Question on MS Project scheduling

Hi, I have a fundamental question. Here's an example of what I am trying to do.
Defined the tasks, dependencies and duration. Now I am defining the same resource against all the tasks. So when I define the resource against task c (project 2), it moves the start date for task 3 (project
1). I DO NOT want this happen. In order to avoid this, I am having to create a dependency between the Project 1 and Project 2 task (when there's no technical dependency really) i.e. make task c (of project 2) successor of task 3 (of project 1) otherwise task
3 of project 1 gets scheduled after task c of project 2. But I should not have to create this dependency as I am assigning the resource top down so MSP should really move the starting dates of the subsequent tasks. It's easily working with 6 tasks and 1 resource
but not with 100s of tasks & multiple resources.

No, sorry. Unless Project1 is truly a separate project and you are working with consolidated master projects, the summary task does not roll down to the subtasks. However, you can insert the Priority field in a task view and copy/paste or fill
down to apply the higher priority (higher number) to the Project 1 tasks. (I realize in re-reading my reply to you above, that I incorrectly said to set a higher priority on Project 2 - the tasks you want to move through leveling should have a lower priority).

Anyone can reproduce this steps on Project Server 2013:
* Upload document to project site document library
* Open project plan for editing in pwa, add to any task related item – uploaded in previous step document
* Save and publish project
Than check in project schedule and project center – icon associated document to task and project.

When I click Schedule after PWA Settings > Project Details Page, there comes the error.
I can download the Schedule Page. But I don't see where to change, because the wrong URL doesn't apper at the page.

Have you tried this?
Navigate to the schedule PDP, in the browser address bar, append the string
?Contents=1, like thus:
https://<your PWA Address>/Project%20Detail%20Pages/Schedule.aspx?Contents=1
This will open the Webpart Maintenance page. Now, select the Details
webpart, and Delete it. Once done, navigate bacjk to the webpart page, edit page, and re-add the Details Webpart to the page.
This should fix your issue.

Edit custom task fields in Project Schedule

Is it possible to edit custom fields for a task in the project schedule in PWA?
At this moment we are getting a message that we have to use Project Professional to make this change.

Which version of Project Server are you using? What kind of custom field is it?
In short, yes it is posisble to edit custom fields for task via PWA (2010, 2013), as long as it is NOT a formula driven field.

Question about dependent projects (and their libraries) in 11g-Oracle team?

Hello everyone,
I have a question about dependent projects. An example:
In JDeveloper 10.1.3.x if you had for instance 2 projects (in a workspace): project 1 has one project library (for instance a log4j library) and project 2 is a very simple webapplication which is dependent on project 1. Project 2 has one class which makes use of log4j.
This compiles fine, you can run project 2 in oc4j, and the libraries of project 1 (log4j) are added on the classpath and everything works fine. This is great for rapid testing as well as keeping management of libraries to a minimum (only one project where you would update a library e.g.)
However in 11g this approach seems not to work at all anymore now that weblogic is used, not even when 'export library' is checked in project 1. The library is simply never exported at all - with a noclassdeffound error as result. Is this approach still possible (without having to define multiple deployment profiles), or is this a bug?

I've tried what you said, indeed in that .beabuild.txt when 'deploy by default' is checked it adds a line like: C:/JDeveloper/mywork/test2/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar = test2-view-webapp/WEB-INF/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar
Which looks fine, except that /web-inf/lib/ is empty. I presume its a sort of mapping to say: Load it like it in WEB-INF/lib? This line is not there when the deploy by default is not checked.
I modified the TestBean as follows (the method that references Log4j does it thru a Class.forName() now only):

The only thing from me is that container-descriptor tag, the rest is added to it during the deployment. Unfortunately, it still produces the same error. :/ Any clue?

Generate Alerts for Task changes in Project Schedule

Hi,
I would like to generate alerts to all the Project resources when a Task has been revised in Project Schedule. Does MS Project Server 2010 provides this functionality OOTB?
If this not available OOTB, I am planning to write an event handler to generate alerts for Task updates. Would an en event handler for Task level changes impact performance of server?.

Question related to project performance management

Hi,
We have implemented peoject management and project accounting module with Grants module for one of the semi public sector client. Now we are planning to enable project performance repporting.
I assume below things
1. If Grant is implemented, Project budgeting doesn't work
And
2. project performance reporting based on project accounting,project budgeting and project management modules.
If anyone of you have done similar requirement , Please let us know the approach your approach.

milestones.

Hi Taj,
You could for example have a project Enterprise custom field (so it can be displayed as a graphical indicator in the Project Center views) that gives the % of complete milestones versus total number of milestones. Depending on the % value, you could disply
a green/yellow/red indicator.
For sure there is a simpler way to do that but here is what I found:
Create a task field (using
this method) that returns 1 for every milestone
Create another task field that returns 1 for every complete milestone
Create a project field that calculate the % based on the 2 above fields
Note also that MS Project 2013 proposed a milestone report in the new report feature.
Be aware that this type of indicator (like milestones trend analysis) DO NOT give any relevant information about project completion but only about milestones completion. I mean that a single milestone can require a huge amount of work whereas another one
could just be a 1h work document writing.

DRAFT project schedule - who can SEE it?

If I create a draft project schedule and have
not published it, can another user access it later to edit the draft (when the file is checked in and I do not have it checked out)?
We have a team of users building a project schedule, and are trying to understand who exactly can access a draft that has never been published.

Project is check out to some one else or cache is creating issue.
To remove project from Local Cache, please do the following steps:
Launch Project Professional 2010 by connecting to MS Project Server account
File menu -> Options -> Save -> Cache
System will display the Clean Up Cache dialog box with following filters.
Projects not checked out to you
Projects checked out to you
Projects not checked out to you option:
Select the "Projects not checked out you" filter from dropdown
Highlight the project and click on "Remove from Cache"
System deletes the project from local cache
Projects checked out to you option:
Select the "Projects checked out by you" filter from dropdown
Highlight the project and click on "Remove from Cache"
System prompts the following warning message to get the confirmation from you regarding whether you saved the project that checked out by you
If you are absolutely sure that you already saved the changes already, click "Yes" to delete the project from cache.
If you are not sure about the latest changes whether you saved, in that case please click "No" button and close the Clean Up Cache dialog box and return to MS Project Pro to save the change.
If caching related issue appears to persists after having followed the steps above, consider deleting your cache folder through the file explorer. Here is how:
Launch Project Professional 2010 by connecting to MS Project Server account
File menu -> Options -> Save -> Cache
Locate the "Cache location" text box and click on "Browse..." button next to it
Open the folder you want to delete and make sure there is no project file you need inside
Right click on the cache folder you want to delete, and select delete, click on YES
Repeat as needed if you have more than 1 folder
Close the windows
Exit Project Professional
Also from Force check in PWA check for the project and do check in. once you perform all of the above then you will not see error message.
