Question on query causing timeouts and CXpacket

Hello,
I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 SE with 24 processors as shown below:
This is a standalone non clustered server. The MAXDOP setting is 8 as shown below:
These settings have been the same for more than an year. But since last week I am noticing that query is taking longer time to execute and complaining on 94% wait time is on CXPACKET. Does this necessarily mean the MAXDOP setting has to be changed?
I added a few indexes for this query and CXPacket is gone but the indexes are causing failures somewhere else. As soon as the indexes were disabled these failures are gone.
Experts I need your valuable thoughts on this. Thanks a bunch.

Hello,
But since last week I am noticing that query is taking longer time to execute and complaining on 94% wait time is on CXPACKET. Does this necessarily mean the MAXDOP setting has to be changed?
I would think not at this moment (though that's just a guess right now). Is this a problem with just a single query, a few, all, etc? The first step I would take (against CXPACKET waits on a query) is to check out the execution plan and verify that statistics
skew isn't causing a problem with work divisions per thread. To do this, find the parallelism operators (press f4 to show details in SSMS) and investigate the threads and the amount of rows each processed. If it is skewed on some threads that could be participating
in the issue you are having. Let's start checking here and see what the result is.
You could also get the execution plan and upload it somewhere for us to look at.

  • ICloud Drive causing timeouts and disconnects when uploading

    It seems that iCloud Drive is set to use the maximum upload bandwidth possible when adding files to it.  I have a home internet connection with fairly limited upload bandwidth (1Mbps - Time Warner Cable apparently doesn't think there is any need for more than that). When I add files to iCloud Drive and they begin to upload, everything else I am doing online quickly times out and eventually disconnects.  As far as I can tell, there isn't any manual control for how much upload bandwidth iCloud Drive can use.  Dropbox and other cloud services have such a setting but it seems that Apple has left this out of their offering.  Has anyone else experienced this?
    It is probably also worth noting that this is the same thing that happens to me when I upload to iTunes Match.  It seems that Apple needs to better handle users with limited bandwidth.

    Hi floorram,
    I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with iCloud on your devices. If your Pages and Word files do not appear to be updating on iCloud Drive, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • BPEL - Handling invocation timeouts and Modifying Partner Link endpoints

    Hi,
    We've built the basic functionality that we need in our BPEL process but are facing 2 specific questions that we are a bit stuck with and would really appreciate some help on..
    1. Our BPEL process calls an external synchronous web service. We have a requirement that if this external web service is unable to respond to our BPEL process within a fixed timespan (say 1 minute), we need to treat this as a timeout and move on. Can anyone suggest what settings are required for this?
    2. The second query is with regards to a likely situation we will face after go-live. If the URL of the external service changes (lets say the service moves from one server to another), ideally we would want to be able to configure this URL change rather than have to modify the WSDL and rebuild the BPEL project in JDev with the new WSDL. Does the BPEL Admin Console provide any such feature? As far as I can recall from a project a couple of years ago, Websphere Process Server did provide such a feature and I'm looking for something similar here but have not found it yet. I am not looking to use dynamic endpoints within our flow - just for an admin feature that would allow me to modify the URL externally via the console.
    Would really appreciate any suggestions on these 2 points..
    Thanks and Regards,
    TB

    In response to your second query -
    a) you don't need to rebuild the BPEL project in Jdev in order to change the wsdl file. If you update the WSDL file with new values for your endpoint simply clear the WSDL cache and the process will pick up the new values in the new instances created from thereon.
    b) or if you dont' want to update the wsdl manually, you can write a piece of java code to change the endpoint URL's for the deployed BPEL processes using the code given here

  • Database connection timeouts and datasource errors

    Connections in the pool randomly die overnight. Stack traces show that for some reason, the evermind driver is being used even though the MySql connection pool is specified.
    Also, the evermind connection pool is saying connections aren't being closed, and the stack trace shows they're being allocated by entity beans that are definitely not left hanging around.
    Sometimes we get non-serializable errors when trying to retrieve the datasource (this is only after the other errors start). Some connections returned from the pool are still good, so the application limps along.
    EJBs and DAOs both use jdbc/SQLServerDSCore.
    Has anyone seen this problem?

