Query to splict a column to multiple columns?

For example, i have a table A:
ID | Date | Value
--- | --------- | --------
1 | 2007-01-02 | 10
2 | 2007-01-02 | -5
3 | 2007-01-03 | -8
4 | 2007-01-04 | 20
How can I query the table into this kind of output:
ID | Date | Positive | Negative
---- | --------- | ------- | -------
1 | 2007-01-02 | 10 |
2 | 2007-01-02 | | -5
3 | 2007-01-03 | | -8
4 | 2007-01-04 | 20 |

Hi,
Try this:
SQL> SET COLSEP '|'
SQL> ed
Wrote file afiedt.buf
  1  WITH TMP_QRY AS (
  2  SELECT 1 ID , '2007-01-02' Dt , 10 VAL  FROM DUAL UNION ALL
  3  SELECT 2 , '2007-01-02' , -5 FROM DUAL UNION ALL
  4  SELECT 3 , '2007-01-03' , -8 FROM DUAL UNION ALL
  5  SELECT 4 , '2007-01-04' , 20 FROM DUAL)
6  SELECT ID, DT, DECODE(SIGN(VAL),1,VAL,0,VAL,NULL) Positive,
  7         DECODE(SIGN(VAL),-1,VAL,NULL) Negative
  8* FROM TMP_QRY
  9  /
        ID|DT        |  POSITIVE|  NEGATIVE
----------|----------|----------|----------
         1|2007-01-02|        10|
         2|2007-01-02|          |        -5
         3|2007-01-03|          |        -8
         4|2007-01-04|        20|

  • Query to add a column in between existing cols of a table?

    HI All,
    I have two questions.
    1. Query to add a column in between existing cols of a table? (not at the end. This is view of an order of output fields in a report)
    2. How do I swap the contents of two columns in a table. Suppose in a table tab there are 2 cols , col1,col2 populated with some data.
I need a query(probably) to swap the col1 and col2 values . NOT AS A RESULT SET, BUT IT NEEDS TO GET CHANGED IN THE TABLE.
    Please help !

    > 1. Query to add a column in between existing cols of
a table? (not at the end. This is view of an order of

Not really sensible ito DBMS - it does not care how you want to view the data. The sequence and formats of columns are what you/the application need to specify in the SQL's projection clause.
Also keep in mind to achieve this, the DBMS will need to rewrite the entire table to fit this new column in-between existing columns. This is not the best of ideas.
The projection of rows is dealt with SQL statements - not with the physical storage implementation.

    This seems to work:
    SQL> create table foo_tab( c1 varchar2(10), c2 varchar2(10) );
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into foo_tab select TO_CHAR(rownum), TO_CHAR(object_id) from user_objects where rownum < 11;
    10 rows created.
    SQL> commit;

  • IF NEW VARIABLE IN SQL QUERY, DISPLAYS AS LAST COLUMN + rpad not working

Hello everybody and thank you in advance,
    1) if I add a new variable to my sql query to select a column which was already in the table, it shows it in the report table as the Last column to the right. That is, if I add "street" to
something like city, postcode, street, store, manager, etc, instead of placing street between postcode and store, it places it as i said as the last column to the right.
    2) When values are entered into the cells of the tables, yes, they do expand it to their needed lenght, But, only if it is one word. If it is two, like when i enter the value "very good"
then it takes two lines so as with a carriage return within the cell, thus, making it too high the row. I tried to padd spaces with rpad but it did not work. something like rpad(stock, 20,' ')
I must say that the table is in the same page where there is a Form, so as the table grows in lenth it is actually squeezing the form located right on its left.
    3) rpad did not work with the most simple syntax, but less would with what i need because it turns out i am using DECODE in order to do a conversion between value displayed and
value returned in my select list of values, something like : DECODE (TO_CHAR (stock),'1','Deficient','2','Average','3','Good','4','Very Good',null) AS stock,
so, i have tried to put the rpad there in several places but either it gave parsing error or it left the column empty not picking any values.
    thank you very much
    Alvaro

    Alvaro
    1) That is standard behaviour of apex builder. You can change the display order with the arrows in the report attributes column report.
    2) You will have to play with the style attributes of the column to accomplice this. For instance style="white-space:pre;" in the Element Attributes of the column attributes. White-space:normal would thread several space (' ') as 1. So no matter how many you add with rpad they will be shown as 1.
Or set a width either as attibute or in a style class for that column.

  • General Query to identify parent columns and child columns in a table

Does anyone know a general query that can be run to identify the child records associated with the parent column within a single table.....and between other tables?
Am I correct in assuming the parent column is the 'primary key'?
Thanks.....I'm a new to oracle...and need some help understanding
    my company's crazy DB structure

    You can use
    User_Constraints
    User_Cons_Columns
views to identify parent and child table columns
    SELECT * FROM User_Constraints WHERE Constraint_Type = 'R' AND Table_Name = '<TABLENAME>';
    SELECT * FROM User_Cons_columns WHERE Constraint_Name = '<Name from Above query>';
will give you columns of the parent table (if you use value from constraint_name) and of child table (if you use value from r_constraint_name).

