Question about Standby modes (S1 or S3)

Hi all,
Can somebody explain what S1/POS and S3/STR standby modes are? my system is set at S1/POS and when I press standby everything shuts off except for my case fans and power supply fan.
If i set it to S3 will that turn off everything like I want it?
Also, what is APIC mode ? should i enable it?
Thanks

Well My Bad then , And Thank You For the Heads up Maesus .... The only thing that I was trying to Suggest, is to Stay Away from Choosing the "Stand-By" Mode, that Pops Up When you Initiate a Winows Shut-Down, I say this Because a Number of us Using Higher Performance Memory, along with a Slightly Overclocked FSB, Will Result in the PC Going into an Infinate On-Off Loop, Until you Reset the C-MOSS, I'm Sure those of who this has happened to can Attest that this is one of the Scariest things to Happen to you (As far as the PC is Concerned) As you have NO Control (Even if you hit the Power Button ..On-off-on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off , And this is all it does until you Clear the C-MOS , And I am Sure that this is NOT to Good For either the CPU or the PSU ...............Sean REILLY875

  • Questions about TDM mode on an iMac

    Hi!
I'm thinking about buying 2009-2010 27" iMac, it should replace my home server, display and audio system.
Primarily, I will use it in TDM mode, and have some questions about it.
Firstly, what about sound? iMac receives it over Mini DP, right? And if I'll connect HDMI device to iMac (PS3, looking forward to Xbox One, and MacBook Air over hdmi adapter), sound will be played over desktop's speakers, as it should?
Second, and most interesting part: if connection scheme is MacBook Air->Mini DP to HDMI adapter->HDMI cable->HDMI splitter->HDMI to Mini DP cable->iMac in TDM, everything will work fine?
Also interested about cables. For example, this cable http://dx.com/p/cy-dp-021-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-audio-extender-cable-white-1- 8m-177527 supports up to 1920x1200, but basically, both DP 1.2 and HDMI 1.3b supports 2560x1600. Should I look for another cable or this one will support 2560x1440 resolution?)

Beta software is always a risk. Some beta releases are close to finished status and quite polished and bug-free, while others have significant and often crippling bugs. Not that software in official release may not also have problems, but the entire point of beta releases is to identify bugs prior to an official release, so bugs are much more likely. Sometimes you won't encounter any problems, but other beta software may take your machine down completely; it all depends on what the software is intended to do, how skilled the programmers are, and where in the beta cycle the software may be. A "public preview" release from a major developer such as Microsoft, Apple, or Mozilla is less likely to have major problems, but it's no guarantee.
It's always wise to be very cautious about using any beta software, and to take extra precautions, particularly making backups much more often and preferably not using your main computer, when running any beta software. I would recommend never, repeat never, running beta software on any computer on which you depend on a daily basis for work or critical schoolwork. If you must, make a clone of your entire hard drive to another volume before installing any beta, so you can recover your system in case of major problems.

  • Question about BART - mode of the manifest

    Good Day,
I have looked into the manifest of the bart generated as follows, get confused about the mode(which is permissions), why there is a prefix (3 bits normally, for example 100, 120, 106) before the permissions (such as 755, 600, 777), what are those bits meaning? Appreciate for any help!

Because it works only when testing the file locally. You
    should remove
it before uploading the file to your remote server as it has
    no effect
on the way others see your pages.

  • Question about protection mode in Stdby env.

    Hi,
In a standby environment, can we have primary database working in two protection mode simultaneously.
e.g. There are 2 standby databases for a primary database. One is situated in another city (Stdby_A) connected via a slow link and another is in the same data center connected via 1Gbps link (Stdby_B).
Can we have primary database working in Maximum Performance mode for 'Stdby_A; and in maximum protection mode for 'Stdby_B'.
    Thanks
    Amit.

    thanks,
what could be the best possible solution in above scenario.

  • A question about bridge mode

I have a DSL modem which is set to distribute IP addresses. Wireless network is off.
A Time Capsule (connected to DSL modem by Ethernet) which is in bridge mode and creates the wireless network.
Question: should I be able to connect to Internet through a Ethernet connection at the Time Capsule?
    thanks
    Ken

I would first verify that the Time Capsule is setup as a bridge as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
If all appears to be well, try connecting the ethernet cable from your gateway to one of the other ports on the Time Capsule. In other words, if you have it connected to the WAN port (circle icon) now, connect to one of the other three LAN <-> ports.
Truth be known, when the Time Capsule is setup in bridge mode, all the ports behave the same. It does not matter which you use. If the WAN port has taken a hit from a nearby lightning strike or a power surge, the other 3 ports may still be operational.
    Any luck?

  • Questions about Airplane Mode

    I have 3 questions.
    1. When airplane mode is enabled, does the phone still ring for the caller? Does the phone ring at all when I have it?
    2. Can I still accept Text messages? Or can I send out messages?
    3. Can I enable Wifi and go on certain apps that need Wifi? Such as a chat App?
    Thanks.
Post relates to: Pre Plus p101vzw (Verizon)
    This question was solved.