    Rick,
    OC4J 9.0.4.0.0 - BTW, do you know of any patches?As far as I know, there are no patches for the 9.0.4
    production version of OC4J stand-alone.
    I'm using container managed persistence,It was not clear to me, from your previous post, that you
    are using CMP entity beans.
    I found staleness-timeout and alive-poll-query
    somewhere on a website when trying to track this
    down. Here's four sources:Those sources refer to OrionServer -- and an older version, too, it seems.
    Like all other Oracle products that start out as somebody
    else's -- including, for example, JBuilder (that became "JDeveloper"), Apache Web Server (that became "Oracle HTTP Server") and TopLink -- their development paths diverge, until, eventually, there is absolutely no similarity between them at all. Hence, the latest versions of OC4J and "OrionServer" are so different, that you cannot be sure that something that works for "OrionServer" will work for OC4J.
    I recall reading something, somewhere, sometime about configuring OC4J to use different databases (other than Oracle), but I really don't remember any details (since it was not relevant to me, because we only use Oracle database). In any case, it is possible to use a non-Oracle database with OC4J.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

     I've just spent a fustrating 15 minutes with Bt Support chat who just seemed want to pass me on to the BT Business team, so I thought I'd post here, for a more informed response.

    Hi Jane, Thanks for the reply. I have now purchased an AEBS(n) to try to overcome this problem. The Apple site says it is compatible with all versions of Airport card so I thought it would solve the problem. My new problem is to be found here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1087292&tstart=0
    However to answer your questions, The OS is 10.4.10 and I have run every updater I can find for all Macs concerned. hope this helps.

  • Frequent timeouts and poor performance

    Hello,
    Starting this morning I'm experiencing a lot of timeouts and performance issues with my SQL Azure DB (located in West US), causing several Azure hosted services to fail. I've checked everything I can think of and it nothing shows a clear problem with our
    databases. I'm not seeing anything on the dashboard, but can't help but wonder if there is an issue going on that hasn't been detected.
    Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?
    Thanks,
    -Fabio

    Hi Fabio,
    I work on the Cotega monitoring service for SQL Azure and I can also confirm that we saw a few customer who we notified of performance issues with SQL Azure as well.
    Now that I write this, I am wondering if it might be worth adding to the service a page that lets anyone see the historical performance of SQL Azure based on aggregated data from all of the customers databases that we currently monitor.  I wonder if
    that would be useful for situations like this?

    Any call made from the API will automatically be set to the “Session Timeout” period, no matter

  • ISE captive portal timeouts and radio policy

    Hello!
    I have two questions.
    First, have some of you guys worked with the captive portal in ISE (guestportal)?
    I have set up a new wireless network for a customer and they want to use the guest portal for som users.
    The problem that I am expering is that on a particular site with many small buildings user complains that they have to reauthenticate using the webportal when moving between the buildnings.
    I have tired extending the idle user timeout on that particular wlan in the cisco 5508, but I still having this problem.
    I would actually like if the user login via the guestportal at the beginning of the work day and after say 4-5 hours they have to reautencitcate.
    And if they loose network connectivity (moving between buildings, iphone/andriod shutting down wifi adapter, etc) they shuld be fine connecting again because they have aldready authecnticated once during the last 4-5 hours.
    Is this possible via the ISE?
    My second question deals with 2.4 and 5 Ghz band.
    I use AP groups on each of my distribution areas. All groups have the same SSID but diffrenet egress interfaces (interfaces groups).
    And in some of these I want to save the 5 GHz band for voice over wlan and in others i would like to use both bands.
    Do I have to create diffrent wlan profiles with diffrent radio policys and same SSID or could I do this in the AP group settings using RF-profiles?
    Hope for some help!
    //Simon

    Your first answer  is there is no such option in ISE till now there you can specify the login time fix for a client. If the client disconnect from the network and reconnect again, it require re-authentication Every time.
    2nd : You can use the AP group settings using RF-profiles to achieve this task.1st: There is no such option in ISE till now there you can specify the login time fix for a client. If the client disconnect from the network and reconnect again, it require re-authentication Every time.
    your seconde answer : You can use the AP group settings using RF-profiles to achieve this task.

  • Session timeout and Custon login module

    Hi,
    Dev Platform: Jdev 10.1.3.4.0, Oracle 10.2.4
    I'm trying to trap the session timeout and display a page. I'm using the code below from Frank Nimphius. I've also provided a console log of what is happening when the application times out. Instead of the filter being called the system is calling the dblogin module and attempting to login the anonymous user. I renamed the anonymous user and I just see log entries where the system attempted to find the anonymous user.
    If I use the application to logout I get a Logout page with a button to confirm the logout. When I press the button the session is invalidated and the filter code brings up my "Session Timeout" notification page. This isn't what will happen in the end but I just wanted to tell you that the filter does work in certain instances.
    How can I make the system not attempt to login the anonymous user and have the filter code run?
    TIA, Dave

