybe you would adopt the approach of ensuring that all relevant rows are in the local cache grid node already via LOAD CACHE GROUP ... WHERE ... Alternatively, if you do not need Grid functionality you could consider using a single cache with a non-dynamic (explicitly loaded) cache group and just pre-load all the data.
I would not try and use JTA to update rows in multiple grid nodes in one transaction; it will be slow and you would have to know which rows are located in which nodes...

  • HI all ,i am involving into sap hcm om,pa global rollout project for 6 countries.

om pa global rollout project for 6 countries, i have 6 company codes. how can i maintain number ranges for om objects with 6 company codes.
company code1     :  om object number ranges from 1 to 10
company code2     :  om object number ranges from 11 to 20
company code3     :  om object number ranges from 21 to30

co code6                : om object number ranges from 51 to 60
how can i do this configuration.can you plz help me?

    Hi Anand,
Standard SAP doesn't allow to differentiate between organizational numbers at company codes level. I think you would need to build user exit for the same.
SPRO> Personnel Management > Organizational Management > Basic Settings > Maintain Number Ranges > Customer Enhancement (User Exit): Individual Number Assignment
    I hope this information helps.

  • Delete Global Rollout Templates

    Hi there,
after creating a global rollout template (with a couple scenarios in it) we transported it to another solution manager. Due to the fact that we don't need them anymore, we also don't want these scenarios to appear in the project scope tab for new projects.
Does anybody know how to delete such templates, or at least hide them?
    Thx a lot in advance
    Arthur

    Hi Arthur,
Where do you want to delete/hide them - in the target SolMan system, I suppose ?!
Did you try the following approach:
    (1) Go to Template Tab of the project
    (2) Select the Tempate row concerned
    (3) Go to the toggle button below to change it from 'Public' (Green) to 'Private' (Red).
Did you try to rollback the transport ? Not sure if it'll work; I haven't had to do this so far.

  • Landscape Strategy for SM1 & SM2

    Hello all,
I am new to Solution Manager (and SAP in general) so I came here to seek for your opinions.
I have SM1 and SM2 installed in one box.  SM1 serves as our playground (sandbox) and SM2 serves as the semi-prod.
SM1 is in Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 SPS 20 while SM2 is still in Solution Manager 7.0 SPS 16.
Currently, I have 11 other systems as follows:
    - ECC 6.0 (1st and 2nd instances)
    - PI (with SAP NetWeaver 7.1)
    - XI (with Netweaver 04)
    - EP  with NW 7.0 (1st and 2nnd instances)
    - BI with SAP NetWeaver 2004s (1st and 2nnd instances)
    - SRM 7.0 EHP1 SPS 03
    - APO (SCM 5.00)  (1st and 2nd instances)
all 1st instances are treated as dev systems while 2nd instances are treated as semi-prod systems
How can I go about the Landscape stategy for the two? That is, which systems to connect to SM1 and which sdystems to Connect to SM2?
i was thinking of the following concepts:
    1st option:
#1   SM1 (dev't) - only satellite systems that are NOT on the path to production would be connected here - such as a sandbox. This solman system would be used for configuration of solman itself example, your solman team would configure solman functionality here. It is also a good practice environment for PM's because it would have a small landscape attached to it your sandboxes, remember? Migrations start here for solman functionality...
#2   SM2 (semi-prod) - ALL path to production satellite systems are connected here, except your sandboxes which were connected to SM1. This system also serves as a target system for migrations that came from the dev system (SM1) for solman functionality itself. This is the main solman box that most users will access for project management, blueprinting, config, charm, and so forth.
    can this be possible?
    2nd option:
#1   Sandbox Solman - no satellite system connectivity; open access; used for the purposes of testing patches and exploring solman functionality - mostly for basis' purposes.
#2   'Development' Solman - only satellite systems that are NOT on the path to production would be connected here - such as a sandbox. This solman system would be used for configuration of solman itself example, your solman team would configure solman functionality here. It is also a good practice environment for PM's because it would have a small landscape attached to it your sandboxes, remember? Migrations start here for solman functionality...
#3   'Production' Solman - ALL path to production satellite systems connected here, except your sandboxes which were connected to #2 remember?. This system also serves as a target system for migrations that came from #2 for solman functionality itself, This is the main solman box that most users will access for project management, blueprinting, config, charm, and so forth.
for the 2nd option, I will have to install a new SolMan system to have a three landscape.
    please advise.
your insights will be very much appreciated.
    thank you.
    charisse

    Hello Charisse,
I am not sure you are understanding the use of Solution Manager to manage your system landscape.
Typically one Solution Manager will manage the entire system landscape, and systems of all types, PRD, QAS, DEV, SANDBOX, TRAINING, etc.
You can still have DEV and TEST and Sandbox Solution Manager systems, but they would be for those functions, developing, testing, learning and would not be managing your system landscape as that would be the role of a production Solution Manager system, normally.
You should start here - https://websmp207.sap-ag.de/solutionmanager, then also navigate to the "Media Library" where you will find a collection of Presentations, Articles and Brochures, Documentation, Technical Papers and How-To's.
Of course you will find the Knowledge Transfer Ramp-up Kits very helpful - http://service.sap.com/rkt-solman
And also the help library is often quite useful - http://help.sap.com - select the Solution Manager product and then select the applicable version.
You should find these resources quite helpful in determining a strategy for your system landscape and grow your Solution Manager knowledge.

    Paul

I was hoping to get some industry advice.
I have a client who is working on a Global SAP Roll out and I was hoping to find out what interest there is from industry professionals working as SAP Functional Consultants, Project Managers and Management Consultants to work on Global SAP Programmes.

    hi
These are the key factors need to be considered .
1.General configuration has been done for all the plants which you are rolling out.
2.Master data has to be prepared for the each individual plants.
3.If there are some specific requirements for any plant that you need to configure seperatly.
4.Make sure that all the master data preparation follow the parent plants which you are already implemented.
5.Contact the user for the related plants is there any specific requirement to be considered.
6.Configuration issues in the sence its depending on the requirement of the business. If it is already configured its ok other wise we need to configure based on the requirement.
Hope that above points are helpfull.

  • Query regarding global structure

I have a table ZGKMASTER with custid and custnames fields.I need to create a global structure with a component of type custid in SE11.When I tried, strucked with the thinking of what to give in component type,I tried zgkmaster-custid (just a try). But it says component not activated. How to go about this?
    Thanks in advance.

If your structure needs to reflect the exact structure of your table, create a structure like this:
    e.g. Structurename ZGKMASTER_S
    Component   Component Type
    .INCLUDE      ZGKMASTER
That's it, the fields in your structure have exactly the same names as they have in your table.
If you want to create a structure that contains only a few fields of your table, do the following:
    e.g. Structurename ZGKMASTER_S
    Component   Component Type
custid           'Name of data element you are using in your table for that field'
field01          'Name of data element you are using in your table for that field'
field02          'Name of data element you are using in your table for that field'

I recommend you check if OWA has this issue at first to determine whether the issue is related to Outlook side.