1, 2. Airplane mode disables all radios. You can't make or receive calls or messages.
    3. You can enable WiFi. Any apps that need WiFi should still work.

  • Question about blend modes

I have a video clip of a guy in front of a white screen (originally it was a green screen but I replaced the background with a white wall). I want to add a graphic behind him and I am not sure which blend mode to use. The graphic is also based on a white background. Would it be easier if I just had an alpha channel? Can you even export a video clip out of FCP with an alpha channel?

But if you're keying in FCP, why not create the Motion project with the proper aspect ratio, or adjust it once you bring it into FCP?
You're not gonna get there with blend modes...

  • Question about C99 mode? ( C )

I get error when I try to compile the following program:
    #include <stdio.h>
    int main (){
    for (int k = 1;k<10;k++){
    printf("hi");
    return 0;
    it says
error: 'for' loop initial declaration used outside C99 mode.
Is there a way to change the default mode to allow this ?
    Thanks
    ( always in C , not C++ )

Xcode has the build setting C Language Dialect, which is part of the Language collection, that you can set to use the C99 standard. If you're running Xcode 2.1 or later, you can use a configuration settings file that sets the dialect to C99 for all projects that use the settings file. The setting name for the settings file is GCCC_LANGUAGESTANDARD.

  • Standby mode is different?

I have been reading the numerous post about standby mode. My 8900 standby mode operates different. When i put the bb in to standby and put it in my pocket it works great, that is until a message or call is recieved. At that point the bb comes out of standby and if i do not acknowledge the message and leave it in my pocket buttons get pushed and accidental calls are placed. Any suggestions.

  • Standby Mode - Use it or not

Do you guys put your ATV in standby mode (Play/Pause button for 6 seconds) when you're not using it, or do you just let it run?
I did not know about standby mode so I've been letting it run in the background and just watching other sources.

Presumably, there is less power demanded when you are in "standby" mode - if you just switch to another source then it'll just be cycling through the screen saver over and over. If there is any power differential, and since it's a super fast "wake up", then you're better off (and will save $$$) by doing the 6 second standby.
Does anyone know if there is a power differential between the two modes?

  • Disable camera standby mode in nokia n95

    Hello
I cannot record a video over 1 hour with my n95, or so it would seem. So I would like to use my phone as a "video source" for my TV-card, so I could just plug my phone into my TV-card and use that card to do the actual recording. But every time I do this, my phone informs me about standby mode being initialized after one minute of "projecting the video to my TV-card". How can I disable this message?

    Thanks haZey for your response.
Well, the time-out has a max limit of 20 seconds and I've already set that to the max limit, but the issue still exists.
I understand that the only  way is to press a button now to see the screensaver (time), but this is not what I want I had a very basic earlier model and it didn't have that issue.
I am sure there should be a way, even hidden or via some changes in the firmware that can allow me to disable the automatic power-save. I can't believe this is a hopeless case, this is a very basic request.
Pleaseeeeeeeeeee help me, I might stop using that phone with all its other nice features just because of this issue.
Thanks for your time and support in advance.

  • 2 questions about SmartWare (password protection, resume after standby)..

Hi guys, 2 quick questions about the SmartWare utility. I have searched for previous answers, but couldn't find any. Might be that I uses the wrong search terms though, so sorry in advance if this had been asked (and aswered) before. When I create a backup, it is being stored file-by-file in the "SmartWare" folder on the NAS. Since the SmartWare folder is public, all users with access to the drive can access this folder. Ultimately this means that ALL users of the drive can access the backup files of ANY user. If someone performs a full backup, this means that anyone has access to ALL the data of that person. I could't find any option in SmartWare to password-protect backups or something. From a security point of view, I would consider this as a worst-case scenario. Even worse is that there is no mentioning of this in the user's manual. Am I missing something here? Is there a way to protect backups against access by any other user? If this is really not possible, I would consider this application to be pretty much useless, to say the least. "Dangerous" would be a better description... My 2nd question is only relevant if there's a solution for the first one, because else I would't use this tool anyway: Does it automatically resume a backup if the machine is put to standby or hibernation mode during a backup operation, or will it restart from the start, or will the backup be interrupted (and thus useless)? Many thanks in advance!

One can create a Private Share on the WD My Cloud, configure it so only one user has access (password protected), then one can configure the SmartWare software to backup to that private share folder. One changes the backup location in the SmartWare program by selecting the dropdown selector box below the "WD My Cloud" on the Smartware "Home" screen. The Smartware User Manual explains this process under Chapter 5, Backing up Files, step 2, substep c. Smartware should resume the backup when ever it is interrupted. Here is how it is explained in the Smartware User Manual:Note: Backup protection is automatic for as long as the backup source and target devices are connected to your computer. Then, whenever you disconnect and reconnect either device, the WD SmartWare software rescans the backup source device for new or changed files and resumes automatic backup protection.