    I added an HttpSessionListener upon login here's what I get:
    09/03/31 08:21:25 Inside sessionCreated
    09/03/31 08:21:25 Before New session createb = 0
    09/03/31 08:21:25 Created session id: 854b4b95cf28ceb065d0489a31ee79c19feabb80716f6d828b77fc7044b210bf
    09/03/31 08:21:25 After New session count = 1
    At session timeout here's what I get:
    09/03/31 08:23:27 Count before destroyed = 1
    09/03/31 08:23:27 Destroyed session id: 854b4b95cf28ceb065d0489a31ee79c19feabb80716f6d828b77fc7044b210bf
    09/03/31 08:23:27 Count after destroyed = 0

    09/03/31 08:23:27 After New session count = 1
    Notice that the session Id in each case is IDENTICAL. That is why the Filter code isn't doing what it is intended to do. Whay is the same session ID being created after it is destroyed? Is there a configuration parameter that controls it?
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • How can I fix consistent TCP timeout and make data flow simpler?

    Hi!
    I'm acquiring data from a Scanivalve Digital Scanning Array through a TCP/IP connection. I'm having problems with the connection timing out regularly. It will run fine if you take data several times in a row, but if the VI sits for several minutes (while looking at previous data runs or adjusting test setup) the connection will timeout the next time you try to take data. The subVIs (reading the tcp connection, processing the data pakcet, etc) were provided by the manufacturer several years ago. The midlevel VI were written by another engineer, and I adapted them to run with the top level VI that I needed for this test. The data flow in the VIs are convoluted and while I can follow the ones t
    hat I wrote, I'm not sure how to troubleshoot the others.
    I posted a question on an unrelated problem and the responses mentioned that race conditions were going to be a problem b/c of all of the global variables.
    Please be patient with my lack of knowledge in some areas. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much!

    I'm not positive about the best solution in this situation, but there is lots of information available regarding error 56 when using TCP/IP communication.

  • Passing parameters for a query throught XML and capturing response in the same

    Hi All,
    I have defined a RequestParameters object and i am passing paramerts for a query through XML and trying to capture the result in the same and send back to the source. In this case i am send XML from excel.

    I have 6 defined in RequestParams
    EMP_SALARY(int),ACC_NO(int),EMP_CITY(string),EMP_NAME(string),EMP_CONTACT(string),EMP_JOM(string)
    My Question is:
    When i am trying to build response XML with the following code, the parameters which are not given in the Request XML are also appearing in the Response.

    Where the OriginalParams is dsRequest
    Ex: In my update query i will only send three parameters, but in my response building with ablove code, i am getting all the variables defined as INT in the RequestParameters.
    Is there any way i can avoid this and build response with only the parameters given in the Request ??
    Appreciate ur help..Thanks
    Cronsey.

    Hi Kristin,
    My project is, User will be giving the parameters in the excel, and using VBA, the values are captured and an XML is created in the above mentioned format and is send to web service for the Insert/Update.
    I created a webservice which reads the values from <datacontract> and it consist of list of <dsRequests> where any number of Insert/Upate commands can be executed, with in which it contains a list of <RequestParams> for multiple insertion/Updation.
    //function call
    OriginalParams = generator.Function(query, OriginalParams);
    where OriginalParams is List<dsRequest>
    //inside function
    command.Parameters.Add()// parameters adding
    int
    val = command.ExecuteNonQuery();
    after the execution,an XML element is added for the response part.and it is looped for all the RequestParams.
    OriginalParams[i].Result.Add(
    newResult()
    { ERROR = "No Error",
    ROWS_EFFECTEFD = 1 });
    //once all the execution is done the response building part
    for(inta
    = 0; a < OriginalParams.Count; a++)
                    ResponseParams.Add(
    newdsResponse()
                      Result = OriginalParams[a].Result
    QUEST: When i am trying to build response XML with the following code, the parameters which are not given in the Request XML are also appearing in the Response.
    Ex: In my update query i will only send three parameters, but in my response building with ablove code, i am getting all the variables defined as INT in the RequestParameters.
    Is there any way i can avoid this and build response with only the parameters given in the Request ??
    Appreciate ur help..Thanks

