Question on FB3 Help System

I'm just wondering if I have the wrong FB3 help system
installed or if the FB3 help system is in fact erroneous in its
first few pages.
When I open the Help System contents and expand the Workbench
Guide, it mentiones the "Java Perspective". My FB3 does not seem to
have that perspective.
Also, the help system mentions the Window - Open Perspective
menu item, but I have Window - Perspective menu item from which to
select perspectives.
Also, the help system mentions a Window - Show View menu
item, but I have Window - Other Views menu item.
I know I'm being picky, but I just wanted to check with
others who have FB3 installed to check what you are seeing.
Thanks very much in advance.

no.. RMS is persistent data storage in J2ME..
once you saved your data there.it will still exists until you delete that data or you remove your application from your phone, as long as your application still in your mobile phone, your RMS still there too...
Hope it helps.. :-)

  • Filtering Help system view by business questions

My client wants to use RoboHelp to create a help system that
covers ten web-based applications in one suite of products. The
products are used by different roles on a commodities trading
floor. The same person might use more than one of the applications
for different purposes. My client wants the usual Help TOC as one
avenue into the content. But in addition, my client wants to
provide a different path into the content. For this second path, he
wants entry into the Help system to be a series of business
questions (such as "What are you trying to do?" Possible answer:
"make a trade"). Then, on the basis of the answers, he wants to
display only a subset of the help topics. Just the ones that are
relevant, based on the answers to those questions. In other words,
a filtered view of the help system. Is this possible? Any advice
    would be appreciated.

In our 2.5K-topic merged WebHelp project, we've implemented a
series of navigation pages similar to what Rick suggests.
Whereas the TOC is categorized by major features, the opening
page provides links to pages for User Roles, Functional Tasks,
Major Components, Menu Help (split between Client and System
Administration), and Reference. (I used a free
    tooltip
utility from Walter Zorn to provide a hover "peek" before they
click to jump to a link.)
Each category within these pages has a list of the most
commonly used topics. Therefore an "Operations & Technology"
user would be provided lists of topics dealing with his normal
duties such as Batch Processing, Imports/Exports, XML Messaging,
    etc.
Another method might be working with the developers to tie in
privileging to apply to the help as well as the application
features. You could "map" topics by using folders and/or topic
keys, such as leading "sa_" for system admin, "bp_" for batch
    processing, etc.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • RoboHelp Server 7 Help System Errors

Whenever I publish my RH 7 Help project to server, I check
the RoboHelp Server Web Administrator for errors. I always get Help
System Error "Requested file cannot be found" for a file called
bsscfp.txt. To my knowledge, this is a control file generated
during the publishing process. If this is the case why is an error
being generated for a file I have no control over? Also, I find the
Troubleshooting section of RoboHelp Server Web Administrator to be
rather useless in correcting issues. Is there any reference
documentation that explains some of the cryptic error messages that
appear in the Server Web Administrator screen?

Hi, ouque and welcome to the forum.
Just to clarify your setup. When you say "Project pane" are
you referring to the Configuration Manager on the server itself.
Or, are you referring to something you are seeing from the RoboHelp
authoring client app's Server Administration pane?
If you have access to the actual server desktop and view the
Configuration Manager, sometimes on a new installation, you can do
a "refresh" and the project will show up.
    A few more questions:
Have you tried accessing the website and does the project
come up in the web browser?
On what kind of web server did you install RHS7? Windows
    2003, etc.?
Is Microsoft Indexing Services turned on?
Apparently you were able to successfully publish your project
to the server so there is "communication" between your desktop and
    the server I gather.
A few more details and we'll try to help.
    Thanx,
    john

  • Creating "help" systems for users (not other LV programmers) - where to start?

How should one approach giving users a built-in "Help" system?  Users, that is, of a distributed application written in LabVIEW.
These users ideally would have no way of knowing the application was written in LabVIEW.  To them, this application is just another program.  The way the LabVIEW Help system works would be fine, but all the content would be inappropriate.
From the docs I see we can write "Descriptions" that show up in context-sensitive help when the user puts the mouse over a control, and a "Tip" that shows up when the context-sensitive help isn't even enabled.  Are these typically the only help features built into a distributed application?
In the LabVIEW Help there is an article called "Development Process Tips" discussing creating web pages that document the VIs that you create, and another article called "Linking VIs to HTML Files or Compiled Help Files.  Another discusses Creating Compiled Help Files, but refers to third-party software for doing this.  Is this a typical approach for doing a nice job of providing help?
Or is there some other way to create a Help system that works like the existing LabVIEW help but has content we create?