  • Basic questions about connection sharing and radio mode

I just got TC and have a couple of basic questions.
At home I have a D-Link ADSL modem/router (no wifi) plugged into the wall, and would like TC to provide wifi. I've connected the WAN port to some LAN port of the router and everything works fine. The intented usage of the setup is wifi-only. Would you recommend TC to do DHCP/NAT? Or is Bridge mode better? In the latter case I don't fully understand who's routing the wifi network (though it actually works).
Second question is about radio mode. My wife has an iBook G4 that is not capable of talking 801.11n, so I selected the n mode compatible with b/g. In that mode my black MacBook will still be able to talk 801.11n with TC? The iBook has very low usage, it is fine that computer uses 801.11g for TC, but I'd like the MacBook to go full-speed. (If that's not possible I'd ponder purchasing an 801.11n adaptor of some sort for the iBook.)

Would you recommend TC to do DHCP/NAT? Or is Bridge mode better?
    It doesn't matter.
In the latter case I don't fully understand who's routing the wifi network (though it actually works).
    The D-Link modem/router.
In that mode my black MacBook will still be able to talk 801.11n with TC?
Yes. It will only suffer lower bandwidth if the iBook G4 is actively connected.

  • Question about full cycle charges and battery life

So I've had the new iPad since day 1 and absolutely love it, though recently I've noticed that my battery life doesn't seem to hold up as well as it has in the past. I've done three full cycle charges since getting it however during my latest one I accidently brought along my iPod wall charger and not the one that comes with the iPad. My iPad was fully discharged and I plugged it in assuming that in the 7 hour window I had that it would be fully charged within 5 hours, but this was not the case due to me having the wrong charger. After about 7 hrs of charging it was only at around 60-70% so I had to unplug it, bring it home, then plug it in once more using the correct charger. Probably a fairly obvious question but does this not count as a full cycle charge because I unplugged it? Should I perform another full cycle charge even though this most recent one was not even a week ago. I know you're supposed to completely discharge your battery as few times as possible so it worries me having to do it again so soon.
About battery life, I've noticed lately that my iPad battery seems to be depleting quicker than normal, and was hoping that perhaps this was caused by being overdue for a full-cycle charge which I may have flubbed as seen above. I'm aware of a majority of the little tips and tricks to prolong battery life however I'm not so knowledgeable on the "do's and don'ts" of charging the actual iPad so any information on that would be helpful. I should also note that unfortunately I accidently left by iPad in a hot car for a little over an hour and was tremendously devastated knowing what this can do to the battery, so could this be the main cause for a seemingly weaker battery?
    Thanks for any feedback!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • EBS 12.1.3: a few questions about cloning

    Hi,
We have EBS 12.1.3 on AIX 7.1.
A few questions about cloning from shared application tier environment to non-shared application tier environment. We have been following "Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone [ID 406982.1]"
    Source environment (shared app tier):
    - Two active application nodes and LB
    - One active database and one passive database setup with Oracle Data Guard.
    - SSL termination at the load balancer
    - PCP implemented
    Target environment (non-shared app tier):
    - One active application node
    - One active database node
    - No SSL
    - No PCP
After the cloning was completed we noticed the following problems in the target system:
    1) Home page cannot be accessed as application tier $CONTEXT_FILE still contains "https" and ssl termination settings.
    Workaround:
Modify (with text editor) Application Tier $CONTEXT_FILE as follows.
    <webentryurlprotocol oa_var="s_webentryurlprotocol" customized="yes">http</webentryurlprotocol>
    <sslterminator oa_var="s_enable_sslterminator">#</sslterminator>
    <login_page oa_var="s_login_page" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin</login_page>
    <externURL oa_var="s_external_url" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000</externURL>
Run AutoConfig and start application tier.
Is there a better and supported solution for this?
    2) Concurrent managers do not work correctly as they have still old node names (used in PCP in the source system). Workaround used:
    1. Logon to EBS web GUI and remove all nodes from all concurrent managers.
    2. Shutdown application tier. Verify that all concurrent managers have been shutdown. If not, kill the processes manually
    3. As apps user run cmclean.sql
    4. Restart application tier
Is there a better solution for this?
    3) Database changes from ARCHIVELOG mode to nonarchivelog mode in the target system. Is there anyway to prevent this?
    4) Also, we would like to perform a full clone (app + db tiers) from production without shutting down the application. Is this possible? What would be the best documents to describe this? In Production, we have Oracle Data Guard setup with physical standby as per "Oracle Tech Note: Business Continuity for Oracle E-Business Release 12 Using Oracle 11g Physical Standby Database [ID 1070033.1]". This can be used when performing a hot clone for the database, right? What about the application tier? Steps described in 406982.1 include running AutoConfig in which application tier should be down. Does the application need to be down when running "Maintain Snapshot Information"?
    5) One final question (not related to cloning). Oracle Enterprise Manager console webUI has recently stopped working in IE8. E.g. https://myhost.mydomain.com:5501/em gives "Page cannot be displayed". This was working correctly last week. In Firefox, the same link is working fine. Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for your answers in advance.

If it is working from one browser, then it should not be an EM issue. Have you tried from a different client and see if this works? Have you changed any setting in your IE browser? Please make sure you add the EM URL to the trusted sites list.
    Thanks,