  • Query for PO and GPRO

    Hi guys. I am relatively new to SAP Business with less than one month experience handling this software. I was given a task by my superior last week, whereby I was asked to create a query that will enable both PO and GRPO "combine" together, thus enabling my colleagues to skip the tradition manual way of doing things.
    I have tried a first code which I manage to combine both PO and GRPO. However, there is this problem whereby should I link it via the coding I have done, both specific PO and GRPO must exist on the database for it to be listed out on the query (Should PO is present but GRPO is not, then it do not appear on the query). Below is the code that I have done:
    SELECT T0.[DocNum] as 'PO No.', T0.[DocDate], T0.[DocStatus], T0.[CardName] as 'Supplier', T1.[ItemCode], T1.[Quantity], T1.[Price], T1.[LineTotal] as 'Total Amount', T1.[U_Ship_ETA] as ' Expected Arrival Date',T2.[WhsCode], T2.[OrderedQty], T2.[DelivrdQty], T3.[DocNum] as 'GRPO No.' FROM OPOR T0  INNER JOIN POR1 T1 ON T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry INNER JOIN PDN1 T2 ON T1.DocEntry = T2.BaseEntry AND T1.LineNum = T2.BaseLine INNER JOIN OPDN T3 ON  T2.DocEntry = T3.DocEntry WHERE T1.[U_Ship_ETA] >= [%0] AND T2.[WhsCode] = 'PE-PG'
    The entire purpose of this assignment is to create a query that will facilitate the work of my colleague in HQ and warehouse. This specific person in HQ should be able to key in the PO then followed by another person on warehouse aware of the supply arrival date (expected) and to fill up the GRPO. The coding above, require both PO and GRPO to be present at the same time, which resulting in my colleague at warehouse unaware of the expected arrival date from PO.
    Edited by: AlexAkane on Oct 27, 2009 10:17 AM

    Second question:
    Due to this, I have recreated two different query. One query on PO and another on GRPO. Below are the coding for both,
    GRPO Tracking
    SELECT T0.[DocNum] as 'GRPO', T0.[DocStatus], T0.[DocDate], T0.[CardName] as 'Supplier',T1.[ItemCode], T1.[OrderedQty] as 'Ordered Quantity', T1.[DelivrdQty] as 'Delivered Quantity' , T1.[OpenQty] 'Remaining Open Quantity',T1.[WhsCode], T1.[U_Job_No] FROM OPDN T0  INNER JOIN PDN1 T1 ON T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry WHERE T1.[WhsCode] =[%0] ORDER BY T0.[CardName]
    PO Tracking
    SELECT T0.[DocNum] as 'PO Number', T0.[DocDate], T0.[DocStatus], T0.[CardName] as 'Supplier', T1.[ItemCode], T1.[Quantity] as 'Ordered  Quantity', T1.[Price] as 'Price Per Unit', T1.[LineTotal] as 'Total Amount' , T1.[WhsCode], T1.[U_Ship_ETA] as 'Expected Arrival Date' FROM OPOR T0  INNER JOIN POR1 T1 ON T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry WHERE T1.[WhsCode] =[%0]
    I would like to know, is it possible to join into a single table?  Example- A and B . Join become AB.
    Sorry for this long post. I just don't know how to put in simpler words :). And I would appreciate any help or advice.
    Thank You !
    Regards,
    Alex

    Hi,

    I've set up Discoverer 4i and am currently using Discoverer Desktop to query the business areas. I can retrieve data from any business area apart from GL.
    When I attempt to query GL I get an error message stating 'Query caused no data to be received'.
    Has anyone encountered this before? Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    It could be that these GL folders use row level security and the gl_security_pkg is not initialized.
    Try creating a custom folder containing:
    select gl_security_pkg.login_sob_id from dualLog in with the UK GL User responsibility and create a workbook based on this custom folder. If this returns a null row then the GL package is not properly initialized. Check that the "GL Set of Books ID" system profile is set for the responsibility. You can initilalize the package manually by adding the following text into the the "Initialization SQL Statement - Custom" system profile for the responsibility:
    begin
    gl_security_pkg.init;
    end;Hope that helps,

  • FRM 40350: Query Caused no records to be retrieved in INVTVTXN

    Dear All,
    When Trying to View the Material Distributions for the Transaction Type Sales Order Issue. I am unable to get the accounting entries for the Transaction. On selecting the form the error shows :
    FRM 40350: Query Caused no records to be retrieved
    Please help
    Thanks
    Dinesh

    Ensure that the cost manager is running (Inventory -> Setup -> Transactions -> InterfaceManager )...and ensure that you are giving the correct date range.
    normally you should be able to see distributions as Inv valuation Cr and Deferred Cost of Goods Sold Dr ...
    Some times Cost Manager shows as Active but it does not process transaction records, take help from your system administrator/ DBA to get cost manager restarted.
    Thanks,
    Hrishikesh