    Sam,
I would suggest to take APEX out of the picture first and see if you can get this to work directly with your FOP solution, i.e. generate the XML data and take your XSL file and then post it directly to the FOP JSP (or whichever rendering engine you use). If this works, the problem might be somewhere in your APEX configuration. If it doesn't work, then the problem is likely in your XSL or XML structure. Here's how you can setup a static HTML page to post your XML and XSL to FOP:

  • Query between two date columns ?

    Oracle 11g R2
I'm trying too create a query between two date columns. I have a view that consists of many columns. There are two columns in question called valid_to and valid_from
    Part Number     Valid_from        valid_to
    100                    01/01/2000       01/01/9999
    200                    01/01/2000       01/01/9999
    300                    01/01/2000       01/01/9999
    etc
If I want to only see rows between with a date range of 01/01/2000 and 01/01/2013 how can I put this as SQL ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Whenever you have a problem, please post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only), so that the people who want to help you can re-create the problem and test their ideas.
Also post the results you want from that data, and an explanation of how you get those results from that data, with specific examples.
    See the forum FAQ: https://forums.oracle.com/message/9362002
If you want to find rows that have that exact range, then you can do  something like
    SELECT  *
    FROM    table_x
    WHERE   valid_from  = DATE '2000-01-01
    AND     valid_to    = DATE '2013-01-01'
If you want to find rows where any or all or the range on the row overlaps any or all of the 200-2013 target range, then
    SELECT  *
    FROM    table_x
    WHERE   valid_from  <= DATE '2013-01-02
    AND     valid_to    >= DATE '2000-01-01'
If you want rows that are enritely within the target range, it's something else.
If you want rows that entirely enclose the target range, it's something else again.

  • How to edit the properties for existing variables in BEX query, so that I can get multiple input selections

    Dear fellow developers,
I'm trying to edit an existing variable using BEX query, so that it can allow multiple input selections.
As you can see in the screenshot attached, the option is selectable during creation.
However, during editing of an existing field, this field (Details -> Basic Settings -> Variable Represents) is not selectable.
Does anyone knows why, and how to remedy this?

Yes you can do it at the table level.
Go to SE11 enter table name as RSZGLOBV.
Enter the technical name of variable in VNAM field..You need to change the value in VPARSEL column.
Please make sure to get the where used list of this variable so that you can know the impact,if something goes wrong.
Also change it in DEV and then transport across the landscape.
PS:Same thing has been described in this blog as well

  • Query - How to output data to multiple Excel tabs?

    Hello,
I have a quick question. Is it possible to build an ABAP query to send output data to multiple tabs in an Excel spreadsheet? I know this can be done at a single (first) tab level, but I am not sure if outputting data to multiple tabs is possible.
For example, the address data for the different European countries should be directed to different tabs such as U.K., France, Germany, etc based on the country of residence.
I appreciate your help with this.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    I think it is possible
You define a common internal table with the address fields  and  based on the Language condition this table will be populated
call the fun module to donwload to excel in a PERFORM using this Internal table and Language as paramter
so that based on the language selection/condition the internal table will be filled from the data and that data will be passed to the fun module and downloaded to the file name given .
pass the different file names to the fun module along with the PERFORM statement, so that different files will be created based on language

Pallet_ID parameter seems to passing string like 'SGAC2207H0' . Check and change the parameter to pass numbers by checking the assignment to the value column in the parameter. If still need the string to be passed , Try the below expression

Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression."
Can you let me know how I can resolve this issue? it is an urgent request.  Thank you

I was given the existing query and the subquery as they were.  The subquery is as it is returning multiple records on the columns selected.  The person who give me the sub query is sure those are the correct tables to use to develope/change the
    query.
    select
      DISTINCT a.litem,
    b.IPROD,b.idesc,a.lwrkc
    from HCMEUP01.FRDA385A.LBPCSF.LCR
    a, HCMEUP01.FRDA385A.LBPCSF.IIM
    b
    where
    a.litem=b.iprod
    Thank you for your help.

  • Querying an indexed database column. How?

    Hi there,
I am pretty good at CF and okay at SQL.
Over the years I have been informed that when using the same column in a database multiple times to do look-ups....e.g. a primary key field....that it would be best to "index" this column to improve speed.
However, I'm not fully sure what or how to index a database column. I have a few questions:
Is it something to do in MySQL directly? Or can it be done programmatically with CF?
Does it really speed things up a lot?
How is new data entered affected? Does that new data get included into the index?
Does my cfquery syntax have to be any different than is normal?
Any help or advice would be great.
I'm using CF8 and MySQL5 (query browser tools etc)
    Thanks,
    Mikey.

Indexing is a database topic.  As databases can be controled by SQL commands it would most likely be possible to do so inside of a <cfquery...> block, but I would only do that in rare circumstances.
Indexing a table will almost always speed up frequently used database columns.  But when, how and why one would index a database column is a big topic on which entire papers, books and college classes have been developed around.  I would start with some reading of you database documentation an then branch out onto the internet.  You will find much written and should be able to educate yourself easily.