    Hello,
Let me take your questions in order:
    Q. How should one approach giving users a built-in "Help" system?
    A. Here's one approach I have used:
a). Give all front panel controls and indicators a description so that the context help will show information for those front panel objects, and also for relevant front panel objects a tip - this will pop-up when the user hovers over the object, and can be annoying if it's used excessively, but nice if used where appropriate.
b). Create html files, one for each "Page" of your user interface, and place a Help button on your user interface which will launch the corresponding document for that "Page."  I'm not sure what your UI is like, but basically if there are multiple front panels the user will see, a page describing each object on that panel, and the panel's purpose is nice.  If you're using a tab control in any of those panels, then a page for each tab is nice as well.
A variation of b). is to use a so-called compiled help file - a .chm file.  These are only relevant for Windows machines, so if you plan to deploy across multiple OSs, then this is out.  The reason documentation suggests you need a third party tool is because those .chm files basically collect a set of html files together into a nice document, with the usual search, index, browse etc. capabilites and we don't have a product which does this.  The LabVIEW Help on Windows is a nice example of a .chm file.  You can do something SIMILAR with just HTML and javascript, creating at least a contents page which has organized links to the rest of the pages (which themselves can contain links back to the contents page), and even include the ability to search keywords etc.  You'll find various free examples of such html and javascript on the web.
Once you have your html or compile help file, you can use the LabVIEW Help VIs to launch them.  For chm files you can open the file and direct to a particular page of the chm file, and for html files all you really need to do is launch the relevant html file in the browser of your choice.
    Q. In reference to descriptions and tips for controls/indicators: "Are these typically the only help features built into a distributed application?"
    A. No, the html or chm idea is a nice touch, and can add a professional feel to the application.
    Q. In reference to html or chm files: "Is this a typical approach for doing a nice job of providing help?"
    A. Yes, it is used internally as a standard - chm for windows and html for linux and MAC.
    Q. "Or is there some other way to create a Help system that works like the existing LabVIEW help but has content we create?"
    A. One ideas is that you could implement your help entirely in LabVIEW if you'd like.  Basically you would be launching your own VI or VIs which would show whatever documentation you wanted/created.  You could use a tree structure or something to provide some convenient navigation by topic, and even a search - you would be coding this, and although I haven't done it, it seems like it would be pretty easy to do.
I hope this helps, and happy LabVIEW programming!

  • Help system like in Windows 2007

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if Robohelp can create a Help System like
that comes with new Windows 2007 (Beta) ? If so, what format is
    that ?
    Thanks
    Maxx

    The
    Assistance
Platform help system, and related technologies like
    MAML
    are currently not publically available.
As far as I am aware, compiled help advice is to continue
    with HTMLHelp.
This obviously introduces questions about how best to do this
so that switching to MAML is as painless as possible. Some of this
can be done by the HAT but some will also be defined by how well
structured our information is within our current systems.

  • Help system in Microsoft Access.

Been asked to create a help system for a program created in microsoft access.  I have very basic skills...in my second month of a dip of software development so only covered html, javascript etc.
I have chosen the program html help workshop to create, and understand that I have to use html to create the documents, and i have to create paths etc but have no idea how to string it all together?
Anyone able to help me out here!

    Hi, RoisinMurphy.
You have asked this question on the Microsoft Learning and Certification forum. There are much better forums available and I have included a bunch of resources including more appropriate forums at the end of this post for you. Let me see if I can get you
started down the right path to creating some tech docs.
I see that you have downloaded (or soon will have downloaded) and installed the Microsoft HTML Help Workshop 1.4 that is available for download here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms669985(v=vs.85).aspx
There are three (3) files available for download. You only need two (2) of them (Htmlhelp.exe and
HelpDocs.zip). The HtmlHelpj.exe file is the Japanese version and I am assuming you won't be using that.
After downloading the two (2) files, you will need to unblock each of them. To do this, right-click the
Htmlhelp.exe file and click Properties. Click the
Unblock button and then click OK. Repeat this process with the other file,
HelpDocs.zip. It is important that you do this before you extract the files inside so the Windows operating system (OS) will trust the files.
After unblocking it, right-click the HelpDocs.zip file and click Extract All... to extract the .chm help files to a nearby folder.
You can install the application by running the Htmlhelp.exe installer. It will tell you that it is v1.3 and that newer files may already exist on the target system - that is just fine! After installing it, you can launch it from the
    Start menu.
There is a lot of documentation and access to help professionals available online! Here are some sites that I found:
Here is the main HTML Help 1.4 documentation:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms670169(v=vs.85).aspx
Here is the Microsoft Help MVP Program (may not be that helpful!):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/ms669981.aspx
Here is a list of Help MVPs with links to other Html Help support sites:
    http://www.helpmvp.com/
    Here is the MSHelpWiki:
    http://mshelpwiki.helpmvp.com/helpbasics
I believe the main help files that you extracted (htmlhelp.chm, etc.) and the HTML Help 1.4 documentation will have enough information to get you started.
    Good luck!
    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson

  • Question on search help

    hello,
I have create a search help in KRED. I have a field LIFN2 which is the "reference to other vendor field" in my help. when I go to the MIRO transaction and goto the details tab and click in the field "inv.party", the search appears. the problem that I am having is that when I double clik on one the records in the search list, it is supposed to fill in the vendor number with the LIFN2 value but it is not. I have this selected for import and export in the search help. I am not sure if there is something else that I have to do. If some one could please help me , that would be apporeciated
thanks in advance for the help

    thanks for the respopnses
I have the EXP checked for this field. when I active the search help, I get warnings and when you click on this warning
<b>No values can be returned from contained search help ZVENDORS_PARTN </b>

  • Unhelpful help system

This help system is not very helpful.  It is confusing to navigate and has no instructions about how to generate a response, or even how to post a question.

I'm not sure which help system you mean. Does EXPORT PDF have a specific help system? Unless you mean the forum itself, which isn't really a help system in the conventional way. Can you be more specific? It would be helpful, if it is on the web, for you to give us the "start page" - the first page you find yourself, so we can see what you see.

  • Translation Tips for .CHM Help Systems?

    RH8, parent/multiple-children.
My company is looking to expand overseas, and part of this will eventually include translating the help. As part of this "internationalization" project, I've been tasked with determining what to expect for how our help system will be translated.
Currently, our help is a 20-odd collection of CHM files, one parent and the rest children. We are also in the process of using these same projects to develop a WebHelp version of our Help to place on our company site.
I believe at the moment we are planning to use Multilizer in translating both our application screens as well as the Help, and I"m aware of a interface plug-in for Multilizer to extract the text out of RH projects. However, I've been specifically tasked to find generic advice/suggestions/etc. as if we're not using Multilizer.
In other words, I need to assume we're not using it and need to know what we might need to make our Help "generically" ready for translation, if such a thing exists. Sorry for being such an open-ended question, but that's what I'm tasked with.
Personally, my main question is - how are multiple languages handled for projects? Do I need to duplicate each project by language - i.e. EnglishParent, SpanishParent, EnglishChild1, GermanChild1, etc.? Or do I retain a single project and add some indicator of what language I'm using when I build the .chm files?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff.
We are only just starting down this line ourselves and in a more limited way than you. Only one of our merged child projects will be translated thus far. From our perspective we chose to maintain all the topics in the same project. You may decide to maintain a different project. I think the decision here is based on the usability for your authors as either way can work.
We use the RH language settings to control topic spelling / grammer inside the same project. You can add conditional build tags to filter out topics from the output. The only issue here is TOC / Index files. You'd probably want to have separate files for each language if in the same project and these take the default project language - i.e. you can't override to use a different language. This in itself is not such a big issue if you are sure your fingers do what they're told!
If you adopt the single project approach I'd recommend using folders for the different languages. It makes things a whole lot easier to manage. However as your translating everything I'd certainly look at the separate project approach.

  • Choosing the Appropriate Help system

    Hi-
I am trying to convert my Framemaker files (book actually)
into on-line help and I have a few questions.
1.) I should be able to import my whole book into Robohelp
once I select the appropriate help system. Is this correct?
2.) How do I know which Help system to choose? Which are
better? I am trying to construct a help system which we can put on
the customer's server along with our web based application. Does
this mean that I should be using WebHelp Pro? Does this cause
further problems for the customer (re: do they have to have a
    certain server?
    Thanks,
    Ingrid

    Hi Ingrid.
Your server will more than likely already have either Apache
or IIS on it depending on it's configuration but you do not need to
bother with this if you use Webhelp output. You just use RH ro
produce the files which are placed on the server. It is only if you
use the RH Server product to produce Webhelp Pro output do you need
    to have IIS installed.
When you produce your webhelp output there are two steps. The
first step allows you to generate the output (normally to a local
directory) where it can be checked and tested. The second step is
to publish the output to the required location (in your case the
server). Both of these steps can be performed through the
properties of your WebHelp single source layout. This defines the
characteristics of your webhelp output as well as the physical
locations used for the generation and publishing.
As far as RH books go, there isn't a lot around. You don't
say which version of RH you are using but in case you are on RH7
don't be fooled by a book on Amazon which is actually for a very
old version of RH. These forums are actually an excellent source of
information as are the following sites:
    Robowizard
    Peter Grainge
You could also look through the tutorials on the Adobe
website and even just mess around with a blank project. The UI is
really very intuitive. Finally don't feel afraid to ask questions
here. You bound to get a response quickly from one of the RH users
who have a wealth of experience between them.

  • Using RHelp 9 - Compiled Help system missing book images on left pane? Any ideas on how to correct?

Using RHelp 9 - Compiled Help system missing book images on left pane? Any ideas on how to correct?

    Hi there
Colum seems to be making an assumption that you are producing Microsoft HTML Help, as the option he mentions only applies to the world of compiled CHM files.
But this question was posted in the WebHelp forum category, so one might assume that you are producing WebHelp output.
So the question we ask here is this:
What *IS* the output type you are creating? WebHelp? Microsoft HTML Help? FlashHelp?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Need to develop a help system

I need to develop a help system for a Client-Server Oracle Form Application.
Can any one suggest any good packages to develop Help system?
Does any one tried Oracle Help for Java (OHJ)?
Please let me know your recommendations and opinions, thanks.

    Two methods.
One generate a HTML file and use the Web.Show_Document to display the help file.
Two use shareware like 'Help Workshop' which can be found at www.cnet.com.

If you can't sign in, then you can't troubleshoot and/or pair the keyboard until after that........ so, for that, you will need to borrow someone's USB wired keyboard in order to get signed in and to the Keyboard Bluetooth Preferences.

  • Why does reindex documents at Server in the Configuration Manager break the help system?

    Background:
So, I have a nice hosted help system on Server 9. I'm using the Access database since it's a light load project. It works OK. All admin features work OK (except groups and users bug, unrelated), including reports on search and usage. So, I have been having a devil of a time making a particular search term work in my project: UTS. It's an acronym for a system at my work, and it's important that users be able to search on it. UTS is in several Heading 1s. It's not in the stop list as a typo. Just to be sure, I deleted the whole stop list. I added "UTS" as a topic keyword. It still refuses to find any results. Also, I've noticed some other peculiarities with search: the "context" displayed below the search result is supposed to show the word you searched for in its context, but it never does in my search results. It just shows the first words of the document it's listed as a hit in search. The search is not bad, but these two bugs were odd enough to me to start rooting around for solutions.
So, I run Server 9 on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Tomcat 7 and JDK 7u17.
    The problem:
I noticed in all the Server documentation that Adobe crows about the wonderful full text search powered by Lucene, and how it's checked "on" by default in all contexts. It's not in mine. When I check "reindex documents at server," it breaks the project. Literally--Server can't find the project anymore, web calls come back with no answer. Uncheck the box, A-OK. So, why is this wonderful search technology not available to me? Is it because it's not available when using default Access? Or is something else going on here?
    many thanks in advance.

The problem is that my data collection software (VisualPlant by EMT) is unable to browse to the National Instruments.LookoutOPCServer. When I added an Identification category to the registry entry for the lookout OPC server I was able to connect but with some odd behavior. My setup is:
2 machines each running Win NT4 SP6a. One machine is running Lookout as well as several other OPC servers. The other is running my data collection software. I am able to connect to lookout using several client apps on my data collection machine (Kepware's Quick Client, and Matrikon's Client), however my data collection software (VisualPlant) cannot see Lookout. Using the NI server explorer and viewing the properties of all of my OPC servers I noticed that Lookout was the on
ly one listed that did not have a CatID. By modifying the registry and adding the ID's listed in my original note I was able to connect using VisualPlant, however this exibited some odd behavior. It appears that adding this setting prevents multiple OPC connections to Lookout. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks.
